• Cycle through windows in KDE 4 taskbar by shortcut?

  Is there a way to cycle through the windows in the KDE 4 taskbar with a shortcut? I want to have a switch to next window function on a mouse button. Therefore Alt+Tab is not suitable because it uses a stack for the windows. This means if hitting Alt+Tab, releasing the Alt key and pressing Alt+Tab again will bring up the window I had before pressing the keys the first time. Maybe there is a solution using DBus. But I don't know how to use this.

• RegisterStartupScript doesn't appear to be working on page postback within update panel

  OK - so am working on a system that uses a custom datepicker control (I know there are other ones out there.. but for consistency would like to understand why my current issue is happening and fix it). My issue is that this all works fine when I load the page. But if I select something from a dropdownlist causing a page postback - when I click into my date fields they stop working. As in I should be able to click into the textbox and a nice calendar control appears. But after postback there is no nice calendar control appearing! It's currently all wrapped (in the hosting page) inside an update panel. So I comment out the update panel stuff and the dates are working after page postback. So it appears to be something related to that update panel. Any suggestions please? Thanks!!

• NSTableView selection & highlights

  I have a NSTableView as a very central part of my Application and want it to integrate more with the rest of it. It has only one column (it's a list) and I draw all Cells (normal NSTextFieldCells) myself. The first problem is the highlighting. I draw the highlight myself and want to get rid of the blue background. I now fill the whole cell with the original background color to hide the blue background, but this looks bad when dragging the cell around. I tried overriding highlight:withFrame:inView: and highlightColorWithFrame:inView: of NSCell but nothing happened. How can I disable automatic highlighting? I also want all rows/cells to be deselected when I click somewhere outside my NSTableView. Since the background / highlight of the selected cell turns gray there must be an event for this, but I can't find it. I let my cells expand on a double click and may need to undo this. So getting rid of the gray highlight is not enough. EDIT: I add a subview to the NSTableView when a cell gets double clicked and then resignFirstResponder of the NSTableView gets called. I tried this: - (BOOL)resignFirstResponder { if (![[self subviews] containsObject:[[self window] firstResponder]]) { [self deselectAll:self]; ... } return YES; } Besides that it's not working I would need to implement this method for all objects in the view hierarchy. Is there an other solution to find out when the first responder leaves a certain view hierarchy?

• jquery live and callbacks via wcf services

  Hi all, I am writing a web app with asp.net, c# and jquery. Most of the time I'm writing dynamic html to the browser and using different web services to get the content needed. If I take them out, the request passes successfully. I have no idea who inserted these %22, but they are causing havoc here! Guys, do you perhaps have a clue?

• How can I prevent a page to jump to top position after failed validation?

  I have a simple aspx page with a few TextBoxes and a submit button. Some fields are required and below the button is a ValidationSummary. The complete form is larger than screen height so one has to scroll down to reach the submit button. If I don't fill all required fields and click on submit validation fails as expected and the validation summary displays some info messages below the button. Validation happens on the client and no postback occurs. So this all works as wished. But disturbing is that the page moves ("jumps") to top position when I click on the submit button. To see the validation summary one has to move down the page again. I've tried to set the ShowSummary property to false (which doesn't make much sense): The validation still works (no postback) but in this case the page does not move to top position. So the problem seems to depend on rendering the validation texts. Is there a way to prevent this page jump? Thank you in advance!

• Javascript Function for related select elements onSubmit

  I am trying to create (4) Select elements within a form element. Each select element has a different number of options. So if a user click one option on Select #1 and then click another option on Select #2, after hitting submit they will be taken to www.blah.com/option1/option2 page which will display the filtered results. Or they can chose an option from all 4 select menus and be taken to option1/option2/option3/option4 page. The categories are all related .Select #1 is a category, Select #2 is a subcategory of 1, Select #3 is a subcategory of #2 and Select #4 is a subcategory of #3. A great example would be on (LINK) http://www.safavieh.com/rugs (LINK) except only four Select elements. I would also like to add the "Reset" button next to "Submit." I know I need to construct a function in my header and use onSubmit attribute within the form but other than that I am unsure of what's involved so I'm hoping someone could point me in the right direction. • How can I copy the output from a remote command into the local clipboard?

  I use iTerm2 as my terminal client in Mac OS X. On the local system I can use pbcopy and pbpaste to transfer data between the system clipboard and the terminal, but of course this doesn't work when you're ssh'ed to another machine. Is there some way which I can take the result of a command and copy it to the clipboard automatically? Perhaps an applescript to grab the text on the iTerm windows, then get the next to last line? For instance, if I wanted to copy the current working directory: I run pwd, then use the mouse to select the text, and then press command + c. Is there any better / faster / automatic way of doing this? I'm not looking for a bulletproof solution that would work for every command (eg: might not work when there is a huge scrollback) - I'm just looking for something to make this task that I do quite often a little less tedious. Update I'm looking into using screen to do this, but I'm still not sure if it is possible.

I want to clear all content so the placeholder would be showed. • Determining when stringByEvaluatingJavaScriptFromString has finished

  I have a UIWebView which loads up an HTML page. This page has two buttons on it, say Exit and Submit. I don't want users to be able to click the Exit button, so once the page has finished loading (ie. webViewDidFinishLoad is called), I use stringByEvaluatingJavaScriptFromString to remove one of these buttons, by manipulating the HTML. I also disable user interaction on the UIWebView on webViewDidStartLoad, and enable it again on webViewDidFinishLoad. The problem I am finding is that stringByEvaluatingJavaScriptFromString takes a second or two to complete, and it seems to be done in it's own thread. So what is happening is that webViewDidFinishLoad is called, user interaction is enabled on the UIWebView, and if the user is quick, they can click the Exit button before stringByEvaluatingJavaScriptFromString has finished. As stringByEvaluatingJavaScriptFromString seems to be on it's own thread with no way to know when it's finished (it doesnt call webViewDidFinishLoad), the only way to completely prevent users from tapping the Exit button that I can see is to only enable user interaction on the UIWebView after some delay, which is unreliable (how can I really know how long to delay for?). Am I correct in that stringByEvaluatingJavaScriptFromString is done on it's on thread, and I have no way of being able to tell when it's finished? Any other suggestions for how to get around this problem? EDIT: In short, what I want to know is if it is possible to disable a UIWebView while stringByEvaluatingJavaScriptFromString is executing, and re-enable the UIWebView when the javascript is finished. EDIT 2: There's an article here which seems to imply you can somehow poll the JS engine to see when it's finished, but I can't find any other references saying the same thing: http://drnicwilliams.com/2008/11/10/to-webkit-or-not-to-webkit-within-your-iphone-app/ EDIT 3 Based on the answer from Brad Smith, it seems that I actually need to know when the UIWebView has finished loading itself after the javascript has executed. • How to keep confirmation messages after POST while doing a post-submit redirect?

  Hello, I'm looking for advise on how to share certain bits of data (i.e. post-submit confirmation messages) between individual requests in a web application. Let me explain: Current approach: user submits an add/edit form for a resource if there were no errors, user is shown a confirmation with links to: submit a new resource (for "add" form) view the submitted/edited resource view all resources (one step above in hierarchy) user then has to click on one of the three links to proceed (i.e. to the page "above") Progmatically, the form and its confirmation page are one set of classes. The page above that is another. They can technically share code, but at the moment they are both independent during processing of individual requests. We would like to amend the above as follows: user submits an add/edit form for a resource if there were no errors, the user is redirected to the page with all resources (one step above in hierarchy) with one or more confirmation messages displayed at the top of the page (i.e. success message, to whom was the request assigned, etc) This will: save users one click (they have to go through a lot of these add/edit forms) the post-submit redirect will address common problems with browser refresh / back-buttons What approach would you recommend for sharing data needed for the confirmation messages between the two requests, please? I'm not sure if it helps, it's a PHP application backed by a RESTful API, but I think that this is a language-agnostic question. A few simple solutions that come to mind are to share the data via cookies or in the session, this however breaks statelessness and would pose a significant problem for users who work in several tabs (the data could clash together). Passing the data as GET parameters is not suitable as we are talking about several messages which are dynamic (e.g. changing actors, dates). Thanks, M.

• IKImageView, Buttons work intermittently in 10.5 but ok in 10.6

  Hi all, In IB,I have connected some buttons to a IKImageView. Using its received Action 'ZoomIn:', 'ZoomOut:','ZoomImageToActualSize:' When I build for 10.6 I have no issues these work as expected. But in 10.5 (ppc), they sometimes work as expected and sometimes do not. I have even tried it programatically. But I get the same results. It is intermittent with each build after I have made some small change in IB that I need. But not changes that should affect how the view acts. The only buttons that seem to work through out are 'ZoomImageToFit' and the rotate ones. When the do not work as expected, I see no change to the current image in the view, but when my app (/s, I have had this issue before in different apps) changes the image The view reflects the last request from a button. So for example when it does not work. An image is displayed, I click the 'ZoomImageToActualSize:' button, nothing happens. I load a new image and it is displayed at Actual size. Example when it does work. An image is displayed, I click the 'ZoomImageToActualSize:' button, It is displayed at Actual size. By the way, I know I can reset the view default , before I load a new image. Also if I run the 10.5 app in 10.6, it works ok, but as above I get intermittent results with the same build on multible 10.5 machines. Does anyone know what is going on, is this a known bug? • How do I know which Object I clicked?

  Here's the deal: I'm working on a personal portfolio in AS3 and I've run into a problem which I can't seem to find a logical answer to. I want everything (well, most of it) to be editable with an XML file, including my menu. My menu is just a Sprite with some text on it and a Tweener-tween, no big deal. But, I forgot to think of a way how I can determine which menu-item I have clicked. This is in my Main.as private function xmlLoaded(e:Event):void { xml = e.target.xml; menu = new Menu(xml); menu.x = 0; menu.y = stage.stageHeight / 2 - menu.height / 2; addChild(menu); } In Menu.as public function Menu(xml:XML) { for each (var eachMenuItem:XML in xml.menu.item) { menuItem = new MenuItem(eachMenuItem); menuItem.y += yPos; addChild(menuItem); yPos += menuItem.height + 3; } } and in my MenuItem.as, everything works - I have a fancy tween when I hover over it, but when I click a menu-item, I want something to appear ofcourse. How do I know which one I clicked? I've tried with pushing everything in an array, but that didn't work out well (or maybe I'm doing it wrong). Also tried a global counter, but that's not working either because the value will always be amount of items in my XML file. Also tried e.currentTarget in my click-function, but when I trace that, all of them are "Object Sprite".. I need something so I can give each a unique "name"? Thanks in advance!

• Using terminal vs KDE in linux?

  Im used to using nautilus within centos but have recently just got a VPS and quickly realising that using a KDE is unacceptable in this environment. Although I do find it so much quicker doing things like folder permissions in KDE rather than typing it all out in the terminal? Everyone I speak to says, use the terminal and I should learn this way as opposed to using the KDE, but theres certain things I just dont get How is it possible to make quick changes to scripts and viewing them in a browser etc , without a mouse or using KDE? and only using a terminal?? I am wondering how to develop websites just using the terminal??? How can it be quicker to type out/view permissions etc in the terminal when its instant and just a few clicks in the KDE? Any thoughts are much appreciated. I would love to understand the benefits but just cant seem to see them right now. Cheers Ke.

  I have monitors of my two machines side by side and I use them both with a single keyboard/mouse using Synergy+ (now hosted at Google Code) which works great. But is it possible to use the monitor of my secondary machine as the secondary monitor of my primary? I am on XP so from what I understand I cannot just rdc from secondary to this primary. In any case that would be a different session altogether and I would prefer to be able to extend my desktop over the two monitors. Any solutions or suggestions? Thanks in advance.

• jQuery removing elements from DOM put still reporting as present

  Hi, I have an address finder system whereby a user enters a postcode, if postcode is validated then an address list is returned and displayed, they then select an address line, the list dissappears and then the address line is split further into some form inputs. The issue i am facing is when they have been through the above process then cleared the postcode form field, hit the find address button and the address list re-appears. Event though the list and parent tr have been removed from the DOM it is still reporting it is present as length 1? • Wait until image loads before performing function

  I'm trying to create a simple portfolio page. I have a list of thumbs and an image. When you click on a thumb, the image will change. When a thumbnail is clicked, I'd like to have the image fade out, wait until the image is loaded, then fade back in. The problem I have right now is that some of the images are pretty big, so it fades out, then fades back in immediately, sometimes while the image is still loading. I'd like to avoid using setTimeout, since sometimes an image will load faster or slower than the time I set. • Why are applications slowing down on the computer's second monitor?

  Here's an interesting one. Problem I have a user on Windows XP who is running a web application inside IE8. She has two monitors plugged in via DVI cables. When she is working the the browser on her primary monitor, everything is fine, but when she drags the window over to the second monitor, the web applications functionality grinds to a halt. It's not just web apps either - many applications exhibit the problem. What I've tried Switching the two monitors in the OS. It's obviously not the monitor's fault. Confirmed that it's the app slowing down, and not the graphical rendering. The application in question actually locks up. The mouse is unaffected, and I can drag other windows on top of the problematic application. Any ideas?

• Snow Leopard Hangs at Login Window

  I've had an issue for the past few months, but I rarely restart so it hasn't caused too much trouble. Basically, when I start up my Mac (iMac10,1 - 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, OS X 10.6.3) everything proceeds as usual until I reach the login window. The login window displays normally, but keyboard and mouse input seem to be ignored. This condition persists for around 5 minutes at which time everything goes back to normal. While the login window is frozen my second monitor appears entirely blue, the second monitor receives a background as soon as the login window becomes responsive. If I startup while holding SHIFT the problem still occurs, but the freeze is much shorter. Looking through my logs I see no activity during the time that the login window is frozen. I've attempted to repair disk permissions, and gone through every possible maintenance option in Cocktail.

• How can I remove LibUSB on Windows 7?

  I've installed LibUSB, a software that modifies your USB driver so that programs can access it easily. I didn't know that in Windows 7 you have to run it in compatibility mode for Windows XP, so now my Windows 7 can't access any USB port (including keyboard and mouse). Now I can't access my computer at all, and I don't have any PS2 connection in my computer. I tried to run it in Safe Mode but it didn't change anything. I tried to run a system restore from before the installation of LibUSB, but all the restore points give me an error: "The instruction at 0x73888f18 referenced memory at 0x00000004. The memory could not be read." I also tried to run Hiren's Boot CD and remove all the files associated with LibUSB, but that didn't change anything. So how can I remove LibUSB and access my computer again without formatting my hard drive? (I have important things on it)

• windows 2000 freezing during large disk write

  We have a windows 2000 sp4 server which freezes up for about 1 minutes while its web-app does a ~500mb write operation. I can see the webapp start to do I/O activity (through process explorer) then the RDP session becomes unresponsive, you can click on windows and buttons but nothing happens. When the disk write finally finishes the session 'catches up' on all the mouse clicks you did during the freeze in a mad flurry of window activity and the server returns to normal. During the freeze the web-app stops as well. The same behaviour happens on the console of the server. (so I know its not a network thing) Nothing appears in the Event logs. Its like nothing happened. I have upgraded all the HP hardware drivers to the latest proliant support pack. And also run a HP hardware diagnostics which found nothing wrong. What would cause a disk write to lock the rest of the OS?

• Problem: How to display a Wordpress RSS feed in a browser that doesn't have a built in RSS reader?

  If I can, i'd rather not use a service like FeedBurner. My setup: I've setup a RSS feed link on a self-hosted Wordpress website, clicking the RSS link in Safari shows the feed - because Safari has a built in RSS reader. Great. Unfortunately clicking the same RSS link in Chrome displays the raw XML feed. I know why this happens - Chrome doesn't have a built in RSS reader. I also assume this will be the same in older versions of Internet Explorer. Possible solution? I've noticed http://www.bbc.co.uk/news has a nice solution: Click the RSS feed (top tight of the page) in a RSS enabled browser (Safari) and it uses the built in RSS reader to display the RSS feed. Click the same RSS feed link in Chrome (Chrome has no built in RSS reader) it displays the RSS feed using what looks like a custom page. Is there a way to check if a browser has a built in RSS reader? How would I provide alternative content (like the BBC site) to a browser that doesn't have a RSS reader installed? • Browser freezes when try to call a JS function along with submission of a form.

Right now when I click the "Finish" button, facebook permissions dialogue is initiated but before I am prompted for the actual permission submission window, the browser freezes. Just like I have pressed Esc during the process. In fact status bar of the browser says "Stopped". Any help is highly appreciated.
