  • lazy loading images in UIScrollView

    - by idober
    I have an application the requires scrolling of many images. because I can not load all the images, and save it in the memory, I am lazy loading them. The problem is if I scroll too quickly, there are "black images" showing (images that did not manage to load). this is the lazy loading code: int currentImageToLoad = [self calculateWhichImageShowing] + imageBufferZone; [(UIView*)[[theScrollView subviews] objectAtIndex:0]removeFromSuperview]; PictureObject *pic = (PictureObject *)[imageList objectAtIndex:currentImageToLoad]; MyImageView *iv = [[MyImageView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(currentImageToLoad * 320.0f, 20.0f, 320.0f, 460)]; NSData *imageData = [NSData dataWithContentsOfFile:[pic imageName]]; [iv setupView:[UIImage imageWithData: imageData] :[pic imageDescription]]; [theScrollView insertSubview:iv atIndex:5]; [iv release]; this is the code inside scrollViewWillBeginDecelerating: [NSThread detachNewThreadSelector:@selector(lazyLoadImages) toTarget:self withObject:nil];

  • Objective-C partial implementation of classes in separate files

    - by Aran Mulholland
    I am using core data and am generating classes from my data model. I implement custom methods in these classes, however when i regenerate i generate over the top so i end up copying and pasting a bit. What i would like to do is split my implementation files ('.m') so i can have one header file with multiple '.m' files. then i can keep my custom methods in one and not have to worry about erasing them when i regenerate. I use this technique in .NET a lot with its partial keyword. Is there anything similar in objective-C

  • How to change a UIBarButtonItem in a UINavigationBar

    - by pkulak
    I'm trying to set up a list of items that can be edited. I have a main view, with a UINavigationBar at the top and a UITableView directly under it. I'd like to have my "edit" button change to a "done" button on click, but I can't figure out how to do it. If I could do it in the code (not it interface builder), I could just replace it, but I can't even do that. I've seen some code using [self.navigationItem], but in my case self is a UIView. It also feels a bit odd to be using a UINavigationBar when I don't want navigation (this is one page only), but I want a toolbar with a title and and a button, so I don't think really have a choice.

  • Monotouch UIScrollView/UIPageView with UITableView as panel

    - by cvista
    Hi I'm building an app which is a guide to festivals. In the app I show lineups. You can see the Ui I have built for this on the video here: http://wmcstar.com/download.html The problem I have is that the scrollview/UIPageView - which does the left/right scrolling through the days, sometimes conflicts (i think) with the up/down scrolling of the days lineup UITableView and crashes. It doesn't crash if I disable scrolling - so the only way to switch between days is by selecting the day and programatically scrolling to the day rather than by using touch gestures. Has anyone else seen this behaviour? w://

  • CFNetwork / NSURLConnection leak

    - by JK
    Running instruments on the device, I intermittently incur a memory leak of exactly 3.5 KB in CFNetwork, the responsible frame being "HostLookup_Master::HostLookup...." I have read a number of questions re this issue and have separately tried the following to fix the leak: Included the following in applicationDidFinishLaunching: NSURLCache *sharedCache = [[NSURLCache alloc] initWithMemoryCapacity:0 diskCapacity:0 diskPath:nil]; [NSURLCache setSharedURLCache:sharedCache]; [sharedCache release]; Specified in the urlrequest not to load from the local cache. None of the above worked. My class that instantiates the connections does not leak as its instances are released when data has been downloaded. I have verified this by confirming the the living objects of the class is 0 using Instruments. Any advice on addressing this leak would be greatly appreciated.

  • [IOS SDK] retrieving scores from game center

    - by Sam

  • UIWebViewDelegate returns different error message on iPod Touch 2G and 3G

    - by lostInTransit
    Hi I have an app developed using SDK 3.0. My view has a UIWebView whose delegate is the viewcontroller. I want to show an error message when the webview does not load (in case the touch goes out of wifi range or wifi is turned off) I override this method to show an alert - (void)webView:(UIWebView *)wbView didFailLoadWithError:(NSError *)error But this caused an issue when some links were clicked on the webview. The page loaded but if some images from the previous page were not loaded, the method call was triggered. Testing on an iPod Touch 3G, the NSError's userInfo has the localized description as no Internet connection if load fails due to no internet connection. But this only seems to be true for an iPod Touch 3G. 2G shows a different message (I got to know from some beta testers. They aren't very technical so can't tell them to get me the logs or anything.) Can anyone with an iPod Touch 2G tell me the values for the NSError userInfo? Or better still, did anyone else face this issue? How did you resolve it? Thanks.

  • Benchmarking a particular method in Objective-C

    - by Jasconius
    I have a critical method in an Objective-C application that I need to optimize as much as possible. I first need to take some easy benchmarks on this one single method so I can compare my progress as I optimize. What is the easiest way to track the execution time of a given method in, say, milliseconds, and print that to console.

  • How to perform kCATransitionPush animation without any transparency / fade effects

    - by Anthony
    I'm trying to duplicate the "slide up from the bottom" animation that [UIViewController presentModalViewController:animated:] performs but without calling it because I don't want a modal view. The below core animation code comes very close but appears to be changing transparency values of the views during it. At the start of the animation you can partially see through the view sliding up. By the middle/end of the animation the view we are sliding over is fully transparent so we can see behind it. I'd like both to remain fully opaque during this animation. Any ideas on how to stop transparency changes in this code or to otherwise get the "slide up animation" I am looking for without requiring a modal view? UIViewController *nextViewController = [[UIViewController alloc] autorelease]; nextViewController.view.backgroundColor = [UIColor redColor]; CATransition *animation = [CATransition animation]; animation.duration = 3.5; animation.timingFunction = [CAMediaTimingFunction functionWithName:kCAMediaTimingFunctionEaseInEaseOut]; animation.type = kCATransitionPush; animation.subtype = kCATransitionFromTop; [self.navigationController pushViewController:nextViewController animated:NO]; [self.navigationController.view.layer addAnimation:animation forKey:nil];

  • Any example on how to implement the new VerificationController and the KNOWN_TRANSACTIONS_KEY constant?

    - by Carles Estevadeordal
    I've been looking at implementing the new VerificationController to verify in-App-Purchases: http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#releasenotes/StoreKit/IAP_ReceiptValidation/_index.html And I wonder if there is some example anywhere en how to validate a transaction, since it seems that the - (BOOL)verifyPurchase:(SKPaymentTransaction *)transaction; is not enough and it has to be implemented internally to verify the purchase when the data form the server is received. Another question is if anyone has a clue on what the KNOWN_TRANSACTIONS_KEY is and how to fill it, is it just the product id of the purchase?

  • ObjC: Alloc instance of Class and performing selectors on it leads to __CFRequireConcreteImplementat

    - by Arakyd
    Hi, I'm new to Objective-C and I'd like to abstract my database access using a model class like this: @interface LectureModel : NSMutableDictionary { } -(NSString*)title; -(NSDate*)begin; ... @end I use the dictionary methods setValue:forKey: to store attributes and return these in the getters. Now I want to read these models from a sqlite database by using the Class dynamically. + (NSArray*)findBySQL:(NSString*)sql intoModelClass:(Class)modelClass { NSMutableArray* models = [[[NSMutableArray alloc] init] autorelease]; sqlite3* db = sqlite3_open(...); sqlite3_stmt* result = NULL; sqlite3_prepare_v2(db, [sql UTF8String], -1, &result, NULL); while(sqlite3_step(result) == SQLITE_ROW) { id modelInstance = [[modelClass alloc] init]; for (int i = 0; i < sqlite3_column_count(result); ++i) { NSString* key = [NSString stringWithUTF8String:sqlite3_column_name(result, i)]; NSString* value = [NSString stringWithUTF8String:(const char*)sqlite3_column_text(result, i)]; if([modelInstance respondsToSelector:@selector(setValue:forKey:)]) [modelInstance setValue:value forKey:key]; } [models addObject:modelInstance]; } sqlite3_finalize(result); sqlite3_close(db); return models; } Funny thing is, the respondsToSelector: works, but if I try (in the debugger) to step over [modelInstance setValue:value forKey:key], it will throw an exception, and the stacktrace looks like: #0 0x302ac924 in ___TERMINATING_DUE_TO_UNCAUGHT_EXCEPTION___ #1 0x991d9509 in objc_exception_throw #2 0x302d6e4d in __CFRequireConcreteImplementation #3 0x00024d92 in +[DBManager findBySQL:intoModelClass:] at DBManager.m:114 #4 0x0001ea86 in -[FavoritesViewController initializeTableData:] at FavoritesViewController.m:423 #5 0x0001ee41 in -[FavoritesViewController initializeTableData] at FavoritesViewController.m:540 #6 0x305359da in __NSFireDelayedPerform #7 0x302454a0 in CFRunLoopRunSpecific #8 0x30244628 in CFRunLoopRunInMode #9 0x32044c31 in GSEventRunModal #10 0x32044cf6 in GSEventRun #11 0x309021ee in UIApplicationMain #12 0x00002988 in main at main.m:14 So, what's wrong with this? Presumably I'm doing something really stupid and just don't see it... Many thanks in advance for your answers, Arakyd :..

  • uiscrollview not switching image subviews

    - by nickthedude
    I'm building a comic viewer app, that consists of two view controllers, the root viewcontroller basically displays a view where a user decides what comic they want to read by pressing a button. The second viewController actually displays the comic as a uiscrollview with a toolbar and a title at the top. So the problem I am having is that the comic image panels themselves are not changing from whatever the first comic you go to if you select another comic after viewing the first one. The way I set it up, and I admit it's not exactly mvc, so please don't hate, anyway the way I set it up is each comic uiscrollview consists of x number of jpg images where each comic set's image names have a common prefix and then a number like 'funny1.jpg', 'funny2.jpg', 'funny3.jpg' and 'soda1.jpg', 'soda2.jpg', 'soda3.jpg', etc... so when a user selects a comic to view in the root controller it makes a call to the delegate and sets ivars on instances of the comicviewcontroller that belongs to the delegate (mainDelegate.comicViewController.property) I set the number of panels in that comic, the comic name for the title label, and the image prefix. The number of images changes(or at least the number that you can scroll through), and the title changes but for some reason the images are the same ones as whatever comic you clicked on initially. I'm basing this whole app off of the 'scrolling' code sample from apple. I thought if I added a viewWillAppear:(BOOL) animated call to the comicViewController everytime the user clicked the button that would fix it but it didn't, after all that is where the scrollview is laid out. Anyway here is some code from each of the two controllers: RootController: -(IBAction) launchComic2{ AppDelegate *mainDelegate = [(AppDelegate *) [UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; mainDelegate.myViewController.comicPageCount = 3; mainDelegate.myViewController.comicTitle.text = @"\"Death by ETOH\""; mainDelegate.myViewController.comicImagePrefix = @"etoh"; [mainDelegate.myViewController viewWillAppear:YES]; [mainDelegate.window addSubview: mainDelegate.myViewController.view]; comicViewController: -(void) viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated { self.view.backgroundColor = [UIColor viewFlipsideBackgroundColor]; // 1. setup the scrollview for multiple images and add it to the view controller // // note: the following can be done in Interface Builder, but we show this in code for clarity [scrollView1 setBackgroundColor:[UIColor whiteColor]]; [scrollView1 setCanCancelContentTouches:NO]; scrollView1.indicatorStyle = UIScrollViewIndicatorStyleWhite; scrollView1.clipsToBounds = YES; // default is NO, we want to restrict drawing within our scrollview scrollView1.scrollEnabled = YES; // pagingEnabled property default is NO, if set the scroller will stop or snap at each photo // if you want free-flowing scroll, don't set this property. scrollView1.pagingEnabled = YES; // load all the images from our bundle and add them to the scroll view NSUInteger i; for (i = 1; i <= self.comicPageCount; i++) { NSString *imageName = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@%d.jpg", self.comicImagePrefix, i]; NSLog(@"%@%d.jpg", self.comicImagePrefix, i); UIImage *image = [UIImage imageNamed:imageName]; UIImageView *imageView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:image]; // setup each frame to a default height and width, it will be properly placed when we call "updateScrollList" CGRect rect = imageView.frame; rect.size.height = kScrollObjHeight; rect.size.width = kScrollObjWidth; imageView.frame = rect; imageView.tag = i; // tag our images for later use when we place them in serial fashion [scrollView1 addSubview:imageView]; [imageView release]; } [self layoutScrollImages]; // now place the photos in serial layout within the scrollview } - (void)layoutScrollImages { UIImageView *view = nil; NSArray *subviews = [scrollView1 subviews]; // reposition all image subviews in a horizontal serial fashion CGFloat curXLoc = 0; for (view in subviews) { if ([view isKindOfClass:[UIImageView class]] && view.tag 0) { CGRect frame = view.frame; frame.origin = CGPointMake(curXLoc, 0); view.frame = frame; curXLoc += (kScrollObjWidth); } } // set the content size so it can be scrollable [scrollView1 setContentSize:CGSizeMake((self.comicPageCount * kScrollObjWidth), [scrollView1 bounds].size.height)]; } Any help would be appreciated on this. • AVAudioPlayer crash after playing from an AVAudioRecord

    - by munchine
    I've got a button the user tap to start recording and tap again to stop. When it stop I want the recorded voice 'echo' back so the user can hear what was recorded. This works fine the first time. If I hit the button for the third time, it starts a new recording and when I hit stop it crashes with EXC_BAD_ACCESS. - (IBAction) readToMeTapped { if(recording) { recording = NO; [readToMeButton setTitle:@"Stop Recording" forState: UIControlStateNormal ]; NSMutableDictionary *recordSetting = [[NSDictionary alloc] initWithObjectsAndKeys: [NSNumber numberWithFloat: 44100.0], AVSampleRateKey, [NSNumber numberWithInt: kAudioFormatAppleLossless], AVFormatIDKey, [NSNumber numberWithInt: 1], AVNumberOfChannelsKey, [NSNumber numberWithInt: AVAudioQualityMax], AVEncoderAudioQualityKey, nil]; // Create a new dated file NSDate *now = [NSDate dateWithTimeIntervalSinceNow:0]; NSString *caldate = [now description]; recordedTmpFile = [NSURL fileURLWithPath:[[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@/%@.caf", DOCUMENTS_FOLDER, caldate] retain]]; error = nil; recorder = [[ AVAudioRecorder alloc] initWithURL:recordedTmpFile settings:recordSetting error:&error]; if(!recorder){ NSLog(@"recorder: %@ %d %@", [error domain], [error code], [[error userInfo] description]); UIAlertView *alert = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle: @"Warning" message: [error localizedDescription] delegate: nil cancelButtonTitle:@"OK" otherButtonTitles:nil]; [alert show]; [alert release]; return; } NSLog(@"Using File called: %@",recordedTmpFile); //Setup the recorder to use this file and record to it. I thought it may have something to do with releasing memory but I've been careful. Have I missed something?

  • MKMapView not centered on pin

    - by Val Smith
    Hi all, I have an mkmapview that i'm currently adding pins to, but for some reason when I call [mapView setRegion:[detailItem coordinateRegion] animated:YES]; the pin is off-centered (toward the right side of the screen) on the map. Here is the code for [deailItem coordinateRegion]: - (MKCoordinateRegion)coordinateRegion { MKCoordinateRegion region = { {0.0, 0.0 }, { 0.0, 0.0 } }; region.center = self.coordinate; region.span.longitudeDelta = 0.0075f; region.span.latitudeDelta = 0.0075f; return (region); } I'm setting the coordinateRegion's center to the object's x,y coordinate, so why is it off-center on the map? I feel like there's something I'm missing here... ::Val::

  • Cocoa NSString explode

  • NSString copy not copying?

    - by Scotty Allen
    NSString *myString = @"sample string"; NSString *newString = [NSString stringWithString: myString]; If I set a breakpoint after these two lines, the pointer for myString is the same as the pointer for newString. WTF? Isn't NSString copy supposed to return a pointer to a new object? Or am I missing something fundamental about how copy is supposed to work?

  • UITabBarController With UINavigationController "more" Tab Issue

    - by Medlay
    UITabBarController with UINavigationController "more" tab issue There is a problem with using UINavigationController in UITabBarController. I have a TabBar  with 6 items. Of course, a standart item "more" appears, and there are two UINavigationControllers that didn't fit in a TabBar. The core of the problem is: when I'm working with visible items (a first four), UIViewController can be pushed  in an UINavigationController: [self.navigationController pushViewController:userDataViewController animated:YES]; If you call on in "more" and rearrange items in such way, that a visible UINavigationController gets into "more", when calling on it userDataViewController appears.  This  userDataViewController is the last, which has got in a stack and a Back button leads back to "more", but not to the controllers, that were before a userDataViewController appeared. I understand that in fact a selector pushViewController is called from "more", and it pushes my UINavigationController in a stack, and it's not good. Maybe, someone has faced such problem and could help me to solve it? Thank you forward.

  • Objective C: Initalizing static variable with static method call

    - by adranale
    The Compiler claims an error saying: "initializer element is not constant", when I try to initialize a static variable inside a method with a call to a static method (with + in its definition). Anyway I can tell him that this method always returns the same value. I know this is not the same as static method, but there seems to be no constant methods in Objective-C (other than macros which won't work here because I am calling UI_USER_INTERFACE_IDIOM() from inside the method).
