• Using resource values as layout attributes (config.xml)

  Looking in the android sdk folders, I've found a file called values/config.xml. This seems to be somewhere that you can define values for later use in layouts and animations. Given the config.xml: <resources> <string name="config_somePadding">50dip</string> </resources> How would I reference this to use as the layout_height in a layout xml file? @string/config_somePadding is actually the only one I've found that doesn't throw an error in Eclipse (even though there isn't a config_somePadding in values/strings.xml), but it appears to just put an empty string. In the sdk, they use an integer for animation duration. They reference it like this: android:duration="@android:integer/config_longAnimTime". Is there a way to use values that aren't integers in the layout_height attribute?

• Java Iterators - Trying to get a for each loop to work

  So I have a Tree<E> class where E is the datatype held and organized by the tree. I'd like to iterate through the Tree like this, or in a way similar to this: 1. Tree<String> tree=new Tree<String>(); 2. ...add some nodes... 3. for (String s : tree) 4. System.out.println(s); It gives me an error on line 3 though. Incompatible types required: java.lang.String found: java.lang.Object The following works fine and as expected though, performing a proper in-order traversal of the tree and printing each node out as it should: for (TreeIterator<String> i = tree.iterator(); i.hasNext(); ) System.out.println(i.next()); Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Do you need to see more of the code?

• Strings exported from a module have changed line breaks

  In a DrScheme project, I'm using a MrEd editor-canvas% with text% and inserting a string from a literal in a Scheme file. This results in an extra blank line in the editor for each line of text I'm trying to insert. I've tracked this down to the apparent fact that string literals from outside modules are getting extra line breaks. Here's a full example. The editor is irrelevant at this point, but it displays the result. ; test-literals.ss (module test-literals scheme (provide (all-defined-out)) (define exported-string "From another module with some more line breaks. I've traced in and figured out that it's changing Unix line breaks to Windows line breaks when strings are imported from another module, but these display as double line breaks. Why is this happening and is there a way to stop it other than changing every imported string?

  Hello I've a requirement where i need to pass some objects across the pages. So i created a custom class with all the properties required and created a instance of it and assigned all the properties appropriately. I then put that object in the session and took it the other page. The problem is that even when i set the properties values to the class it is coming as null. I set a breakpoint in the getter-setter and saw that the value itself is coming as null. • Receiving generic typed <T> custom objects through remote object in Flex

  Is it possible to receive custom generic typed objects through AMF? I'm trying to integrate a flex app with an existing C# service but flex is choking on custom generic typed objects. As far as I can tell Flex doesn't even support generics, but I'd like to be able to even just read in the object and cast its members as necessary. I basically just want flex to ignore the <T>. I'm hopeful that there's a way to do this, since flex doesn't complain about typed collections (a server call returning List works fine and flex converts it to an ArrayCollection just like an un-typed List). Here's a trimmed down example of what's going on for me: The custom C# typed class public class TypeTest<T> { public T value { get; set; } public TypeTest () { } } The server method returning the typeTest public TypeTest<String> doTypeTest() { TypeTest<String> theTester = new TypeTest<String>("grrrr"); return theTester; } The corresponding flex value object: [RemoteClass(alias="API.Model.TypeTest")] public class TypeTest { private var _value:Object; public function get value():Object { return _value; } public function set value(theValue:Object):void { _value = value; } public function TypeTest() { } } and the result handler code: public function doTypeTest(result:TypeTest):void { var theString:String = result.value as String; trace(theString); } When the result handler is called I get the runtime error: TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert mx.utils::ObjectProxy@11a98041 to com.model.vos.TypeTest. Irritatingly if I change the result handler to take parameter of type Object it works fine. Anyone know how to make this work with the value object? I feel like i'm missing something really obvious.

• MOSS: Creating site templates from publishing sites

  Hi, On my MOSS site I am trying to save a publishing site as a site template. Then create subsites from this template. I am able to sucessfully create the site template and it is populated in the site template gallery. Following these instructions.. http://blah.winsmarts.com/2007-7-All_you_ever_wanted_to_know_about_SharePoint_2007_Site_Templates.aspx But when I try and create a subsite from this template, an error message is displayed stating: The template you have chosen is invalid or cannot be found. at Microsoft.SharePoint.Library.SPRequestInternalClass.ApplyWebTemplate(String bstrUrl, String& bstrWebTemplate, Int32& plWebTemplateId) at Microsoft.SharePoint.Library.SPRequest.ApplyWebTemplate(String bstrUrl, String& bstrWebTemplate, Int32& plWebTemplateId) Any help would be very appreciated, Thanks Nav

• Axis webservice calls fail sometimes, access.log shows content!

  Hi, our app is a webservice client (axis 1) to a third party webservice (also axis 1). We use it for some years now. Since a few weeks, we (as a client) get sometimes HTTP status 400 (bad request) or read timeouts when calling the webservice. Strangely, the access.log of the service shows part of the request or the response instead of the URL. It looks like this (looks like the end of the request string) x.x.x.x -> y.y.y.y:8080 - - [timestamp] "POST /webservice HTTP/1.0" 200 16127 0 x.x.x.x -> y.y.y.y:8080 - - [timestamp] "POST /webservice HTTP/1.0" 200 22511 1 x.x.x.x -> y.y.y.y:8080 - - [timestamp] "il=\"true\"/><nsl:text xsi:type=\"xsd:string\" xsi:nil=\"true\"/></SOAPSomeOperation></soapenv:Body></soapenv:Envelope> Axis/1.4" 400 299 0 or (some string out of the what looks like the request) x.x.x.x -> y.y.y.y:8080 - - [timestamp] ":string\">some text</sometag><othertag>moretext" 400 299 0 or in some other cases it looks like two requests thrown together (... means xml string left out): x.x.x.x -> y.y.y.y:8080 - - [timestamp] "...</someop></soapenv:Body></soapenv:Envelope>:xsd=\"http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema\"...</soapenv:Body></soapenv:Envelope>" 400 299 0 Application log does not give any hints. Frequency of such call is 1% of all calls to that service. The only discriminator I know of so far is that it happens since operations informed us that the service url changed because of "server migration". Has anyone experienced such phenomenon yet? • can't increment Glib::ustring::iterator (getting "invalid lvalue in increment" compiler error)

  in the following code: int utf8len(char* s, int len) { Glib::ustring::iterator p( string::iterator(s) ); Glib::ustring::iterator e ( string::iterator(s+len) ); int i=0; for (; p != e; p++) // ERROR HERE! i++; return i; } I get the compiler error on the for line, which is sometimes "invalid lvalue in increment", and sometimes "ISO C++ forbids incrementing a pointer of type etc... ". Yet, the follwing code: int utf8len(char* s) { Glib::ustring us(s); int i=0; for (Glib::ustring::iterator p = us.begin(); p != us.end(); p++) i++; return i; } compiles and works fine. according the Glib::ustring documentation and the include file, ustring iterator can be constructed from std::string iterator, and has operator++() defined. Weird? BONUS QUESTION :) Is there a difference in C++ between the 2 ways of defining a variable: classname ob1( initval ); classname ob1 = initval; I believed that they are synonymous; yet, if I change Glib::ustring::iterator p( string::iterator(s) ); to Glib::ustring::iterator p = string::iterator(s); I get a compiler error (gcc 4.1.2) conversion from ‘__gnu_cxx::__normal_iterator, std::allocator ’ to non-scalar type ‘Glib::ustring_Iterator<__gnu_cxx::__normal_iterator, std::allocator ’ requesed thanks a lot!

Another case is why is it accepting anonymous method without parameters?

• Changing property type in class that implements interface with object type property.

  I know the title is a bit confusing but bare with me. (I'm up for suggestions on a new title lol) I'm writing a TemplateEngine that will allow me to use my own markup in text based files. I'm wanting to add controls as plugins as the application matures. Currently i've got a structure like the following: interface IControl string Id object Value class Label : IControl string Id string Value class Repeater : IControl string Id List<IControl> Value Now you'll see the strange part right away in the Repeater class with the Value property. I was hoping that having the Value type as object in the interface would allow me the flexibility to expand the controls as i go along. The compiler doesn't like this and for good reason i guess. Does anyone have any suggestions how to accomplish this? Note: Please don't go into suggesting things like use Spark View Engine for templating. There is a reason i'm creating extra work for myself.

• int.Parse of "8" fails. int.Parse always requires CultureInfo.InvariantCulture?

  We develop an established software which works fine on all known computers except one. The problem is to parse strings that begin with "8". It seems like "8" in the beginning of a string is a reserved character. Parsing: int.Parse("8") -> Exception message: Input string was not in a correct format. int.Parse("80") -> 0 int.Parse("88") -> 8 int.Parse("8100") -> 100 CurrentCulture: sv-SE CurrentUICulture: en-US The problem is solved using int.Parse("8", CultureInfo.InvariantCulture). However, it would be nice to know the source of the problem. Question: Why do we get this behaviour of "8" if we don't specify invariant culture?
