• Issues with ForceBindIP on Windows 7 (x64)

  I am desperately needing a solution to binding certain applications to specific network interfaces. ForceBindIP seems to be my only solution. Although the website claims it works up to XP, Google says that many users running 7 have had it work successfully. I have UAC disabled, yet still: Does anyone know why this is happening? If not, does anyone know a viable alternative to ForceBindIP? I'm a gamer and I'm addictively trying to torrent on a secondary connection while playing games online.

• Windows 7 locked out account

  I have a Win7 x64 computer. There was only one account (mine, created at installation, password protected, full administrative access with UAC enabled). To speed up the startup + login process I went to control userpasswords2 and unchecked that users need to enter password. By this operation my account has been changed to Guest type and an Administrator account has been created. This Administrator account has a small overlay icon with a downwards pointing arrow. My original password did not work; if I try leaving the password blank it says something like "Your account has been disabled. Contact your administrator." Contacting myself surprisingly did not help. As my account (which I am still able to access) is Guest, I have no rights to do anything. Is there a way to get my access back without reinstalling?

• Add Thunderbird to Firefox as a feed subscriber application in windows

  I'm trying to get Thunderbird to be my default application to subscribe to feed that I visit in firefox. I "choose application" and put in the path of Thunderbird executable C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe And it doesn't work, asks me to close Thunderbird It's strange that Firefox has Outlook as a selectable option which works flawlessly but its own brother Thunderbird isn't even on the list of defaults. PS: And when I have Thunderbird closed and then do the above, it starts the Thunderbird and puts the feed in whatever folder it likes without even asking me.

• JAWStats statspath error on windows

  I have AWStats which works fine, and JAWStats I am trying to get working. I have tried back and forward slashes to get the program to read the dirdata files. I even moved the folder of dirdata outside of program files folder, in case it had problems with folder names with spaces in them. • Windows Server (SBS) 2008 - Telephony service won't start (missing permissions)

  I am running a SBS 2008 server. It's setup as the domain controller for the network. After a reboot, the Telephony service (and all services that depend on it) refuses to start under the Network Service account. The error given is: Error 1297: A privilege that the service requires to function properly does not exist in the service account configuration. You may use the Services Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in (services.msc) and the Local Security Settings MMC snap-in (secpol.msc) to view the service configuration and the account configuration. This has caused all the network services not to be accessible e.g. terminal services, VPN (RRAS), SQL Server instances. The SSH daemon I have running on the box will accept connections only from localhost, but won't respond on the network. After searching around, the only advice I could find was to grant the Network Service account these permissions: Adjust memory quotas for a process Replace a process level token I set those permissions on both the Default Domain Policy and the Default Domain Controller Policy, but it seemingly had no effect. Most of the services will start if I change them to run under the Local System account, but that didn't make them accessible on the network. I even tried removing the Routing and Remote Access Services feature, rebooting and reinstalling it, but the issue remains. Any ideas?

  Why when I remove the MACHINENAME\Users group permission set from a websites physical folder and and grant a similar permission set to MACHINENAME\IIS_IUSRS group my website will not start. Why do I have to grant Read & Execute, List folder contents and Read to the MACHINENAME\Users group physical website folder?

• How to handle external and internal DNS on windows 2012

  I'm trying to setup an Active Directory network on Server 2012 R2, and want AD's DNS to only be used internally (Ex: domain-controller.company.com) as well as some records that need both internal and external accessibility (Ex: mail.company.com) that use internal IP's on the internal network and finally some records that only need external access. The only solutions i have been able to think of, or look up are to either use a sub domain that handles all internal records, and use the plain company.com domain for all external records. These both seem to mean i have to manage two DNS servers separately. Is either of these the best ways or am i messing up somewhere?

• DNS problems with Google on Windows 7

  Hello dear superuser community. I had no idea where to post this because it is a problem that completely baffles me. I have a lot of experience with network configuration, but I am completely out of ideas on how to fix this. I have a Fritz!Box branded router on my ISP 1&1 in Germany. My computer is connected to it with a normal Ethernet cable. I always manually set my IP on the computer and use the Google DNS servers for name resolution. I also tried OpenDNS and the result is the same. With that configuration the following happens: Google search responds with big delay Gmail, Google Calendar & Google Drive requests time out the majority of the time In order to troubleshoot, I set the network connection to DHCP for both IP & DNS. At that point, what happens is the following: Google search times out most of the time Gmail, Google Calendar & Google Drive work most of the time Sometimes, it happens that the sites that time out will come up, but weirdly enough, the pictures on the buttons will be missing. For instance, the magnifying glass on Google will be gone or the circle arrow on Gmail (but all buttons of course). All other websites load just fine - and very quickly. All other network functionality is completely unimpacted. The behaviour of fixed IP & Google DNS vs automatic IP & DNS is easily reproducible. I am going crazy trying to fix this as I have no idea what the hell is going on at this point. Here a list of the things I have tried thus far: Flushed the DNS Tried on different browsers (Works fine on my laptop by the way) Tried disabling Teredo & IPv6 stack Emptied all caches Checked the HOSTS file Rebooted the router Reset the router Reinstalled the network adapter Tracert displayes normal route until timing out at one point Ping usually doesn't work for the unreachable sites either Ran both complete Norton 360 & Kaspersky 2012 scan Ran Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool in safe mode Tried connection in safe mode & networking enabled If you have any ideas, please let me know. I'm getting desperate...

• Can you "swap" the Sysprep answer file in Windows 7

  I have a load of new Lenovo laptops which I am due to distribute in my company. We are distributed in multiple locations and I want to ship the laptops "boxed" and untouched by IT hand for distribution. We are using LANDesk to do all the software distribution and provisioning, but are currently falling at the first hurdle as when booted, the laptops kick into the Lenovo mini-setup wizard. I assume this is because they have been sysprepped at Lenovo. In order to keep with our (almost) zero touch strategy I want the users to PXE boot into a PE of some sort, which will run a script on startup which replaces the sysprep answer file with one of my own. (i.e. prepopulated with product key, company info etc.) and then reboot to complete Sysprep. The plan is that this will run, and then install the LANDesk agent as a post-sysprep task, which in turn will complete the provisioning. Anyone have any experience / know any pitfalls to look out for / can suggest a suitable, PXE-bootable PE environment? Apologies for the verbosity of the question - it takes a bit of explaining!   I have a laptop mounted to a dock. When I try to use 2 monitors using dualview everything works fine I get my image across 2 monitors, but when I connect the third one I can't use it although its recognized. Here's what I'd like to do, I'd like to get dual view from my laptop across two monitors, and I have a remote machine connecting to it via remote desktop. I'd like to have that displayed on the third monitor. Is that possible? or some other combination?

• How do I get Windows 7 To Recognize a newly installed RAID 5 volume?

  I had a previously running Windows 7 (64 bit) system. I added 3 new 1TB Seagate drives that I set up as a RAID 5 volume. I have a Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 motherboard. I installed the drives, set up the BIOS and configured the three drives as a RAID volume through the RAID setup utility that was accessed via Ctrl-I while the system was booting. I rebooted the system and could see the drives during the boot sequence. However, when Windows 7 was starting I got an error (quick blue screen) and then Windows tried to repair itself with no success. Do I need to install RAID drivers in Windows? How do I do it if Windows won't boot? Thanks in advance.

  I've just installed PHP (5.3.1) and MySQL (5.1.44) on my development machine. Then I used the Web Platform Installer to install a copy of Joomla and Drupal. However, when I tried to browse either site application, I get a HTTP Error 500: Module FastCgiModule Notification ExecuteRequestHandler Handler PHP_via_FastCGI Error Code 0x00000000 Requested URL http://localhost:808/drupal/index.php Physical Path D:\Projects\drupal\index.php Logon Method Anonymous Logon User Anonymous PHPInfo.php reports that FastCGI is configured (not sure if that is significant). Sure the fact that PHPInfo.php reports anything is perhaps an indication that PHP itself is working...? I'm struggling to know where to look for a solution... Each application appears to be configure similarly to my other [ASP/ASP.NET] applications.

• Windows Server 2008 SMTP & POP3 Configuration

  This is the first time I have ever configured a VPS server without 3rd party applications such as Plesk control panel. I have got most functionality working in all my websites except I am very unsure as to how I can setup my email functionality on this new server. Basically I want the standard POP3 functionality, a bunch of accounts with private boxes, all able to send and receive emails using their individual usernames and passwords. My server setup is pretty simple, its a VPS with IIS & DNS Server running. What I have tried to do to setup SMTP & POP3 is adding the SMTP Server feature through the Server Manager Console (very unsure of the configuration as guides I found did not explain), I then installed a 3rd party application called Visdeno SMTP Extender as it claims to be a POP3 service providing accounting and the ability to communicate with email clients. That is as far as I have gotten as I can not seem to find too much information on the subject. So can someone please tell me how to go about configuring these services in order to provide standard SMTP & POP3 functionality? Thanks, Alex.

• Default document not working after installing SP1 on Windows 2008 R2 x64

  We have a web site that should only be available for authorized users. So we deny anonymous access for the site. However we do allow anonymous access to the default page and the login page. When we installed SP1 the behavior of the server changed. Now if the user is trying to access the root of the site, say http://mysite.com, she is redirected to login page rather than the default page. Is there a hotfix to bring back the previous behavior?

• Rails3 environment running very slow on Windows XP, Ubuntu 9.04, Ubuntu 9.10

  I've tried all three (granted the Ubuntu versions were via VirtualBox with XP as a host, but I gave the images all the available RAM my system has). Loading the rails environment is taking 30-60 seconds. rails console, rake test:units - anything that requires rails to load up. And not just on the first go - every time. I've even used autotest to see if it helps with execution time for unit tests, but it doesn't. Any time I change one test, it still takes 30 seconds to load them, and then about 4 seconds to execute. Has anyone else come across this issue? Has anyone figured out any way to fix this?

• Change the default program for a filetype to something not in "Program Files" in Windows Vista

  I'm trying to make my python scripts run in python 2.6 by default when run from the command line. This is paired with adding certain scripts to the PATH variable and .py to PATHEXT for convenience. But I'll be damned if I can get the file type association to work. In the default programs dialog (found in control panel) I find .py, and click "Change Program." This gives me the same dialog as clicking "Open with..." on a file's context menu. I search for python. Tell it to use python, but it doesn't add it to the list of programs I am allowed to use. I tried making a shortcut to python in Program Files, but that won't work either. If I copy python into a folder in Program Files, then that works. But why can't I just point it at C:\python26\python.exe (which is in the PATH variable) in the first place? Is there a way around this, or do I have to just reinstall python into Program Files?

• Back up Windows 2008 SBS to iSCSI disk

  I've almost no experience with SBS 2008, so please excuse my noob question! SBS 2008 only has the most basic backup utility built in as far as I can tell (similar to Vista), and it will only back up to physical volumes. I've read that you can set up a batch task to backup to a network volume, but right now I just need to get something deployed ASAP. We have an iSCSI target with plenty of free space. Is it worth backing up to an iSCSI target? Or am I wasting my time? If I need to do a recovery from the iSCSI disk, how would I go about it?

• Redirecting a port to a remote server on windows

What I would like to do is have a program that listens on port A and when a remote computer connects to it redirect all input/output of that socket to another server on a different port.   Hello, We have 2 servers let's call them server A and server B. Server B is never used unless something goes wrong with server A. I need a system that can replicate server A to server B but this doesn't have to be continues. This only has to be done once every day (let's say at 1 am or so). Also, it's not necessary to automatically take over the server, this can be done manually. On this server IIS is running and sql 2008 so all webapplications and databases must be synced/replicated.   I have and asus r500v with 750 gb gpt system uefi motherboard core i7 3610qm, nvidia geforce gt, with ubuntu and w7 dual boot, I had problems installing ubuntu because of the grub but I fix it with https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/807801, but I still have the problem of "warning: the partition is misaligned by 3072 bytes. this may result iin very poor performance. Repartitioning is suggested" in every linux partitioin I made and my 750 gb is not being used at the maximun capacity it only uses 698 gb. I want to make partitions so that the warning doesnt show up and I can use the maximum capacity of the HDD, as I did with another dual boot laptop (compaq presario cq40).
