• Can't connect to Wireless Access Point after installing proprietary drivers

  I had Windows Vista Basic installed on my computer and I replaced it with Ubuntu 10.10. I then preceded to do the following: I downloaded the wireless driver from 'additional drivers' I enabled my wireless card And now it won't connect to my router but my game systems will. Then I downloaded WiFi-Radar  which did not seem to fix the problem. I still cannot connect to the Internet. I have done an exhaustive search of the Internet and turned up nothing.

• Self Documenting Code Vs. Commented Code

  I had a search but didn't find what I was looking for, please feel free to link me if this question has already being asked. Earlier this month this post was made: http://net.tutsplus.com/tutorials/php/why-youre-a-bad-php-programmer/ Basically to sum it up, you're a bad programmer if you don't write comments. My personal opinion is that code should be descriptive and mostly not require comment's unless the code cannot be self describing. In the example given // Get the extension off the image filename $pieces = explode('.', $image_name); $extension = array_pop($pieces); The author said this code should be given a comment, my personal opinion is the code should be a function call that is descriptive: $extension = GetFileExtension($image_filename); However in the comments someone actually made just that suggestion: http://net.tutsplus.com/tutorials/php/why-youre-a-bad-php-programmer/comment-page-2/#comment-357130 The author responded by saying the commenter was "one of those people", i.e, a bad programmer. • CSS just for most basic HTML

  I've read that my note system Wikidpad, which exports to very simple HTML, can use CSS (http://wikidpad.sourceforge.net/help/HtmlCss.html) The elements in the output are not more than basic headings, bullet points and tables. I'd like to try some kind of improved style, but I as I have no knowledge about CSS, so the best I can do is to save some Myfile.css to a directory :) However if I google "CSS template" I get all sorts of complicating results that I cannot make sense of :( Am I using wrong terminology? Can you suggest what I should search for or maybe you even know a ressource where a get a simple CSS file with some decent standard HTML elements. I do not wish to make custom adjustments.

• How do I add a network printer in Ubuntu 12.04?

  I know the name and the IP address of a network printer, but I can't seem to be able to search by IP address or name. Ubuntu developers love to move things around to make it difficult for users, so now with Ubuntu 12.04 I can only go on Application -> System Tools -> System Settings -> Printers, click on Network and a list of printers appears. Too bad the one I want to add isn't there. How do I do it? Here it suggests System -> Administration -> Printing, which simply doesn't exist.

• Removed Xserver driver. ubuntu doesnt start. what should i Do?

  im new on ubuntu , i intalled it ( dual booted with windows 7) i was customizing it, but when i tried to run compiz it said that missing glx or something like that in the screen, i realized that the driver that i was not using wasnt the gefroce on so i went to nvidia downloaded the correct version for my graphic ( geforce gtm 525m) when y run the .run file it told me that i was using xserver and that i cant install this driver with the xserver installed. i search for information of how to remove or disable xserver i found one. in this web site --http://www.ubuntugeek.com/ubuntu-tiphow-to-removeinstall-and-reconfigure-xorg-without-reinstalling-ubuntu.html when i run the command , after that i tried to instal the geforce on, doesnt work so i remember windows that you must reboot after a driver unintallation or intallation so i reboot, them ubuntu doesnto load, it show the ubuntu whit the five dots like or 1-2 sec and them i get a black screen ( not the red-black of ubutntu ) so why i should do. i dont want to re install i dont have a cd and my usb is a little damaged so please if you could help me

• Does the keyword blog in url impove seo?

  I have seen a couple of site which has high number of hits. They are mostly tutorial sites and blogs that address software issue/errors. I wonder if the kewybord "blog" has a very positive effect in SEO? In my own site, I have install word press in root folder to avoid any blog keyword. I also did this to keep urls shallow (deeper url are not good for SEO). But I may want to think on it again. The sites I am referring too are http://blog.sqlauthority.com http://veerasundar.com/blog/2011/11/making-xampp-to-serve-any-directory-outside-htdocs/ I know there are standard (sort of) class names or ID that identify different contents and makes it easier for the search engine to identify contents like, "container", "menu". What are the main factors that go into choosing a CSS framework, and how will those choices map to certain frameworks? More generally, how does one choose a CSS framework? Note 1: I'm using "grid" and "framework" almost interchangeably here, but there is probably one I should use over the other. Corrections on this are welcome. • F# open source project hosting using SVN

  Hi all, I'm looking to choose open source project hosting site for an F# project using SVN. CodePlex is where the .NET community in general and most F# projects are hosted, but I'm worried TFS + SvnBridge is going to give me headaches. So I'm looking elsewhere and seeking advice here. Or if you think CodePlex is still the best choice in my scenario, I'd like to hear that too. So far, Google Code is looking appealing to me. They have a clean interface and true SVN hosting. But there are close to no F# projects currently hosted (it's not even in their search by programming language list), so I'm wondering if there are any notable downsides besides the lack of community I might encounter. If there is yet another option, I'd like to hear that too. Thanks!

• Unity Gwibber lens doesn't work 12.10

  Is there something Specific I am needing to do to get the unity Gwibber/Social lens to work. I have gone into system settings and added google account, twitter account and facebook account. When I go to the lens however nothing is displayed at all its blank. I search any term including my name and it states nothing to display. So it remains blank. If I start gwibber itself it has found and does see my accounts new messages and posts. Any hints on what to try?

  I'm running 12.10 with xmonad. Trying to ensure that the right things happen when I close laptop lid, etc. I see Internet search results for similar issues that mostly point towards gnome-power-manager. I have the package installed, but gnome-power-manager is not in my path anywhere. The behavior I'm looking for is as following: Sleep on lid close Awaken on lid open Turn off screen after 10 idle minutes Most importantly, have better battery life. I'm supposed to be getting 9 hours and I haven't seen the battery life estimate above 2.5 hours yet. Any tips on where to look or how to configure this would be much appreciated.

• Will Xubuntu 12.10 also have amazon ads?

  and thanks in advance for your comments: I'm currently using Ubuntu 12.04, and quite happy with it. I'm using the Unity desktop, and I've got no major complaints. My problem/question is: I've been reading on the news, forums, and different websites that the new version in 12.10, which i'll eventually have to upgrade to if I plan on using Ubuntu, has a lens/amazon function on the dash that sends queries to amazon. Now, this disturbs me a bit, since I don't want to see "shopping recommendations" everytime I look for something, be they from amazon or from "future partners". Does this new "function" only apply to the Unity desktop? If I switch to the Xfce desktop, will I be able to "save myself" from sending search data to amazon and/or shopping recommendations from them? Or will I have to entirely switch distributions, in order to evade this? Again, many thanks in advance for your comments and/or help. Regards, Miguel.

• managing information/functionality on shared common project classes

  In my company, we have a common solution the contains common projects (2 projects so far, one for .net 3.5 and one for .net 4.5). My main problem is that during time, a lot of code is added, for example hosting a process as windows service is a class called ServiceManagement, But no one but the developer knows it, and if someone wants to use this shared class, he does not know it exist. So i am looking for a way to document and manage all the classes with tags, a 3rd party util/web util, that i can search for tags and maybe find common classes that i can use (if we keep all our code well-documented). Does anyone familiar with sort of tools ?

• Number crunching algo for learning multithreading?

  I have never really implemented anything dealing with threads; my only experience with them is reading about them in my undergrad. So I want to change that by writing a program that does some number crunching, but splits it up into several threads. My first ideas for this hopefully simple multithreaded program were: Beal's Conjecture brute force based on my SO question. Bailey-Borwein-Plouffe formula for calculating Pi. Prime number brute force search As you can see I have an interest in math and thought it would be fun to incorporate it into this, rather than coding something such as a server which wouldn't be nearly as fun! But the 3 ideas don't seem very appealing and I have already done some work on them in the past so I was curious if anyone had any ideas in the same spirit as these 3 that I could implement?
