  We one mysql server suddenly the access to it becomes slow of out sudden. So I read some place they said maybe due to var size is it? I am not too sure any idea how to check the root cause of it. The cpu is like nearly 150%. Any indication on it. • jCarousel jQuery ajax loading 1000 records

  I'm using jCarousel to present a vertical scolling list of +-1000 names. I am using ajax to load the data 100 records at a time then when all the data has loaded I just let the jCarousel loop in the DOM.   I would like to change a jQuery option based on window width (on load as well as on resize). I've found solutions close to what I need, but I don't understand jQuery or javascript enough to customize them for my needs. • What do BCU.exe and BCUService actually do?

  I've got a Gigabyte G32M-ES2L motherboard with an Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 2.93GHz CPU running Windows XP SP3 (fully up to date). Today when I booted the machine my firewall (Sygate Personal Firewall) warned me that BCUService.exe wanted to make a call out to the internet. Wondering what they were I did a Google search and while I found out that these programs weren't malware, I didn't find out what they actually do. The information seemed to boil down to: Part of Browser Configuration Utility Auto-recovery Service from DeviceVM, Inc. This program is not important for your system process, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems. Source So before I remove them from my system does anyone know what they actually do and its it worth them taking over 4Mb of memory?

• [MVC] logic before dispatcher + controller?

  I believe for a typical MVC web application the router / dispatcher routine is used to decide which controller is loaded based primarily on the area requested in the url by the user. However, in addition to checking the url query string, I also like to use the dispatcher to check whether the user is currently logged in or not to decide which controller is loaded. For example if they are logged in and request the login page, the dispatcher would load their account instead. But is this a fairly non-standard design? Would it violate MVC in any way? I only ask as the examples I've read through this weekend have had no major calculations performed before the dispatcher routine, and commonly check whether the user is logged in or not per controller, and then redirect where necessary. But to me it seems odd to redirect a logged in user from the login area to account area if you could just load the account controller in the first place? I hope I've explained my consternation well enough, but could anyone offer some details on how they handle logged in users, and similar session data?

• Modify url in browser using javascript?

  Hi, Is it possible to change the url in the user's browser without actually loading a page, using javascript? I don't think it is (could lead to unwanted behavior), I'm in a situation where this would be convenient though: I have a web app which displays reports generated by users. Layout roughly looks like: ----------------------------------------------------------- Column 1 | Column 2 ----------------------------------------------------------- Report A | Report B | Currently selected report contents here. Report C | right now the user would be looking at a url like: www.mysite.com/user123 To see the above page. When the user clicks the report names in column 1, I load the contents of that report in column 2 using ajax. This is convenient for the user, but the url in their browser remains unchanged. The users want to copy the url for a report to share with friends, so I suppose I could provide a button to generate a url for them, but it would just be more convenient for them to have it already as the url in their browser, something like: www.mysite.com/user123/reportb the alternate is to not load the contents of the report in column 2 using ajax, but rather a full page refresh. This would at least have a linkable url ready for the user in their url bar, but not as convenient as using ajax. Thanks

• Low end dedicated GPU vs. integrated Intel graphics (for light CAD work)

  I have been asked to spec a PC for an interior design business. They are going to do some AutoCAD work (but they won't be using massive datasets or anything), and also use Kitchen Draw, a program that has 3D visualization features and says, in its requirements, that "a recent NVidia or ATI card might be enough". Since they are very limited budget-wise, I had originally picked a GeForce GT 610 card, but this card is so low end that I'm left wondering whether it will be an improvement at all over the dedicated Intel HD2500 graphics chip that comes with the CPU (I will be using an Ivy-Bridge Intel i5). Most of the information I see around is for gaming, which isn't really relevant in my case. Basically, for the use case I've described (light 3D work), can one get away with a current Intel HD graphics chipset? And will a low end GPU like the GT 610 provide a noticeable improvement?

  Basically, I have multiple URL's stored in a MySQL table. I want to pull those URLs from the table and have cURL connect to all of them. Currently I've been storing the URL's in the local script, but I've added a new page that I can add and remove them from the database, and I'd like the page to reflect it appropriately. • Configure Linux server hardware buttons for soft reset or power cycle?

  I have a small modest CentOS server at home. I run it headless because anytime I access it, it's always via SSH. Anyways, tonight it became unresponsive to the network. I could not connect to it to investigate. In this case, I have to hook up a keyboard and monitor to see the problem. I ended up just rebooting it. But after this experience, I was wondering if it's possible to configure the hardware buttons on the CPU case to perform a graceful reboot or graceful power cycle in Linux. Even though the server becomes unresponsive once in a blue moon, it would be nice to simply press a button and have it shutdown all services and gracefully reboot. Anyone know how this could be accomplished?

• Hardware advice for bitmap / openGL image processing server?

  I am trying to work out a build for a processing server to handle bitmap processing as well as openGL rendering for chroma-keying images and Photoshop automation. My searches here and on Google have turned up surprisingly few results, and seeing that there aren't tags for bitmap or image processing I take it this is a specialized application. The bitmap processing is very cpu-intensive while the chroma-keying and Photoshop stuff is gpu-intensive. I doubt this is a case of over-optimization as our company batches thousands of images a day (currently on individual workstations) and any saving in processing time and workstation down-time would be beneficial. Does anyone have any experience with this type of processing server? Any special considerations that would go into a build like this or am I over-thinking it?

• Trouble using files Globally

  Recently I ran into trouble when I discovered that vista restricts what can be installed into the system32 directory even though I am the administrator for this computer. It will not allow me to register dll files so I can use programs like wget globally like how programs "nslookup" etc are used. Keeps giving me this error. Regsvr32: The module "C:\Windows\System32\libeay32.dll" failed to load. make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .DLL files. The specified module could not be found. Moving the required DLL files to system32 prompts me to confirm administrator privileges are needed to move these files, So I give the permission, copy the files to system32, and run wget to confirm. This is where it tells me it cannot find the DLL's required to run and when using regsvr32 it says it cannot find the entry point so it will not load the DLL asking me if it is a valid DLL or OCX file. If I leave the DLL's that came with wget in the same folder as wget outsite of system32 they work vice adding them to system32 with the exe it will not work saying it cannot read the those dll files. Is there a way around this or Do I need to Upgrade to Windows 7 to get away from these problems/restrictions?

• rsync stuck with the --checksum option

  I use back-in-time to backup my Linux installation. It serves as an advanced wrapper for the rsync command. Today I tried to add /var/log to the list of folders to be backed up and it caused some serious performance problems. The job seems to stuck on a particular file and the CPU usage of the rsync parent process reaches 100%. I then used lsof to see which file caused the problem and it seems to be the /var/log directory. I did some googling and some experiments with the different rsync options and found --checksum to be the offender. Without the parameter, an incremental backup finishes properly in minutes. With it, the process will stuck when rsync tries to sync a constantly changing log file. This kind of make sense, but it still seems to be a bug to me. Am I using the option correctly? Is there a workaround for this?

I asked my datacenter to install the free version (VMware ESXi 4.1) but apparently it did not recognize 3TB disks. Now I'm wondering whether VMWare 5 can handle 3TB disks, and if so, what variant? The ram could do with another 4GB, for which I am thinking of replacing the 2x2GB for 2x4GB of the same type. My video card is struggling with the latest releases, so vitally should I ditch the video card and go for something newer (ATI 7850, GTX 660?) or try and get another 5850 for crossfire support? Bearing in mind 5850's are sort of hard to come buy now as they are not stocked in shops usually, which means they have to be bought second hand.

• My Computer will not turn on?

  I recently built a gaming pc. It was working fine before the following events: I installed a graphics card driver update then: in windows it said that the user experience index needed to be refreshed, so i started the test and somewhere in the middle of the test my pc just switched off. No shutting down just stopped. Now it won't turn back on. I have checked its plugged in and the switch on psu is down, i tried a different power cable and i checked all the connections. When i press the power button nothing happens, no fans no lights no post beep. • Why I'm unable to use up/down arrows in my BIOS?

  My BIOS is loading and when I wanted to change anything, the up/down arrows aren't working. What might be the problem? I want to change boot options, but I'm unable to select the boot from CD option. My BIOS version is f2.3. Do I need to upgrade it?   Hello everyone i'm a little worry about my graphic card. before I get into that I will tell you my system specs. I have intel dx58so mainboard, 6gb corsair xms ddr3 ram, intel i7 960 cpu, and ati hd 5970. I'm also using a coolmaster haf92 case. My OS is vista X64. Here is my issue when I type in dxdiag in (Start Search) and I look into display. I see in (approx total memory) 716mb graphic memory. The ati hd 5970 is a 2gb graphic card. Am I being stuipd or is there an issue.

  I have a screen with 2 UIWebView. The user can drag the views left and right to make the right and left view bigger (respectively) and the other one smaller (like UISplitView but customized and self made). I'm loading .html pages from strings and local .css files. After resizing the UIWebView If I load a new page there will be a black or white stripe on the right side of the UIWebView. This stripe is part of the web view (not a space between the views), and if I scroll the webView up and then down, the stripe will vanish and the page will be presented correctly. This issue occurs only in iOS 6 and only on the device (on the simulator it doesn't occur). Some notes: - The .css file contains elements with fixed position. Changing to absolute position didn't solve the problem but changed it: the black stripre occured during the drag. - As slower the drag is, the stripe will be bigger. - After resize the page is presented correctly, only when I load a new page the stripe is shown. - The time between resizing the web view and loading a page doesn't matter, it can be straight away or after couple of minutes. Now, as a workaround I create a new UIWebView and copy the old properties to the new. But than I need to reload the presented page which make a white blink... Any idea why does it happens, and how to fix it?
