  • How can i install windowscodecs using wine 1.5.19?

    I'm having a hard time trying to install windowscodecs.dll with winetricks. I wish to install it in order to play "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic". Just installing the game won't work. A message from wine says that this dll is necessary. So, using winetricks, i get: "Note: command 'wine wic_x86_enu.exe /passive' returned status 67. Aborting." I've tried to download the dll and place it in the system folder, inside drive C, in .wine, and inside the game folder. Doesn't make any difference, wine still requires the dll. Any ideas?

  • ca-certificates-java fails when trying to install openjdk-6-jre

    I use a VPS with Ubuntu Server 10.10 x64. I want to use Java and run the command sudo apt-get install openjdk-6-jre but it fails because the installation encounted errors while processing ca-certificates-java. I have tried to install the failed package with: sudo apt-get install ca-certificates-java How can I solve this? I have run sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get upgrade but I get the same errors after that. I have also installed Ubuntu Server x64 on a VirtualBox, but the two Ubuntu Server 10.10 has different kernel versions (2.6.35 on VirtualBox and 2.6.18 on my VPS). And on VirtualBox I can install Jetty without any problems. The VPS is a fresh install of Ubuntu Server 10.10 x64, the first command I was running was sudo apt-get install openjdk-6-jre. When I run sudo apt-get install ca-certificates-java I get this message: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... when running java -version: Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap Could not create the Java virtual machine. My VPS had 128MB of Memory, I changed to 256MB but got the same problem. Then I changed to 512MB and got the same problem. I found a related post on a forum: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) And I tried: sudo apt-get clean sudo apt-get --reinstall install openjdk-6-jre sudo dpkg --configure -a But I got the same problem, even when I'm using 512MB of Memory. Any suggestions?

    I can get Xephyr to run single applications within a Xephyr window. How can I run an entire Unity desktop session within a Xephyr window? (Preferably as another user.) If I use the gtk-xephyr script with the command gnome-session --session=ubuntu, I get a black window. If I run compiz I get a grey window. If I do not use the script and just run the following I get a popup in the Xephyr window saying "Could not acquire name on session bus. [Log out]" and in the terminal "gnome-session[3157]: WARNING: Failed to acquire org.gnome.SessionManager". Xephyr :8 & DISPLAY=:8 gnome-session --session=ubuntu

I install all the needed packages through sudo apt-get install g++ make python-all-dev python-all python-dbus \ python-gtk2 python-notify librsvg2-common python-xdg python-support \ subversion libboost-dev libboost-python-dev \ libboost-thread-dev libboost-date-time-dev libboost-filesystem-dev \ libssl-dev zlib1g-dev python-setuptools \ python-mako python-twisted-web python-chardet python-simplejson I then build it $ python setup.py build and $ sudo python setup.py install then I get a long list at the end of which there is the error /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lboost_iostreams collect2: ld returned 1 exit status error: command 'gcc' failed with exit status 1 Can you help me out with this?

    I'm using blender 2.69, installed via software centre, and when I save my user preference through File - User Preferences and click on "Save User Settings" there is a message "cannot open file /home/ganez/.config/blender/2.69/config/userpref.blend@ for writing permission denied" I have checked to the path /home/ganez/.config/blender/2.69/config/ and there is no userpref.blend file present. PS: I think this has something to do with file permission for that config folder and I have no idea on how to use the chmod command. So any advise? Thank you in advance.

    recently i have tried to upgraded ubuntu 12.04 to 14.04 and it got crashed. somehow i upgraded it to 14.04 and now i can able to see login screen. my problem is when i tried to login i am getting error say unable to launch startxfce4 x session --- "startxfce4" not found. i can able to login through command line but not in GUI. i have tried sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop but didn't help. can anyone help me to solve this please.   • Upgrading Fusion Middleware 11.1.1.x to 11.1.1.4

    This is a follow on from my previous post where we upgraded 11.1.1.2 to 11.1.1.3. The instructions I provide here will work for Fusion Middleware 11.1.1.2 and 11.1.1.3 wanting to upgrade to 11.1.1.4. In this example I’m just upgrading SOA Suite on OEL 64bit but the steps will be the same, some of the downloads may be different based on your environment. To upgrade to 11.1.1.4 you need to have access to http://support.oracle.com as this is where the downloads reside. Oracle provides 11.1.1.4 as a standalone download so you can do a fresh install if required using OTN downloads (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/indexes/downloads/index.html). The high level steps to upgrade are as follows: Download software Shutdown you SOA Environment Upgrade WLS to 11.1.1.4 Upgrade SOA Suite to 11.1.1.4 Upgrade OSB to 11.1.1.4 Upgrade MSD Schemas Identify the downloads you require for your install. You will need the WebLogic Server Upgrade and the additional product downloads. If you are using 64bit then use the generic version. The downloads are found from the following location - http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/E18749_01/download_readme.htm#BABDDIIC For the purpose of this post I downloaded the following patches 11060985 – WLS Server Generic 11060960 – SOA Suite 11061005 – OSB Suite You must also download the 11.1.1.4 RCU tool to upgrade the DB schemas. It is available via OTN, or, Oracle Support, I have provided the link from Oracle Support.  11060956 – RCU Make sure you have set the Java executable in your PATH e.g. export PATH=$JAVA_HOME/bin:$PATH  Make sure all your WebLogic environment has been shut down before performing the upgrade. Extract the WLS patch 11060985 to a temporary directory and start the installer java –jar wls1034_upgrade_generic.jar Please note if you are not running 64BIT then the upgrade executable will be just a bin file which you can execute directly. Chose the right Oracle home for your WebLogic Server install. In the Register for Security Updates you can enter your details or just click Next. If you do not enter details confirm that you don’t want to receive these updates Select the products you want to upgrade and select next. It is recommended that you accept the defaults. Confirm the directories that will be upgraded Upgrade of WLS ahs been completed   Extract your both SOA downloads to a temporary directory and run the installer found in Disk1 ./runInstaller -jreLoc /java/jdk1.6.0_20/jre Please note that the java location and version may be different for your environment Skip the Software Updates Ensure your system meets the prerequisites Set the Oracle home for your SOA install. You will be asked to confirm that you want to upgrade, click Yes Choose your application server. Since you are upgrading from 11.1.1.x you will be on WebLogic Start the Install Installation Upgrade of SOA Suite completed accept the default to finish.   In my environment I have OSB installed so I need to upgrade this next. If you don’t have SOA Suite you can go straight to completing the DB Schema updates at Step 24.  Extract the OSB upgrade files to a temporary directory and execute the installer found in the Disk1 folder. ./runInstaller -jreLoc /java/jdk1.6.0_20/jre Skip the software updates Select the Oracle home for your environment Accept the warning to continue the upgrade Point to the location of your WebLogic Server installation Install the OSB upgrade Upgrade has been completed accept the defaults Change directory to $MW_HOME/oracle_common/bin where the Patch Set Assistant is installed Execute the following command to update the MDS schema. Please not for my examples I have the context set to DEV. your may be different. This means that all my schemas are prefixed by DEV. ./psa -dbType Oracle -dbConnectString 'localhost:1521:xe' -dbaUserName sys -schemaUserName DEV_MDS You will be asked you passwords for sys and the schema Enter the database administrator password for "sys": Enter the schema password for schema user "DEV_MDS": Change directory to $MW_HOME/Oracle_SOA1/bin to where the Patch Set Assistant is installed for SOA Suite. Execute the following command to update the SOA and BAM schemas ./psa -dbType Oracle -dbConnectString 'localhost:1521:xe' -dbaUserName sys -schemaUserName DEV_SOAINFRA   To check that you have the installed correctly run the following SQL as sysdba. SELECT owner, version, status FROM schema_version_registry; OWNER                          VERSION                        STATUS ------------------------------ ------------------------------ ----------- DEV_MDS                        11.1.1.4.0                     VALID DEV_SOAINFRA                   11.1.1.4.0                     VALID Don’t stress if the versions are not all sitting at version 11.1.1.4 as not all schemas need to be updated. The key ones are MDS and SOAINFRA

  • Script to establish SSH tunnel and then run another program that uses the tunnel

    I am running a GUI app (Gnucash) that connects to a remote Postgres database via a secure shell session. I can use the SSH -L command to tunnel a local port and then separately run Gnucash and this works fine. What I'd like to do is use a single shell script that sets up the tunnel and then calls Gnucash. Is that possible? If so, how do I do it? Currently, I run commands like the following in 2 separate terminal windows: ssh -L 5433:127.0.0.1:19097 [email protected] gnucash postgres://gnucash@localhost:5433/gnucash_db If I simply put both lines in a shell script, the first line drops me into the remote shell and the second line doesn't execute until I exit the remote shell.     ifup eth0 failed to bring up eth0 First, I have set static ip using the below commands: Commands: ifdown eth0 ifconfig eth0 X.X.X.X netmask 255.255.252.0 up route add default gw X.X.X.X I was successful in setting up static ip X.X.X.X and I could see the same in the output of command "ifconfig". Now I am trying to revert network back to dhcp using the below commands: Commands: ifdown eth0 ifup eth0 Output : RTNETLINK answers: File exists ssh stop/waiting ssh start/running, process 1524 ifup eth0, failed to bring back dhcp.     I have weired issue. I did a fresh installation of Ubuntu 12.04. Then I installed Nvidia drives for my graphics card. I executed the command "modprobe nvidia" after installing the Nvidia drivers and rebooted. After reboot, sound indicator in top panel is disabled and I can't control the volume from there. I opened Settings Sound and it does not show any sound card installed. However, I can hear the sound. Please help.   • Where do we put "asking the world" code when we separate computation from side effects?

    According to Command-Query Separation principle, as well as Thinking in Data and DDD with Clojure presentations one should separate side effects (modifying the world) from computations and decisions, so that it would be easier to understand and test both parts. This leaves an unanswered question: where relatively to the boundary should we put "asking the world"? On the one hand, requesting data from external systems (like database, extental services' APIs etc) is not referentially transparent and thus should not sit together with pure computational and decision making code. On the other hand, it's problematic, or maybe impossible to tease them apart from computational part and pass it as an argument as because we may not know in advance which data we may need to request.

The source of the problem is that the installed oneric package doesn't recognize my ios 5.1 - so I wanted to switch to the latest and greatest (1.0.7 and if that's not good enough I'll go to the dev version 1.1.2). I'm using oneric 64bit.

  • Issues installing synapse launcher

    I am trying to install synapse launcher on my desktop . I am using these two commands: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:synapse-core/ppa sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install synapse However I am getting an error with the second command saying E: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead. I presume this has something to do with my connection to the hosting servers. But what I don't understand is the fact that synaptic is working it just seems to be something about that ppa. I don't know what I am doing wrong as the commands are widely suggested around the web, But they don't seem to work for me! I would greatly appreciate some advice on this as it is proving to be very frustrating. Many thanks, George

  • Ubuntu 12.10 - Graphics driver shows Gallium 0.4 instead of intel HD

    I have a hybrid Intel/Nvidia system using bumblebee on Ubuntu 12.10 with specs: Clevo W150HR, SB i7-2720qm, 8GB RAM, 128GB Crucial M4 SSD + 500GB HDD It is reported to use software rendering (through Gallium driver) rather than accelerated through the intel HD driver. Reinstalling the intel driver has no effect: sudo apt-get install --reinstall xserver-xorg-video-intel The result is a rather sluggish desktop. Is there any way to blacklist the gallium driver? Or force the intel driver instead? Edit 1 - Ubuntu 12.04 shows the driver as Intel SandyBridge out of the box, but 12.10 does not even after running the above command. Edit 2 - Xorg.0.log shows: (--) intel(0): Integrated Graphics Chipset: Intel(R) Sandybridge Mobile (GT1) (WW) intel(0): Disabling hardware acceleration on this pre-production hardware. Edit 3 - It turns out that SandyBridge rev.7 systems are known to be unstable per this link. Accordingly in the xserver-xorg-video-intel if it detects this rev. it disables it with the warning in above log.

  • VBoxManage modifyhd --resize doesn't exist?

    I'm trying to increase the size of a VirtualBox Win7 .vdi disk on Ubuntu 10.04 but when I try executing VBoxManage modifyhd /path/disk.vdi --resize 15360 it returns Syntax error: unknown option: --resize. I'm unsure as to why this is happening because I've used it before and it's still listed under valid options for VBoxManage modifyhd in the VirualBox User Manual .
