• Working with a database

  I have an existing program for a bank account, the user can create an account then withdraw or deposit money to the account. As a transaction is processed, labels are being used to show the current information such as (Beginning Balance, Transaction Fee, Withdrawal Amount, and Ending Balance). Now, I need to be able to keep track of the transactions being processed in a SQL database. I know how to add a database to the project and then set it up to display all of the data from the table in a gridview. This is assuming that I manually entered data into the table; however, the table should be blank when the program starts and as I process transactions, then the data should be written to the table. How do I bind my existing fields (labels) to a datatable and send the text to the table. The book that I have is all related to just displaying the data that is already in the table and I have been through a couple of tutorial online and they seem to be about the same subject. I haven't found anything on how to do what I am looking for. Can someone help me out here. I don't mind references to other websites that might have the answer. Thanks, Susan

• How to minify JS in PHP easily...Or something else

  I've done some looking around, but I'm still confused a bit. I tried Crockford's JSMin, but Win XP can't unzip the executable file for some reason. What I really want though is a simple and easy-to-use JS minifier that uses PHP to minify JS code--and return the result. The reason why is because: I have 2 files (for example) that I'm working between: scripts.js and scripts_template.js scripts_template is normal code that I write out--then I have to minify it and paste the minified script into scripts.js--the one that I actually USE on my website. I want to eradicate the middle man by simply doing something like this on my page: <script type="text/javascript" src="scripts.php"></script> And then for the contents of scripts.php: <?php include("include.inc"); header("Content-type:text/javascript"); echo(minify_js(file_get_contents("scripts_template.js"))); This way, whenever I update my JS, I don't have to constantly go to a website to minify it and re-paste it into scripts.js--everything is automatically updated. Yes, I have also tried Crockford's PHP Minifier and I've taken a look at PHP Speedy, but I don't understand PHP classes just yet...Is there anything out there that a monkey could understand, maybe something with RegExp? How about we make this even simpler? I just want to remove tab spaces--I still want my code to be readable. It's not like the script makes my site lag epically, it's just anything is better than nothing. Tab removal, anyone? And if possible, how about removing completely BLANK lines?

• Iframe form not submittin in IE but working in Firefox

  I have got a form that posts values to a page in a wizard. When i'm loading this form in a Iframe everything is working fine in Firefox, it will get me to the second step of the wizard and maintains the values i filled in. When im testing this in Internet Explorer i am not getting to the second step, instead of that it returns me to the first step of the wizard with all fields being blank. When i check this in Fiddler i see that im getting a different response when i'm posting the form in the Iframe from Firefox compared to Internet Explorer. How can i make this work for all browsers? What am I doing wrong? • How to create databinding over two xaml files?

  Hello, I am trying to come to a working understanding of how databinding works, but even after several tutorials I only have a basic understanding of how databinding works. Thus this question might seem fundamental to those more familiar with silverlight. Even if it is trivial, please point me to some tutorial that deals with this problem. All that I could find simply solved this via adding the data binding on a parent page.xaml (that i must not use in my case). For the sake of this example let us assume, that we have 5 files: starter.cs button1.xaml + codeBehind button2.xaml + codeBehind The two buttons are generated in code in the starter(.cs) file, and then added to some MapLayer button1 my_button1 = new button1(); button2 my_button1 = new button2(); someLayer.Children.Add(my_button1); someLayer.Children.Add(my_button2); My aim is to connect the two buttons, so that they always display the same "text" (i.e. my_button1.content==my_button2.content = true;). Thus when something changes my_button1.content this change should be propagated to the other button (two way binding). At the moment my button1.xaml looks like this: <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot"> <Button x:Name="x_button1" Margin="0,0,0,0" Content="{Binding ElementName=x_button2, Path=Content}" ClickMode="Press" Click="button1_Click"/> </Grid> But everthing that i get out of that is a button with no content at all, it is just blank as the binding silently fails.   In ASP.NET/VB.NET 2005 I've created a small web app with two forms. In Default there is a button and a text box and a link. When you press the button whatever is in the text box is put into the Session. Protected Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Session("mykey") = Me.TextBox1.Text End Sub When you press the link it's NavigateURL property is "~/Retrieve.aspx" On the Retrieve page it pulls the information out of the Session (that is, whatever you typed in the text box). Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load Dim myValue As String = CType(System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Session("mykey"), String) Response.Write(myValue) End Sub Now it works on my machine and when deployed to the production web-site server if I run the browser remotely there it works fine - What you type on the first page appears on the second page. But when I run it from my machine to the production web server the second page is always blank. Why? It doesnt seem like a timeout issue - brand new web.config taking the defaults. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  I encountered a strange performance in my current project, which is about session. The strange part is it was normal in Safari but failed in other browsers (includes chrome, firefox and opera). For Safari, there is no any problem. But for the other browsers, the session[:current_account] does not exist and so produced the following error message: RuntimeError in AccountsController#create_step_2 Called id for nil, which would mistakenly be 4 -- if you really wanted the id of nil, use object_id Please could anyone help me?

• Help with Struts Action mapping

  I am having a problem with my struts application it is a class enrollment app and when the user clicks on a "show enrolled courses" button it is supposed to show the courses they are enrolled in but it shows nothing at the moment. Struts/Apache does not return any errors, it Just shows a blank page and I cannot figure out why.   Hello I have a form in witch users can add their working hours view them and edit them (All in one page). When adding working hours the user must select a project from a dropdown list. In case the action is adding a new hour record the dropdown field should remain empty (not selected) in case the action is edit the dropdown field should be selected with the appropriate value. It works fine until I tried to code the errors. The problem is that when I use the error method: validates_presence_of :project_id it didn't recognize it in the html form of the dropdown list and don’t display the error message (its working only for the dropdown with the collect method). I will deeply appreciate your instructions and help in this matter

• Problem with date_select when using :discard option. (Rails)

  I'm using a date_select with the option :discard_year => true If a user selects a date in the date select, and then he comes back and returns the select to the prompt values of Month and Day, Rails automatically sets the select values to January 1. I know this is the intended functionality if a month is selected and a day is left blank, but that's not the case here. In my example, the user sets both the month and day back to the prompt. By Rails forcing January 1, I'm getting bad results. I've tried every parameter available in the api. :default = nil, :include_blank = true. None of those change the behavior I'm describing. I've isolated the root of the problem, which is this: Because I'm discarding the :year parameter, when the user tries to return the month and day to the prompt values, Rails doesn't see an empty prompt select. It perhaps sees a year selected with empty month and day, which it then sets to January 1. This is the case because the :discard_year parameter does in fact set a date in the database, it just removes it from the view. How can I code around this problem?

• How do the size standard libraries compare for different languages

  Someone was recently raving about how great jQuery was and how it made javascript into a pleasure and also how the whole source code was so small(and one file). I looked it up on www.ohloh.net/ and it said it was about 30,000 lines of javascript, when I tired curl piped to wc it said about 5000 lines(strange discrepancy that, maybe test suites, ect?). I thought well it isn't that strange since javascript from what I've heard has a lot of fun dynamic tricks, so you can probably get away with a small library. But then I thought what about other high level languages, the ones with large standard libraries and wondered how big the standard are for python/ruby/haskell/pharo(smalltalk)/*ml/ect. (libraries not vm stuff to the degree its possible to separate it) Anybody know? Any details (comment/blank/code lines , test code lines, lines in language vs lines in ffi/byte-code) are appreciated! edit: ps. since it started this me asking about jQuery as a bonus if you could please list the size of mega frameworks, a megaframewok provides so much that people using an x megaframework in language y might sometimes refer to programming in xy or even x rather then in y (ie. : qt, jQuery, etc.).

The database engine that I'm using together with SQLalchemy atm. is sqlite3 I've been scratching my head over this for two days now, I've no problem joining together all three by way of the subscription table but then all of the channels where the user does not have a subscription gets omitted. I hope I've managed to describe my problem sufficiently, thanks in advance.

• How should backbone.js handle a GET request that returns no results?

  I have a number of text input elements that when its values are changed, will trigger a fetch on listingListView's collection listingCollection, which then updates listingListView with the new data via the function listingListView.refreshList as shown below. I am using PHP/Codeigniter to expose a RESTful API. Problem: Everything works fine if there are results retrieved from the fetch(). However, when the filters results in no result being returned, how should the server side and the client side handle it? Currently Chrome's javascript console displays a 404 error and in the Network tab, the XHR request is highlighted in red. All I want to do in the event of zero results returned, is to blank the listingListView and show a message like (No results returned) and not throw any errors in the javascript console. Thanks! • How to implement an ID field on a POCO representing an Identity field in MS SQL?

  If I have a Domain Model that has an ID that maps to a SQL identity column, what does the POCO look like that contains that field? Candidate 1: Allows anyone to set and get the ID. I don't think we want anyone setting the ID except the Repository, from the SQL table. public class Thing { public int ID {get;set;} } Candidate 2: Allows someone to set the ID upon creation, but we won't know the ID until after we create the object (factory creates a blank Thing object where ID = 0 until we persist it). How would we set the ID after persisting? public class Thing { public Thing () : This (ID: 0) {} public Thing (int ID) { this.ID = ID } private int _ID; public int ID { get { return this.ID;}; } Candidate 3: Methods to set ID? Somehow we would need to allow the Repository to set the ID without allowing the consumer to change it. Any ideas? Is this barking up the wrong tree? Do we send the object to the Repository, save it, throw it away, then create a new object from the loaded version and return that as a new object?

• Accomplishing This Style of Drop-Down Menus in jQuery

  I was browsing the web and found this site. I noticed how the nav bar drop-down works, and I want to implement something similar on my website. Afer going into the source code of the page, I found that those drop-down areas are contained in divs with class fOut. It turns out that this is being done with MooTools. • Content Management Systems for Adaptive Content [closed]

  Content management systems (CMS) allow us to easily maintain blogs, news sites, general websites, and so on. Many of them are designed to manage pages of content, and provide tools to organize and customize how that content is displayed on the web. However, as explained by Mark Boulton in his Adaptive Content Management article, and by Karen McGrane in her talk on Adapting Ourselves to Adaptive Content, we are increasingly delivering content not just to the web, but also to other platforms and channels. We need tools to manage pieces of content with meaningful metadata attached. Create once, publish everywhere. The main idea is to store content cleanly, without intertwining it with presentation markup specific to the web. Because pieces of content is compartmentalized semantically, it can easily adapt to fit in different platforms and channels. Hence, it's called adaptive content. Let's look at a quick example to compare: Say I manage news articles and events. To create a news article, I would tell the CMS the type of content I'm creating, and be asked to fill in a form with individual fields tailored to news articles (e.g. headline, subtitle, full text, short snippet, and images). — i.e. pieces of content With a traditional web publishing tool, I would probably have had to create a new page under News, and then type in and format the news article in a blank WYSIWYG text editor. — i.e. pages of content As you can see, the first design allows me to individually specify content in its smallest semantic unit. When I want to display or consume it, the system can easily provide the pieces I need. So here's my question: Is there a CMS that is designed specifically with adaptive content in mind, and that is decoupled with the presentation layer? Note: This is not a discussion about the best CMS, or which CMS I should use. I am asking whether a very specific type of tool — CMS designed for adaptive content — exists for developers to use.

• Ordering by a max or a min from another table

  I have a table that consists of a unique id, and a few other attributes. It holds "schedules". Then I have another table that holds a list of all the times each schedule has or will "fire". This isn't the exact schema, but it's close: create table schedule ( id varchar(40) primary key, attr1 int, attr2 varchar(20) ); create table schedule_times ( id varchar(40) foreign key schedule(id), fire_date date ); I want to query the schedule table, getting the attributes and the next and previous fire_dates, in Java, sometimes ordering on one of the attributes, but sometimes ordering on either previous fire_date or the next fire_date. Ordering by the attributes is easy, I just stick an "order by" into the string while I'm building my prepared statement. I'm not even sure how to go about selecting the last fire_date and the next one in a single query - I know that I can find the next fire_date for a given id by doing a SELECT min(fire_date) FROM schedule_times WHERE id = ? AND fire_date > sysdate; and the similar thing for previous fire_date using max() and fire_date < sysdate. I'm just drawing a blank on how to incorporate that into a single select from the schedule so I can get both next and previous fire_date in one shot, and also how to order by either of those attributes.

• CLLocationManager class method not calling in iPodTouch

• Weird Qt SSL issue -- error "No Error" shows up, nothing else, and if I ignore it, everything works

  The issue is as follows : in my Qt app, I have a QWebView, which I use to load a HTTPS page. Everything worked fine on my development machine, so I'm now trying to get it to run on a test machine. I ran the app, but the page didn't load (the QWebView was blank). After much debugging, I found the problem is that an SSL error shows up, and the sslErrors() signal is fired. Here is my sslErrors() handling code: void blah::sslErrors(QNetworkReply *reply, const QList<QSslError> &errors) { foreach(QSslError error, errors) { qDebug() << error.errorString() << endl; } reply->ignoreSslErrors(); } The only thing the above code prints is: "No error" So there's no error, but unless I call reply->ignoreSslErrors(), the page doesn't load (on the test machine, on my developer computer no error is reported). Huh? Is this a bug? Is it safe to ignore the error, if I make sure it's of the type "No error"?
