• Having trouble with EPSON Stylus SX130 scanner

  I am trying to scan files with an EPSON Stylus SX130 on windows 7 x64. When i plug in the printer, windows automatically find drivers for printing, but not for scanning. So i go to the manufacturer website to download the drivers, select windows 7 64-bit and download drivers for EPSON Scan. The install works fine, but when i try to scan a file (eg: from paint or Windows fax and scan), the folowing message pops up and freezes the application : the progress bar plays the animation forever and the application does not respond. I then have no choice to kill the application with the task manager. Do you have an idea of what's going on ? How can i fix the problem, ie: how do i get the scanner actually scan files without freezing ? I tried to install the driver from the CD given in the printer package, and got the same problem. • Getting kernel errors when manually mounting VirtualBox shared folders

  Updated: I've rephrased this problem as I understand it a bit more now (and have encountered another problem). I'm using a Fedora 15 guest on a Windows 7 host using VirtualBox. I am trying to mount a partition on the host PC as a shared folder for use in the guest. The folder appears in /media and is accessible when I use the auto-mount feature when setting up the shared folder, but when I attempt to mount without auto-mount I get the following error: $ sudo mount.vboxsf data /mnt/host_data /sbin/mount.vboxsf: Could not add an entry to the mount table.: Invalid argument In addition a popup appears (part of Fedora/GNOME) reporting a crash in the kernel package: WARNING: at lib/list_debug.c:26 __list_add+0x3e/0x81() However the shared folder seems to work, I can certainly browse it (although everything seems to be executable, probably down to a Windows host). Is there something wrong with what I'm doing or is this a bug (and in which case should it be reported to the Linux Kernel team or VirtualBox)?

  Just a few questions that I just can't find anywhere about migrating to XtraDB. My group has been using MyISAM dbs for production and was wondering how hard is it to migrate to Percona's XtraDB and how would you go about doing so? Would I have to migrate MyISAM to InnoDB first or can I go straight to XtraDB? I installed Percona Server with XtraDB package on my Fedora machine but the documentation isn't very helpful as to how to use it so I was wondering does Percona just piggyback on a standard MySQL installation or is it a separate entity? • How to build compass in sublime text 2

  I downloaded this package which allows use to build compass in though sublime text by pressing cmd+b. I created a sass file, made sure compass is selected from the tools build system compass menu. But when I press cmd+b the file does not compile and I get no error. I only get [Finished in 0.0s with exit code 1]. However I also tested to build the code with sass (tools build system sass) and it works fine. Do I need to do anything to the sass file for compass to work. Thanks

  I've been asked to move data from an old external hard drive to a new one, and to make the new one compatible with the Macintosh. (The old drive's USB connection has died, and I'm connecting to old the drive using a PC card that provieds an eSATA to the drive. The recipient's Macintosh doesn't have a PC card slot, so she can't access the old drive anymore. Hence, the new drive.) Naturally, I'm doing this data transfer using Linux. I've discovered that I can format the drive as HFS+ using mkfs.hfsplus from the hfsprogs package. But I need to know: do I need to do anything special with the partition table? Is there a special Macintosh partition table format that I need to format this disk to? If so, what tools can I use to get the right format for the partition table?

I have read some articles, and they have been helpful, but not complete. The following is what I have gleaned are the steps I need to take: Commission a computer to be the server with Windows 2003 Server. Install the WSUS package(s) and select the type of updates to check for. Configure the rest of my computers to be clients of this server. Set the clients to receive updates from the server. My questions are as follows: Does the server have to run Windows 2003 Server, or will Windows XP Professional work? Where do I download the WSUS packages from? • Steam app and age verification issue

  I have OSX 10.9.4 with the Steam App (API v016 and package versions 1407966480) installed. When I would visit game pages that required age verification, my birthday would be filled in due to being logged in and I would just click OK to move past. Now the age verification shows up with January 1st, 2014 each time and it will not let me change the date. The drop down menus just show up blank. I have tried to log out of my computer, log out of Steam, restart Steam, restart my computer, and reinstall Steam. Nothing has worked and it continues to have this issue. When I visit the Steam website, the age verification drop downs work just fine. What is causing this issue? And/or how can I fix this issue?

• Website: Requested filename being rewritten

  I have been unable to find an answer via search. I have a website (I do not administer the servers) where the server will serve a different file than the one requested. I first noticed this when using a filename of the following form: _foo.php (single underscore) If I request foo.php (does not exist), the server returns _foo.php. By "returns" I mean that the server decides I meant _foo.php, processes the php file, and serves the output. If I request afoo.php, zfoo.php, or even __foo.php (two underscores) (these files do not exist) the server returns _foo.php. If I request aafoo.php, the server returns 404. To sum up: the server seems to be doing a partial filename match. My question is: what is happening and is this accepted behavior for a web server (or standard behavior of a common mod/package/etc)?

• Connecting PPTP VPN with Ubuntu 9.10

  I have an ubuntu machine that I wish to connect to a VPN and have traffic routed through that. So far I have installed the pptp-linux package and tried my hand at configuring it manually as well as using pptpsetup. I am using Ubuntu 9.10, but regardless of the method I get "Couldn't find MPPE kernel support". Searching a bit for the problem seems to reveal that Ubuntu DOES come with MPPE kernel support (and has done for quite some time). If anyone can figure this out, you'd be a real lifesaver!

Witch now have resulted in the server being totally trashed, there are so many different kinds of the same program install that anything doesn’t work.   I have a 500 GB USB-disk which has been used as a backup device for a few years now, but now fails without telling me why. This is a Dell box with Intel USB-controllers (so the NVIDEA problem does not apply here). I have previously had problems with a Git package marking a non-existent directory for backup (adding it make the backup succeede). The inaccessible boot partition problem described in Windows Backup fails with 0x80070002: "The system cannot find the file specified" does not apply to me. I would appreciate hints on where to look to identify why my backup fails so I can fix it.

• Problem with creating table on phpMyAdmin database

  Hello all, I'm running a phpMyAdmin Database on my web package on a 1and1-hosted server. I've managed to set up a database in the control panel, have uploaded all to root/phpmyadmin and changed the config.ini.php file to point at 1and1's database server (because that's the way they do it). I can go to the web interface and get to the main page, but all it shows is the database name and I can't find how to create any tables. I know it's a long shot but I'm almost out of ideas. Also, 1and1 have their own phpmyadmin panel, which is pretty annoying to use, and a 1and1 webdatabase which I have barely looked at. Help and suggestions much appriciated.

• What are the requirements for gettings django translations to work?

  Hi, I am hosting several djangosites on a CentOS 5 box. But I'm having difficulties with translations. So first i had to upgrade the gettext package from 0.14 to 0.16, but that didn't help. Now i can make and compile tranlsations files with the managment commands, but the translations does not show. I am sure that the translation files are located at the right place since they work with the same setup on a local installation, and django's own translation files does not work. (e.g the admin is not translated). What could i be missing in my server setup that makes this happen?

• Okular (on Ubuntu 9.10) prints multiple pages per sheet (n-up) very small

  I'm trying to print a set of beamer slides with multiple slides per page (4-up or 6-up). When I select 4 pages or 6 pages per sheet in the Okular print dialog, the pages print quite small (perhaps even tiny -- about 1.75" by 1.25") and leave significant white-space on the page. I can get around this behavior by using the pdfnup utility (in the pdfjam package); which will correctly generate a 4- or 6-up pdf file but it's annoying to generate a second pdf file when I should be able to accomplish this task from the print dialog. Details: Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic), 64-bit, Color Postscript printer.

• Sendmail Alias for Nonlocal Email Account

  I admin a server which is running a number of web applications for a software dev team (source control, bug tracking, etc). The server has sendmail running solely as a transport to the departmental email server over which I have no control. We have someone who is still in the department but no longer on the dev team so I need to configure the transport agent to redirect all outgoing email (which would be coming from these applications) to the person that has taken their place. I added an entry in /etc/aliases like such: [email protected]: [email protected] But when I run /etc/init.d/sendmail newaliases I get the following error: /etc/mail/aliases: line 32: [email protected]... cannot alias non-local names So clearly I'm doing something I shouldn't. Is there a way to get aliases to work with non-local names or alternatively is their a way to accomplish my goal of redirecting outgoing mail for this user to another one? Technical Specs if the matter: Ubuntu 6.06 sendmail 8.13 (ubuntu provided package)

  I have a Macbook Pro at work and installed the current VirtualBox (3.2.4) today. However, after using the VHD image for IE 7 on XP SP3 on this: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=21eabb90-958f-4b64-b5f1-73d0a413c8ef&displaylang=en The Virtual Operating System (XP) just thought there is no network card provided by the PC (the virtual PC simulated by VirtualBox), even if I set up 4 network cards in Settings, as NAT, host only, etc. So the XP cannot browse any webpage at all... Does any integration package need to be added for VirtualBox to make it work and how? (is VirtualBox providing a "too advanced" network card so XP SP3 doesn't have the driver for it? thanks.
