• How do I create a view with a picker on the bottom and a table view on the top?

  Hi - first time asker, long-time lurker. I am trying to create an iPhone view that has a date/time picker on the bottom half of the screen, and a grouped, single-section, four-row table view on the top half of the screen (almost identical to the one Apple shows in Fig. 2-4 of their View Controller Programming Guide (but then never goes on to explain). Conceptually, I think I understand that what I need is a main view with a pair of subviews - one for the picker, and one for the table view. I'm pretty sure I can make the picker function once I have it on-screen, and I'm pretty sure I can make the table view function too. What I can't for the life of me figure out is how, programmatically speaking, to get the two views onto the screen simultaneously. I can lay it out perfectly in Interface Builder, but then it all goes to hell when I switch to Xcode...the view appears with the picker, but no table view. I found a great comparison of the two database at http://www.amsoftwaredesign.com/pg_vs_fb But this comparison is a good 2+ years old and both databases have come a long ways since. Does anyone mind updating the comparison table to be relevant for the current versions of both Firebird and Postgres ... or have a link to a site that does a good recent comparison between the two database?

• How to generate unique number of 12 digits?

  I'm working on an app that sends raw data to zebra printer and print out barcodes. And since every item has its own unique barcode, I need to define a variable that automatically generates unique number of 12 digits long. see example: printBar prnt = new printBar("123456789012"); Is there anyway to define a double variable and pass it to a function that return uniqely 12 digits number and pass it over again to the printBar class?. But how to make sure everytime you access it returns a unique value?. I also thought of another way, since am using MS Access db, I can create a column of AutoNumber datatype and assign it to Random, but you don't get the exact 12 digits required, sometimes it generates a value of 10 digits sometimes more or less.

  Hi, I need to extract the detail content of a website while preserve all formatting of the division. The section I wish to extract is: ... <div class="detailContent"><p> <P dir=ltr><STRONG>Hinweis</strong>: Auf ... </p> </div> ... My current solution is to use HTMLParser from libxml2 and xpath to find the nodes and walk through all the nodes to reconstruct this piece of HTML. This is a long an complicated code. I' just wondering if there is an easier solution to extract part of HTML? Thanks.

• What's the most "death-resistant" component on Android?

  I'm looking for the most suitable class to be a dispatcher for AsyncTasks invoked from my Activities. I think it could be one of these: subclass of Application; subclass of Service; my own static stuff. As for me - it's simlier to implement the 3rd choice. But the question is will it be more "death-resistant" than Service or Application? Also it's very interesting what will live longer - Application or Service? My guess is the Application lives as long as the app (task in terms of Android) process lives. So basically I need to range those options by their "death-resistant" quality, because I'd like to rely on the most "static" thing.

• C#: How to detect . in string and insert a space after it/How to insert space after n chars?

  Suppose I have a long string like "4600airportburlingame150anzablvd.burlingamecalifornia94010". My code is breaking on this string. This is UNUSUAL. 99% of entries will NOT have a period. The CSS in the browser wraps IF there are spaces in the string and there isn't any here. How do I detect the period (".") and insert a space directly after it? Remember 99% of strings will NOT have a period in them. The code has to detect if it has a period and if so, do the insertion, otherwise not. If I determine a maximum string length, how do I insert a space at some length? Thanks

• Javascript array length incorrect on array of objects

  Could someone explain this (strange) behavior? Why is the length in the first example 3 and not 2, and most importantly, why is the length in the second example 0? As long as the keys are numerical, length works. When they are not, length is 0. How can I get the correct length from the second example? • Problem with notification bar in fullscreen app

• Get newly created window using Win32 API hooks

  This may be a long short or not even possible but no harm in asking. What I am trying to do is monitor an application for any new windows it creates in its MDI control. I have implemented hooking in C# and can capture the MDICREATE window message but because I need to get information about the window after is has been created the MDICREATE message isn't much help because at that stage the window hasn't been created in the other application yet. Without going into to much detail I just need to be able to see when a new window has been created. Is this possible? Thanks

• C++'s char * by swig got problem in Python 3.0

  Our C++ lib works fine with Python2.4 using Swig, returning a C++ char* back to a python str. But this solution hit problem in Python3.0, error is: Exception=(, UnicodeDecodeError('utf8', b"\xb6\x9d\xa.....",0, 1, 'unexpected code byte') Our definition is like(working fine in Python 2.4): void cGetPubModulus( void* pSslRsa, char* cMod, int* nLen ); %include "cstring.i" %cstring_output_withsize( char* cMod, int* nLen ); Suspect swig is doing a Bytes-Str conversion automatically. In python2.4 it can be implicit but in Python3.0 it's no long allowed.. Anyone got a good idea? thanks

• what kind of credentials/prerequisites do you need to be a professional penetration tester ?

  does it take more than knowing Bt4 ? are there any one that just runs a scanner and no real labor involved ? would you be expected to be able to code your own exploits without having to dl from milw0rm and discover entry into a system by yourself, in other words, do you have to think outside the box even when there's so many tools that makes the job a lot easier ? would you ever be expected to be able to write your own scanners, exploits and etc ? i am also curious how people are able to write long pages of hex address, that magically causes some type of memory overflow...how are people guessing at the hex values for game hacks for instance ? are certification important ? what about formal school education ? I am a CS major.

• GVim highlighting with matchadd eventually slows down?

It's an essential feature for me when working with something like Django. It all works fine for random amounts of time; from ten minutes to hours (my guess is it depends on how many files I open/close). But eventually when any line over 80 characters is displayed GVim slows to a halt and requires a restart. Does anyone have any ideas why this would eventually slow down?

• Embarrassingly parallel workflow creates too many output files

  On a Linux cluster I run many (N > 10^6) independent computations. Each computation takes only a few minutes and the output is a handful of lines. When N was small I was able to store each result in a separate file to be parsed later. With large N however, I find that I am wasting storage space (for the file creation) and simple commands like ls require extra care due to internal limits of bash: -bash: /bin/ls: Argument list too long. Each computation is required to run through a qsub scheduling algorithm so I am unable to create a master program which simply aggregates the output data to a single file. The simple solution of appending to a single fails when two programs finish at the same time and interleave their output. I have no admin access to the cluster, so installing a system-wide database is not an option. How can I collate the output data from embarrassingly parallel computation before it gets unmanageable?

• MySQL query for initial filling of order column

  Sorry for vague question title. I've got a table containing huge list of, say, products, belonging to different categories. There's a foreign key column indicating which category that particular product belongs to. I.e. in "bananas" row category might be 3 which indicates "fruits". Now I added additional column "order" which is for display order within that particular category. I need to do initial ordering. Since the list is big, I dont wanna change every row by hand. Is it possible to do with one or two queries? I dont care what initial order is as long as it starts with 1 and goes up. I cant do something like SET order = id because id counts from 1 up regardless of product category and order must start anew from 1 up for every different category.

• What Windows message is fired for mouse-up with modifier keys?

  My WndProc isn't seeing mouse-up notifications when I click with a modifier key (shift or control) pressed. I see them without the modifier key, and I see mouse-down notifications with the modifier keys. I'm using the Windows Forms NativeWindow wrapper to get Windows messages from the WndProc() method. I've tried tracking the notifications I do get, and I the only clue I see is WM_CAPTURECHANGED. I've tried calling SetCapture when I receive the WM_LBUTTONDOWN message, but it doesn't help. Without modifier (skipping paint, timer and NCHITTEST messages): WM_LBUTTONDOWN WM_SETCURSOR WM_MOUSEMOVE WM_SETCURSOR WM_LBUTTONUP With modifier (skipping paint, timer and NCHITTEST messages): WM_KEYDOWN WM_PARENTNOTIFY WM_MOUSEACTIVATE WM_MOUSEACTIVATE WM_SETCURSOR WM_LBUTTONDOWN WM_SETCURSOR (repeats) WM_KEYDOWN (repeats) WM_KEYUP If I hold the mouse button down for a long time, I can usually get a WM_LBUTTONUP notification, but it should be possible to make it more responsive.. • Python IDLE freezes

  This is absolutely frustrating, but I am not sure if the following is an issue only on my machine or with IDLE in general. When attempting to print a long list in the shell, and that could happen by accident while debugging, the program crushes and you have to restart it manually. Even worse, if you have a few editor windows open, it always spawns a few sub-processes, and each of these has to be manually shut down from the task manager. Is there any way to avoid that? I am using Python 3, by the way.

• Optimizing BeautifulSoup (Python) code

  I have code that uses the BeautifulSoup library for parsing, but it is very slow. The code is written in such a way that threads cannot be used. Can anyone help me with this? I am using BeautifulSoup for parsing and than save into a DB. • When to use SQL Table Alias

  I curious to know how people are using table alias. The other developers where I work always use table alias, and always use the alias of a, b, c, ect. Here's an example SELECT a.TripNum, b.SegmentNum, b.StopNum, b.ArrivalTime FROM Trip a, Segment b WHERE a.TripNum = b.TripNum I disagree with them, and think table alias should be use more sparingly. I think it should be used when including the same table twice in a query, or when the table name is very long and using a shorter name in the query will make the query easier to read. I also think the alias should be a good name instead of a letter. In the above example if I felt I needed to use 1 letter table alias I would use t for the Trip table and s for the segment table.

How can I take data I need from database and save it to file "at once"? (as quick as possible? I don't need xml output because I can process data from output on my server later. • Void in main and keeping Dos program from dying

  Alright, so im using bloodshed complier, first thing i should note is im using a 2001 edition C++ for the aboslute beginner, was there any changes to C++ since 2001 that would effect the validity of this book? i ask because i know php has php5 and now php6 but i havent seen any C++3. now for the reason i asked that, in this code it uses, void main (void) why would i want an arguement to be void? what does this do. But when i run the " void main (void) in my compiler it says that main must have a "int" before it. so i cant have "void" main (void); also, once the code runs through, as long as there isnt a "cin" the program closes. is this normal behavior, is there a better way to stop this besides making a cin at the end of my program.

• OGRE: Non-Standard Resolution

  I am using OGRE to make a re-rendering of the film, which has a wide aspect ratio (around 1.85). The OGRE dialog seems to be showing the standard full screen resolution by default (800/600, 1024/768, etc.), but those obviously have aspect ratios of 1.333 or around that. But as long as I am not running full screen mode, why should I be restricted to these screen sizes only? I can definitely change the viewport size, but that would make it difficult for me to generate the video later. Any idea?
