• LEFT OUTER JOIN in NHibernate with SQL semantics

  Hi, Is it possible to use HQL/ICritera to produce a query with the same semantics as the following SQL query: select table1.A, table2.B, count(*) from table1 left join (select table2.parent_id, table2.B from table2 where table2.C = 'Some value') as table2 on table2.parent_id = table1.id group by table1.A, table2.B order by table1.A In particular, what I'd like is to receive rows (that is, objects) from table1 that have no matching rows in table2. However, I only get the rows from table1 that have matches in table2. Is this the meaning of 'LEFT JOIN' in HQL? And if so, how can I get it to join on a subquery? Tnx.

• can i change membership provider GetAllUsers method?

  Hi i am using vb.net and the .net membership provider. i want to bring back a gridview with user account information, like GetAllUsers() does. However i want to only bring back users with certain profile information, that will be users whos profile information matches the selected value in a dropdownlist on the same page. I am using profile provider to record just one extra piece of user information. Can i change or override the GetAllUsers method for this? Adding an extra parameter so its GetAllUsers by Profile. Membership has a FindUsersByName method, i want to do something similar with users by Profile. I am very much a noob with .net programming so i hope i have explained this ok.

• How to terminate all [grand]child processes using C# on WXP (and newer MSWindows)

  Question: How can I determine all processes in the child's Process Tree to kill them? I have an application, written in C# that will: Get a set of data from the server, Spawn a 3rd party utility to process the data, then Return the results to the server. This is working fine. But since a run consumes a lot of CPU and may take as long as an hour, I want to add the ability to have my app terminate its child processes. Some issues that make the simple solutions I've found elsewhere are: My app's child process "A" (InstallAnywhere EXE I think) spawns the real processing app "B" (a java.exe), which in turns spawns more children "C1".."Cn" (most of which are also written in Java). There will likely be multiple copies of my application (and hence, multiple sets of its children) running on the same machine. The child process is not in my control so there might be some "D" processes in the future. My application must run on 32-bit and 64-bit versions of MSWindows. On the plus side there is no issue of data loss, a "clean" shutdown doesn't matter as long as the processes end fairly quickly.

• Drupal join on taxonomy terms

  I have a Drupal setup like this: Content type: Apartments Vocabulary: Areas, that can be used with Apartments. Content type: User profile, with a Content Taxonomy Field for Areas so users can select what areas they are interested in. I would like a view that shows all the user profiles that matches the apartments in their area. A "User profile <- Areas <- Apartments" join in other words. I've been mucking around with the views interface for a while but it's not clear to me how the relations can be setup to achieve this. Can someone give me a hint? In case this cannot be easily solved with views, what is a good way of doing it otherwise? Thanks for your help.

  Hi, I am using MVVM to show the database records in a gridview (ListView view). i have a textbox where we can enter the text to be searched in the results listed in the gridview. i tried many ways to highlight the search text (Not the entire row only the text matches in the record) in the records displayed in the list view but unable to highlight. i am able to find the starting and ending indexes. i tried to created rectangles using those indexes on the text block but unable to highlight. • Architectural conundrum

  The worst thing when working on a one man project is the lack of input that you usually get from your coworkers. And because of the lack of that you tend to make obvious mistakes. After going down that road for some time I would need some help from the community. I started a little home-brew project that should turn into a portal of some sorts. And the main thing that is bothering me is the persistence layer that i have concocted. It should be completely separated from the presentation layer for starters and a OR mapper is also somewhere. This is because I have multiple data stores that have to be used. So the base idea was that the individual "repositories" operate each on their individual database and that the business layer then aggregates the business objects which are then transformed in the presentation layer into view objects. The main problem I face is the following: Multiple classes for the same concept - There is a DAL representation of a user and BL representation of user and a view representation of a user. I can handle the transformation with a tool but is this really the right way. I mean they are all nicely separated, but the overhead is quite something. What do you think? Am I going too deep into the separation of concern rabbit hole or is this still normal?

  Currently I have a sql call returning a dataset from a MSSQL database and I want to take a column from that data and return ID's based off that column from the ORACLE database. I can do this one at a time but that requires multiple calls, I am wondering if this can be done with one call. String sql=String.Format(@"Select DIST_NO FROM DISTRICT WHERE DIST_DESC = '{0}'", row.Table.Rows[0]["Op_Centre"].ToString()); Above is the string I am using to return one ID at a time. I know the {0} can be used to format your value into the string and maybe there is a way to do that with a datatable. Also to use multiple values in the where clause it would be: String sql=String.Format(@"Select DIST_NO FROM DISTRICT WHERE DIST_DESC in ('{0}')", row.Table.Rows[0] ["Op_Centre"].ToString()); Although I realize all of this can be done I am wondering if theres an easy way to add it all to the sql string in one call. As I am writing this I am realizing I could break the string into sections then just add every row value to the SQL string within the "WHERE DIST_DESC IN (" clause... I am still curious to see if there is another way though, and because someone else may come across this problem I will post a solution if I develop one. Thanks in advance.

• Internal bug tracking tickets - Redmine, Trac, or JIRA

  I've been looking at setting up Redmine, Trac, or JIRA to track issues. I want to be able to have my development team create internal tickets that are never seen by clients, while clients can create/edit tickets that are seen by the internal team. From the Trac documentation, you can set permissions to create or view tickets, but it doesn't seem to allow for viewing only certain tickets. It may be possible with Trac Fine Grained Permissions, but doesn't appear so. The Redmine documentation mentions: Define your own roles and set their permissions in a click but doesn't appear to have the level of granularity. From the JIRA documentation: At the moment JIRA is only able to support security at a project level or issue level. Currently there is no field level security available. According to this question, Redmine doesn't support internal tickets, so you would have to use multiple projects. I don't want a situation where I would have to create multiple projects - one internal, one external and have the external tickets brought into the internal repository. It seems as this would lead to unnecessary overhead and inevitably, the projects wouldn't be in sync. Is there any way with any of these products (possibly through a plug-in if not in the core product itself) to specify these permissions, or simplify having two projects with different users and permissions that must still share information?

• JQuery Autocomplete only suggesting first row

  I'm doing research using JQuery's Autocomplete plugin and Google Maps' API. What I have so far is located here. I'm using Asp.net MVC to generate the list of potential address matches (limited to US addresses only) and presenting them as a pipe-delimeted list to Autocomplete, which is supposed to be .spliting them up and suggesting them to the user. The problem I'm having (besides a stubborn IE-only javascript error, which I'll break into another question), is that only the first result is suggested. This page clearly shows two results, yet typing "3118" into the textbox produces only the Galax Dr result. How can I get Automplete to produce both results?

• R how to find NA values after using addNA function

  I have a data frame with a bunch of categorical variables. Some of them contain NA's and I use the addNA function to convert them to an explicit factor level. My problem comes when I try to treat them as NA's they don't seem to register. • Scala: Can I nudge a combinator parser to be locally greedy?

  Suppose I have an ambiguous language expressed in combinator parser. Is there a way to make certain expressions locally greedy? • Rails 3.1 assets not recognizing new images uploaded by rmagick until server restart

  I have my Rails 3.1.0 application running with passenger in production environment and I have a section where the application allows the user to change his profile picture so I upload the image using an ajax uploader and in my controller I upload the file and generate different sizes for the image with rmagick then I render the new image with an image_tag but the application won't show the image till I restart the server. What I get is No route matches [GET] "assets/path/to/image.png" If I restart the server It will show the image, but obviously I can't be restarting the server every once a user uploads a new image. How can I solve the keeping the assets working the right way?

• Getting an empty response when calling CouchDB over ajax

  I'm new to CouchDB, so please bear with me. I have an instance of CouchDB running on a VM. I can access it just fine through the browser via futon or directly at: http://192.168.62.128:5984/articles/hot_dog Calling that URL in a browser returns the proper JSON. But, when I try to call that exact same URL via ajax, I get nothing: var ajaxUrl = 'http://192.168.62.128:5984/articles/hot_dog'; $.getJSON(ajaxUrl, null, function(data) { alert(data); }); Looking at the response header with Firebug shows me that the HTTP response was 200 and the content-length is the right size. Even the Etag matches with what is in CouchDB. But the response itself is empty! The URL is absolutely right; I've triple checked, and copy/pasted it directly (and besides it wouldn't give a 200 response if it weren't). I'm using jQuery 1.4.2, and CouchDB 0.8 What's going on?

• Json HTTP Module stream issue

  Hey, I have an HTTP Module that I use to clean up the JSON returned by my web service (see http://www.codeproject.com/KB/webservices/ASPNET_JSONP.aspx?msg=3400287#xx3400287xx for an example of this.) Basically it relates to calling cross-domain JSON web services from javascript. There is this JsonHttpModule which uses a JsonResponseFilter Stream class to write out the JSON and the overloaded Write method is supposed to wrap the name of the callback function around the JSON, otherwise the JSON errors out as needing a label. However, if the JSON is really long, the Write method in the Stream class is called multiple times, causing the callback function to incorrectly get inserted midway through the JSON. Is there a way in the Stream class to wrap the callback function around the stream at the end or to specify that it write all of the JSON in 1 Write method instead of in chunks?? • MySql Query lag time / deadlock?

  When there are multiple PHP scripts running in parallel, each making an UPDATE query to the same record in the same table repeatedly, is it possible for there to be a 'lag time' before the table is updated with each query? I have basically 5-6 instances of a PHP script running in parallel, having been launched via cron. Each script gets all the records in the items table, and then loops through them and processes them. However, to avoid processing the same item more than once, I store the id of the last item being processed in a seperate table. So this is how my code works: function getCurrentItem() { $sql = "SELECT currentItemId from settings"; $result = $this->db->query($sql); return $result->get('currentItemId'); } function setCurrentItem($id) { $sql = "UPDATE settings SET currentItemId='$id'"; $this->db->query($sql); } $currentItem = $this->getCurrentItem(); $sql = "SELECT * FROM items WHERE status='pending' AND id > $currentItem'"; $result = $this->db->query($sql); $items = $result->getAll(); foreach ($items as $i) { //Check if $i has been processed by a different instance of the script, and if so, //leave it untouched. if ($this->getCurrentItem() > $i->id) continue; $this->setCurrentItem($i->id); // Process the item here } But despite of all the precautions, most items are being processed more than once. Which makes me think that there is some lag time between the update queries being run by the PHP script, and when the database actually updates the record. Is it true? And if so, what other mechanism should I use to ensure that the PHP scripts always get only the latest currentItemId even when there are multiple scripts running in parrallel? Would using a text file instead of the db help?

  Hi fellow Umbraco users, I'm currently building my first umbraco website and since I'm completely new to umbraco I've already ran into a problem which I'm sure is pretty straight-forward to do. That said, I'm by no means a beginner when it comes to building sites that run on a (open source) CMS as I've been using Joomla! since it was called Mambo. Anyway, the site I'm building is here: my site What I want to do is to have some content in the white box that changes when you mouseover/hover one of the menu items. Also that content has to stay "active" when you've clicked on a link (i.e. if you click on "Profile" I need to highlight the Profile menu item with the gray color and the white boxs content needs to be what would be related to the Profile menu item. How do I go about this? What would be the best practice when it comes to showing multiple content on a site? I've watched the video about multiple Content Place Holders, but I never really got it to work. I can't get a page to display in the NavigationPlaceHolder (the placeholder I put in the white box), but thats because the actual page is Frontpage.aspx and not WhateverIsInThenavigationPlaceHolder.aspx. If I go to the mysite.dk/WhateverIsInTheNavigationPlaceHolder.aspx it shows up fine. What have I missed here? :) Thanks in advance!   I am using a NSPredicate to determine if an entered email address is valid. On 10.6 it works perfectly as expected. I recently decided to get my app going on 10.5 and this is the only thing that doesn't work. The error i get is as follows: "Can't do regex matching, reason: Can't open pattern U_MALFORMED_SET (string [email protected], pattern ([\w-+]+(?:\.[\w-+]+)*@(?:[\w-]+\.)+[a-zA-Z]{2,7}), case 0, canon 0)" The code im using is as follows: NSString *regex = @"([\\w-+]+(?:\\.[\\w-+]+)*@(?:[\\w-]+\\.)+[a-zA-Z]{2,7})"; NSPredicate *regextest = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"SELF MATCHES %@", regex]; if ([regextest evaluateWithObject:[userEmail objectValue]] == YES) Does anyone know why this isn't working on 10.5? • Which is better Java programming practice for looping up to an int value: a converted for-each loop

  Hi folks, Given the need to loop up to an arbitrary int value, is it better programming practice to convert the value into an array and for-each the array, or just use a traditional for loop? FYI, I am calculating the number of 5 and 6 results ("hits") in multiple throws of 6-sided dice. My arbitrary int value is the dicePool which represents the number of multiple throws. As I understand it, there are two options: Convert the dicePool into an array and for-each the array: public int calcHits(int dicePool) { int[] dp = new int[dicePool]; for (Integer a : dp) { // call throwDice method } } Use a traditional for loop. public int calcHits(int dicePool) { for (int i = 0; i < dicePool; i++) { // call throwDice method } } I apologise for the poor presentation of the code above (for some reason the code button on the Ask Question page is not doing what it should). My view is that option 1 is clumsy code and involves unnecessary creation of an array, even though the for-each loop is more efficient than the traditional for loop in Option 2.   We have the following piece of code (idea for this code was found on this website) which will spawn new threads for the method "Do_SomeWork()". This enables us to run the method multiple times asynchronously. The question is how can we modify the above code to make use of ThreadPool keeping in mind that the method "Do_SomeWork" takes multiple parameters and also has a return type (i.e. method is not void).
