    I work full time on an android project and am very comfortable with both java and the android framework. On a good day, I would rate my abilities at an 8, and maybe a 7 on a bad day. I've recently found myself with more free time then I'm used too, so I have been working on a lot of personal projects. I am beginning to wonder what others think about this; is it worth my time to continue experimenting and pushing Android, or would I be better off learning another language? What do you all think about this? What would you do with more free time and energy than you know what to do with?

    I am designing an application that has following flow: User designs a form using web application (J2EE backend application) The form is sent to mobile device (Android) Mobile device User fills out the form designed in 1. Results are synced with backend. One of my ideas is to create a common java UI library for creating the type of forms that I need. This library would also have a native renderers for different platforms (Web and Android would be implemented first). The whole point of it is to have a native experience on web and android side. Are there any existing solutions to meet the requirements that I have? Is it a good approach to achieve them?

  • Why Adobe Air is so underrated for building mobile apps?

    I worked with Adobe Flash related technologies for the last 5 years, although not being a big fan of Adobe. I see some little bugs happening in some apps, but I cannot imagine why a lot of big companies do not even think to use use Adobe Air as a good technology for their mobile apps. I see a lot of mobile developer positions asking for experts in Android or iOS , but very much less positions asking for Adobe Air, even when Adobe Air apps have the advantage of being multi-plataform, with the same app working in Blackberry, iOS and Android. Is so much easier to develop a game using Flash, than using Android SDK, for example. It really have flaws (that I never saw) or it is just some kind of mass prejudgement? I also would like to hear what a project manager or a indie developer takes when choosing a plataform for building apps.

    Is is possible to export an entire unity3d project/game as an AssetBundle and load it on iOS/Android/Windows on an app that doesn't know anything about such game beforehand? What I have in mind is something like the web plugin does - it loads a series of .unity3d files over http, and render inline in the browser window. Is it even possible to do something closer for iOS/Android?     Hi, I presented a talk on Windows Phone 7 @ MoMo and got awesome response, even though WP7 is quite new still. I also demoed 2 applications on both emulator and the actual device. It enjoy the look on audience faces when they see the app actually work on actual device. I see a great opportunity on WP7 and everyone I met agrees on the fact the WP7 has a very bright future ahead. The Ecosystem which WP7 has (developing/ debugging tools, emulator, almost flat learning curve,  office/sharepoint integration a lively forum, marketplace) makes it a major player in mobile, already.   • Google-Calendar offline?

    How can I have my google-calendars availabe offline on my PC as well? I have been using dropbox to sync my calendars in ics-format between different PC's instead of using google calendar. The disadvantage of google-calendar is, that I can only see my appointments when online. Now I want to sync my calendars with my android device as well, what does not seem to be possible yet. So I am planning to have an online copy of all my appointments on Google-Calendar, in order to sync them with my Android device. At the same time I want to be able to access my appointments offline (have an offline copy of each calendar on my PC's synced via Dropbox). Is there a way to automatically duplicate and sync Coogle-Calendars with Ubuntu to achieve this?   • What are the default layout settings in gnome-terminal?

    I want to replace gnome-terminal fully by lxterminal. I've started by changing the default terminal emulator. So I ran sudo update-alternatives --config x-terminal-emulator, and chose lxterminal. After that, I ran dconf-editor and went to org - gnome - desktop - applications - terminal and changed gnome-terminal to lxterminal and removed the -x in the exec arg part. The only problem though, is that by default, lxterminal doesn't look like gnome-terminal. What are gnome-terminal's default layout settings? I'm especially looking for the hexadecimal colour codes for both text and background.

The decision is difficult because a lot of my work depends on my communication device, and whatever I pick, I will be stuck with for 2 years.     I am making a hybrid Android app. At first I decided to use localStorage, after spending 2 days, I realized that it is very strange and so dropped it. Then, I picked up indexedDB, after spending today's whole day and actually getting the output in Google Chrome, it is not running inside a WebView of the android app. And I never used Web SQL database at all because it was deprecated. Anyhow, it has come to my notice that PhoneGap still uses Web SQL and android's browsers support it. Why was Web SQL deprecated in the first place? And will it be a good idea for me to go with Web SQL now?

Now I am jumping back and forth between developing my Android port and tweaking/adding features to my original Swing app. All of my commits are linear (fast-forward) and only my commit messages give hints indicating whether I'm working on my Swing app or my Android app. Is there a better way to keep track of the work flow in my git repo?

  • How to have the game world get rendered on just a part of the screen?

    I am implementing a game on both Desktop and Android. The Desktop version will just rely on the keyboard to handle the user input on the game screen, whilst the Android one will have to have a set of buttons placed in a bar at the bottom of the game screen, using a Stage. Consequently, I am expecting the game world to take up the entire space available on the Desktop screen, whilst on Android it should expand to the entire width of the screen, and to the screen height minus the height of the buttons bar I've mentioned. What would be an appropriate approach of handling space sharing between the game world and the buttons bar? Thank you.
