  • How do I 'addChild' an DisplayObject3d from another class? (Papervision3d)

    - by Sandor
Hi All Im kind of new in the whole papervision scene. For a school assignment I'm making a panorama version of my own room using a cube with 6 pictures in it. It created the panorama, it works great. But now I want to add clickable objects in it. One of the requirements is that my code is OOP focused. So that's what I am trying right now. Currently I got two classes - Main.as (Here i make the panorama cube as the room) - photoWall.as (Here I want to create my first clickable object) Now my problem is: I want to addChild a clickable object from photoWall.as to my panorama room. But he doesn't show it? I think it has something to do with the scenes. I use a new scene in Main.as and in photoWall.as. No errors or warnings are reported This is the piece in photoWall.as were I want to addChild my object (photoList): private function portret():void { //defining my material for the clickable portret var material : BitmapFileMaterial = new BitmapFileMaterial('images/room.jpg'); var material_list : MaterialsList = new MaterialsList( { front: material, back: material } ); // I don't know if this is nessecary? that's my problem scene = new Scene3D(); material.interactive = true; // make the clickable object as a cube var photoList : DisplayObject3D = new Cube(material_list, 1400, 1400, 1750, 1, 4, 4, 4); // positioning photoList.x = -1400; photoList.y = -280; photoList.z = 5000; //mouse event photoList.addEventListener( InteractiveScene3DEvent.OBJECT_CLICK, onPress); // this is my problem! I cannot see 'photoList' within my scene!!! scene.addChild(photoList); // trace works, so the function must be loaded. trace('function loaded'); } Hope you guys can help me out here. Would really be great! Thanks, Sandor

  • My method is being recognized within my own program. Newbie mistake probably.

    - by Sergio Tapia
Here's my code: sentenceToTranslate = raw_input("Please write in the sentence you want to translate: ") words = sentenceToTranslate.split(" ") for word in words: if isVowel(word[0]): print "TEST" def isVowel(letter): if letter.lower() == "a" or letter.lower() == "e" or letter.lower() == "i" or letter.lower() == "o" or letter.lower() == "u": return True else: return False The error I get is: NameError: name 'isVowel' is not defined What am I doing wrong?

  • How do I hide an inherited __published property in the derived class in a VCL component?

    - by Gary Benade
I have created a new VCL component based on an existing VCL component. What I want to do now is set the Password and Username properties from an ini file instead of the property inspector. Robert Dunn Link I read on the delphi forum above you cannot unpublish a property and that the only workaround is to redeclare the property as read-only. I tried this but it all it does is make the property read only and grayed out in the object inspector. While this could work I would prefer if the property wasn't visible at all. __property System::UnicodeString Password = {read=FPassword}; Thanks in advance for any help or links to c++ VCL component writing tutorials. I am using CB2010

  • CSS selector for grouped iterations

    - by snaken
Hi, I have a number of elements that i want to loop through as groups. Consider this HTML: <input class="matching match-1" /> <input class="matching match-1" /> <input class="matching match-2" /> <input class="matching match-2" /> <input class="matching match-2" /> <input class="matching match-3" /> <input class="matching match-3" /> // etc I want a CSS selector that would allow me to loop through these as groups so there would be - using this example - 3 iterations of the loop (one for match-1, one for match-2 and one for match-3). The 1,2,3 etc is a variable used for grouping but this is not fixed so it cannot rely on hard coding of these values. Is this even possible? I'll be using jQuery or prototype not that that should matter really. Thanks

  • How can I stop an auto-generated Linq to SQL class from loading ALL data?

    - by Gary McGill
I have an ASP.NET MVC project, much like the NerdDinner tutorial example. (I'm using MVC 2, but followed the NerdDinner tutorial in order to create it). As per the instructions in part 3 of the tutorial, I've created a Linq-to-SQL model of my database by creating a "Linq to SQL Classes" (.dbml) surface, and dropping my database tables onto it. The designer has automatically added relationships between the generated classes based on my database tables. Let's say that my classes are as per the NerdDinner example, so I have Dinner and RSVP tables, where each Dinner record is associated with many RSVP records - hence in the generated classes, the Dinner object has a RSVPs property which is a list of RSVP objects. My problem is this: it appears (and I'd be gladly proved wrong on this) that as soon as I access a Dinner object, it's loading all of the corresponding RSVP objects, even if I don't use the RSVPs member. First question: is this really the default behavior for the generated classes? In my particular situation, the object graph contains many more tables (which have an order of magnitude more records), and so this is disastrous behaviour - I'd be loading tons of data when all I want to do is show the details of a single parent record. Second question: are there any properties exposed through the designer UI that would let me modify this behavior? (I can't find any). Third question: I've seen a description of how to control the loading of related records in a DataContext by using a DataShape object associated with the DataContext. Is that what I'm meant to do, and if so are there any tutorials like the NerdDinner one that would show not only how to do it, but also suggest a 'pattern' for normal use?

  • Software Design & Web Service Design

    - by 001
I'm about to design my Web service API, most of the functions of my API is basically very simular to my web application. Now the question is, should I create 1 single method and reuse them for both the web application and the web service api? (This seems to be the logical solution, however its very complicated; it's much easier to duplicate the method used by the web application, and keep both separate, ie one method for the web application and one method for the web service.) How do you guys do it? 1) REUSE: one main method and reuse them for both web application and web service application (I like this but it's complicated) WebAppMethodX --uses-- COMMONFUNCTIONMETHOD_X APIMethodX ---uses---- COMMONFUNCTIONMETHOD_X ie common function performs functions such as creating/updating/deleting records etc 2) DUPLICATE: two methods, one method for the web application and one method for the web service. WebAppMethodX APIMethodX

  • Does the specific signed integer matter when implementing compareTo in a Comparable <Type> class?

    - by javanix
When implementing compareTo(), does the degree of "difference" need to be taken into account? For instance, if I have 3 objects, C1, C2, and C3, such that C1 < C2 < C3. Should C1.compareTo(C2) return an integer that is less than C2.compareTo(C3)? The documentation for the Comparable interface doesn't seem to specify one way or another, so I'm guessing the degree doesn't matter, but it would be nice to know if there is some advantage returning a specific number (for example, improving TreeSet sort speed or something). http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api/java/lang/Comparable.html#compareTo(T)

  • Tips for learning faster

    - by Helper Method
When I start to learn something new, a new tool, programming language, etc. it often takes me sooo much time to learn it. In the end, I have a deep understanding (well, most of the time ;-)), but lacking the time for other things also important. Do you know any tips to learn faster without sacrificing too much depth?

  • Singleton code linker errors in vc 9.0. Runs fine in linux compiled with gcc

    - by user306560
    I have a simple logger that is implemented as a singleton. It works like i want when I compile and run it with g++ in linux but when I compile in Visual Studio 9.0 with vc++ I get the following errors. Is there a way to fix this? I don't mind changing the logger class around, but I would like to avoid changing how it is called. 1>Linking... 1>loggerTest.obj : error LNK2005: "public: static class Logger * __cdecl Logger::getInstance(void)" (?getInstance@Logger@@SAPAV1@XZ) already defined in Logger.obj 1>loggerTest.obj : error LNK2005: "public: void __thiscall Logger::log(class std::basic_string<char,struct std::char_traits<char>,class std::allocator<char> > const &)" (?log@Logger@@QAEXABV?$basic_string@DU?$char_traits@D@std@@V?$allocator@D@2@@std@@@Z) already defined in Logger.obj 1>loggerTest.obj : error LNK2005: "public: void __thiscall Logger::closeLog(void)" (?closeLog@Logger@@QAEXXZ) already defined in Logger.obj 1>loggerTest.obj : error LNK2005: "private: static class Logger * Logger::_instance" (?_instance@Logger@@0PAV1@A) already defined in Logger.obj 1>Logger.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "private: static class std::basic_string<char,struct std::char_traits<char>,class std::allocator<char> > Logger::_path" (?_path@Logger@@0V?$basic_string@DU?$char_traits@D@std@@V?$allocator@D@2@@std@@A) 1>loggerTest.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "private: static class std::basic_string<char,struct std::char_traits<char>,class std::allocator<char> > Logger::_path" (?_path@Logger@@0V?$basic_string@DU?$char_traits@D@std@@V?$allocator@D@2@@std@@A) 1>Logger.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "private: static class boost::mutex Logger::_mutex" (?_mutex@Logger@@0Vmutex@boost@@A) 1>loggerTest.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "private: static class boost::mutex Logger::_mutex" (?_mutex@Logger@@0Vmutex@boost@@A) 1>Logger.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "private: static class std::basic_ofstream<char,struct std::char_traits<char> > Logger::_log" (?_log@Logger@@0V?$basic_ofstream@DU?$char_traits@D@std@@@std@@A) 1>loggerTest.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "private: static class std::basic_ofstream<char,struct std::char_traits<char> > Logger::_log" (?_log@Logger@@0V?$basic_ofstream@DU?$char_traits@D@std@@@std@@A) The code, three files Logger.h Logger.cpp test.cpp #ifndef __LOGGER_CPP__ #define __LOGGER_CPP__ #include "Logger.h" Logger* Logger::_instance = 0; //string Logger::_path = "log"; //ofstream Logger::_log; //boost::mutex Logger::_mutex; Logger* Logger::getInstance(){ { boost::mutex::scoped_lock lock(_mutex); if(_instance == 0) { _instance = new Logger; _path = "log"; } } //mutex return _instance; } void Logger::log(const std::string& msg){ { boost::mutex::scoped_lock lock(_mutex); if(!_log.is_open()){ _log.open(_path.c_str()); } if(_log.is_open()){ _log << msg.c_str() << std::endl; } } } void Logger::closeLog(){ Logger::_log.close(); } #endif ` ... #ifndef __LOGGER_H__ #define __LOGGER_H__ #include <iostream> #include <string> #include <fstream> #include <boost/thread/mutex.hpp> #include <boost/thread.hpp> using namespace std; class Logger { public: static Logger* getInstance(); void log(const std::string& msg); void closeLog(); protected: Logger(){} private: static Logger* _instance; static string _path; static bool _logOpen; static ofstream _log; static boost::mutex _mutex; //check mutable }; #endif test.cpp ` #include <iostream> #include "Logger.cpp" using namespace std; int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { Logger* log = Logger::getInstance(); log->log("hello world\n"); return 0; }

  • Shortest way of determining a name ends with an `s`, `x` or `z`, and then use the `I18n.t` method wi

    - by Koning Baard XIV
I'm creating a Rails application where users can have a first and last name. Since I'm a perfectionist, the application may not show something like Dennis's profile or Xianx's profile, but rather Dennis' profile and Xianx' profile. I use L18n, so I wanted to ask what is the shortest way of implementing this? This grammar is the same for both English and Dutch, where the application will be translated to. Oh, some important things: I am not afraid of using helpers and the application controller My language files are in Ruby, not YAML Thanks!

  • How do I supply extra info to IApplicationSettingsProvider class?

    - by joebeazelman
Perhaps this question has been asked before in a different way, but I haven’t been able to find it. I have one or more plugin adapter assemblies in my application all having the type IPlugin, for instance. Each adapter has its own settings structures stored in a common directory. Whether they are stored in one contiguous file or in separate ones doesn’t matter. Each adapter can have one or more settings associated with it. The settings will have both a name and the Plugin it will be used for. How would I create such a configuration system using the following requirements: I want to use .NETs built in settings system and avoid writing one from scratch The host application will be responsible for locating the plugin settings and passing it to the plugin Each plugin will be responsible for reading and writing its own settings to separate concerns. The host application should call Plugin.Save(thePath) and it does its thing. All settings are user scoped So far, I realize that I would need to write my own SettingsProvider, but the provider seems to work in isolation in that there’s no way to pass it parameters such as the path of the plugin directory and the name of the settings. All of the example code I've seen has the provider getting the data from the runtime environment.

  • Using a Linq-To-SQL class automagically generates the connection string for me; is there a way to ma

    - by Sergio Tapia
I'm just beginning to use Linq-to-SQL and it's just wonderful to use. The problem is, this software is going to be run on a lot of machines and each machine will have a unique connection string. Is there a way for me to manually set the connection the Linq-to-SQL (.dbml) uses? The way I'm doing things now is creating the .dbml file, and in the graphic designer I'm dragging tables from the Server Explorer to the white board of the .dbml.

  • Setting serial RS232 port settings; any in C# alternatives to SerialPort class ?

    - by adrin
In my .NET application I need to achieve serial port setup equivalent to this C++ managed code: ::SetCommMask(m_hCOMM, EV_RXCHAR); ::SetupComm(m_hCOMM, 9*2*128*10, 400); ::PurgeComm(m_hCOMM, PURGE_TXABORT|PURGE_RXABORT|PURGE_TXCLEAR|PURGE_RXCLEAR); COMMTIMEOUTS timeOut; timeOut.ReadIntervalTimeout = 3; timeOut.ReadTotalTimeoutConstant = 3; timeOut.ReadTotalTimeoutMultiplier = 1; timeOut.WriteTotalTimeoutConstant = 0; timeOut.WriteTotalTimeoutMultiplier= 0; int nRet= ::SetCommTimeouts(m_hCOMM, &timeOut); ::EscapeCommFunction(m_hCOMM, SETDTR); ::EscapeCommFunction(m_hCOMM, SETRTS); DCB dcb; memset(&dcb, 0, sizeof(DCB)); dcb.BaudRate= m_nSpeed; dcb.ByteSize= 8; dcb.fParity = FALSE; dcb.Parity = NOPARITY; dcb.StopBits= ONESTOPBIT; dcb.fBinary = TRUE; dcb.fDsrSensitivity= FALSE; dcb.fOutxDsrFlow= FALSE; dcb.fOutxCtsFlow= FALSE; dcb.fDtrControl = DTR_CONTROL_HANDSHAKE; dcb.fRtsControl = RTS_CONTROL_TOGGLE; nRet= ::SetCommState(m_hCOMM, &dcb); Is it possible at all? How do I approach this problem? Are there any (preferable free) libraries that allow such low level serial port control or should I create my own wrapper on top of Win32 api? Anyone did anything similar or has an idea how to 'glue' win32 serial port api with .net so that I can use neat .NET DataReceived() events ? Or maybe I can create .NET SerialPort instance and then modify it using managed API?

  • Visual Studio 2010 shortcut to select word / expression / line / section / method?

    - by Lernkurve
There is a shortcut Ctrl+Shift+W to select the entire word at the current cursor position. Is there a similar shortcut that keeps expanding the selected region every time I apply it? I mean, is there a shortcut which selects the word when applied once (same as Ctrl+Shift+W) and selects the entire line when applied twice in a row and selects the entire block when applied three times etc., i.e. keeps expanding the selected region step by step? I remember seeing such a shortcut, but I don't remember whether it was for Visual Studio or some other editor.

  • How to compute the probability of a multi-class prediction using libsvm?

    - by Cuga
    I'm using libsvm and the documentation leads me to believe that there's a way to output the believed probability of an output classification's accuracy. Is this so? And if so, can anyone provide a clear example of how to do it in code? Currently, I'm using the Java libraries in the following manner SvmModel model = Svm.svm_train(problem, parameters); SvmNode x[] = getAnArrayOfSvmNodesForProblem(); double predictedValue = Svm.svm_predict(model, x);
