  • Looping Through Database Query

    - by DrakeNET
    I am creating a very simple script. The purpose of the script is to pull a question from the database and display all answers associated with that particular question. We are dealing with two tables here and there is a foreign key from the question database to the answer database so answers are associated with questions. Hope that is enough explanation. Here is my code. I was wondering if this is the most efficient way to complete this or is there an easier way? <html> <head> <title>Advise Me</title> <head> <body> <h1>Today's Question</h1> <?php //Establish connection to database require_once('config.php'); require_once('open_connection.php'); //Pull the "active" question from the database $todays_question = mysql_query("SELECT name, question FROM approvedQuestions WHERE status = active") or die(mysql_error()); //Variable to hold $todays_question aQID $questionID = mysql_query("SELECT commentID FROM approvedQuestions WHERE status = active") or die(mysql_error()); //Print today's question echo $todays_question; //Print comments associated with today's question $sql = "SELECT commentID FROM approvedQuestions WHERE status = active"; $result_set = mysql_query($sql); $result_num = mysql_numrows($result_set); for ($a = 0; $a < $result_num; $a++) { echo $sql; } ?> </body> </html>

  • Does Doctrine 1.2 support importing indexes with Doctrine_Core::generateModelsFromDb function?

    - by Coagulant
    Does Doctrine 1.2 support importing indexes with Doctrine_Core::generateModelsFromDb() function? I need to make a migration between 2 database connections, one of them having unique index on 2 fields and one doesn't. And my migration is empty. It looks like Doctrine doesn't support indexes when importing from databae, other than those tied to relationship foreign keys. $changes = Doctrine_Core::generateMigrationsFromDiff($migrationsPath, array('doctrineOld'), array('doctrine'));

  • MULTIPLE CRITERIA TABLE JOIN

    - by user1447203
    I have a table listing clothing items (shirt, trousers, etc) named . Each item is identified with a unique CLOTHING.CLOTHING_ID. So a blue shirt is 01, a flowery shirt is 12 and jeans are 07 say. I have a second table identifying outfits with a column for shirts, for trousers, shoes etc. For example Outfit 1: shirt 01, trousers 07 (i.e. blue shirt with jeans) Outfit 2: shirt 12, trousers 07 (so flowery shirt with jeans). This table is named and each outfit is unique with OUTFIT_LIST.OUTFIT_ID. I want to produce a select statement that will list each outfit's contents, i.e. find the clothing specified in Outfit 1. Any help would be very much appreciated, and apologies in advance if I am missing a very simple solution. I have been playing with JOINS of all descriptions and CONCATS and so on with now luck - I am very new to this. Thanks.

    - by elo
    I need to know where did i do wrong in this sql statement. I try to find solution in previous threads with similar problem but none can solve my problem. so i think maybe my statement is actually wrong. update table1 b left join table2 m on b.ICNO=m.ICNO set b.SalMoveMth = '01' where m.Status!='6' and (DATE_FORMAT(startDateSand,'%m')='10' or DATE_FORMAT(startDateSand,'%m')='11' or DATE_FORMAT(startDateSand,'%m')='12') and ((select SalMoveMth from table1 where ICNO=table2.ICNO order by SalMoveMthStDt desc limit 1)!='10'). Thank You.

  • Is it expensive to hold on to PreparedStatements? (Java & JDBC)

    - by sbook
    I'm trying to figure out if it's efficient for me to cache all of my statements when I create my database connection or if I should only create those that are most used and create the others if/when they're needed.. It seems foolish to create all of the statements in all of the client threads. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

  • select distinct over specific columns

    - by Midhat
    A query in a system I maintain returns QID AID DATA 1 2 x 1 2 y 5 6 t As per a new requirement, I do not want the (QID, AID)=(1,2) pair to be repeated. We also dont care what value is selected from "data" column. either x or y will do. What I have done is to enclose the original query like this SELECT * FROM (<original query text>) Results group by QID,AID Is there a better way to go about this? The original query uses multiple joins and unions and what not, So I would prefer not to touch it unless its absolutely necesary

  • How to find intersect rows when condition depend on some columns in one table

    - by user3695637
    Table subscribe subscriber | subscribeto (columns) 1 | 5 1 | 6 1 | 7 1 | 8 1 | 9 1 | 10 2 | 5 2 | 6 2 | 7 There are two users that have id 1 and 2. They subscribe to various user and I inserted these data to table subscribe. Column subscriber indicates who is subscriber and column subscribeto indicates who they've subscribe to. From the above table can conclude that; user id=1 subscribed to 6 users user id=2 subscribed to 3 users I want to find manual of subscription (like Facebook is manual friends) user 1 subscribe to user 5,6,7,8,9,10 user 2 subscribe to user 5,6,7 So, Manual subscription of user 1 and 2 are: 5,6,7 And I'm trying to create SQL statement.. I give you user table for my SQL statement and I think we can use only subscribe table but I can't figure out. Table user userid (columns) 1 2 3 ... ... SQL "select * from user where (select count( 1 ) from subscribe where subscriber = '1' and subscribeto = user.userid) and (select count( 1 ) from subscribe where subscriber = '2' and subscribeto = user.userid);" This SQL can work correctly, but it very slow for thousands of columns. Please provide better SQL for me, Thanks.

  • Can I do this in only one query ?

    - by Paté
    Merry christmas everyone, I Know my way around SQL but I'm having a hard time figuring this one out. First here are my tables (examples) User id name friend from //userid to //userid If user 1 is friend with user 10 then you a row with 1,10. User 1 cannot be friend with user 10 if user 10 is not friend with user 1 so you have 1,10 10,1 It may look weird but I need those two rows per relations. Now I'm trying to make a query to select the users that have the most mutual friend with a given user. For example User 1 is friend with user 10,9 and 7 and user 8 is friend with 10,9 and 7 too ,I want to suggest user 1 to invite him (like facebook). I want to get like the 10 first people with the most mutual friend. The output would be like User,NumOfMutualFriends I dont know if that can be done in a single query ? Thanks in advance for any help.

  • why does InnoDB keep on growing without for every update?

    - by Akash Kava
    I have a table which consists of heavy blobs, and I wanted to conduct some tests on it. I know deleted space is not reclaimed by innodb, so I decided to reuse existing records by updating its own values instead of createing new records. But I noticed, whether I delete and insert a new entry, or I do UPDATE on existing ROW, InnoDB keeps on growing. Assuming I have 100 Rows, each Storing 500KB of information, My InnoDB size is 10MB, now when I call UPDATE on all rows (no insert/ no delete), the innodb grows by ~8MB for every run I do. All I am doing is I am storing exactly 500KB of data in each row, with little modification, and size of blob is fixed. What can I do to prevent this? I know about optimize table, but I cant do it because on regular usage, the table is going to be 60-100GB big, and running optimize will just stall entire server.

  • What sort of schema can I use to accommodate manual date based data entries?

    - by meder
    I have an admin where users from multiple properties can enter in monthly statistics for twitter/facebook followers. We do not have access to the real data/db so this is why a manual entry. The form looks like this: Type ( radio, select **one** only ): - Twitter - Facebook Followers/Fans ( textfield ): Property (dropdown): Hotel A, Hotel B Date Start: mm/dd/yyyy (textfield) Date End: mm/dd/yyyy (textfield) Question 1.1: Since I am only keeping track of month per month, the date start/end fields which I have already created might be too specific. Would it be a better idea just to have a start month/year and and month/year if that's the only thing I care about? Question 1.2: What schema could I use for month to month statistics if I were to change the date start and end textfields to start month/year and end month/year dropdowns?

  • displaying search results with two or more queries

    - by fusion
    in my search form, if the user types 'good', it displays all the results which contain the keyword 'good'. however if the user types in 'good sweetest', it displays no results because there is no record with the two words appearing together; BUT appearing in an entry at different places. for example, the record says: A good action is an ever-remaining store and a pure yield the user types in 'good', it will show up this record, but if the user types in 'good' + 'pure', it will not show anything. what i would like is that if the user types in 'good' + 'pure' it should records containing these keywords highlighting them. search.php code: $search_result = ""; $search_result = $_POST["q"]; $search_result = trim($search_result); //Check if the string is empty if ($search_result == "") { echo "<p class='error'>Search Error. Please Enter Your Search Query.</p>" ; exit(); } if ($search_result == "%" || $search_result == "_" || $search_result == "+" ) { echo "<p class='error1'>Search Error. Please Enter a Valid Search Query.</p>" ; exit(); } $result = mysql_query('SELECT cQuotes, vAuthor, cArabic, vReference FROM thquotes WHERE cQuotes LIKE "%' . mysql_real_escape_string($search_result) .'%" ORDER BY idQuotes DESC', $conn) or die ('Error: '.mysql_error()); function h($s) { echo htmlspecialchars($s, ENT_QUOTES); } function highlightWords($string, $word) { $string = preg_replace("/".preg_quote($word, "/")."/i", "<span class='highlight'>$0</span>", $string); /*** return the highlighted string ***/ return $string; } ?> <div class="caption">Search Results</div> <div class="center_div"> <table> <?php while ($row= mysql_fetch_array($result, MYSQL_ASSOC)) { $cQuote = highlightWords(htmlspecialchars($row['cQuotes']), $search_result); ?> <tr> <td style="text-align:right; font-size:18px;"><?php h($row['cArabic']); ?></td> <td style="font-size:16px;"><?php echo $cQuote; ?></td> <td style="font-size:12px;"><?php h($row['vAuthor']); ?></td> <td style="font-size:12px; font-style:italic; text-align:right;"><?php h($row['vReference']); ?></td> </tr> <?php } ?> </table> </div> search.html: <form name="myform" class="wrapper"> <input type="text" name="q" onkeyup="showUser()" class="txt_search"/> <input type="button" name="button" onclick="showUser()" class="button"/> <p> <div id="txtHint"></div> </form>

  • How to limit results by SUM

    - by superspace
    I have a table of events called event. For the purpose of this question it only has one field called date. The following query returns me a number of events that are happening on each date for the next 14 days: SELECT DATE_FORMAT( ev.date, '%Y-%m-%d' ) as short_date, count(*) as date_count FROM event ev WHERE ev.date >= NOW() GROUP BY short_date ORDER BY ev.start_date ASC LIMIT 14 The result could be as follows: +------------+------------+ | short_date | date_count | +------------+------------+ | 2010-03-14 | 1 | | 2010-03-15 | 2 | | 2010-03-16 | 9 | | 2010-03-17 | 8 | | 2010-03-18 | 11 | | 2010-03-19 | 14 | | 2010-03-20 | 13 | | 2010-03-21 | 7 | | 2010-03-22 | 2 | | 2010-03-23 | 3 | | 2010-03-24 | 3 | | 2010-03-25 | 6 | | 2010-03-26 | 23 | | 2010-03-27 | 14 | +------------+------------+ 14 rows in set (0.06 sec) Let's say I want to dislay these events by date. At the same time I only want to display a maximum of 10 at a time. How would I do this? Somehow I need to limit this result by the SUM of the date_count field but I do not know how. Anybody run into this problem before? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

  • Writing an installer using codigniter

    - by RobertWHurst
    I'm just about finished my first release of automailer, a program I've been working on for a while now. I've just got to finish writing the installer. Its job is to rewrite the codigniter configs from templates. I've got the read/write stuff working, but I'd like to be able to test the server credentials given by the user without codingiter throwing a system error if they're wrong. Is there a function other than mysql_connect that I can use to test a connection that will return true or false and won't make codeigniter have a fit?

  • Stopping users posting more than once

    - by user342391
    Before posting my form I am checking the database to see if there are any previous posts from the user. If there are previous posts then the script will kick back a message saying you have already posted. The problem is that what I am trying to achieve isn't working it all goes wrong after my else statement. It is also probable that there is an sql injection vulnerability too. Can you help??4 <?php include '../login/dbc.php'; page_protect(); $customerid = $_SESSION['user_id']; $checkid = "SELECT customerid FROM content WHERE customerid = $customerid"; if ($checkid = $customerid) {echo 'You cannot post any more entries, you have already created one';} else $sql="INSERT INTO content (customerid, weburl, title, description) VALUES ('$_POST[customerid]','$_POST[webaddress]','$_POST[pagetitle]','$_POST[pagedescription]')"; if (!mysql_query($sql)) { die('Error: ' . mysql_error()); } echo "1 record added"; ?>

  • I need help with a SQL query. Fetching an entry, it's most recent revision and it's fields.

    - by Tigger ate my dad
    Hi there, I'm building a CMS for my own needs, and finished planning my database layout. Basically I am abstracting all possible data-models into "sections" and all entries into one table. The final layout is as follows: Database diagram: I have yet to be allowed to post images, so here is a link to a diagram of my database. Entries (section_entries) are children of their section (sections). I save all edits to the entries in a new revision (section_entries_revisions), and also track revisions on the sections (section_revisions), in order to match the values of a revision, to the fields of the section that existed when the entry-revision was made. The section-revisions can have a number of fields (section_revision_fields) that define the attributes of entries in the section. There is a many-to-many relationship between the fields (section_revision_fields) and the entry-revisions (section_entry_revisions), that stores the values of the attributes defined by the section revision. Feel free to ask questions if the diagram is confusing. Now, this is the most complex SQL I've ever worked with, and the task of fetching my data is a little daunting. Basically what i want help with, is fetching an entry, when the only known variables are; section_id, section_entry_id. The query should fetch the most recent revision of that entry, and the section_revision model corresponding to section_revision_id in the section_entry_revisions table. It should also fetch the values of the fields in the section-revision. I was hoping for a query result, where there would be as many rows as fields in the section. Each row would contain the information of the entry and the section, and then information for one of the fields (e.g. each row corresponding to a field and it's value). I tried to explain the best I could. Again, feel free to ask questions if my description somehow lacking. I hope someone is up for the challenge. Best regards. :-)

  • Empty files generated from running `mysqldump` using PHP

    - by alex
    I keep getting empty files generated from running $command = 'mysqldump --opt -h localhost -u username -p \'password\' dbname > \'backup 2009-04-15 09-57-13.sql\''; command($command); Anyone know what might be causing this? My password has strange characters in it, but works fine with connecting to the db. I've ran exec($command, $return) and outputted the $return array and it is finding the command. I've also ran it with mysqldump > file.sql and the file contains Usage: mysqldump [OPTIONS] database [tables] OR mysqldump [OPTIONS] --databases [OPTIONS] DB1 [DB2 DB3...] OR mysqldump [OPTIONS] --all-databases [OPTIONS] For more options, use mysqldump --help So it would seem like the command is working.
