  So, I just installed the node.js package from nodejs.org and I was poking around to see what it installed. Over in /usr/local/bin I saw this owner 24561. I see it in a few other places too. What is this? What does it mean? • Perl script segfaulting after 64-bit upgrade

  I recently upgraded a 32-bit Debian server to 64-bit by re-installing, and copying my data into place. After this I have a perl script that repeats the following, and is segfaulting on the tell line: seek(FIN,$ps,0); tell(FIN, $ps); $line=<FIN>; I don't speak perl, so I'm not sure exactly what is going on here. I can get the script to run (apparently successfully) by commenting every occurrence of tell, but this is obviously not the best solution. I suspect that tell is calling a 32-bit binary or something, and that is the cause of the segfault - but I don't know. Can someone explain what tell does, and if it is indeed a separate binary, what package it belongs to (or how it is installed ie. cpan)? Or perhaps I am on the wrong track?

  Hi, I'm using ubuntu 8.10. I want to do benchmarking using autobench. I could install httperf by the command sudo apt-get install httperf I thought I should be installing autobench in the same way using apt-get. But the package was not found. Can anybody please suggest me what should I be doing in order make this "autobench" command work for me in ubuntu? Any help in this regard will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

• systemctl enable differs from systemctl start, how?

  I am running an Arch Linux (latest, up-to-date) box, and attempting to get MySQL to start at boot. • How to Install Python 2.6 on Fedora 8?

  I don't want to use Fedora 8. I would be very happy to use the newest version, but there is no choice. My problem is that 8 comes with python 2.5. I am trying to upgrade it to 2.6, but with no luck. The only caveat is that I don't want to just install directly from source. I want to do it through the package manager using an rpm. I have tried building my own rpm from source using rpmbuild. I have tried using src rpms from newer versions of Fedora. I've tried these CentOS instructions. Nothing seems to actually result in an rpm file that installs successfully. I have also tried extensive Google searching, and have been unsurprisingly unable to find any rpms that work, or working instructions to build my own rpm.

• libvirt + ESX (HTTP response code 400 for call to 'Login')

  I'm trying to connect to a vSphere cluster using the information from the libvirt documentation. $ virsh -c "vpx://[email protected]/dc1/dc1-cluster-e01/dc1-vsphere-e04/?no_verify=1" Enter root's password for 10.51.4.11: error: internal error HTTP response code 400 for call to 'Login' error: failed to connect to the hypervisor I seem to be able to establish a connection, but it fails with a "HTTP code 400". If I provide the incorrect password it fails with a 'login credentials' error, so it looks like I am getting a connection, but it's failing for another reason. Wireshark is no help as it's all done over SSL/TLS. Any thoughts folks? UPDATE: 15:21 28/02/11 FYI - I'm running libvirt-0.8.3 (the Ubuntu package recompiled with the ESX flag enabled). • Yum install problem on netsolvps server

  I tried to install yum based on http://www.wallpaperama.com/forums/how-to-install-yum-problems-installing-on-linux-redhat-fedora-commands-t471.html. my current python is 2.4.6, red hot fedora core 6, 4.1.1-28, RPM 4.4.2. I tried with the yum 3.0.1 version for my current server configuration. There is no configure file on 3.0.1 so i used make install command. All files complied without error. If I run #rpm -q yum it says "package yum is not installed". Whats the problem here on the yum installation?

• Strange failure audit in 2003 R2 X64 SP2

  our server is running 2003 R2 X64 SP2, we keep seeing this in clusters of around 4 rapid fire. Sometimes 2 hours, sometimes around 8 hours apart with slight variations. I am also seeing the same blank username and domain in an account locked out message, I have tried disabling all scheduled tasks, if anyone has any idea please let me know!   I haven't been able to use the "clear scr" command in a while, as I get the following error: root@server:~# clear The program 'clear' is currently not installed.   Hello, I try to install Mesa 7.8 for CentOS 5. During installation of Mesa I required to install librdm, and during librdm (v. 2.4.19) installing I got error about missing pthread-stubs: checking for PTHREADSTUBS... configure: error: Package requirements (pthread-stubs) were not met: When I try: yum provides *pthread-stubs* I get nothing In other place I found that libxcb-devel is what I need, but yum not find this too. During searching in Google, I found rpm's for Fedora only. Any one know whether there is some packege which provides pthread-stubs for CentOS, or other, less expensive way to install Mesa?   since some days I try to get freenx (CentOS package 0.7.3) running under CentOS 6.3. It is like found on many websites: First login is successfull, after that all login attempts fail with the negotiation error. A simple ssh with the same username to the server is successful. For the installation I followed the howTo on http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/FreeNX Strange is that the changelog of FreeNX 0.7.3 tells that this bug was fixed. Has anybody been successful in running FreeNX under CentOS without this problem and knows how to fix it? Frank

• Should I replace libapache2-mod-php5-filter with libapache2-mod-php5 on Debian 6 Apache 2.2.16?

  Upgrading various virtual machines we are having an issue with the Debian package upgrade to version 2.2.16 The upgrade (surprisingly) seems to remove libapache2-mod-php5 replacing it with libapache2-mod-php5-filter. This gave us some headache as the php.ini was pointing to the "old" one and some of the apache.conf conditional module rules stopped working. We can fix all those but we can't figure out if there would be any issues if we just "reversed" this and simply install libapache2-mod-php5 again and load that module instead of the "filter" one or in there is anyway to "alias" a module. I tend to think that the change "has a reason" but after reading apache2 and php5: module or filter I understand the module differences are to do with post delivery security issues.

• ATI Driver for HP Pavilion dv2 notebook?

  I'm looking for a Windows XP Professional (32-bit) ATI video driver for an HP Pavilion dv2 (model 1118nr). I've downloaded and run several drivers packages, but none have worked so far. The notebook has a sticker on it that reads, "ATI Radeon Premium Graphics 3000 Series" The notebook has an AMD Athlon Neo 64 CPU and it came with Vista 64, but I have a requirement to run 32-bit Windows XP. Does such a driver exist, and if so, where is it? I've tried the AMD ATI graphics drivers portal, but the "Mobility Radeon" section does not list the 3000 series. The "Radeon" section does list the 3000 series, but the package I downloaded and installed from there was not helpful. I also selected "All Graphics - Notebook" on the "Search Drivers and Downloads" page, then selected "Windows XP Professional/Home" on the OS drop down, pressed "Submit", and downloaded and installed the only choice (this single choice is listed twice), but again, it didn't seem to help.

• Preparing computers for remote MSI installation in NT4 domain

  We recently purchased EMCO Remote Installer to deploy MSI packages we're creating. We are still (unfortunately) in an NT4 domain, and when I try to deploy a package using domain's administrator credentials I'm getting "access denied". Under the "requirements for remote computers" section on the EMCO website (http://www.emco.is/products/remote-installer/requirements.php), it says that it requires remote machines to have: * Started services: Computer Browser, Remote Registry * File and Printer sharing enabled * Windows Installer 3.1 * TCP ports opened: 135, 139, 445 * UDP ports opened: 137, 138 Is there any way of scripting these changes? If so, could someone get me started? I have about 200 machines I need to get this working with. Thanks for all your help!!

• Remote Yum mirror

  I have a bunch of remote computers that must be updated to the most recent packages for RedHat 4 and RedHat 5. I am using mrepo to mirror the RHN packages, however the remote computers do not have an internet connection. Because of this I have to update the mirror server that is part of the remote computers with a dvd. This is to cut down shipping costs to just a dvd. I am attempting to script this so I can fit all of the new packages on a CD or a DVD. I send updates about once or twice a month depending on package requirements. So my question is, is their a good method to do this so that the only things transferred are the new packages? I wish I could just use rsync. Thanks.

• Creating a bootable external drive in OSX

  I want to do some slightly dangerous testing, testing an install package I've written, so I've got an external drive, and I want to make it a bootable OSX disk, then I can boot up on the external, do my install, and if it screws things up, it doesn't actually affect the usability of my machine. The problem is that when I stick the disk that came with my computer (It's actually another computer in the office, but they're both minis) in and try to run the installer, it says "You cannot install OSx 10.6 on this computer". Now, the computer is ALREADY running 10.6, so that's a kind of silly error message... It does this when I boot to the DVDRom as well. Am I doing something really really dumb? or what?

• Why cant I get 3 monitors working with my ati 5770

  I have an ati 5770, card with vga, dvi and hdmi output. I can only get 2 out of the 3 monitors working at once, however i can change the configuation so that all monitors can be selected, but only 2 will work at once.. 2 of my monitors have dvi inputs and one has vga. in my catyalist control center it shows all 3 monitors are there but either 2 can be selected at a time, and so the same with my windows 7. I have and adapter which i use on the 3rd monitor, hdmi-dvi adaptor and it works. also when i boot up my pc i get 2 monitors booting up and when windows starts the 3rd monitor boots but the 1st one closes. I looked at my package box and it actualy does specify ati eyefinity technology is available with this card. why wont it work???

  I am currently running Xampp for a dev server on Windows 7. It has Apache, PHP,MySQL and some other stuff all in one simple exe package for windows and works great. My version currently has PHP version 5.2.9 and the new version of Xampp comes with PHP 5.3.1 I would like to use the newer PHP but I do not want to update everything else. So how would I install the newest version of PHP in windows? Also on the Xampp page there is another extension download for Tomcat 6.0.20 I am not sure what Tomcat does can someone explain?

• Multiple Subnets on home network... would this work?

  We are looking at renting out the basement suit in our home and want to offer internet as part of the package. I however do not want the downstairs tennent to have access to our network (home office = private data). We currently have a pfsense firewall as our gateway and a Windows Server 2003 box is doing our primary DHCP (192.168.0.0/24) and DNS. Here's what I'd like to do... I'd like to setup another subnet on the DHCP server (192.168.1.0/24), and hook in another wireless router (as access point only) and address it as 192.168.1.1... from there the router will hook into our primary switch and then out through the firewall. Will Server 2003 (If I add a 192.168.1.x/24 IP to the nic) serve DHCP to the devices that connect to the new router, and will it isolate that from our network? Thanks in advance... I'm very new to multiple subnets.
