  I had a mapping for a IDictionary<StocksLocation,decimal> property, this was the mapping: HasMany<StocksLocation>(mq => mq.StocksLocation) .KeyColumn("IDProduct") .AsEntityMap("IDLocation") .Element("Quantity", qt => qt.Type<decimal>()); Now i changed from decimal to a Value Object: Quantity. Quantity has two properties, decimal Value and Unit Unit (where Unit is an enum). I now have to map IDictionary<StocksLocation,Quantity>, how can i achieve this? Thanks in advance

  I'm getting data where the database is hidden behind a WCF service. Is it possible to use Entity Framework in a scenario where I have custom objects coming from a web service? (No access to the external database, and no current plans for insert/update/delete logic) Starting with an empty EF model and adding an entity I get this error on compile: No mapping specified for instances of the EntitySet and AssociationSet in the EntityContainer .. Is it possible to make an entity this way, and fill it with data received from an object? (In this case a WCF, but could also be a predefined model class/xml data) If the web service retured a Customer object I could do something like this with a dataset: Make an unbound table and do a loop through the customer properties adding them to a temp row, add it with tbl_Customer.Addtbl_CustomerRow(customerRow) to get my view filled. thanks, nakori

• How do I make silverlight button transparent while showing the image?

  I have a button that is programatically created, it's content is a stack panel with an image and a textblock. This all works great. I want to make the button behind the image and text transparent, so that the image and text looks like it's sitting on the background, but still have all the properties of the button (i.e. someone clicks in the button region it still registers the button click event). I have been playing with opacities, but every opacity I play with dealing with the button seems to set the whole button (image and text included) to that opacity value as well. How can I make the button opaque while making the text and image content still visible? Oh, this is silverlight 3. Thanks in advance.

  I am having a problem with my code. I am using VB.NET and Visual Studio 2010 to write my program. The source of the control that I am using can be found here. First, I imported the Calendar.DayView.dll file into my toolbox to use as a control. Then I added the following code to my existing code: Private Sub DayView1_NewAppointment(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal args As Calendar.NewAppointmentEventArgs) Dim appointment As New Calendar.Appointment() appointment.StartDate = args.StartDate appointment.EndDate = args.EndDate appointment.Title = args.Title appointments.Add(appointment) End Sub I get this error 'Title' is not a member of 'Calendar.Appointment'. I have no access to the Calendar namespace or the Appointment class. I am able to view the properties of both in the Object Browser but I can't edit any of them. Any suggestions?

• Java interface to Windows communications? (OLE, OPC, DDE)

  I need to integrate an off-the-shelf Windows application with a Java application. At a few key points, I need the Windows application to send an "event" and some data to the Java application. The Windows application anticipated this need, and can be configured to "Poke a DDE Item", "Set an OLE Auto-Property" or "Write an OPC Item". I'm already using JACOB to call COM methods and set COM properties on a COM object. However, I'm guessing that's pretty unrelated to these "event" notification capabilities. Anyone have any experience calling FROM a Windows application to a "DDE Item", "OLE Auto-Property" or "OPC Item" that's actually in a JVM? Any pointers, advice, etc, would be appreciated.

• Getting TypeConverter error that makes no sense

  I have a TypeConverter for a TopMostNode class. It extends ExpandableObjectConverter. The TopMostNode has two properties. Setting those in the property grid results in correctly serialized code to the designer. However, if I type in text for the property, I get a "Property value is not valid" error and the details say: Object of type 'TopMostNode' cannot be converted to type 'TopMostNode'. I'm baffled. When I step through the type converter ConvertFrom code, it runs as expected. I don't even know were to start looking for an issue like this.

• Eclipse: What is the minimum Eclipse installation needed for a headless PDE build?

  Hi, I am currently using PDE build in headless mode to build my OSGI Bundle project. The PDE Antrunner task uses an Eclipse installation and I am just pointing it to my local Eclipse installation. unfortunatelly my eclipse installation is about 260MB big, but I assume that a PDE build does NOT require all of those plugins in a standard eclipse installation. Does anyone now what is the minimum list of plugins I need for doing a headless PDE build? All of my dependencies I actually have in a custom target platform folder, so I guess the only thing I need from my eclipse installation are the dependencies which PDE build actually needs. But what are those? Can I shrink my installation to a very minimum? My goal is to also check-in this "build-eclipse" folder into my project's SVN so that when you check it out, you have everything you need to start a full build, without touching any build.properties. But I don't want to commit 266MB of eclipse if I maybe need only 20MB of it. Thanks Christoph

• Actionscript/Flex - Is it possible to dynamically extend an object, modify functions, add functions

  I know this question might be frowned upon, but actionscript is a dynamic language similar to javascript and in javascript I can take an object from a library written by someone else and dynamically (at runtime) add/remove/modify functions, properties, prototypes etc. this is kind of like dynamically extending an object to make it work with the library it came with as well as another library. Is something like this possible in flex actionscript? I'm thinking it is only possible with classes that are declared 'dynamic' and definitely not possible with classes declared 'final'. What are your thoughts? Any ideas/tricks?

• DCOM: CoCreateInstanceEx returns E_ACCESSDENIED

  I'm working on a DCOM application with the server and client on two machines, both of which are running WinXP with Service Pack 2. On both machines, I'm logged in with the same username and password. When the client on one machine calls CoCreateInstanceEx, asking the other machine to start up the server application, it returns E_ACCESSDENIED. I tried going into the server app's component properties in dcomcnfg and giving full permisions to everyone for everything, but that didn't help. What do I need to do to allow this call to succeed? Update: When the server app is running on a Windows 2000 box, I do not get this error; CoCreateInstanceEx returns S_OK.

I've tried to cause a buffer overflow but have not been successful so far. • how to change stack size for a C# program?

  Dear friends, I have a program that does recursive calls for 2 billion times and the stack overflow. I make changes, and then it still need 40K resursive calls. So I need probably serveral MB stack memory. I heard the stack size is default to 1MB. I tried search online. Some one said to go properties -linker .........in visual studio, but I cannot find it. Does anybody knows how to increase it? Also I am wondering if I can set it some where in my C# program? P.S. I am using 32-bit winXP and 64bit win7. Thanks a lot

  I need to have resource messages that contain EL expressions be resolved when loaded from a ResourceBundle. Basically I have a number of properties files containing the text. Some of the text will look like the following: welcomeText=Welcome #{userbean.name} The only possible way I can see this working currently is implementing a custom taglib so that instead of saying: <f:loadBundle var="messages" basename="application.messages"/> I would have to use <mytaglib:loadBundle var="messages" basename="application.messages"/> #{messages.welcomeText} Given a user with username "User1", this should output Welcome User1 My implementation would then use a custom ResourceBundle class that would override handleGetObject, use the ELResolver to resolve variables etc....Ideas? suggestings? Implementations that are already available? I appreciate your assistance.

• GWT - ListBox - pre-selecting an item

  Hey there Stackoverflow, I got a doubt regarding pre-selecting(setSelectedIndex(index)) an item in a ListBox, Im using Spring + GWT. I got a dialog that contains a painel, this panel has a flexpanel, in which I've put a couple ListBox, this are filled up with data from my database. But this painel is for updates of an entity in my database, thus I wanted it to pre-select the current properties for this items, alowing the user to change at will. I do the filling up in the update method of the widget. I tried setting the selectedItem in the update method, but it gives me an null error. I've searched a few places and it seems that the listbox are only filled at the exact moment of the display. Thus pre-selecting would be impossible. I thought about some event, that is fired when the page is displayed. onLoad() doesnt work.. Anyone have something to help me out in here? Thx in advance, Rodrigo Dellacqua

• MVVM/ViewModels and handling Authorization

  Hey guys Just wondering how how people handle Authorization when using MVVM and/or View Models. If I wasn't using VM's I would be passing back the Model and it would have a property which I could check if a user can edit a given object/property but when using MVVM I am disconnecting myself from the business object... and thus doen't know what the security should be any more. Is this a case where the mapper should be aware of the Authorization that is in place and don't copy across the data if the Authorization check fails. If this was the case I am guessing that the mapper would have to see some properties on the VM to let the interface know which fields are missing data because of the Authorization failure. If this does occur within the mapper, how does this fit in with things like AutoMapper, etc. Cheers Anthony

• VS2010 add-in custom menu item in files of Solution Explorer

  Hey guys, I need to create a custom menu item for Visual Studio 2010 Add-in in C#, but I have had no luck in coming with a solution anytime soon. I am aware that there was a similar post: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2486818/visual-studio-add-in-adding-a-context-menu-item-to-solution-explorer But it did not help, as the blog follows the process through the integration package, and the video is done through VB. I had attempted to convert the VB syntax to the C# syntax, but about half way through the video, the Add-in methods has significantly changed from 2005 to 2010, as some of the methods have removed or changed. Is there any good tutorials on making a custom menu item on the Solution Explorer in the lastest Visual Studio in C#, and is there a good website that could be used as a reference for looking over the VS add-in API? I've used Microsoft's main website, however it is confusing and wordy, which is difficult to understand and find the methods, properties, or commands that I am looking for. Any help would be appreicated, Thanks in advance.

• Is it possible to simultaneously debug VB6 and a C++ COM dll?

  I have a VB6 dll that is loaded by a VB6 frontend. This VB6 dll calls a C++ ATL dll via its COM interface. So, I can run from code in VB6 and I can debug in C++ also, however I can't seem to step through the VB6 code and then get into the C++ code. I feel that this should be possible. Currently I am doing the following steps Start VB6 debugging Start C++ debugging. This involves starting the VB6 front end and setting the working directory to the VB6 front end directory using the VS2008 Debugging Properties in the Options. Execute the code and step through the VB6 code to the point where I should be entering the C++ code. I see the loaded symbols window changing in the VS2008 IDE. Now, it looks like it should work, but I never hit any breakpoints in my C++ code. I hit the breakpoints if I don't start the VB6 debugging first.

My approach is to use the built-in state functionality, but how to use it confuses me. • Silverlight 2.0 - Can't get the text wrapping behaviour that I want

  I am having trouble getting Silverlight 2.0 to lay out text exactly how I want. I want text with line breaks and embedded links, with wrapping, like HTML text in a web page. I want each text block to start where the previous one ends, on the same line. I want to put click event handlers on some of the text. I also want paragraph breaks. Essentially I'm trying to work around the lack of FlowDocument and Hyperlink controls in Silverlight 2.0's subset of XAML. To answer the questions posed in the answers: Why not use runs for the non-clickable text? If I just use individual TextBlocks only on the clickable text, then those bits of text will still suffer from the wrapping problem illustrated above. And the TextBlock just before the link, and the TextBlock just after. Essentially all of it. It doesn't look like I have many opportunities for putting multiple runs in the same TextBlock. Dividing the links from the other text with RegExs and loops is not the issue at all, the issue is display layout. Why not put each word in an individual TextBlock in a WrapPanel Aside from being an ugly hack, this does not play at all well with linebreaks - the layout is incorrect. It would also make the underline style of linked text into a broken line. Here's an example with each word in its own TextBlock. It has the same problems as the approach above, since it's much the same. Try running the sample, and make the link text longer and longer until it wraps. Note that the link starts on a new line, which it shouldn't. Make the link text even longer, so that the link text is longer than a line. Note that it doesn't wrap at all, it cuts off. This control doesn't handle line breaks and paragraph breaks either. Why not put the text all in runs, detect clicks on the containing TextBlock and work out which run was clicked Runs do not have mouse events, but the containing TextBlock does. I can't find a way to check if the run is under the mouse (IsMouseOver is not present in SilverLight) or to find the bounding geometry of the run (no clip property). There is VisualTreeHelper.FindElementsInHostCoordinates() The code below uses VisualTreeHelper.FindElementsInHostCoordinates to get the controls under the click. Too long and the "linebreak" will be on the following line, with content after it. You would have to resize the breaks when the control is resized.   I have a viewmodel that has an int StateID field and a string StateName field like so: public class DepartmentViewModel : BaseViewModel, IModelWithId { // only show in edit mode public int StateId { get; set; } // only show in display mode public string StateName { get; set; } } I have a read only view that uses DisplayForModel and an update view that uses EditorForModel. I want the DisplayForModel view to show the StateName property, and the EditorForModel view use the StateID property (I am actually rendering a dropdownlist based on this). I have not been able to figure out how to decorate my viewmodel properties to create this behavior.

• WPF RichTextBox - Formatting of typed text

  I am applying formatting to selected tokens in a WPF RichTextBox. To do this I get a TextRange that encompasses the token that I would like to highlight. I will then change the color of the text like this: textRange.ApplyPropertyValue(TextElement.ForegroundProperty, Brushes.Blue); This is happening on the TextChanged event of my RichTextBox. The formatting is applied as expected, but continuing to type text will result in the new text inheriting the formatting that has already been applied to the adjacent word. I would like the formatting of any new text to use the default formatting options defined in the RichTextBox properties. Is this possible? Alternatively I could highlight all tokens that I don't want be blue with the default formatting options but this feels awkward to me.

• Can't define static abstract string property

  I've run into an interesting problem and am looking for some suggestions on how best to handle this... I have an abstract class that contains a static method that accepts a static string that I would like to define as an abstract property. Problem is that C# doesn't doesn't support the following (see the ConfigurationSectionName and Current properties): public abstract class ProviderConfiguration : ConfigurationSection { private const string _defaultProviderPropertyName = "defaultProvider"; private const string _providersPropertyName = "providers"; protected static string ConfigurationSectionName { get; } public static Configuration Current { get { return Configuration)ConfigurationManager.GetSection(ConfigurationSectionName); } } } I suppose one way to handle this would be to make ConfigurationSectionName NOT abstract and then create a new definition of ConfigurationSectionName in the derived classes, but that feels pretty hackish. • Fluent NHibernate OptimisticLock.None() causes "The string 'none' is not a valid Boolean value."

  I'm using the following mapping: public class LoadMap : IAutoMappingOverride<Load> { public void Override(AutoMapping<Load> mapping) { mapping.HasMany(x => x.Bids).OptimisticLock.None(); mapping.Version(x => x.Version); } } But when I try to create the session I get the following exception: [FormatException: The string 'none' is not a valid Boolean value.] [XmlSchemaValidationException: The 'optimistic-lock' attribute is invalid - The value 'none' is invalid according to its datatype 'http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema:boolean' - The string 'none' is not a valid Boolean value.] I'm using NHibernate 2.1.2.4000 and I was using Fluent NHibernate 1.0RTM, but tried the latest build 636 just to be sure this isn't something that was fixed recently or something. As a side note, in case I'm doing this all wrong, I would like to be able to make changes to the .Bids list without incrementing Version. I saw an example on Ayende's blog that did what I wanted with properties.
