• Can anyone help with this (Javascript arrays)?

  Hi I am new to Netui and Javascript so go easy on me please. I have a form that is populated with container.item data retuned from a database. I am adding a checkbox beside each repeater item returned and I want to add the container item data to an array when one of the checkboxes is checked for future processing. • Effective simulation of compound poisson process in Matlab

  I need to simulate a huge bunch of compound poisson processes in Matlab on a very fine grid so I am looking to do it most effectively. I need to do a lot of simulations on the same random numbers but with parameters changing so it is practical to draw the uniforms and normals beforehand even though it means i have to draw a lot more than i will probably need and won't matter much because it will only need to be done once compared to in the order 500*n repl times the actual compound process generation. My method is the following: Let T be for how long i need to simulate and N the grid points, then my grid is: t=linspace(1,T,N); Let nrepl be the number of processes i need then I simulate P=poissrnd(lambda,nrepl,1); % Number of jumps for each replication U=(T-1)*rand(10000,nrepl)+1; % Set of uniforms on (1,T) for jump times N=randn(10000,nrepl); % Set of normals for jump size Then for replication j: Poiss=P(j); % Jumps for replication Uni=U(1:Poiss,j);% Jump times Norm=mu+sigma*N(1:Poiss,j);% Jump sizes Then this I guess is where I need your advice, I use this one-liner but it seems very slow: CPP_norm=sum(bsxfun(@times,bsxfun(@gt,t,Uni),Norm),1); In the inner for each jump it creates a series of same length as t with 0 until jump and then 1 after, multiplying this will create a grid with zeroes until jump has arrived and then the jump size and finally adding all these will produce the entire jump process on the grid.   I read somewehere (I thought on codinghorror) that it is bad practice to add strings together as if they are numbers, since like numbers, strings cannot be changed. Thus, adding them together creates a new string. So, I was wondering, what is the best way to add two strings together, when focusing on performance?   I have page with products. When adding a product to the shopping cart a modal window is fired up for confirmation - this can take up to 2 seconds. I want to show another modal window just before the confirmation modal to show "loading..." my problem is that I don't know how to close the "loading..." modal. • Cookies NULL On Some ASP.NET Pages (even though it IS there!)

  Hi folks I'm working on an ASP.NET application and I'm having difficulty in understanding why a cookie appears to be null. On one page (results.aspx) I create a cookie, adding entries every time the user clicks a checkbox. When the user clicks a button, they're taken to another page (graph.aspx) where the contents of that cookie is read. The problem is that the cookie doesn't seem to exist on graph.aspx. The following code returns null: Request.Cookies["MyCookie"]; The weird thing is this is only an issue on our staging server. This app is deployed to a production server and it's fine. It also works perfectly locally. I've put debug code on both pages: StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); foreach (string cookie in Request.Cookies.AllKeys) { sb.Append(cookie.ToString() + "<br />"); } this.divDebugOutput.InnerHtml = sb.ToString(); On results.aspx (where there are no problems), I can see the cookies are: MyCookie __utma __utmb __utmz _csoot _csuid ASP.NET_SessionId __utmc On graph.aspx, you can see there is no 'MyCookie' __utma __utmb __utmz _csoot _csuid ASP.NET_SessionId __utmc With that said, if I take a look with my FireCookie, I can see that the same cookie does in fact exist on BOTH pages! WTF?!?!?!?! (ok, rant over :-) ) Has anyone seen something like this before? Why would ASP.NET claim that a cookie is null on one page, and not null on another?

• Is there command-line tool to extract typedef, structure, enumeration, variable, function from a C or C++ file?

  I am desiring a command-line tool to extract a definition or declaration (typedef, structure, enumeration, variable, or function) from a C or C++ source file. Also a way to replace an existing definition/declaration would be handy (after transforming the extracted definition by a user-submitted script). Is there such generic tool available, or is some resonably close approximation of such a tool? Scriptability and ability to hook-up with user created scripts or programs is of importance here, although I am academically curious of GUI programs too. Open source solutions for Unix/Linux camp are preferred (although I am curious of Windows and OS X tools too). Primary language interests are C and C++ but more generic solution would be even better (I think we do not need super accurate parsing capabilities for finding, extracting and replacing a definition in a program source file). Sample Use Cases (extra - for the curious mind): Given deeply nested structs and variable (array) initializations of these types, suppose there is a need to change a struct definition by adding or reordering fields or rewriting the variable/array definitions in more readable format without introducing errors resulting from manual labor. This would work by extracting the old initializations, then using a script/program to write the new initializations to replace the old ones. For implementing a code browsing tool - extract a definition. Decorative code generation (e.g. logging function entries / returns). Scripted code structuring (e.g. extract this and that thing and put in different place without change - version control commit comment could document the command to perform this operation to make it evident and verifiable that nothing changed). Note about tags: More accurate tag than code-generation would be code-transformation but it does not exist.

• Cannot see echo message but my localhost works

  This is my very first php code and I can't seem to get it to work. (I'm using Eclipse) <html> <body> <?php echo 'Hello World!'; $txt = "I <3 you!"; $num = 19; ?> </html> </body> When I run it (http://localhost/Assignment3.0/index.php), I get: Not Found The requested URL /Assignment3.0/index.php was not found on this server. Apache/2.2.22 (Ubuntu) Server at localhost Port 80 But when I run this (http://localhost/), I get: It works! This is the default web page for this server. The web server software is running but no content has been added, yet. So what could be the problem? Where's my "Hello World!"? Also, for Stackoverflow formatting, how do I start a new line w/o adding a blank line in between?

• Hiding instantiated templates in shared library created with g++

  I have a file that contains the following: #include <map> class A {}; void doSomething() { std::map<int, A> m; } When compiled into a shared library with g++, the library contains dynamic symbols for all the methods of std::map<int, A>. Since A is private to this file, there is no possibility that std::map will be instantiated in any other shared library with the same parameters, so I'd like to make the template instantiation hidden (for some of the reasons described in this document). I thought I should be able to do this by adding an explicit instantiation of the template class and marking it as hidden, like so: #include <map> class A {}; template class __attribute__((visibility ("hidden"))) std::map<int, A>; void doSomething() { std::map<int, A> m; } However, this has no effect: the symbols are still all exported. I even tried compiling with -fvisibility=hidden, but this also has no effect on the visibility of the methods of std::map<int, A> (although it does hide doSomething). The document I linked to above describes the use of export maps to restrict visibility, but that seems very tedious. Is there a way to do what I want in g++ (other than using export maps)? If so, what is it? If not, is there a good reason why these symbols must always be exported, or is this just a omission in g++?

• What is the mean of @ModelAttribute annotation at method argument level?

  Spring 3 reference teaches us: When you place it on a method parameter, @ModelAttribute maps a model attribute to the specific, annotated method parameter I don't understand this magic spell, because i sure that model object's alias (key value if using ModelMap as return type) passed to the View after executing of the request handler method. Therefore when request handler method executes the model object's name can't be mapped to the method parameter. To solve this contradiction i went to stackoverflow and found this detailed example. The author of example said: // The "personAttribute" model has been passed to the controller from the JSP It seems, he is charmed by Spring reference... To dispel the charms i deployed his sample app in my environment and cruelly cut @ModelAttribute annotation from method MainController.saveEdit. As result the application works without any changes! So i conclude: the @ModelAttribute annotation is not needed to pass web form's field values to the argument's fields. Then i stuck to the question: what is the mean of @ModelAttribute annotation? If the only mean is to set alias for model object in View, then why this way better than explicitly adding of object to ModelMap?

  I am a Java developer and I have noticed some differences in extending abstract classes in c# as opposed to Java. I was wondering how a c# developer would achived the following. 1) Covarience public abstract class A { public abstract List<B> List(); } public class BList : List<T> where T : B { } public abstract class C : A { public abstract BList List(); } So in the above hierarchy, there is covarience in C where it returns a type compatible with what A returns. However this gives me an error in Visual Studio. Is there a way to specify a covarient return type in c#? 2) Adding a setter to a property public abstract class A { public abstract String Name { get; } } public abstract class B : A { public abstract String Name { get; set } } Here the compiler complains of hiding. Any suggestions? Please do not suggest using interfaces unless that is the ONLY way to do this.

• Why can't I create a templated sublcass of System::Collections::Generic::IEnumerable<T>?

  I want to create a generic IEnumerable implementation, to make it easier to wrap some native C++ classes. When I try to create the implementation using a template parameter as the parameter to IEnumerable, I get an error. Here's a simple version of what I came up with that demonstrates my problem: ref class A {}; template<class B> ref class Test : public System::Collections::Generic::IEnumerable<B^> // error C3225... {}; void test() { Test<A> ^a = gcnew Test<A>(); } On the indicated line, I get this error: error C3225: generic type argument for 'T' cannot be 'B ^', it must be a value type or a handle to a reference type If I use a different parent class, I don't see the problem: template<class P> ref class Parent {}; ref class A {}; template<class B> ref class Test : public Parent<B^> // no problem here {}; void test() { Test<A> ^a = gcnew Test<A>(); } I can work around it by adding another template parameter to the implementation type: ref class A {}; template<class B, class Enumerable> ref class Test : public Enumerable {}; void test() { using namespace System::Collections::Generic; Test<A, IEnumerable<A^>> ^a = gcnew Test<A, IEnumerable<A^>>(); } But this seems messy to me. Also, I'd just like to understand what's going on here - why doesn't the first way work?

• How do I get a reference to a rootViewController to a sub-view?

  An answer posted for one of my previous questions brings up another question; I am calling a new view controller, "RuleBuilder," from my rootViewController. The rootViewController holds a reference to a contacts array. How do I get a reference to that array into the RuleBuilder? I tried adding UITableViewController *rootViewController; ... @property (nonatomic, retain) UITableViewController *rootViewController; to RuleBuilder.h, and then @synthesize rootViewController; in RuleBuilder.m. When I instantiate and push the RuleBuilder from within rootViewController, I do this: ruleBuilder.rootViewController = self; But when I try this [rootViewController.contacts addObject:newContact]; from within RuleBuilder, I get a compiler error to the effect of "request for 'contacts' in something not a struct" (or very similar; I haven't implemented this exact snippet of code, but I tried an identical approach not an hour ago for a couple of different references that I never was able to get working). • Unable to run JAR file (created in Eclipse)

  I hate starting a post with this but I'm new to Java... I've followed this tutorial to create a socket server (mines in Eclipse). I can run the server within Eclipse, all is well. But when I try to export the project I can't figure out how to run it. I keep getting this error (it varies depending on how I run it) Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: xsocketserver/Main Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: xsocketserver.Main at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(URLClassLoader.java:200) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at java.net.URLClassLoader.findClass(URLClassLoader.java:188) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:315) at sun.misc.Launcher$AppClassLoader.loadClass(Launcher.java:330) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:250) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClassInternal(ClassLoader.java:398) I've read this problem relates to class paths being set. I've tried the following: java -cp libs/xSocket-2.8.12.jar xsocketserver.Main java -jar xSocketServer.jar java -classpath xSocketServer:xSocketServer/libs/xSocket-2.8.12.jar xsocketserver.Main plus many others. The file structure within the JAR is as follows: xSocketServer.jar -> xsocketserver -> Main.class -> xSocketDataHandler.class -> META-INF -> MANIFEST.MF -> libs -> xSocket-2.8.12.jar Incidentally I've tried adding my own manifest file which contains the Class-Path but when I check it it always reads: Manifest-Version: 1.0 Main-Class: xsocketserver.Main I'm guessing this is a common problem based on the number of hits I've seen in Google but I can't fathom what I'm doing wrong. Wrong Export settings maybe??

• Duplicate information from sql result

  I looked in about 18 other posts on here an most people are asking how to delete the records not just hide them. So my problem: I have a database with staff members who are associated with locations. Many of the staff members are associated with more than one location. What I want to do is to only display the first location listed in the mysql result and skip over the others. I have the sql query linking the tables together and it works aside from it showing the same information for those staff members that are in those other locations multiple times so example would be like this: This is the sql statement I have currently SELECT staff_tbl.staffID, staff_tbl.firstName, staff_tbl.middleInitial, staff_tbl.lastName, location_tbl.locationID, location_tbl.staffID, officelocations_tbl.locationID, officelocations_tbl.officeName, staff_title_tbl.title_ID, staff_title_tbl.staff_ID, titles_tbl.titleID, titles_tbl.titleName FROM staff_tbl INNER JOIN location_tbl ON location_tbl.staffID = staff_tbl.staffID INNER JOIN officelocations_tbl ON location_tbl.locationID = officelocations_tbl.locationID INNER JOIN staff_title_tbl ON staff_title_tbl.staff_ID = staff_tbl.staffID INNER JOIN titles_tbl ON staff_title_tbl.title_ID = titles_tbl.titleID and my php is <?php do { ?> <tr> <td><?php echo $row_rs_Staff_Info['firstName']; ?>&nbsp; <?php echo $row_rs_Staff_Info['lastName']; ?></td> <td><?php echo $row_rs_Staff_Info['titleName']; ?>&nbsp; </td> <td><?php echo $row_rs_Staff_Info['officeName']; ?>&nbsp; </td> </tr> <?php } while ($row_mysqlResult = mysql_fetch_assoc($rs_mysqlResult)); ?> What I would like to know is there a way using php to select only the first entry listed for each person and display that and just skip over the other two. Currently I am having this code : for($i = 0; $i < count($array[0]); $i++) { for($j = 0; $j < count($array[1]); $j++) { for($k = 0; $k < count($array[2]); $k++) { echo $array[0][$i].$array[1][$j].$array[2][$k].'<br/>'; } } } It works, but I think it is ugly, and when I am adding more arrays, I have to add more for. In this idea, the task is: create a image from a JPEG and remove the white background, than create another image from another JPEG, than create the final image by adding the second as a background, and copying the first one over this background preserving the transparent area created, of course. How do I do that without pointer? • Difference between SET autocommit=1 and START TRANSACTION in mysql (Have I missed something?)

  Hey there, I am reading up on transactions in mysql and am not sure whether I have grasped something specific correctly, and I want to be sure I understood that correctly, so here goes. I know what a transaction is supposed to do, I'm just not sure whether I understood the statement semantics or not. So, my question is, is anything wrong, (and, if that is the case, what is wrong) with the following: By default, autocommit mode is enabled in mysql. Now, SET autocommit=0; will begin a transaction, SET autocommit=1; will implicitly commit. It is possible to COMMIT; as well as ROLLBACK;, in both of which cases autocommit is still set to 0 afterwards (and a new transaction is implicitly started). START TRANSACTION; will basically SET autocommit=0; until a COMMIT; or ROLLBACK; takes place. In other words, START TRANSACTION; and SET autocommit=0; are equivalent, except for the fact that START TRANSACTION; does the equivalent of implicitly adding a SET autocommit=0; after COMMIT; or ROLLBACK; If that is the case, I don't understand http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/en/set-transaction.html#isolevel_serializable - seeing as having an isolation level implies that there is a transaction, meaning that autocommit should be off anyway? And if there is another difference (other than the one described above) between beginning a transaction and setting autocommit, what is it? Thanks a lot in advance for your help!

• How to change the default branch to push in mercurial?

  I like creating named branches in Mercurial to deal with features that might take a while to code, so when I push I do a hg push -r default to insure I'm only pushing changes to the default branch. However, it is a pain to have to remember -r default every since time I do do a push or outgoing command. So I tried fix this by adding this config to my ~/.hgrc: [defaults] push = push -r default outgoing = outgoing -r default The problem is, those config lines are not really defaults, they are aliases. They work as intended until I try to do a hg push -r <some revision>. And the "default" I've setup just obliterates the revision I passed in. (I see that defaults are deprecated, but aliases have the same problem). I tried looking around, but I can't find anything that will allow me to set a default branch to push AND allow me to override it when necessary. Anyone know of something else I could do? ps: I do realize that I could have separate clones for each branch, but I would rather not do that. It's annoying to have to switch directories, particularly when you have shared configuration or editor workspaces.

• Accessing global variables in a flash[:notice]

  This is deals_controller.rb. And it works like this, except two things. Not sure how to call Deal.count to add in my flash[:notice] . I get the hunch that its not calling something global. I need that contional statement back, as I'm pretty sure its responsible for actually adding the new @deal . So I assume my syntax is off. • Processing JSON data with jQuery - strange results needing alert()

  I have this code below. I randomly ran across that it will work if I have that alert message exactly where it is. If I take it out or move it to any other spot the tabs will not appear. What exactly is that alert doing that allows the code to work and how can I make it work without the alert?
