• Transfer data between C++ classes efficiently

  Hi, Need help... I have 3 classes, Manager which holds 2 pointers. One to class A another to class B . A does not know about B and vise versa. A does some calculations and at the end it puts 3 floats into the clipboard. Next, B pulls from clipboard the 3 floats, and does it's own calculations. This loop is managed by the Manager and repeats many times (iteration after iteration). My problem: Now class A produces a vector of floats which class B needs. This vector can have more than 1000 values and I don't want to use the clipboard to transfer it to B as it will become time consumer, even bottleneck, since this behavior repeats step by step. Simple solution is that B will know A (set a pointer to A). Other one is to transfer a pointer to the vector via Manager But I'm looking for something different, more object oriented that won't break the existent separation between A and B Any ideas ? • User Management: Managing users in user-defined "groups", database schema and logistics

  I'm a noob, development wise and logistically-wise. I'm developing a site that lets people take a test... My client wants the ability for a user with the roll/privledge "admin" (a step below a super-admin) to be allowed to create users and only see/edit the users that they create... The users created in that "category" or group need some information that their superior provides. For example, I log in as a "manager", I have the ability to invite people to take the test, and manage those people. Before adding those people, I will have filled out a short survey about myself... Right now, the users that are invited will be asked some of the same questions as the manager. I'd like to cut down the redundancy by using the information put into the database by the manager and apply it to the invited users. How do I set up my database to work with this criterion? I'm a little confused about how to do this! Let me know if I can add more details... (This is a mysql and php app)

  Hello! I'm using Django Paginator everywhere on my website and even wrote a special template tag, to make it more convenient. But now I got to a state, where I need to make a complex custom raw SQL query, that without a LIMIT will return about 100K records. How can I use Django Pagintor with custom query? But when I use custom manager: all_objects = Person.objects.complicated_list(); all data is selected, and only then python list is sliced, which is VERY slow. How can I make my custom manager behave similar like built in one?

• Design: How to declare a specialized memory handler class

  On an embedded type system, I have created a Small Object Allocator that piggy backs on top of a standard memory allocation system. This allocator is a Boost::simple_segregated_storage< class and it does exactly what I need - O(1) alloc/dealloc time on small objects at the cost of a touch of internal fragmentation. My question is how best to declare it. Right now, it's scope static declared in our mem code module, which is probably fine, but it feels a bit exposed there and is also now linked to that module forever. Normally, I declare it as a monostate or a singleton, but this uses the dynamic memory allocator (where this is located.) Furthermore, our dynamic memory allocator is being initialized and used before static object initialization occurs on our system (as again, the memory manager is pretty much the most fundamental component of an engine.) To get around this catch 22, I added an extra 'if the small memory allocator exists' to see if the small object allocator exists yet. That if that now must be run on every small object allocation. In the scheme of things, this is nearly negligable, but it still bothers me. So the question is, is there a better way to declare this portion of the memory manager that helps decouple it from the memory module and perhaps not costing that extra isinitialized() if statement? If this method uses dynamic memory, please explain how to get around lack of initialization of the small object portion of the manager.

  Hi guys, I am writing a user security module using SQLServer 2008 so threfore need to design a database accordingly. Formally I had Userinfo table with UserID, Username and ParentID to build a recursion and populated tree to represent hierarchy but now I have following criteria which I need to develop. I have now USERS, ADMINISTRATORS and GROUPS. Each node in the user hierarchy is either a user, administrator or group. User Someone who has login access to my application Administrator A user who may also manage all their child user accounts (and their children etc) This may include creating new users and assigning permissions to those users. There is no limit to the number of administrators in user structure. The higher up in the hierarchy that I go administrators have more child accounts to manage which include other child administrators. Group A user account can be designated as a group. This will be an account which is used to group one or more users together so that they can be manage as a unit. But no one can login to my application using a group account. This is how I want to create structure Super Administrator administrator ------------------------------------------------------------- | | | Manager A Manager B Manager C (adminstrator) (administrator) (administrator) | ----------------------------------------- | | | Employee A Employee B Sales Employees (User) (User) (Group) | ------------------------ | | | Emp C Emp D Emp E (User) (User) (User) Now how to build the table structure to achieve this. Do I need to create Users table alongwith Group table or what? Please guide I would really appreciate.

  Hello I am working on a proposal where we have to implement a software which can move files between one source to destination.The overall goal of this project is to create intelligent file transfer.This software will have three components :- 1) Broker : Broker is the module that communicates with other brokers, monitors files, moves files, retrieves configurations from the Configuration Manager, supplies process information for the monitor, archives files, writes all process data to log files and escalates issues if necessary 2) Configuration Manager :Configuration Manager is a web-based application used to configure and deploy the configuration to all brokers. 3) Monitor : Monitor is a web-based application used to monitor each Broker in the environment. This project has to be built up in java and protocol for file transfer in tcp/ip. Client does not want to use FTP. File Transfer seems very easy, until there are several processes who are waiting to pick the file up automatically. Several problems arise: How can we guarantee the file is received at the destination? If a file isn’t received the first time, we should try it again (even after a restart or power breakdown) ? How does the receiver knows the file that is received is complete? How can we transfer multiple files synchronously? How can we protect the bandwidth, so file transfer isn’t blocking other processes? How does one interoperate between multiple OS platforms? What about authentication? How can we monitor het workflow? Auditing / logging Archiving Can you please provide answer to some of these? • Using ms: xpath functions inside XPathExpression

  I am trying to use Microsoft XPath Extension Functions (such as ms:string-compare http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms256114.aspx) inside an XPathExpression object. Is there any way to do this (or any other way to use ms: extensions inside an XPathExpression)?

• CustomButton Field not aligning in the center

• How to force my method to accept objects from external software?

  I have a method which needs to take a callback object as an argument and then (at the moment when it's needed) my method will call a specific method of the callback object. I wrote a class called Manager which has a method called addListener. As the argument for this method I need to use a callback object which is defined by the external software. So, I define the addListener in the following way: public void addListener(Listener listener). Of course Eclipse complains because it does not know what Listener is (because the Listener is defined by the external software). The only think that I know (should know) about the Listener is that it has a method called doSomething. So, to pleasure Eclipse I add an interface before my Manager class: interface Listener { void doSomething(); } public class CTManager { ... The problem seems to be solved but then I try to test my software. So, I create a class called test. In this class I create an instance of the Manager class and try to use addListener method of this instance. I also create a class Listener, instantiate it and give the instance to the addListener. And it's the place where the problem appears. Eclipse writes that addListener is not applicable to the given argument. I think it's because it expect something from my Listenr interface but gets something from the Listener class. How can I solve this problem?

• Change workarea size of Linux desktop

  I'm trying to write a taskbar/panel for Linux (like fbpanel or pypanel) using GTK# and am a little hung up. I've created a Gtk.Window to act as the panel and positioned/resized it appropriately. I've also set its WindowTypeHint to Dock so that it remains on top of other windows. So far it 'looks' like a panel. However, if the panel is running and I maximize another window, that window fills the whole desktop - meaning the bottom portion of the window is covered up by my panel. I've gathered that I probably need to change the desktop's workarea. How can I go about doing this in C#? (Preferably using GTK#, but I don't mind using interop if it's necessary.) As a bit of a side point, I'm curious if anyone knows how I would go about 'informing' the window manager about where applications' taskbar buttons are. (For example, if the window manager wants to animate the minimize action so that the window shrinks down to its button on the taskbar, how do I let the window manager know where that button is on the taskbar?)

• BlackBerry Field class extension will not paint.

  Using JRE 5.0.0, simulator device is an 8520. On a screen I am using a FlowFieldManager(Manager.VERTICAL_SCROLL) and adding Fields to it to show data. When I do this.flowManager = new FlowFieldManager(Manager.VERTICAL_SCROLL); Field field = new Field() { protected void paint(Graphics graphics) { graphics.drawTest("Test", 0, 0); } protected void layout(int width, int height) { this.setExtend(300, 300); // just testing } } this.flowManager.add(field); The screen renders correctly and 'Test' appears on the screen. If, on the other hand, I try and abstract this into a class called CustomField with the same properties and add it to the flow manager the render will not happen. Debugging shows that the device enters into the Object, into the layout function, but not the paint function. I can't figure out why the paint function is not called when I extend Field. The 4.5 API says that layout and paint are the only functions that I really need to extend. (getPreferredWidth and getPreferredHeight will be used to calculate screen sizes etc.) Thanks in advance.

• IntellIJ editor doesn't appear

  I updated my IntellIJ install to the latest version (11.1.4) and now the Editor window doesn't appear. Double-clicking on the file, jump-to-source, nothing happens. No error message, it just doesn't appear. If I double-click on an xml layout file the preview window works, but no Editor window. Have installed and reinstalled; went back to an earlier version and it doesn't work there either. I'm at a loss. Any ideas? Update: Editor works if I create a new project.   Completed CentOS 5.4 perfect install from howtoforge.com (ISPConfig 3). I have ISPConfig 3 deployed with a handful of sites. I installed xen: yum install xen kernel-xen i installed the recommended (linuxtopia.org) virtualization packages and started libvirtd yum install virt-manager libvirt libvirt-python libvirt-python python-virtinst i have damn small linux .iso in /root virt-install --name damnsmall --ram 16 --file=/var/lib/xen/images/damnsmall.img --file-size=1 --vnc --cdrom=/root/current.iso yields the error: ERROR Host does not support any virtualization options i have also tried this from GNOME (virt-manager) and i cant even add a connection. i read somewhere i need to reboot with the xen kernel--i dont think i want to do that--though, not really sure why. i need to keep ISPConfig untouched.   Why does OS X insist on spinning up all the attached external drives (firewire, usb) when loading a file from the local (internal) drive? It's driving me insane that I have to wait for 3 attached drives (1 back-up, 2 media) to spin up -- a total of 20s -- to access a file that is located only on my local/internal drive. There is no obvious need to access the other drives; nothing is being read from them and nothing need be written. Examples: Quicktime X opening a file from the local HDD. Starting Caffeine, an app which doesn't access any other files at all. Can I tell OS X to only spin those drives up when actually accessing them?

• CentOS6 system-config-packages missing?

  I've just installed CentOS 6 with gnome but the graphical package manager no longer appears to be there. I've tried installing both system-config-packages and pirut using Yum but neither finds anything. I've checked the package lists and it doesn't appear to be there. I looked at this list which doesn't imply that there is an RPM at all for CentOS6. The package manager is available during the install, however. I don't recall seeing an option to include it in the installer but that's not to say it isn't there- I just don't fancy re installing the OS just to check if it's there. Has the package been superseded by another package by a different name, or has it been removed completely? If so, are there any other graphical package managers I can try? I generally use Yum but as I'm experimenting with CentOS6 at the moment it's just nice to have a quick graphical representation of the packages available.

• Mac Mini Wake on Lan

  My Mac Mini has a setting in the Energy Saver category called Wake for Ethernet network access. Now the way I read this option is that any network access to the Mac whilst it is asleep will wake it up, but it doesn't. I have read that I have to send it the magic packet to wake it up, but what I really want to do is be able to simply attempt to access the Mini over the network and it wake up on demand without sending a magic packet. Can this be done? If it helps I am using a Netgear router.

  Our company had resently upgraded to a domain functionality from workgroup and now we get this error message shown below on the clients laptops. The software on the server is working as it was opening the SECWARE application and a successful login to the database is possible.But from our workstations we cannot access the database to get the login screen. error in DB_OpenDS: ERROR [08001] [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access denied. • VMWare server host agent service won't start

  I'm using VMWare Server 2.0 on Windows Server 2003 R2. Sometimes after restarting the host machine, the VMWare host agent service won't start due to an error. This is the error messages from Event Viewer: [Service control manager] Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the VMware Host Agent service to connect. [Service control manager] The VMware Host Agent service failed to start due to the following error: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. I've set the service to automatically restart after subsequent failure using services.msc (using a 10 min. delay), but it still won't start. Only starting the service manually seems to work. Has anyone experienced this before? What workarounds or fixes are there?

• Cognos 8.3 and Oracle11g

  When i place ojdbc5.jar in the c8\webapps\p2pd\WEB-INF\lib directory... i receive the error below. And yes the content store is on an oracle 11g RAC database. I am running Oracle11g Client. Cognos version is 8.3 SP4. [Content Manager database connection] 1. [ ERROR ] The database connection failed. 2. [ ERROR ] Content Manager failed to start because it could not load driver "oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver". Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Urgent :The desktop currently has no desktop sources

  Although i know there are large no. of post already floating over same issue , but am having no luck so far. I am getting below error message when trying to connect desktop by vmware view client 4: "the desktop currently has no desktop sources............. " My configuration is listed below: using view manager server over VM box. successully deployed 10 desktop VM over View manager and they are persistent mode. previoulsy few users were able to coonect to these desktops successfully under desktop sources i am getting "Domain name\user ID" and under status its showing "Ready" So when any other user who is authenticated trying to access desktop getting above mentioned error message. The other users are unique one who previously never logged in. Also i tried to rebooth the VM desktops assuming they might be locked by another user , but still am getting the same error message. Please help.

• Looking for a manual/how-to for installing a Canon iRunner 210s network printer

  A client has a Canon iRunner210S and is complaining about slow print speeds. I've searched for a install manual online but came up empty. A call to Canon technical referred me to their dealer network for service, as as informing me that there isn't a manual available on their website. Anyone know how to install these and/or have a link to a manual? The current setup has the printers on a LAN Manager printer port instead of on straight IP ports. Is this normal for this printer? And what exactly are Lan Manager ports (based on my research, they appear to be a way to authenticate a connection)?
