  I am trying to connect to a mysql db on a shared server. I am using a java application to make the connection. Problem doesn't happen when I connect to localhost db. URL = "jdbc:mysql://SHARED HOST IP:3306/DBNAME"; USER = "dbUSER"; PASS = "dbPASS"; Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection(URL, USER, PASS); java.sql.SQLException: Access denied for user 'DBUSER'@'mycomputersIP???' (using password: YES) It is strange that it says denied for dbuser@ mycomputersip instead of dbuser@sharedhostIP Is there a setting on my wireless router that is screwing things up?

  I come into ASP.NET from php so the reason why i ask my question is because it's totally different nature of how application works and handles requests. well, i have an exists table with user creditians, such as: id, login, password (sha hashed), email, phone, room i have built custom membership provider so it can handle my own database authentication schema. and now i'm confused, because User.Identity.Name contains only user's login, but not the complete object (i'm using linq2sql to communicate with database and i need in it's User object to work). at php applications i just store user object at some static method at Auth class (or some another), but here at ASP.NET MVC i cannot do this, because static member is shared across all requests and permanent, and not lives within only current request (as it was at php). so my question is: how and where should i retrieve and store linq2sql user object to work with it within current and only current request? (after request processed successfully i expect it will be disposed from memory and on next request will be created again). or i'm following totally wrong way?

• Connecting flex/php to Active Directory

  Is there a way to connect my flex web application to Active Directory, and get the logged username? Right now we have a PHP script connected to the flex application, that gets user/pass input from the user and checks if there's such user in the AD, and that the password is correct. I don't want to ask for user/pass, but to make the application get the domain username that connected to it, so I could use it (check if the user has access to my application and such). Is there a way to do so?

• Issues with start activity for result

  I have written an Activity using Theme.Holo.Dialog so that it works as an AlertDialog as a login/password notice. I've started this activity with startActivityForResult(...) using a request code I defined. The thing is, whenever I start the activity ´onActivityResult(...)´ is triggered immediately, the buttons get loaded and everything, but once I press them, even though I know the Activity is working because login does happen, there is no result sent back to the first Activity and I am calling setResult(...) and finish() after the buttons are pressed. Thanks in advance, first time using startActivityForResult so I'm sure I must be missing something.

• Error handling with Python + Pylons

  What is the proper way to handle errors with Python + Pylons? Say a user sets a password via a form that, when passed to a model class via the controller, throws an error because it's too short. How should that error be handled so that an error message gets displayed on the web page rather than the entire script terminating to an error page? Should there be any error handling in the controller itself? I hope I am explaining myself clearly. Thank you.

  On websites where you have to enter a user name and password, I notice that I can browse the site with one browser and it will know who I am no matter where I go on the site. But if I open a different browser it doesn't know who I am in that browser unless I log on in that browser. After I log in to a website, does it store some kind of cookie in my browser, and every time I navigate to a different page on that site, it checks the cookie for my identity? What would happen if I logged in, and then before browsing to a different page on the site, deleted the cookie?

  Say I have a simple helpdesk application which logs calls made by users. I would typically have such fields in a table relating to the call e.g. CallID, Description, CustomerID etc. I Would also have a table of customers including CustomerID, Username, Password, FullName etc. Now when a user is deleted from the customers table then the inner join between the calls table and the users table to find out historically which user logged a call would produce no results. How do people usually deal with this? Have seperate customer and useraccount tables Just disable the accounts so the data is still available Record the customers name in the calls table as a seperate field. or any other methods / suggestions?

• Switch role after connecting to database

  Is it possible to change the postgresql role a user is using when interacting with postgres after the initial connection? The database(s) will be used in a web application and I'd like to employ database level rules on tables and schemas with connection pooling. From reading the postgresql documentation it appears I can switch roles if I originally connect as a user with the superuser role, but I would prefer to initially connect as a user with minimal permissions and switch as necessary. Having to specify the user's password when switching would be fine (in fact I'd prefer it). What am I missing?

  I need to programmely switch the current user to another,then the followed code should be executed in the environment(such as path,authority..) of another user. I've find the 'chroot()','setuid()' may be associated with my case, but these functions need the root authority, I don't have root authority, but I have the password of the second user. what should I do?   Hi there: I am developing an application (Delphi 7, windows XP) that uses a connection to a remote SQL Server. Sometimes, that server is down, and I want to do something to start it. I was trying to start SQL Server in a local context, and it was fine, it worked... But the point is that I have to start it up from a remote machine. I can see SQL Server status from a remote server, but I can't start it up... Maybe it gets problems because of user and password, but where to specify the login to the remote machine?   Hello all, First of all, I'd like to thank the good people who helped me around on this site. Thanks. I'm trying to detect a failed authentication attempt in my app... I'm using the didReceiveAuthenticationChallenge method, and the checking if [challenge previousFailureCount] is equal to 0. The problem is that it's always stays on zero, even if the username and password that I send with the credentials are incorrect. I couldn't find any info about this kind of issue, any help will be much appreciated. Thanks!

I've already seen that it's possible to back it with a databasem and I've seen a reference to defining your own queries? Now the problem I have is that the tutorials I've been finding aren't too clear and that they assume that a user can only have one role. I want to give some users multiple roles.   We are using Sybase SQL Anywhere 11. We need to encrypt some of our tables in our database. I followed the instruction and did it. We selected the "strong" option with encryptionKey and AES256_FIPS algorithm. But there are something I am not clear about them. It will require encryptonKey when we create the database, remove the database and start the database server but it will NOT require encryptionKey when we stop the database server and connect to the server to create tables and add data. Why there is NO encryptionKey asked when we connect to it or try to stop the server? I am doing something wrong? don't know how to test the encryption? I still can see all plain text in the encrypted tables when I use Sybase Central tool. If somebody knows the database user name and password, he/she can connect to the database and read the content without the encryptionKey. is this right?

  I am working on a design where I can have flexible attributes for users and I am confused how to continue the design of the schema. I made a table where I kept system needed information: Table name: users id username password Now, I wish to create a profile table and have one to one relation where all the other attributes in profile table such as email, first name, last name, etc. My question is: is there a way to add a third table in which profiles will be flexible? However, if I run this script for the second time, I get 0 messages as result. On the server the message is still there and unread. How can I get all the messages also running the script for the second time? For me it behaves as an email client that doesn't download the same mail twice. Is there some flag to force the program to download everything again? I use python 2.7.x on ubuntu 12.10

  How should I handle multiple user-connection defined datasource connection in my .NET application? To illustrate this better; the user provides three (3) pieces of information, username, password and data source name. This data source name is then looked-up in a central database telling that application which main database this user should connect to. My question is, in the DataAccess layer, should we only pass down enough information to uniquely identify that user, and query the central database each time in the DAL; or, should we provide another way to pass the datasource connection down to the DAL?
