  • Modify static data members from another process?

    - by cake
    In .Net, is it possible for process A to modify the values of some static data members from process B? When running under the same AppDomain, it's possible to do so via Reflection, but about doing so between different process? (via Reflection also. I'm not looking to use functions such as Win32::ReadProcessMemory)

  • getopt implicit declaration in Solaris?

    - by Steven
    In Solaris, gcc gives me implicit declaration of function `getopt' when compiling #include <unistd.h> #include <stdlib.h> int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { getopt(1,argv,""); return 0; } The man page for getopt says something about including unistd.h or stdio.h, however even though I'm inluding both I still get this warning. Is this normal? Is using functions that aren't explicitly declared common in Unix development?

  • TextMate can show definition of a function easily?

    - by Jian Lin
    I am using TextMate on a Ruby on Rails project and wonder if you can put the mouse on link_to, and then press a key and it will show the definition of link_to, or does this for any other helper functions? Or, click open a box and type in a function name and it will show you the definition?

  • why do you write tests and what is a unit test and how does it differ other types of testing ?

    - by dfafa
    im curious as to know, why tests are written? why would bother writing it ? why not just compile and run the code or view it in your browser, click around and test out stuff. i mean i can understand, a crawler that checks your web app's functions....but why is tests written, maintained and treated as important as the main feature codes ? is it crucial to always write and use tests ?

  • [PHP] How to pass array as multiple parameters to function?

    - by vbklv
    I have a parameters array: $params[1] = 'param1'; $params[2] = 'param2'; $params[3] = 'param3'; ... $params[N] = 'paramN'; I have a caller to various functions: $method->$function( $params ); How can I parse the $params array, so multiple (and unlimited) parameters can be passed to any function: $method->$function( $param[1], $param[2], ..., $param[N] );

  • Standard library function in R for finding the mode?

    - by Nick
    In statistical language R, mean() and median() are standard functions which do what you'd expect. mode() tells you the internal storage mode of the R object, not the value that occurs the most in its argument. But surely there is a standard library function that implements mode for a vector (or list).

  • VB6 code for Reading/Writing Windows Registry values

    - by Clay Nichols
    I'm looking for a good example of reading and writing to the Windows Registry using VB6. Yes, I know there are lots of mediocre examples. I spent an hour googling and testing. Some were incredibly complex, others had only some of the functions, and almost none of it had been vetted in any way (voted on). Since Stack Overflow is intended to the canonical location for answers to programming questions, it seems reasonable to post it here.

  • What does (void**) mean in C?

    - by numerical25
    I would look this up, but honestly I wouldn't know where to start because I don't know what it is called. I've seen variables passed to functions like this: myFunction((void**)&variable); Which confuses the heck out of me cause all of those look familiar to me; I've just never seen them put together like that before. What does it mean? I am a newb so the less jargon, the better, thanks!

  • 'goto' usage

    - by Landon
    I've long been under the impression that 'goto' should never be used if possible. While perusing libavcodec (which is written in C) the other day, I noticed multiple uses of it. Is it ever advantageous to use 'goto' in a language that supports loops and functions? If so, why?

  • C++ choose function by return type.

    - by anon
    I realize standard C++ only picks functions by argument type, not return type. I.e I can do something like: void func(int); void func(double); but not double func(); int func(); Where in the former, it's clear, in the latter, it's ambigious. Are there any extensions that lets me tell C++ to pick which function to use also by return type? Thanks!

  • In jQuery, is there any way to only bind a click once?

    - by Chris Henry
    I have an ajax app that will run functions on every interaction. I'd like to be able to run my setup function each time so all my setup code for that function remains encapsulated. However, binding elements more than once means that the handler will run more than once, which is obviously undesirable. Is there an elegant way in jQuery to call bind on an element more than once without the handler being called more than once?

  • getJSON and variable scope in javascript

    - by nillls
    Hi! In order to make function calls to our back-end php code we've implemented something called an ActionProxy like this: function ActionProxy(action, input, callback){ $.post("ActionProxy.php?method="+action, { data: input}, function(data, textStatus, XMLHttpRequest){ //return data.ResponseWhatever } }); The problem we're having is that using data outside the ActionProxy is impossible due to variable scope limitations (we assume), setting var res = data.ResponseWhatever or return data.ResponseWhatever is pretty futile. How would one handle these responses most appropriately so that functions calling the actionproxy can access the response values?

  • remove utf-8 figure spaces with php

    - by Jeroen Beerstra
    I have some xml files with figure spaces in it, I need to remove those with php. The utf-8 code for these is e2 80 a9. If I'm not mistaken php does not seem to like 6 byte utf-8 chars, so far at least I'm unable to find a way to delete the figure spaces with functions like preg_replace. Anybody any tips or even better a solution to this problem?

  • Accessing smart card with Java

    - by Tom Brito
    I'm trying to learn about how does Java access smart cards, due to a project analysis. I wonder if there is any kind of virtual smart card which I could use to make some tests with Java? By the way, I've read about Java Card, and looks like it is used to run Java in cards, not to smart card data access, right?

  • How could one emulate namespace in C?

    - by skydoor
    In C++ one might use namespace to keep independent groups working in the same code base from inadvertently creating functions with the same name and thus creating a conflict. My question is, before the idea of namespace comes out, how might one emulate namespace in C.

  • How to call Java method from C++

    - by fhucho
    Hi, I am using JNI to call my C++ function from Java. One of the C++ function's arguments is jobject thiz (as far as I know, all JNI native functions have this argument). The function takes quite long to complete and I want to report progress back to the jobject thiz Java object, so that I can show the progress to the user. How can I call jobject's methods from C++?

  • Linking and Redirecting between multiple applications running under a single system folder

    - by Gurunandan
    I am running multiple applications with a single Codeigniter system/ folder using the recommended way on the Codeigniter wiki. Each application runs fine and I can link between apps using absolute URLs. Is there some way I can use or extend the URL helper class (functions like anchor(), redirect()... etc.) to generate links to controllers across applications. I would like to avoid absolute URLs Thanks!

  • c++ recursion with arrays

    - by Sam
    I have this project that I'm working on for a class, and I'm not looking for the answer, but maybe just a few tips since I don't feel like I'm using true recursion. The problem involves solving the game of Hi Q or "peg solitaire" where you want the end result to be one peg remaining (it's played with a triangular board and one space is open at the start.) I've represented the board with a simple array, each index being a spot and having a value of 1 if it has a peg, and 0 if it doesn't and also the set of valid moves with a 2 dimensional array that is 36, 3 (each move set contains 3 numbers; the peg you're moving, the peg it hops over, and the destination index.) So my problem is that in my recursive function, I'm using a lot of iteration to determine things like which space is open (or has a value of 0) and which move to use based on which space is open by looping through the arrays. Secondly, I don't understand how you would then backtrack with recursion, in the event that an incorrect move was made and you wanted to take that move back in order to choose a different one. This is what I have so far; the "a" array represents the board, the "b" array represents the moves, and the "c" array was my idea of a reminder as to which moves I used already. The functions used are helper functions that basically just loop through the arrays to find an empty space and corresponding move. : void solveGame(int a[15], int b[36][3], int c[15][3]){ int empSpace; int moveIndex; int count = 0; if(pegCount(a) < 2){ return; } else{ empSpace = findEmpty(a); moveIndex = chooseMove( a, b, empSpace); a[b[moveIndex][0]] = 0; a[b[moveIndex][1]] = 0; a[b[moveIndex][2]] = 1; c[count][0] = b[moveIndex][0]; c[count][1] = b[moveIndex][1]; c[count][2] = b[moveIndex][2]; solveGame(a,b,c); } }
