  • Firefox Extension needs to get cookie from PHP redirected external page.

    I am writing a firefox extension that interacts with a JSON server interface. I receive a url to the server which then redirects to the client site that provides the cookie. I need to be able to set this cookie in the users browser without physically loading it in the browser. Is this possible through an AJAX call? I tried using a hidden iframe, however firefox does not seem to like a php redirect in the iframe. My current solution is to load the site in a second tab that never gains focus and then auto close it when the cookie is set. This is very messy and would prefer something more streamlines. Any thoughts?

  • jQuery CSS Custom Flyout Menu Styling Issue

    I'm close to nailing this flyout menu I have been working on, just have a couple of current pain points. I'm trying to get left/right padding on my submenu items, as you can see I am not quite there. Also when the first submenu is displayed, I want to create a bit of a gap between the first row of list items and the child. Below is my current code and a screen shot displaying what I want.   • How to combine mvc2 client side validation with other client side validation?

    I have a page using mvc2 with client side validation. The client side validation is provided by Microsoft Ajax mvc validation script. This does very well to validate all fields that are related to the model. I also have fields that are never sent to the server such as the confirm password value, and the accept agreement. For these fields i need pure client side validation. I created the javascript to do this, but am now having a hard time integrating the two validatiosn together. I was hoping that i could do something like add another error to an array, or set the page manually to not valid to make sure that the user cannot submit. Basically follow the same approach that i would with normal asp.net validation. I can't find anything like that. In all examples validators are discussed that are connected to parts of the model. What is my best approach here?

    I have a jQuery colorbox opened over top of my webpage (with a <select> drop down list) and I'd like to make an AJAX call every time a new <option> is selected from the drop down.   • how to display a dialog if user can't download file

    hi. dealing with php/html/javascript. i'm trying to figure out a good/best approach to allowing a user to download a file. i can have the traditional href link, that interfaces with the back end php app to download the file. however, i want to have the app display some sort of dialog/alert if the user isn't able (basedon acl/permissions) to download the file... does this have to ba an ajax thing, as i don't want to do a page refresh... thoughts/comments/pointers to code samples are appreciated. thanks. -tom

    I have a MVC app with quite a few Controller Actions that are called using Ajax (jQuery) and return partial views content which updates a part of the screen. But what I would rather do is return JSON something like this. return Json(new { Result = true, Message = "Item has been saved", Content = View("Partial") }); Where the HTML is just a property of the Json. What this means is I need to retrieve the HTML that is rendered by the View method. Is there any easy way to do this, a few examples I have seen are quite convoluted. Edit: This question was originally for ASP.NET MVC 1, but if version 2 makes it easier I would like to hear the answer.

    Hello, I have PHP page where users can upload photos (using Ajax & PHP script). Those uploaded photos (thumbs) are shown after upload in DIV below upload field. Then, after hitting send button I want to clone that DIV at that same page at message board, bellow other messages with or without uploaded photos. When I try to do that with: var pht = $("#photos").clone().addClass('p_pht'); and try to display sent photos bellow sent message like this: $("div#wall").append('<div class=msg>'+ message +'</div><div class=n_pht>'+ pht +'</div>'); I get Jquery error message "[object Object]" in place where the photos should be displaying. What am I doing wrong?

    Hi, I want to know what is the best way to send data from web browser to server using post method. I've seen a practice where they wrap all the elements data in XML, convert it into Base64 string and then post it to the server (via Ajax or hidden field). this way will not work if the Javascript is disabled, any how if I ignored this. is it a good practice to wrap elements into XML (or create my custom wrapper in general) and post them to server saying it will enhance the maintainability of the code or just stick with the classical way and no need to add unnecessary text in the post.

Do you see anything wrong?Am I missing something?

    I have a page in which i can successfully use the jquery focus function using live... $(".comment_text_class").live('focus', function() { //do something... }); but when something comes into the page(ajax loading) the focus function doesn't work as should be using the live function... as suggested i used focusin function.. $(".comment_text_class").live('focusin', function() { //do something... }); but still new elements do not have the behavior... also i want to hide something using the live function but it doesn't work at all.. even for the elements in the page itself... $(".comment_button").live('hide', function(){}); is the focus and hide function implemented at all by jquery 1.4.2 or is it a bug... because the live focus was not working with jquery 1.4 version...     I have a web application written in pure JavaScript (no pre-generated HTML except for the document which loads all the JS files). This app contains a login form which is created dynamically when the document.ready event event is triggered. I trick the browser into displaying the "Remember password?" dialog by posting the login form into a hidden iframe before logging in using ajax (in Firefox the password appears on the saved password list, so this part obviously works) but saved passwords never get filled in after the login screen is loaded again at a later time. The same thing happens in Firefox and Safari. Is there something I can do or some function I can call to trigger autofill? UPDATE: autofill works in Safari on initial page load, but not when user logs out and the login form is recreated without a page reload. In Firefox it never works.

Or do I really have to grab back to document.createElement? Note: I know that I can use just the same name for each input element and retrieve them as an array, but the above is just a basic example, in real I really need to have the name attribute changed, because it not only contains the index, but also other information such as parentindex, ordering, etc. It's been used to add/rearrange/remove (sub)menu items. Edit: this is related to this bug, The jQuery (I'm using 1.3.2) does thus not seem to create inputs that way?     I really need a localized dropdown calendar. An English calendar doesn't exactly communicate excellence on a Norwegian website ;-) I have experimented with the jQuery DatePicker, their website says it can be localized, however that doesn't seem to work. I am using ASPNET.MVC, and I really want to stick to one javascript library. In this case jQuery. The ajax toolkit calendar would be acceptable, if only it too would display Norwegian names. Update: Awesome! I see I am missing the language files, a not so minor detail :-)

  • HTML overlay height to cover entire visible page

    I have a web page that loads some stuff using AJAX. I want to display an overlay with a loading indicator while the loading is in progress, so that the user cannot interact with most of the page - except the menu at the top. I'm using jQuery and the jQuery BlockUI plugin to do this. I call $(element).block() and it works fine, but the overlay only extends as far down as the current content of my page. As more content is loaded and added to the page the overlay moves down with it and this looks a bit ugly. Ideally I'd like it to cover the entire visible area of the page right from the start. A simple hack for doing this would be to set a large height value for the overlay, like this: $(myElement).block({ overlayCSS: { height: '10000px' } }); ... but this creates a scrollbar! How do I avoid this and make it just the right height to cover the visible page, but not enlarge it?

  • Producer/consumer in Grails?

    Hi all, I'm trying to implement a Consumer/Producer app in Grails, after several unsuccessful attempts at implementing concurrent threads. Basically I want to store all the events coming from a clients (through separate AJAX calls) in a single queue and then process such a queue in a linear way as soon as new events are added. This looks like a Producer/Consumer problem: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Producer-consumer_problem How can I implement this in Grails (maybe with a timer or even better by generating an event 'process queue')? Basically I'd like to a have a singleton service waiting for new events in the queue and processing them linearly (even if the queue is loaded by several concurrent processes). Any hints? Cheers!

    Hi, Spring mvc is a framework that has been long time out there, it is well documented and proven technology. A lot of web sites are using spring. Seam is a framework based on jsf - rich faces implementation. It has a lot of ajax based components. It uses some heavy stuff like EJB, JPA. All of this is prone to errors and this framework is so slow (at my computer it is almost impossible do develop something because it is really slow, especially redeploying on jboss) But is is very good for back office applications. Does someone have a professional experience with this two frameworks? Can you recommend the better one ? Why? Regards

  • No Flash, How do i handle jcupload ?

    I am using http://www.jcupload.com/ (basic) to upload files. I am considering having a friend write a more custom version or to do magic with ajax; so the solution should be able to work without that. With jcupload i include css, a script and write <div id="jcupload_content"></div> in my html and i am done. Problem is, with no flash i get an object box. Instead i would like is an iframe or a html form to upload the file. How do i do this? Should i detect flash from javascript and overload the div myself if no flash is available? How do i detect if flash is available? with jquery i know i can write something like $('#jcupload_content').innerHtml = blah; How do i handle the flash part?

    I came across this RDMS via the advert on stackoverflow. Seems to be in the vein of MS Access / Filemaker / Apex database development tools but focused on web based applications. It quotes rave reviews from EWeek and a favourable mention from Dr Dobbs regarding its ability to create AJAX web applications without coding. The Eweek review, apparently written by an ASP.NET programmer, goes on to proclaim the ease at which apps can be extended using the inbuilt XBasic language and how custom javascript can easily be added without wading through code. Has anyone here built a web app with Alpha 5? Does anyone have comments on the development process, the speed of it or limitations they encountered along the way? To me it seems Oracle APEX comes closest to the feature set, has anyone programmed in both and have any comments?

  • fb:request-form in iframe redirects away from facebook

    I have an <fb:requestform> in an iFrame Facebook app. I have set target="_parent", so that the callback will target the parent iFrame and not itself, which seems to work as expected. But, instead of my desired file loading, I get redirected to my server. Checking the response of the requestform's POST in Firebug revealed this: <script type="text/javascript"> top.location.href = "http://www.facebook.com/login.php?api_key=***&v=1.0&req_perms=&next=http%3A%2F%2F***"; </script> I have already had this same problem when sending jQuery AJAX requests to update various elements in an iFrame. I solved the problem by making sure my headers contain P3P: CP="CAO PSA OUR". That is indeed set for this call as well (can be seen clearly in Firebug), but I still get redirected to facebook.com/login.php.
