• Gson module not found Blackberry Java application

  Hi. I'm developing a simple application for Blackberry and i'm using Google's gson to retrieve some data from a server. The UI was working fine but when I added the gson part it started failing, it wont run. When I run the application in the simulator it show this error: "Uncaught: RuntimeException" on that annoying white screen of death and after holding the click button I can see that there is an alert dialog that says "Module 'gson-1.4' not found". However I did added "gson-1.4.jar" in the Project's Properties - Java Build Path - Add External JARs... also, the Gson objects are recognized at my code, no syntax errors at my code. BTW, I'm using Eclipse and the most recent Blackberry SDK Please help

• Is it possible to avoid downloading song up to the supplied position using SoundManager2?

  I'm using the SoundManager2 JavaScript SDK on a site that streams synchronized audio from SoundCloud to multiple clients simultaneously. When a new user loads the page, the audio is loaded, and a position parameter is set to specify where playback should begin. The problem arises when the track is really long (say 60 minutes), and the current track position is substantially far into the track (e.g. 30 minutes). When this is the case, it takes a really long time before playback begins because the track has to download/buffer up to the current position. Is there a way to avoid downloading the 30 minutes of audio that I don't need?

• What should I grab as a development platform, an iPod or an iPad?

  Hey all, I've recently gotten into the world of contract programming, and two of my clients have indicated that they'd like to do something 'trendy', like ipod touch/iphone/ipad development. I have a mac laptop (first gen macbook pro) that I'll have to upgrade to snow leopard to do the development for any of them, from what I've read. So that's already a bit of a commitment, given all the stuff I have on that laptop I'll have to make sure is recoverable from backup. My budget is limited, but I think I need to learn this skill. Which device should I get to learn this kind of development, an iPod touch or an iPad? I don't have the money for an iPhone. I think that the iPhone/iPad SDK has an emulator mode, but I like to have the device I'm going to roll out on available to make sure that everything works as I'd expect, ie, what's easily readable on a laptop screen is still readable on the touch, etc.

• Verifying university membership/attendance via email address

  My client's web app allows members to sign up (Rails using AuthLogic) and those signups are limited in that they must be under the auspices of a university. To wit: A university organizer can sign up to be the representative of a university, and students can sign up as "attendees" of that university. I've been tasked with finding if there is a programmatic way to verify university membership/attendance. The only way I can see doing this is having a database of universities and a database of associated emails, and verifying that the student's email address is part of this database. That doesn't help if using Facebooker and AuthLogic's "sign up with Facebook credentials" ability, however. I suspect the answer to this is "via human intervention," and that this is something we can't solve programmatically. Either we, or the university, will have to bite the bullet and check records. However, I'd thought I'd ask if anyone else has run into the issue of verification of university membership before.

• Difference between halo and mx namespace

  Hi there ! As far as I know, the support for library://ns.adobe.com/flex/halo namespace has been dropped, and now we have to use library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx instead (reference). Can someone provide if there's any difference between the two namespaces? I am just starting to learn Flex and this change make me confused. For example, if I have an <mx:Tree> tag in my mxml document, the compiler complains that <mx:Tree> could not be resolved to a component implementation. But if I change my mx namespace to use the old one instead (halo), it successfully compiled without error. Thanks. • When VS 2010 RC is going to be released?

  I was looking to install the latest Windows Azure Tools for Microsoft Visual Studio. However, this version doesn't work with Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2. They say that the latest version of Azure Tools & SDK will only work with VS 2008 and VS 2010 RC and that for VS 2010 Beta 2 I still need to install November release. I know that VS 2010 is going to be released on April 12th this year but does anyone knows when VS 2010 RC is coming out? EDIT: The full RTM version of Visual Studio 2010 is released as of April 14, 2010.

• Embedding an existing exe file into another C++ program

  Is there a way to link an existing .exe file with other C++ source files during compilation? What I'm actually trying to do is to compress and decompress some files in my console program using LZMA(7zip) SDK but unfortunately it's very difficult to use for a newbie. There is a command line version of LZMA called 7za.exe and I am wondering if I can somehow embed it into my program and use it like a function. It can be easily used with system() function (which seems to be a very dangerous thing to use) but then if I send my program to someone who doesn't have 7za.exe in the right folder it won't work. I came across CreateProcess() function in windows.h header files but it seems to achieve what system() does in a more proper and advanced way. I don't know if it can actually link the exe file like an object file during compilation

• How to activate nVidia cards programmatically on new MacBookPros for CUDA programming?

  The new MacBookPros come with two graphic adapters, the Intel HD Graphics, and the NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M. OS X switches back and forth between them, depending on the workload, detection of an external monitor, or activation of Rosetta. I want to get my feet wet with CUDA programming, and unfortunately the CUDA SDK doesn't seem to take care of this back-and-forth switching. When Intel is active, no CUDA device gets detected, and when the NVidia card is active, it gets detected. So my current work-around is to use the little tool gfxCardStatus (http://codykrieger.com/gfxCardStatus/) to force the card on or off, just as I need it, but that's not satisfactory. Does anybody here know what the Apple-blessed, Apple-recommended way is to (1) detect the presence of a CUDA card, (2) to activate this card when present?

• How to keep submit button visible and executable upon textarea onblur

  I have a <div id="comment_posting_holder"> tag that holds a form with two elements: a textarea box and a submit button. I want to have the div tag (containing the textarea and submit button) disappear if I click somewhere "OTHER" than the submit button. I have a start for the code below. So upon leaving focus from the textarea, I can make the div tag disappear. I tried placing in a mouseclick event inside the blur function for the submit button but that did not work. Any suggestions? Thank you! **Facebook does this with it's comments. • Facebooker Session is not created when config.cache_classes = true

  I am using Facebooker (along with devise & devise_facebook_connectable). The problem is that user can't sign in with Facebook Connect in production environment unless I set config.cache_classes to false (which I don't want to do in production obviously). When cache_classes = true, Facebooker::Session.current is nil. Trying to set it manually creates other problems, so I assume it's not the solution. Using Rails 2.3.8 (tried on 2.3.5 too) and Facebooker 1.0.70 (tries on 1.0.69 too) and passenger 2.2.11. Any hints?

  Cookie error Hi, I am running S60 SDK 5th with Eclipse pulsar on win 7. I have oauth_token using with this Url https://www.linkedin.com/uas/oauth/authorize?oauth_token=. To get that grant access screen by LinkedIn. I am loading above Url using htmlComponent, and adding HtmlComponent to form and show it. Occasionally when I click on the "Ok I'll Allow It" button (i.e. after the button has been pressed) I get the following error message. "We’re sorry, there was a problem with your request. Please make sure you have cookies enabled and try again." but i'm receiving the response with oauth_token, oauth_token_secret, oauth_callback_confirmed = true, xoauth_request_auth_url, oauth_expires_in. Some buddy please help.

• Consuming all touchEvents not preventing scrolling on the blackberry storm

  Hello, I am trying to make a custom control for the BlackBerry Storm using SDK v5.0. This control needs to disable scrolling while the user is dragging elements within a field. The problem is that even if I my control consumes every single touch event send to it, when the user lifts their finger off the screen it still flings up or down as if its finishing a scroll action. Does anyone know of a way to prevent this from happening or what I might be doing wrong ? Thank you.

• Visual Studio Pre build events and batch set

  Hi, I'm trying to create call a batch file which sets a bunch of environment variables prior to building. The batch file looks something like this (it's automatically generated before-hand to detect ATI Stream SDK or NVidia CUDA toolkit): set OCL_LIBS_X86="%ATISTREAMSDKROOT%libs\x86" set OCL_LIBS_X64="%ATISTREAMSDKROOT%libs\x86_64" set OCL_INCLUDE="%ATISTREAMSDKROOT%include" However, the rest of the build doesn't seem to have access to these variables, so when I try to reference $(OCL_INCLUDE) in the C/C++GeneralAdditional include directories, it will first give me warning that environment variable $(OCL_INCLUDE) was not found, and when I try to include CL/cl.hpp the compile will fail with: fatal error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'CL/cl.hpp': No such file or directory I know that I could put these variables into the registry if I wanted to access them from the visual studio GUI, but I would really prefer not to do this. Is there a way to to get these environment variables to stick after the pre-build events? I can't reference $(ATISTREAMSDKROOT) directly because the project must be able to build for both ATI Stream and NVidia Cuda.

  Hi, I'm trying to make some "social share" buttons at my site, but the urls I generate just don't get decoded by this services. • How to store or share live data between PHP Requests?

  Hi, I want to start a project for facebook and the application will be like real-time multiplayer chess game. The problem I'm having is I have no idea how to store the data when a player moves one piece and update the new position in player2 browser. I'm gonna use PHP, MySQL for server side and jQuery for Client Rendering. The simplest idea is to store the data in XML or MySQL and re-generate the result to player2 browser. But I know that when thousand of players are playing, it will not be an efficient way. Since I don't have time to study new language for this project, I'm gonna have to stick with PHP. I'm not going to use flash either because I want my client side light-weight and flash-free. So is there any way that will solve my problems?

• Connecting PC via Bluetooth SNP

  Hi, I have a widcomm example BluChat "WIDCOMM SDK RFComm Service" running on my PC with an USB dongle (BT-2400P). I would like to connect this chat from my HTC Desire. So I stared with the Java example http://developer.android.com/resources/samples/BluetoothChat/index.html. This is also using BT RFComm. If I'm using my HTC as a server it work's fine, but I would like to use my PC as a server. Then .connect() comes back with "Service Discovery Failure". I have modified the UUID string in the Java example to match the PC-application mmSocket = mmDevice.createRfcommSocketToServiceRecord(UUID.fromString("5fc2a42e-144e-4bb5-b43f-4e61711d1c32")); mmSocket.connect(); What is missing?   I have seen a disturbing trend where websites are starting to require verification sent to cellphones by text message (SMS). Gmail and Facebook are two of them. What I want to know are the following: Is it a good idea to start requiring cellphones instead of emails now? How do I do it on my own website? Edit Here are some of my new questions on the topic in response to the answers: I see that most of you are saying that SMS registrations is ok. But what about the people who don't have cell phones? And why is it accepted to give out your cell phone information freely? Do those big providers really pay per message to a gateway service? Is it not possible to set up a server with the correct SMS software, or at least buy a subscription directly instead of having a middleman?

  I am new to GAE, I follow the instructions on http://code.google.com/eclipse/docs/install-eclipse-3.7.html. I got the installation and registration done pretty fast. But when I tried to build the helloWorld project in Eclipse, before I can do anything, Eclipse gives me an error says "java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/google/appengine/tools/enhancer/Enhance" and it is very weird. Because when you expand the app engine sdk, you can easily find the Enhance class under related jar file. I also tried Enhance e = null; and it is working. It seems that my eclipse just cannot find it. I don't know why it is not working, I am using JDK1.6, I reinstall my eclipse and the google plugins, I even disabled my firewall. Please help!!!

• Creating BlackBerry method stubs using wscompile on WSDL from ColdFusion

  I have been working on a BlackBerry application that consumes web services from ColdFusion 7. The Java ME SDK and the Java Wireless Toolkit both require that the generated WSDL be of the document/literal type. Fortunately, I have input on the web service development so I tried setting 'style="document"' in the cfcomponent tag. This generated a document/literal style WSDL but now wscompile generates the following errors in several places: Found unknown simple type: javax.xml.soap.SOAPElement Found unknown simple type: java.util.Calendar Any ideas why this is happening? The WSDL does get parsed correctly by the JWSDP tool but the stubs use namespaces that are not available in the J2ME platform. I would have thought ColdFusion WSDL would work more easily with other products in the Java family.
