• Computer Studdering When Transferring Over Network

  This is a really weird problem that I've never even seen before. When I copy to or from my server share, my computer studders terribly and the data transfers very slowly at only around 12MB/s. By studdering I mean the mouse skips around and all my applications respond very slowly; as soon as I cancel the transfer it resolves immediately. I looked at Task Manager and the CPU is only at ~35% with plenty of RAM free. This only started semi-recently; before, I had no problems and the transfer speed maxed out the gigabit connection. I have two hard drives in my computer. When I try transferring files between drives it's fine, but when I copy from the share to either drive or to it from either drive, I get studdering. I'm running Windows 7 x64. Anyone have any idea what's going on? Any help would be much appreciated.

• How to copy files pointed to (not the shortcut files themselves)

  I have a folder containing shortcuts that point to files that are located in various directories and drives. I would like to copy the files pointed to (NOT the shortcut files themselves) to a single destination folder. Is there a way in windows (XP, Vista, 7), file manager, or some utility I can use to do this? I've heard you can do this with various multi-step custom scripts. However, I've heard rumors there is a one click way to do this without having to fabricate a custom script each time, where regardless where the shortcuts point to, I can select the group of shortcuts and do a copy operation that will grab the files they point to. Then, I can paste or otherwise put the actual files (not shortcuts) into one directory. It would be very time consuming to manually find each file pointed to by a shortcut and one by one copy them to the target folder. Note that I've seen this question asked before on the internet but haven't seen a good answer.

• Nokia Pc Suite problems with bluetooth (win7)

  I have a new Nokia C5-00 and a HP 620. The Bluetoothdriver are installed and the windows Bluetoothstack finds the mobile. After installing Nokia PC Suite I am asked to choose a connection method. As I click on Bluetooth the Nokia PC Suite shows an error message: "Cannot use the connection type.Check that all the needd hardware,software and drivers are available. (Code: OpenMedia)" I tried to switch it on and off via the "wireless" key on the laptop. The HP Software for the button shows that the Bluetooth is deactivated and advices me to go to the device manager and activate the Bluetooth device. Strangely the Bluetooth symbol (I guess from the windows Bluetoothstack) pops up at the same time and I can use the Bluetooth in it's basic windows features, but still nokia suite won't work. ideas????

  I would like to be able to have a nice management tool to allow the rollout of different versions of a windows service over time. for example I would like to deploy my software (windows service) in version numbered folders, e.g. c:\wss\v1.0 c:\wss\v1.1 etc however I dont want to have to reinstall the windows service each time but rather would like to be able to easily point the windows service manager to the new folder. Are there tools to get this done? NB: I have used Windows Junctions before (from sysinternals) however I am wondering if there is a nice GUI tool to do this.

• "Request not supported" in IPCONFIG (WinXP SP3)

  In a customer PC (Windows XP SP3), suddenly the network went down: the network adapter appears with an error mark. I replaced the network card, but the new one does the same thing. When I enter IPCONFIG, XP shows this error (in standard and safe mode): Internal error occurred Request not supported Unable to query host name If I start the system with a boot cd the PC runs fine, so the problem seems to be in the XP installation. I tried: uninstalling and reinstalling the network card in the Device Manager disabling and reenabling the card netsh int ip reset netsh winsock reset catalog and a couple of "reset" programs (WinsockxpFix.exe, etc) with no luck. Is there any way to fix it without reinstalling XP? TIA, Pablo

• IPsec Policy Agent flip-flopping demand start/auto start in Windows Server 2008?

  Looking through the event logs on my web server I noticed a strange pattern. The following events have been occurring over and over again, always back to back: The start type of the IPsec Policy Agent service was changed from demand start to auto start. The start type of the IPsec Policy Agent service was changed from auto start to demand start. Each one produces event id 7040 from the Service Control Manager. And sometimes this will happen 20 times in one minute. Any idea what would cause this? I've been trying to pinpoint an intermittent performance problem for the past several days and this is the most peculiar thing I've found so far. I'm running Windows Server 2008, SQL Server 2008, and ASP.NET 3.5 w/ MVC 1.

• Listing pending reboots in windows

  I'm trying to install SQL Server 2008 on a Windows Server 2008 x86 system, and I'm getting an error saying "Rule 'Restart computer' failed." I've already found a lot of people saying to clear the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\PendingFileRenameOperations, but sadly this key doesn't even exist in the registry on my server. I know I've run into this exact problem before, and that remedy did not work the previous time either. I eventually found a way to list the processes that currently require a reboot in Windows, which I used as a guide for what to uninstall. I cannot, for the life of me, find out how to do that again. Does anyone know how to list the pending required reboots in windows via command line or some other tool?

• Asus EeePC X101CH Touchpad issue

  I have an Asus EeePC X101CH that the touchpad was uninstalled from (I saw the uninstall dialog boxes open). After a restart there was a PS/2 mouse under View Hidden Devices in Device Manager that wasn't installed properly (I'm assuming that this is the touchpad). Going to the Asus website and downloading the drivers (V15.3.27.1), I get the error message "Synaptics device not found!". I tried the other driver Version v9.1.7.7 for the Sentelic TouchPad as well (when run it appears to be the driver for the finger sensing) and got the error message "This driver version is inapplicable for the touch pad. Please check the devices on the system and install the suitable driver.". What's my next step? Thanks!

• SBS 2008 DNS issues in BPA

  I'm gettng constant Critical Issue events in the Small Business Server Best Practices Analyser & resulting SBS Console reports that begin "The DNS client is not configured to point only to the internal IP address of the server.". When I check the DNS Manager, there are two separate IPs listed, one ***.***.***.2 and the other ***.***.***.28. I have checked online after an ipconfig /all and have found the reason for this to be that the second IP is created by DHCP for RAS & VPN purposes. It seems to cause no conflicts of any detrimental result apart from constantly sending me error messages and alerted reports. Does anyone know of a way that I can change settings somewhere so that Windows accepts this second IP, or at least stops alerting me of its prescence? Perhaps a registry hack of some kind...? • Stream Music To Ventrilo From ESXi VM

  I would like to stream music to my Ventrilo server from a Windows XP virtual machine running on an ESXi host. I have followed the instructions outlined here to stream music from something like VLC to the Ventrilo server on another machine and it works fine. I have also added the lines: sound.present = "TRUE" sound.virtualDev = "es1371" sound.fileName = "-1" sound.autodetect = "TRUE" to my .vmx file, as suggested here (http://communities.vmware.com/thread/191878), to get a sound card in my VM. The problem I am having is that it seems that my VM is not outputting any sound, so there's nothing to stream through Ventrilo. The Device Manager on the VM shows that this new sound card has drivers and doesn't appear to have any concerns with it. Can someone point me in the right direction to get my desired outcome? Thanks! • cannot install new drivers for ATI Radeon HD mobility

  I have an ATI mobility Radeon HD 3200 graphics card with a driver that I downloaded from my computer manufacturer's site. I wanted to upgrade the driver so I downloaded the respective driver from ATI and ran the installation. However, the installation only installs the download manager, the App SDK, C++ distributables and CCC, no display driver. When I try opening the CCC, I get an error that quits the CCC, something about the display driver not being recognized. What is wrong here? How do I go about fixing this? thanks

  I am setting up a CentOS server with Virtualmin and Postfix, and I am trying to use LDAP to store unix users, groups, Postfix aliases and virtual domains. I am following the instructions from Webmin's site. I have created an LDAP domain and configured Postfix to fetch Aliases and Virtual Domains from LDAP, but in order to do so I had to configure postfix to authenticate with the master LDAP account, cn=Manager,dc=mydomain,dc=com. This seems like a terrible idea because that account has access to the Users and Groups, which postfix does not need access to. How can I create a new LDAP account for Postfix which only has access to the LDAP trees Postfix needs?

• Windows 7 won't show SATA Hard Drive in My Computer

  I have clean install of Windows 7 x64 with two SATA hard drives. When I open My Computer, I can see only the drive where Windows are installed (and all partitions), but I don't see the other one. When I go to disk manager, I can see that both drives are detected and the one that I don't see in My Computer is also marked as Primary, but when I right click, the Open and Browse are gray. I also checked drives with gparted on live Ubuntu and they both seem to work correctly, the second drive wasn't marked hidden or anything else. Before installing Windows 7, I had Windows XP, where both drives worked properly.

  I currently am trying to get my domain verified on Amazon's SES and running int a problem that google searches are not helping me get any closer to solving. According to SES, I have to create a TXT record in my DNS for the domain I'm trying to verify. Amazon gives you the following (value changed for security purposes); TYPE: TXT NAME: _amazonses.somedomain.com VALUE: M2sXTycXkgZXXuMuWI8TczngaPIDDMToPefzGhZ3uYA= I have tried numerous entries in my registrar's DNS manager, but SES still fails to find what it's looking for. I am not a DNS guru, so, I have tried to construct the TXT record from very sparse examples, at best, to try to get this right.   I have a piece of software i have to install on company laptops. The installer needs a serial to work properly, but i don't have it (my manager isn't here so i cant ask him). The installer tells me to ring a phone number which doesnt appear to be connected anymore. I would download win32dasm and ollydbg and have a go at cracking the installer but i dont really have time and i havnt done it in years. There is a zip file on the disc that looks like it contains all the program files but it is passworded. Is it feasible to crack this or will it take ages?

  I have supervisor setup to manage a few processes. It works perfectly fine when I boot my server, however when I stop it and try to start it again it fails and give's me this error msg: * Starting Supervisor daemon manager... Error: Another program is already listening on a port that one of our HTTP servers is configured to use. Shut this program down first before starting supervisord. For help, use /usr/bin/supervisord -h ...fail! I'm running nginx on port 80 and 4 web servers on ports 8000, 8001, 8002, 8003 Does anyone have any idea of what is going on? • Domain Outlook user is asked for password every time despite checking the 'remember password' button

  We have a windows 2003 domain. All users have roaming profiles. We have a couple of users who, when they log into outlook, are asked for their password every time, despite selecting the 'remember my password' option. Our email is externally hosted exchange email. I've tried several fixes found on google such as deleting 'protect' folder in the user's profile, and deleting protect key in the registry but none work. I tried storing the password in windows' password/credentials manager, didn't work. It happens on any PC the users log into so it's not a machine specific problem. Any ideas? OS is Windows XP pro. Outlook is 2007.

  I installed Adobe's Download Manager Software when I was downloading a CS4 trial. It was called Akamai. I can not seem to get rid of this pesky thing. I have Little Snitch installed so I was annoyed that it showed that this app would phone home for updates every login. I felt this was an unnecessary process I wanted rid of. I've uninstalled it using App Cleaner. Now on login the Akamai app does not produce any Little Snitch prompts. "SoftwareUpdateCheck" does. SoftwareUpdateCheck wants to connect to a950.gi3.akamai.net on TCP 80. SoftwareUpdateCheck is /System/Library/CoreServices/SoftwareUpdate.app/Contents/Resources/SoftwareUpdateCheck. • How do I get my server to recognise a change in users?

  I'm new in post running a small charity. As a result I've inherited a system from the previous manager that was poorly run. In my enthusiasm to change login details etc. I appear to have killed my microsoft outlook account. When trying to access outlook it prompts me for my user name, domain name and password - which I'm obviously not filling in correctly because it's not accepting my answers. Is there a way to determine that information from the server side? I have access to the server and the staff computers.
