• Replacing XML reserved characters in SQL Server 2005

  I'm working on a system that takes relational data from a sql server DB and uses SSIS to produce an XML extract using sql server 2005's 'FOR XML PATH' command and a schema. The problem lies with replacing the XML reserved characters. 'FOR XML PATH' is only replacing <, , and &, not ' and ", so I need a way of replacing these myself. I've tried pre-processing the fields in the database to replace XML reserved characters with their entitised equivalents (e.g. & becomes &amp;), but once these fields are used to construct XML using FOR XML the leading & is replaced with &amp;, so I end up with &amp;amp; where I should have &amp;. What I've tried so far is altering the element's contents after the XML has been constructed using XQuery inside SQL server like so: DECLARE @data VARCHAR(MAX) SET @data = CONVERT(VARCHAR(MAX), [my xml column].query(' data(/root/node_i_want)') SELECT @data = [function to replace quotes etc](@data) SET [my xml column].modify('replace value of (/root/node_i_want)[1] with sql:variable("@data")') but I get the same problem. Essentially, is there something wrong I'm doing with the above, or a way to tell FOR XML to entitise other characters, or something like that? Basically anything short of having to write a program to change the XML after it has been assembled in large batches and saved to files!

• Jersey / ServletContext and resource loading on startup.

  Hello, I'm kind of new in web development with Java. I am developing a web service and I've chosen REST / Jersey for it. I want to init some stuff on startup of the service and to keep them all along the life of the service. First question : Is the constructor of the Jersey Servlet a good place to do that ? Basically, what I want to do is to load a config.ini file located in my WEB-INF directory. Following this help, I understand I need a ServletContext to load my file as a resource. However, it is not clear to me how to get this ServletContext in a Jersey Servlet, as it is not really an instance of a servlet, but rather a POJO with some annotations. I wanted to try this tip, but the attribute "context" is null in the constructor. I think that Jersey might populate it after the constructor. Right ? So how is the right way to do this ?   I am having trouble getting my filters/validators to work correctly on my form, so I want to create a Unit test to verify that the data I am submitting to my form is being filtered and validated correctly. Now it says it can't find another class. I include that one and try it again. Then it says it can't find another class, and another class, and so on. I have all of these dependencies on all these other Zend_Form classes. What should I do? How should I go about testing my Form to make sure my Validators and Filters are being attached correctly, and that it's doing what I expect it to do. Or am I thinking about this the wrong way?

• AVAudioPlayer making noise when playing multiple sounds at the same time

  I am having an issue where AVAudioPlayer is introducing noise into playback ONLY when I play multiple sound files at the same time. If I play them each individually, they all sound perfect. But, if I play sound clip B while sound clip A is still playing, the speakers start crackling like there is noise. I have tried both m4a files AND caf files and both make the same noise, so it has to be something with how I am implementing this method or a quirk with AVAudioPlayer.   Reference Iterating arrays in a batch file I have the following: for /f "tokens=1" %%Q in ('query termserver') do ( if not ERRORLEVEL ( echo Checking %%Q for /f "tokens=1" %%U in ('query user %UserID% /server:%%Q') do (echo %%Q) ) ) When running query termserver from the command line, the first two lines are: Known ------------------------- ...followed by the list of terminal servers. However, I do not want to include these as part of the query user command. Also, there are about 4 servers I do not wish to include. When I supply UserID with this code, the program is promptly exiting. I know it has something to do with the if statement. Is this not possible to nest flow control inside the for-loop? I had tried setting a variable to exactly the names of the servers I wanted to check, but the iteration would end on the first server: set TermServers=Server1.Server2.Server3.Server7.Server8.Server10 for /f "tokens=2 delims=.=" %%Q in ('set TermServers') do ( echo Checking %%Q for /f "tokens=1" %%U in ('query user %UserID% /server:%%Q') do (echo %%Q) ) I would prefer this second example over the first if nothing else for cleanliness. • C file read leaves garbage characters

  Hi. I'm trying to read the contents of a file into my program but I keep occasionally getting garbage characters at the end of the buffers. I haven't been using C a lot (rather I've been using C++) but I assume it has something to do with streams. I don't really know what to do though. I'm using MinGW. • Draw a column graph with no space between columns

  I am using the WPF toolkit, and am trying to render a graph that looks like a histogram. In particular, I want each column to be right up against each other column. There should be no gaps between columns. There are a number of components that you apply when creating a column graph. (See example XAML below). • How do I test OpenCL on GPU when logged in remotely on Mac?

  My OpenCL program can find the GPU device when I am logged in at the console, but not when I am logged in remotely with ssh. Further, if I run the program as root in the ssh session, the program can find the GPU. The computer is a Snow Leopard Mac with a GeForce 9400 GPU. If I run the program (see below) from the console or as root, the output is as follows (notice the "GeForce 9400" line): 2 devices found Device #0 name = GeForce 9400 Device #1 name = Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P8700 @ 2.53GHz but if it is just me, over ssh, there is no GeForce 9400 entry: 1 devices found Device #0 name = Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P8700 @ 2.53GHz I would like to test my code on the GPU without having to be root. Is that possible? • Passing char * into fopen with C.

  Hey there, I'm writing a program that passes data from a file into an array, but I'm having trouble with fopen (). It seems to work fine when I hardcode the file path into the parameters (eg fopen ("data/1.dat", "r");) but when I pass it as a pointer, it returns NULL. • Unusual request URL in ASP.NET health monitoring event

  I’m seeing a rather strange occurrence in the request information section of an ASP.NET health monitoring email I hope someone can shed some light on. This is a publicly facing website which runs on infrastructure at an Indian hosting provider. Health monitoring is notifying us of server errors via automated email but every now and then the requested URL appears as a totally different website. For example: Request information: Request URL: http://www.baidu.com/Default.aspx Request path: /Default.aspx User host address: 221.13.128.175 User: Is authenticated: False Authentication Type: Thread account name: NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE Obviously the site in question is not Baidu and obviously this attribute is not the referrer either; the “Request URL” value is the path which has generated the error. The IP address is located in Beijing (coincidental given the Baidu address?) and in this instance it looks like the SQL server backend was not accessible (I haven't included the entire error message for security's sake). What would cause the request URL attribute to be arbitrarily changed to that of another site? I’ve never seen this occur in a health monitoring event before. Thanks!

  I am new to Android, and I'm struggling to figure out exactly what tools are available to me. I am developing for android 2.0.1 for now, just because that is what my device runs. Specifically, I am writing an app that I would like to upload images to a picasa album. I am almost sure this is supported; for example, the built in (google?) photo viewer has a 'share' button with a picasa option, and even a small bit of sample code, including the snippet [borrowed code! apologies if this is against the rules..] temp.setComponent(new ComponentName ("com.google.android.apps.uploader", "com.google.android.apps.uploader.picasa.PicasaUploadActivity")); startActivityForResult(temp, PICASA_INTENT) which looks like exactly what I want. But I can find no documentation anywhere. I am in fact quite unclear how to use this type of resource. From within eclipse, do I need to include another project, com.google.android.apps.uploader? If so, how do I get it? How do I include it? Is there any working sample code provided for me to peer at?

  I am writing a webservice, that when called should build a C# project. I'm using the framework 2 reference, Microsoft.Buld.Engine and Microsoft.Build.Framework. If you look under the '<Import>' section .csproj file, by default it has: <Import Project="$(MSBuildToolsPath)\Microsoft.CSharp.targets" /> which I then changed to: <Import Project="$(MSBuildBinPath)\Microsoft.CSharp.targets" /> My code to build the csproj is: Engine buildEngine = new Engine(Path.Combine(Environment.GetEnvironmentVariable("SystemRoot"), @"Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727")); FileLogger logger = new FileLogger(); logger.Parameters = @"logfile=c:\temp\build.log"; buildEngine.RegisterLogger(logger); bool success = buildEngine.BuildProjectFile([Path_Of_Directory]+ "ProjectName.csproj"); buildEngine.UnregisterAllLoggers(); The success variable returns a false because the build faild. The task is looking for the path to the .NET Framework SDK at the location specified in the SDKInstallRootv2.0 value of the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft.NETFramework. You may be able to solve the problem by doing one of the following: 1.) Install the .NET Framework SDK. 2.) Manually set the above registry key to the correct location. All is well and good untill I actualy try to invoke methods on the new types.   Hello everybody, I'm new in Android development and I have the next question/problem. I'm playing around with the MediaPlayer class to reproduce some sounds/music. I am playing raw resources (res/raw) and it looks kind of easy. To play a raw resource, the MediaPlayer has to be initialized like this: MediaPlayer mp = MediaPlayer.create(appContext, R.raw.song); mp.start(); Until here there is no problem. The sound is played, and everything works fine. My problem appears when I want to add more options to my application. Specifically when I add the "Stop" button/option. Basically, what I want to do is...when I press "Stop", the music stops. And when I press "Start", the song/sound starts over. (pretty basic!) To stop the media player, you only have to call stop(). But to play the sound again, the media player has to be reseted and prepared. mp.reset(); mp.setDataSource(params); mp.prepare(); The problem is that the method setDataSource() only accepts as params a file path, Content Provider URI, streaming media URL path, or File Descriptor. So, since this method doesn't accept a resource identifier, I don't know how to set the data source in order to call prepare(). In addition, I don't understand why you can't use a Resouce identifier to set the data source, but you can use a resource identifier when initializing the MediaPlayer. I guess that I'm missing something. I wonder if I am mixing concepts, and the method stop() doesn't have to be called in the "Stop" button. Any help? Thanks in advanced!!!

• Coherent access to mainframe files from Win32 application and IBM RDZ/Eclipse?

  I have a suite of tools for processing IBM COBOL source code; these tools are built as Win32 applications and talk to Windows (including network) files using traditional Windows file system calls (open, close, read, write) and work just fine, thank you. I'd like to integrate these with Eclipse; we understand how to get Eclipse to do UI for us we think. The problem is that Eclipse/RDZ users access mainframe files through some IBM magic. In How does RDZ access mainframe files I tried to understand how Eclipse accessed files on a mainframe. Apparantly Eclipse/RDZ has a secret filesystem access backdoor not available to normal mortals. At issue is how our tools, reading some Windows-accessible file (local disk file, NFS to mainframe, ...) can associate such files with the files that Eclipse can access or is using? Ideally we'd like UI-integrated versions of our tools take an Eclipse file-name string for a mainframe file, pass it to our Windows application to process, have the Windows application open/read/process the file, and return results associated with that file to the Eclipse UI. Is there a canonical file name path that would be used with mainframe NFS that would be equivalent to the name or access object the Eclipse RDZ used to access the same file? Are all operations doable internally by Eclipse, doable by the mainframe NFS [for instance, can NFS read/update an element in a partitioned data set? Can Eclipse RDZ? Does it matter?] Is the mainframe file access available to custom Java code running under Eclipse RDZ (e.g., equivalents of open/close/read/write based on filename/path/something?) If so, can somebody steer me towards documentation describing the access methods? Anybody else already solve this problem or have a good suggestion?

• Can't get past "A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected..." error

  I'm doing my first ASP.NET MVC2 project and I can't get past the "A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected..." error when trying to submit a form. I've done this in MVC1 using the ValidateInputAttribute and I've read about the breaking change in .NET 4 that requires setting the request validation mode in the web.config. Basically I'm doing exactly what is outlined in this thread: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2019843/a-potentially-dangerous-request-form-value-in-mvc-2-asp-net-4-0. Nothing's working though so I must be missing something. • InstallUtil Publishing WMI Schema to 64 Bit Directory Instead of 32 Bit Directory

  This is similar to this question, but it doesn't look like a good solution was ever determined, so I'm opening a new one with clarified details. We wrote a .NET service, which among other things, publishes some of the class hierarchy using WMI. On a 64-Bit machine, we are running the 32-bit version of InstallUtil to install the service. It installs successfully, but when the service runs, we receive the following error message when publishing a WMI class using Instrumentation.Publish() DirectoryNotFoundException - (Could not find a part of the path 'C:\Windows\system32\WBEM\Framework\root\MyNamespace\MyService'.) However, this directory does exist in the C:\Windows\syswow64 directory. If we manually copy that directory structure to the system32 directory, then everything works. However, we are looking for automated solution, because we have this packaged up in an MSI which we distribute onto many servers. We have tried running the 64-Bit version of InstallUtil, to see if that would work, however... and this is the really weird part... it gives us an error on install that says Installing WMI Schema: Started An exception occurred during the Install phase. System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException: Could not find a part of the path 'C:\Windows\system32\WBEM\Framework\root\MyNamespace\MyService.mof'. It looks as if somehow, the WMI installer flipped around. Has anyone else experienced this, or know of a work around?
