  I'm trying to use the WCF Rest Starter Kit with the RightScale's Login API which seems fairly simple to use. Edit - Here's a blog entry I wrote on using Powershell to consume the API. • WPF Update Binding when Bound directly to DataContext w/ Converter

  Normally when you want a databound control to 'update,' you use the "PropertyChanged" event to signal to the interface that the data has changed behind the scenes. For instance, you could have a textblock that is bound to the datacontext with a property "DisplayText" <TextBlock Text="{Binding Path=DisplayText}"/> From here, if the DataContext raises the PropertyChanged event with PropertyName "DisplayText," then this textblock's text should update (assuming you didn't change the Mode of the binding). However, I have a more complicated binding that uses many properties off of the datacontext to determine the final look and feel of the control. To accomplish this, I bind directly to the datacontext and use a converter. In this case I am working with an image source. <Image Source="{Binding Converter={StaticResource ImageConverter}}"/> As you can see, I use a {Binding} with no path to bind directly to the datacontext, and I use an ImageConverter to select the image I'm looking for. But now I have no way (that I know of) to tell that binding to update. I tried raising the propertychanged event with "." as the propertyname, which did not work. Is this possible? Do I have to wrap up the converting logic into a property that the binding can attach to, or is there a way to tell the binding to refresh (without explicitly refreshing the binding)?   Hi, I am new to iphone development. I have created 5 buttons in the view. On clicking the buttons it navigates to the corresponding views. Are there any techniques that I could use to rewrite these functions so that the user can write code as displayed in the main function (i.e., leveraging compiler-deduction of argument types)?

  Hi all! I'm having trouble with the following code: User < AR acts_as_authentic belongs_to :owner, :polymorphic => true end Worker < AR has_one :user, :as => :owner accepts_nested_attributes_for :user end Employer < AR has_one :user, :as => :owner accepts_nested_attributes_for :user end I'd like to create registration forms based on user types, and to include authentication fields such as username and password. I currently do this: UserRegistrationController < AC #i.e. a new Employer def new @employer = Employer.new @employer.build_user end ... end I then include User fields with fields_for. All views render fine, but here's the catch: I cannot build a User, it tells me :password is a wrong method, so I guess the authentication logic was bypassed. What should I do? Am I doing it wrong altogether? Should I drop polymorphic associations in favor of Single Table Inheritance? Whatever I do, I have to make sure it plays nicely with Authlogic.

• Playing online video on iphone web, the iphone seems to cache the reference movie

  We are working on an online mobile video app, and are trying to play a reference movie on an iphone from the iphone browser. The problem is, the movie plays the first time, but when we try to play a different movie the second time, it doesnt. Quicktime gives a general error message sayin "Cannot Play Movie". More precisely this is what we are trying to do: Connect with an iPhone to a webserver that serves a reference movie (generated with quicktime pro). The ref movie automatically gets downloaded to the iphone by quicktime. Quicktime then chooses one of the 3 references in the reference movie, based on the connection speed, and tries to download the designated movie via a relative path. A servlet gets called and forwards the relative path to the right movie. This all works the first time. However the second time when we want download different movies, we get the quicktime error. Test case: Open reference movie 1 Movie plays in Quicktime Open reference movie 2 ERROR: Quicktime gives an error - Cannot Play Movie Shut down Iphone Turn Iphone on again Open reference movie 2 Iphone plays movie Open movie ERROR: Quicktime gives an error - Cannot Play Movie Did anyone encounter similar issues with quicktime and the use of reference movies and is there something we can do to work around that?

• Use multiple WSGI mount points in Apache with an Nginx reverse proxy

  I am trying to set up multiple virtual hosts on the same server with Nginx and Apache and have run into a curious configuration issue. I have nginx is configured with a generic upstream to apache. upstream backend { server 1.1.1.1:8080; } I'm trying to set up multiple subdomains in nginx that hit different mountpoints in apache. Each would act like the following examples. server { listen 80; server_name foo.yoursite.com; location / { proxy_pass http://backend/bar/; include /etc/nginx/proxy.conf; } ... } server { listen 80; server_name delta.yoursite.com; location / { proxy_pass http://backend/gamma/; include /etc/nginx/proxy.conf; } ... } These mountpoints are pointed at django projects, however each of the url entries are coming back prepended with the apache mountpoint path. So, if I called the django url entry for foo.yoursite.com/wiki/biz/, django appears to be returning foo.yoursite.com/bar/wiki/biz/. Similarly, if I call for the url entry for delta.yoursite.com/wiki/biz/, I get delta.yoursite.com/gamma/wiki/biz/. Is there any way get rid of the prefix being returned on the url entries by django and apache?

• Right way to dispose Image/Bitmap and PictureBox

  I am trying to develop a Windows Mobile 6 (in WF/C#) application. There is only one form and on the form there is only a PictureBox object. On it I draw all desired controls or whatever I want. There are two things I am doing. Drawing custom shapes and loading bitmaps from .png files. The next line locks the file when loading (which is an undesired scenario): Bitmap bmp = new Bitmap("file.png"); So I am using another way to load bitmap. public static Bitmap LoadBitmap(string path) { using (Bitmap original = new Bitmap(path)) { return new Bitmap(original); } } This is I guess much slower, but I don't know any better way to load an image, while quickly releasing the file lock. Now, when drawing an image there is method that I use: public void Draw() { Bitmap bmp = new Bitmap(240,320); Graphics g = Graphics.FromImage(bmp); // draw something with Graphics here. g.Clear(Color.Black); g.DrawImage(Images.CloseIcon, 16, 48); g.DrawImage(Images.RefreshIcon, 46, 48); g.FillRectangle(new SolidBrush(Color.Black), 0, 100, 240, 103); pictureBox.Image = bmp; } This however seems to be some kind of a memory leak. And if I keep doing it for too long, the application eventually crashes. Therefor, I have X questions: 1.) What is the better way for loading bitmaps from files without locking the file? 2.) What objects needs to be manually disposed in the Draw() function (and in which order) so there's no memory leak and no ObjectDisposedException throwing? 3.) If pictureBox.Image is set to bmp, like in the last line of the code, would pictureBox.Image.Dispose() dispose only resources related to maintaining the pictureBox.Image or the underlying Bitmap set to it?

• Named pipe blocking with user nobody

  I have 2 short scripts. The first, an awk script, processes a large file and prints to a named pipe 'myfifo.dat'. The second, a Perl script, runs a LOAD DATA LOCAL INFILE 'myfifo.dat'... command. Both of these scripts work when run locally like so: lee.awk big.file & lee.pl However, when I call these scripts from a PHP webpage, the named pipe blocks: $awk="/path/to/lee.awk {$_FILES['uploadfile']['tmp_name']} &"; $sql="/path/to/lee.pl"; if(!exec($awk,$return,$err)) throw new ZException(print_r($err,true)); //blocks here if(!exec($sql,$return,$err)) throw new ZException(print_r($err,true)); If I modify the awk and Perl scripts so that they write and read to a normal file, everything works fine from PHP. The permissions on the fifo and the normal file are 666 (for testing purposes). These operations run much more quickly through a named pipe, so I'd prefer to use one. Any ideas how to unblock it? ps. • Administrator's shortcut to batch file with double quoted parameters

  Take an excruciatingly simple batch file: echo hi pause Save that as test.bat. Now, make a shortcut to test.bat. The shortcut runs the batch file, which prints "hi" and then waits for a keypress as expected. Now, add some argument to the target of the shortcut. Now you have a shortcut to: %path%\test.bat some args The shortcut runs the batch file as before. Now, run the shortcut as administrator. (This is on Windows 7 by the way.) You can use either right-click - Run as Administrator, or go to the shortcut's properties and check the box in the advanced section. Tell UAC that it's okay and once again the shortcut runs the batch file as expected. Now, change the arguments in the target of the shortcut to add double quotes: %path%\test.bat "some args" Now try the shortcut as administrator. It doesn't work this time! A command window pops up and and disappears too fast to see any error. I tried adding test.log 2&1 to the shortcut, but no log is created in this case. Try running the same shortcut (with the double quotes) but not as Administrator. It runs the batch file fine. So, it seems the behavior is not because of the double quoted parameters, and it's not because it's run as Administrator. It's some weird combination of the two. I also tried running the same command from an administrator's command window. This ran the batch file as expected without error. Running the shortcut from the command window spawned a new command window which flashed and went away. So apparently the issue is caused by a combination of administrator, the shortcut, and the double quotes. I'm totally stumped, does anyone have any idea what's going on?

• How to publish an ASP.NET MVC website

  Hello -- I've a site that I'd like to publish to a co-located live server. I'm finding this simple task quite hard. My problems begin with the Web Deploy tool (1.1) giving me a 401 Unauthorized as the adminstrator because port :8172 comes up in the errors and this port is blocked - but the documentation says "The default ListenURL is http://+:80/MsDeployAgentService"! I'm loathe to open another port and I've little patience these days so I thought bu66er it, I'll create a Web Deploy package and import it into IIS on the server over RDP. I notice first that Visual Studio doesn't use a dialog box to gather settings, or use my Publish profiles but seems to use a tab in the project properties, although I think these are ignored when importing the package anyway? I'm now sitting in the import wizard with Application Path and Connection String. I've cleared the conn string as I think this is for some ASP stuff I don't use but when I enter nothing in the Application Path, the wizard barks at me saying that basically I'm a weirdo because most people publish to folders beneath the root site. Now, I want my site to be site.com/Home/About and not site.com/subfolder/Home/About and I think being an MVC routed site that a subfolder will introduce other headaches. Should I go ahead and use the root? Finally, I also want to publish a web service to www.site.com/services/soap which I think IIS can handle. While typing this question, Amazon have delivered my IIS 7 Resource Kit, and I've been scouring the internet but actually I'm getting more confused. The web service is running on Glassfish and is soap 1.1, I've tried using all the packaged wcf bindings but have not been able to get them to work. I started down the path of using a MessageInspector, and wrote one but then realized there must be a better way, surely WCF provides some way to insert saml 2.0 assertions. I've made the most progress writing a custom binding - i've been able to get the timestamp and signature nodes in the soap header, but cannot for the life of me figure out the saml assertion. • OpenGL-ES: Change (multiply) color when using color arrays?

  Following the ideas in OpenGL ES iPhone - drawing anti aliased lines, I am trying to draw stroked anti-aliased lines and I am successful so far. After line is draw by the finger, I wish to fade the path, that is I need to change the opacity (color) of the entire path. I have computed a large array of vertex positions, vertex colors, texture coordinates, and indices and then I give these to opengl but I would like reduce the opacity of all the drawn triangles without having to change each of the color coordinates. Normally I would use glColor4f(r,g,b,a) before calling drawElements, but it has no effect due to the color array. I am working on Android, but I believe it shouldn't make the big difference, as long as it is OpenGL-ES 1.1 (or 1.0). • Mercurial Remote Subrepos

  I'm trying to set up my Mercurial repository system to work with multiple subrepos. I've basically followed these instructions to set up the client repo with Mercurial client v1.5 and I'm using HgWebDir to host my multiple projects. I have an HgWebDir with the following structure: http://myserver/hg fooproj mylib where mylib is some collection of common template library to be consumed by fooproj. The structure of fooproj looks like this: fooproj doc/ src/ .hgignore .hgsub .hgsubstate And .hgsub looks like: src/mylib = http://myserver/hg/mylib This should work, per my interpretation of the documentation: The first 'nested' is the path in our working dir, and the second is a URL or path to pull from. So, let's say I pull down fooproj to my home folder with: ~$ hg clone http://myserver/hg/fooproj foo Which pulls down the directory structure properly and adds the folder ~/foo/src/mylib which is a local Mercurial repository. This is where the problems begin: the mylib folder is empty aside from the items in .hg. With 2 seconds of investigation, one can see the src/mylib/.hg/hgrc is: [paths] default = http://myserver/hg/fooproj/src/mylib which is completely wrong (attempting a pull of that repo will give a 404 because, well, that URL doesn't make any sense). Logically, the default value should be what I specified in .hgsub or it would get the files from the repository in some way. None of the Mercurial commands return error codes (aside from a pull from within src/mylib), so it clearly believes that it is behaving properly (and just might be), although this does not seem logical at all. What am I doing wrong?

  Hello! I'm developing a project that produces SVG files with custom embed fonts. SVG font definition I compose as SVG font tag with help of http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fontface/generator or Batik SVG Toolkit. The resulted SVG file I try to open in following applications: Adobe Illustrator CS4 - text has default font and message noticed about font not found in system CorelDRAW X5 - text has default font and any messages don't noticed Batik SVG Browser (Squiggle) - renders text correctly The problem is all modern typographies use CorelDRAW and Abode Illustrator for print vector graphic and them render not correctly SVG. Solution As for me, I see follow solutions: Save the text with custom font as SVG path. This will work but, I can't find any solution that can convert text + TTF to SVG path data; Use other vector format, f.e. AI, EPS or CDR. This solution is difficult for me, because I use SVG paths as part of input data; Recommend our users to use Batik SVG Browser (Squiggle) or any other application which are based on Batik SVG Toolkit library. Batik SVG Toolkit requires Java runtime :( If anyone know some knowledge to open SVG embed fonts in Adobe Illustrator or CorelDRAW please share them. I would be grateful for any help. I followed these steps: Made the model class : Person with one property for now - @property (readwrite, assign) int salary; In the application delegate class I initialized a mutable array : personArray with certain objects like this: Person *person1 = [[Person alloc] init]; person1.salary = 5000; Person *person2 = [[Person alloc] init]; person2.salary = 15000; Person *person3 = [[Person alloc] init]; person3.salary = 7000; Person *person4 = [[Person alloc] init]; person4.salary = 9000; Person *person5 = [[Person alloc] init]; person5.salary = 11000; personArray= [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithObjects:person1, person2, person3, person4, person5,nil]; In IB I dropped a NSArrayController object, set its mode as Class - Person, added key salary in attribute pane. Then in bindings pane, binded contents array to ApplicationDelegate class with model key path set to self.personArray. Dropped a NSTextField on window. Binded its value to ArrayController object. Assigned controller key as - arrangedObjects. Assigned Model key path to @avg.salary When I executed the application I found no value being displayed in the text field. The best solution that I my self have come a cross (don't know if this is a bad way?) is to unset($this -> layout); from function post_index()...
