  Hi guys, I have a website that has around 10 pages. Only one of those pages uses Zend (to integrate with Google gData). Right now, it's just all coded into that one page, but I'm wanting to learn how to use Zend Framework. How do you handle basic-relatively static php pages within Zend Framework? Do you just stick the whole individual pages into their own respective views and then have to common stuff in the layout, and not worry about a model and controller for those pages? in general, is MVC accepted and appropriate technology for general "web-design" work?

• CSS fixed div. Avoid unwanted overlapping

  I've got a CSS layout made of 2 columns. the navigation column to the left is a fix div. It stays there while scrolling down the main content in the column to the right. The problem comes when I reduce the browser window, or zoom in: when scrolling the browser windom horizontally, the main content on the right starts overlapping the navigation column on the left. How can I fix it so that whatever the size of my browser window or my zoom level is, when i scroll horizontally the fixed div isn't overlapped but pushes the main column to the right? • Design best practice - best way to handle user selection

  I'm an experienced developer (WPF) moving over to Android development. My question: an app I am developing allows the user to browse their local storage (such as SDCARD) and select a file. Now, should I simply create a new Activity (after the user has made a selection) to handle what I want to have the app do with that chosen file, -or- is the better approach to pass the path/name of the selected file back to the main Activity and let IT launch the next Activity? In other words, is the better practice to have the main Activity launch other (support) activities, or is it perfectly ok and normal to have one activity chain to another and on and on? Thanks!

• Android Programmatically created Button Persistence

  So in an app I'm messing around with I programmatically create some buttons. Then I setContentView(); to a different page. Then if I come back to the original page (on which I placed the programmatically created buttons), they no longer exist. I guess this makes sense as I am calling setContentView(R.layout.main); again which is just the original xml file with no data pointing to the buttons. So is there a way to have the buttons persist over such screen transitions? Thanks.

  There are some technologies like LINQ and WPF which are nice, but installation of .NET 3.5 is still slow procedure. It's important to understand - among Windows users how many of them have .NET 3.5 installed? Is there any good up to date stats gathered about .NET Version availability/usage? I've searched a lot, but can't find. Update: .NET version IS present in web-agent strings for FF and IE at least. So there SHOULD be somebody who have that information. Anyone with access to really large web-site logs? Update 2: I also understand Vista means that user have 3.5, but XP is still dominating the market.

• css3 nth child question

  Hello. I am designing a 960px wide layout with an unordered list. Each list item is 240px wide, so 4 list items fit horizontally in a row. I have about 20 rows on the page.... I want every other list item to have a background of #ececec, so my css would be: ul li:nth-child(2n+2){ background-color:#ececec; } This works. The only problem is because there are 4 items in a row (an even #), the next row would be identical, thus rendering background colors on every 1st and 3rd list items in a row. This is not the effect I am looking to achieve. I want the background colors to alternate, creating a grid-like effect. What is the correct css to do so (think a checker board). Thanks!

• ImageView Force closes my application

  Hi, I have a page, and I just added pagination to it, but there's a prob in IE 7 & 8. • Fallback to another exiting MIME type when the required is missing in Rails

  I want to extend the exiting supported HTML type of my site by support for iPhone. For this I registered a new MIME type. I created a layout for iphone and also converted some of the html views to iphone version. However, I did not convert all of the html.erb-s. I do not see the reason to convert all views, some of them should not change, some partials simply just remain the same. I guess there should be a solution for this case. I tried to search for ways how to fallback to an existing format, but did not find any answer. Does a way to define fallback for MIME types in Rails exist? How does it work? If it doesn't exist and thus I wanted to solve the issue not the right way, what could simply solve the task of extending an existing site by another format? Thanks for your suggestions.

• How to show empty view when ListView is empty?

  Here is my layout. For some reason the empty view (TextView in this case) always appears, even when the List is not empty. I thought the ListView would automatically detect when to show the empty view. • Fragment savedInstanceState is always null (Android support lib)

  I wrote a simple test project, but I cant understand why I always receive savedInstanceState = null in lifecycle methods onCreate, onCreateView and onActivityCreated. I change the screen orientation, see the log, but state not saved. Tell me please where is my mistake. Thanks. I create a TabActivity and it has three Activity(tab1,tab2,tab3).I wanna realize that if I press a button in tab1,then TextView in tab2 can be changed. I've tried Intent and Bundle , but that didn't work and force close . Maybe because of the TabActivity I think . 2. If I have a layout and there are many TextView on it. But some are out of the screen. How can I scroll the screen? 3. Is it possible that TextView in Tablelayout can be clicked ? I've sreached there problems on Google for there days but still bother me . Really need help, Thanks :)

• Android: How can we change the view in the tabs?

  I want to provide a clickthrough on the list in a tab which opens another view. I need to open the new view within the same tab. I then need to provide a back button on the changed layout to change the view to original view. I have tried this. Intent intentA = new Intent(this, AView.class); Now I am trying to access the tabSpec from main activity class[MainTabView] and set the intent as follows. MainTabView.tabSpec1.setContent(intentA); MainTabView.mTabHost.setCurrentTab(0); MainTabView.mTabHost.invalidate(); But this does not change the view immediately but changes it when I go to another tab and come to the starting tab. How can I make it to refresh it as soon as the content has been changed to another intent?

  I'm trying to draw text on NSView subclass. I'm using an NSTextStorage, an NSLayoutManager, and an NSTextContainer. I followed Apple's doc and here's the method I use to calculate the necessary height for each text: NSSize newSize= NSMakeSize(width, 0.0); NSLayoutManager* layoutManager= [[textStorage layoutManagers] objectAtIndex:0]; NSTextContainer* textContainer= [[layoutManager textContainers] objectAtIndex:0]; [textContainer setContainerSize:newSize]; [textStorage addAttribute:NSFontAttributeName value:font range:NSMakeRange(0, [textStorage length])]; [textContainer setLineFragmentPadding:0.0]; [layoutManager glyphRangeForTextContainer:textContainer]; return [layoutManager usedRectForTextContainer:textContainer].size.height; The only problem is that I don't know how to draw in an NSRect with the layout manager. • big background without scrolls

  I have layout that has wider background picture than the content area. I have made 970ppx wrapper where the content is. And in body I have backgroud image but I need to have anothen background image above of tht body background image so I have made class bgimg. So basically the markup is like this: But the bgimg is about 1050px wide and thus it gives scrolls when users browser is 1024x768. Is there way of getting rid the scrolls? I mean I want to have have scrollbars if users browrser is narrower thant the 970x wrapper of course. So can I put something like overflow hidden for bgimg class? Hopefully you did understannd what I mean.

  I have a modal UI in my web app that necessitates a fixed layout design. After much fussing, I decided absolutely positioned child elements was the way to go. However, I have one div that conditionally requires a vertical scrollbar (if there's too much content). When this scrollbar is added, the width of the div seems to vary between IE 7 and IE 8. IE8 standards mode: IE7 standards mode: I haven't even tested for IE 6, but I'm sure it's even funkier. What's the simplest, least painful way to address this to arrive at a consistent UI in all major browsers?

• Which reporting tool would you recommend?

  Hi, I have some reporting functionality in my app and I want to improve it a bit. Its only SQL in a XML file which is read by some parser. There can be some params for that SQL and when its parsed and the params are injected, it is executed against my DB (SQL Server). I want to improve that a bit so that the results look better and are more flexible. This are the most important points I need to have: subtotals layout that can change dynamically according to settings in DB (like logo, slogan) possibility to use the same report template for several customers (same fields, but different logos,colors, slogans etc.) should run from an ASP.NET application It should be as dynamic as possible. I know of Crystal Reports and the Microsoft Reporting Tool. Are there any others that might be of interest and are my above points possible at all? Thanks for some ideas and hints :-)...

• Printing python tkinter output

  I am trying to print the contents of a python tkinter canvas. I have tried using the postscript method of canvas to create a postscript file, but I get a blank page. I know this is because I have embedded widgets, and these do not get rendered by the postscript method. Before I rewrite my program to create a more printer-friendly layout, can someone suggest a way to approach this problem? All of the programming books I have ever read approach the problem of sending output to a printer with a bit of hand-waving, something along the lines of: "It's a difficult problem that depends on interacting with the operating system." I also have a hard time finding resources about this because of all the pages related to printing to the screen. I am using Python 2.6, on Ubuntu 9.04.

• Displaying conditional amount of fields in UI (Android)

  I am using layout xml documents for my ui controls. I need to create and remove these controls (input fields) on the fly, based on how many results I get back from my database. For each group, there can be 0..* fields and these are prepopulated from the database. Also, it would be good if I can invoke a method to create an additional field; something like the address book, where you can click + or - to add or remove a phone or other detail. In a "psuedo" style, I'm guessing something like this: Check database - How many of X are there [y]? Create Y fields. The user may then add new fields, so once I click submit i need to apply all of that to database. Any examples or hints greatly welcomed. Hope this make sense! :)
