• Monitor blinking

  Hi I have Ubuntu 10.04, my laptop is ASUS k50ij, intel duo t3000, 2gb ram, 320 HDD, intel gma 4500M video card. My problem is that a couple days ago my monitor had start blinking for a few seconds. Then it stops and begins the same behaviour let's say in next 2 hours. What am i missing here? Another funny problem is that when i give more or less brightness to monitor the pop up window shows and giving "Power information: Laptop battery is charged". When my brightness is lower the blinking increases and vice versa. thx for help

• Files lost after reboot in Windows

  Hi, I have a dual boot OS(Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows 7) in my laptop. I recently copied some important files from a pen drive to one of my NTFS drives from Ubuntu. After copying i was able to view the files in the directory and hence i formatted the pen drive. The problem occurred when i rebooted the system in Windows, i could not find any of the files or the folders i copied in the drive. I again rebooted into Ubuntu and could not find it there also. What is the reason my files got deleted? Is there any way to recover them? Note : For your information my Windows was in hibernation state when i was copying the files in Ubuntu. Will this affect the files in any manner?

• Oracle RightNow CX for Good Customer Experiences

  Oracle RightNow CX is all about the customer experience, it’s about understanding what drives a good interaction and it’s about delivering a solution which works for our customers and by extension, their customers. One of the early guiding principles of Oracle RightNow was an 8-point strategy to providing good customer experiences. Establish a knowledge foundation Empowering the customer Empower employees Offer multi-channel choice Listen to the customer Design seamless experiences Engage proactively Measure and improve continuously The application suite provides all of the tools necessary to deliver a rewarding, repeatable and measurable relationship between business and customer. The Knowledge Authoring tool provides gap analysis, WYSIWIG editing (and includes HTML rich content for non-developers), multi-level categorisation, permission based publishing and Web self-service publishing. Oracle RightNow Customer Portal, is a complete web application framework that enables businesses to control their own end-user page branding experience, which in turn will allow customers to self-serve. The Contact Centre Experience Designer builds a combination of workspaces, agent scripting and guided assistances into a Desktop Workflow. These present an agent with the tools they need, at the time they need them, providing even the newest and least experienced advisors with consistently accurate and efficient information, whilst guiding them through the complexities of internal business processes. Oracle RightNow provides access points for customers to feedback about specific knowledge articles or about the support site in general. The system will generate ‘incidents’ based on the scoring of the comments submitted. This makes it easy to view and respond to customer feedback. It is vital, more now than ever, not to under-estimate the power of the social web – Facebook, Twitter, YouTube – they have the ability to cause untold amounts of damage to businesses with a single post – witness musician Dave Carroll and his protest song on YouTube, posted in response to poor customer services from an American airline. The first day saw 150,000 views and is currently at 12,011,375. The Times reported that within 4 days of the post, the airline’s stock price fell by 10 percent, which represented a cost to shareholders of $180 million dollars. It is a universally acknowledged fact, that when customers are unhappy, they will not come back, and, generally speaking, it only takes one bad experience to lose a customer. The idea that customer loyalty can be regained by using social media channels was the subject of a 2011 Survey commissioned by RightNow and conducted by Harris Interactive. The survey discovered that 68% of customers who posted a negative review about a holiday on a social networking site received a response from the business. It further found that 33% subsequently posted a positive review and 34% removed the original negative review. Cloud Monitor provides the perfect mechanism for seeing what is being said about a business on public Facebook pages, Twitter or YouTube posts; it allows agents to respond proactively – either by creating an Oracle RightNow incident or by using the same channel as the original post. This leaves step 8 – Measuring and Improving: How does a business know whether it’s doing the right thing? How does it know if its customers are happy? How does it know if its staff are being productive? How does it know if its staff are being effective? Cue Oracle RightNow Analytics – fully integrated across the entire platform – Service, Marketing and Sales – there are in excess of 800 standard reports. If this were not enough, a large proportion of the database has been made available via the administration console, allowing users without any prior database experience to write their own reports, format them and schedule them for e-mail delivery to a distribution list. It handles the complexities of table joins, and allows for the manipulation of data with ease. I decided to rewrite a library I wrote in PHP to access Zune user data. I got it finished and decided to put it on github. Usage is simple: zuneCard = ZuneCard('ZuneTagHere') You can access things like user information, favorites, recent plays, and most played. The properties are documented (pydoc, under /docs). Read the EPUB data in JavaScript. Render it on page. Provide some extra functionality, like text highlights or page notes. I have no information about how I could do this. I'm willing to try a prototype project. What are the steps that I could take towards implementing such a thing?

• Should I use XNA (C#) or Java to create a basic game engine?

  My project is to design and build a game engine (in just about 3 months). I've been looking at two options for this game engine, either make it with XNA (and C#) or Java. My experience with XNA/C# is zero to none, however I have been a Java programmer for around 4 years. I've had a little play around with both but I am still not sure what would be best to use (i.e. what would turn out better with my experience). XNA is obviously for making games and I would presume making a game engine would be slightly easier in this - however that said, there are numerous libraries available in Java that could be used for a game engine (such as lwjgl). What would be my best option and ideally produce the best results out of both XNA or Java? For your information, the game engine at the moment is a 2D one and is not too advanced (although I plan to extend it in the future). Thanks in advance for all answers!

• Drawing simple geometric figures with DrawUserPrimitives?

  I'm trying to draw a simple triangle based on an array of vertex. I've been searching for a tutorial and I found a simple example on riemers but I couldn't get it to work. I think it was made for XNA 3 and it seems there were some changes to XNA 4? Using this example: http://www.riemers.net/eng/Tutorials/XNA/Csharp/Series1/The_first_triangle.php I get this error: Additional information: The current vertex declaration does not include all the elements required by the current vertex shader. TextureCoordinate0 is missing. I'm not english so I'm having some trouble to understand everything. For what I understand error is confusing because I'm trying to draw a triangle color based and not texture based and it shouldn't need a texture. Also I saw some articles about dynamic shadows and lights and I would like to know if this is the kind of code used to do it with some tweaks like culling because I'm wondering if its heavy code for performance in real time.

Currently I'm using System.Kind property to retrieve information regarding the programs from Windows Search but the results set does not look same like Windows 7 search. Order of items are different.   I'm running Ubuntu 11.10, FF 11, ATI Catalyst v12.2, Driver Package version 8.95, WebGL doesn't work. This is a pretty capable setup and definetly did have FF work previously, Note: I've downloaded and installed the ATI drivers from AMD. Not sure how to get WebGL working. • 2D SAT How to find collision center or point or area?

  I've just implemented collision detection using SAT and this article as reference to my implementation. The detection is working as expected but I need to know where both rectangles are colliding. I need to find the center of the intersection, the black point on the image above. I've found some articles about this but they all involve avoiding the overlap or some kind of velocity, I don't need this. I just need to put a image on top of it. Like two cars crashed so I put an image on top of the collision. Any ideas? ## Update The information I've about the rectangles are the four points that represents them, the upper right, upper left, lower right and lower left coordinates. I'm trying to find an algorithm that can give me the intersection of these points.

• How to get current gnome keyboad layout from terminal

  For usage in a bash script, I need to get the gnome keyboard layout the user is currently using. For example if the user sets its keyboard layout to en-us , I need a bash command that prints me this. How can I get that information? Update: setxkbmap -query is unfortunatelly not working. Below is the ouput with the en (first command) and the de (second command) layout activated. • Unable to add host running ubuntu for nagios monitoring?

  I am unable to add ubuntu server in nagios monitoring. I am getting "CHECK_NRPE: Socket timeout after 40 seconds." error for few services "CPU Load, Cron File Check, Current Users, Disk Check, NTP Daemon, Time Check, Total Processes, Zombie Processes". Please find the snapshot for the same below, Details: Installed nrpe plugin in ubuntu host. On running the below command from remote host running ubuntu (not nagios server) am getting the following output, root@ubuntu-cacher:~# /usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_nrpe -H localhost NRPE v2.13 But in nagios server i am getting "CHECK_NRPE: Socket timeout after 40 seconds." error. Additional Information: Am running nrpe under xinetd, when i execute the following command i dont get any output, root@ubuntu-cacher:~# netstat -at | grep nrpe But getting the following output when checking, root@ubuntu-cacher:~# netstat -ant|grep 5666 tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:5666 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN tcp 0 0 172.29.*.*:5666 172.29.*.*:33693 ESTABLISHED tcp 0 0 172.29.*.*:5666 172.29.*.*:33692 ESTABLISHED

  I have been asked to make a mobile app for a friends website. The website is a Multi level marketing site that sells products and franchises. A client logs in in to the website and can view his or her dashboard ( user can view team members, business volume, commissions, invoices, etc.) The app is supposed to bring the dashboard to user's mobile devices (w/ some added features). The company does not have any APIs that deal with interaction or authentication, and I am new to the whole secure login side of app development. My questions is this, how do I let the users gain access to their information via my app from the secure website when there is no API?

• Adding new events to be handled by script part without recompilation of c++ source code

  As in title I want to write an Event system with handling methods written in external script language, that is Angelscript. The AS methods would have acess to game's world modifing API ( which has to be regsitered for Angelscript Machine as the game starts) . I have come to this problem : if we use the Angelsript for rapid prototyping of the game's world behavior , we would like to be able to define new Event Types, without recompiling the main binary. Is that ever possible , don't stick to Angelscript, I think about any possible scripting language. The main thought is this : If there's some really new Event possible to be constructed , we must monitor some information coming from the binary, for example some variable value changing and the Events are just triggered on some conditions on those changes , wer might be monitoring the Creatures HP, by having a function call on each change, there we could define new Events such as Creature hurt, creature killed, creature healed , creature killed and tormented to pieces ( like geting HP very much below 0 ) . Are there any other ideas of constructing new Events at the scripting side ?

During the installation I selected manual partitioning and to: - Use and Format / (root) - Use and Format SWAP - Use and Keep data on /home - Use and Keep data on /data After I clicked "Continue" I get error creating and formatting SWAP partition. I go to terminal with Alt + F2 (?) and hit enter. I discovered that there was visible RAID as only disk with NO partitions.
