• Shift+Tab not working in TreeView control

  I cannot get backwards navigation using Shift+Tab to work in a TreeView that contains TextBoxs, forward navigation using Tab works fine and jump from TextBox to TextBox inside the TreeView. Anytime Shift+Tab is used when one of the TextBoxes inside the TreeView, then the focus is move to the previous control outside the TreeView, instead of the previous control inside the TreeView. Also its only Shift+Tab navigation that are not working correctly, Ctrl+Shift+Tab work as expected and in the correct order. Any suggestions to what I'm doing wrong? • Placing a window near the system tray

  I am writing a program that needs to set a window just above/below the traybar for gtk. I have tried using the 2 approaches that failed. One was using the gtk_status_icon_position_menu function and placing the window in the point where the user clicks (in the tray bar). The problem is that these solutions work in gnome(Linux) but not in Windows. In Linux they work because the window manager doesn't seem to allow placement of windows in the tray panel, honoring the closest possible. In Windows this doesn't happen and the window can go "out" of the screen which understandably is not desired. With this said i went out for a work around. My idea was to set the window in the location of mouse click and get the x and y coordinates of a normal window placement and with it's size check if it would be within the screen boundaries. If it was not make the correction. I have came up with the functions needed but for some reason the gdk_drawable_get_size(window-window ,&WindowWidth, &WindowHeight) and other similar functions only give the correct size value after the second run of the signal function. The result of the first run is just 1 to both size and width. • Problem measuring N times the execution time of a code block

  EDIT: I just found my problem after writing this long post explaining every little detail... If someone can give me a good answer on what I'm doing wrong and how can I get the execution time in seconds (using a float with 5 decimal places or so), I'll mark that as accepted. Hint: The problem was on how I interpreted the clock_getttime() man page. Hi, Let's say I have a function named myOperation that I need to measure the execution time of. To measure it, I'm using clock_gettime() as it was recommend here in one of the comments. My teacher recommends us to measure it N times so we can get an average, standard deviation and median for the final report. He also recommends us to execute myOperation M times instead of just one. If myOperation is a very fast operation, measuring it M times allow us to get a sense of the "real time" it takes; cause the clock being used might not have the required precision to measure such operation. So, execution myOperation only one time or M times really depends if the operation itself takes long enough for the clock precision we are using. I'm having trouble dealing with that M times execution. Increasing M decreases (a lot) the final average value. Which doesn't make sense to me. It's like this, on average you take 3 to 5 seconds to travel from point A to B. But then you go from A to B and back to A 5 times (which makes it 10 times, cause A to B is the same as B to A) and you measure that. Than you divide by 10, the average you get is supposed to be the same average you take traveling from point A to B, which is 3 to 5 seconds. This is what I want my code to do, but it's not working. If I keep increasing the number of times I go from A to B and back A, the average will be lower and lower each time, it makes no sense to me. I don't understand why the value is getting lower and lower when I increase OPERATIONS. The operation itself should take the same time (on average of course, not the exact same time), no matter how many times I execute it. You could tell me that that actually depends on the operation itself, the data being read and that some data could already be in the cache and bla bla, but I don't think that's the problem. In my case, myOperation is reading 5000 lines of text from an CSV file, separating the values by ; and inserting those values into a data structure. For each iteration, I'm destroying the data structure and initializing it again. Now that I think of it, I also that think that there's a problem measuring time with clock_gettime(), maybe I'm not using it right. I mean, look at the last example, where OPERATIONS = 10000. The total time it took was 574133641ns, which would be roughly 0,5s; that's impossible, it took a couple of minutes as I couldn't stand looking at the screen waiting and went to eat something.

  Looking at the document, the goal is to select the second cell from the second row, in the first table. I've created the following expression: //row/td[2]/text()[td[@class="identifier"]/span[text()="identifier"]] but it does not return any rows. Unfortunately I do not see what's wrong. To me, it looks alright. The expression should: select the text in the second cell in any row where the text of a span equals to "identifier" and the span is located in cell with a "identifier" class I'd appreciate it if you could point out what I'm doing wrong. • Zend_Form validation problem

  I am having problems getting validation to work for a form built using Zend_Form. The idea is this: I have two dropdown. One is a list of players. The other is a list of free agents who play the same position as the player. I am using an onChange javascript callback to run some Ajax code that replaces the free agent list dropdown with a new one at the position of the player they've selected from the player dropdown. Now, perhaps this is the wrong way, but I built the form by creating an instance of Zend_Form and then creating all these setX methods that add elements to the form. My reasoning was that I wanted to display certain elements in specific places on the page, not just output $this-form on my template. The problem appears to be when I get the form post back, the validator seems to not know about the validation rule I set up for the free agent drop down. Here's some relevant code to look at. I'm a relative ZF n00b so feel free to tell me I am not doing things the ZF way if it leaps out at you. • Trouble with copying dictionaries and using deepcopy on an SQLAlchemy ORM object

  Hi there, I'm doing a Simulated Annealing algorithm to optimise a given allocation of students and projects. This is language-agnostic pseudocode from Wikipedia: s ? s0; e ? The following is an adaptation of the technique. My supervisor said the idea is fine in theory. First I pick up some allocation (i.e. an entire dictionary of students and their allocated projects, including the ranks for the projects) from entire set of randomised allocations, copy it and pass it to my function. Let's call this allocation aOld (it is a dictionary). aOld has a weight related to it called wOld. The weighting is described below. The function does the following: Let this allocation, aOld be the best_node From all the students, pick a random number of students and stick in a list Strip (DEALLOCATE) them of their projects ++ reflect the changes for projects (allocated parameter is now False) and lecturers (free up slots if one or more of their projects are no longer allocated) Randomise that list Try assigning (REALLOCATE) everyone in that list projects again Calculate the weight (add up ranks, rank 1 = 1, rank 2 = 2... and no project rank = 101) For this new allocation aNew, if the weight wNew is smaller than the allocation weight wOld I picked up at the beginning, then this is the best_node (as defined by the Simulated Annealing algorithm above). Apply the algorithm to aNew and continue. If wOld < wNew, then apply the algorithm to aOld again and continue. The allocations/data-points are expressed as "nodes" such that a node = (weight, allocation_dict, projects_dict, lecturers_dict) Right now, I can only perform this algorithm once, but I'll need to try for a number N (denoted by kmax in the Wikipedia snippet) and make sure I always have with me, the previous node and the best_node. So that I don't modify my original dictionaries (which I might want to reset to), I've done a shallow copy of the dictionaries. From what I've read in the docs, it seems that it only copies the references and since my dictionaries contain objects, changing the copied dictionary ends up changing the objects anyway. So I tried to use copy.deepcopy().These dictionaries refer to objects that have been mapped with SQLA. Questions: I've been given some solutions to the problems faced but due to my über green-ness with using Python, they all sound rather cryptic to me. Deepcopy isn't playing nicely with SQLA. I've been told thatdeepcopy on ORM objects probably has issues that prevent it from working as you'd expect. Apparently I'd be better off "building copy constructors, i.e. def copy(self): return FooBar(....)." Can someone please explain what that means? I checked and found out that deepcopy has issues because SQLAlchemy places extra information on your objects, i.e. an _sa_instance_state attribute, that I wouldn't want in the copy but is necessary for the object to have. I've been told: "There are ways to manually blow away the old _sa_instance_state and put a new one on the object, but the most straightforward is to make a new object with __init__() and set up the attributes that are significant, instead of doing a full deep copy." What exactly does that mean? Do I create a new, unmapped class similar to the old, mapped one? An alternate solution is that I'd have to "implement __deepcopy__() on your objects and ensure that a new _sa_instance_state is set up, there are functions in sqlalchemy.orm.attributes which can help with that." Once again this is beyond me so could someone kindly explain what it means? A more general question: given the above information are there any suggestions on how I can maintain the information/state for the best_node (which must always persist through my while loop) and the previous_node, if my actual objects (referenced by the dictionaries, therefore the nodes) are changing due to the deallocation/reallocation taking place? That is, without using copy?

• How do we, as a community, help encourage programming in public schools? (Or state Schools for the U

  PRIMARY MOTIVATION My office gets involved with the "First Robotics" competitions and one thing that lingers year to year is the students typically have no preparation for doing even simple programming as part of the public schools system. While the science classes provide some basic grasp of mechanical and electrical concepts, by in large computer programming gets no coverage from the curriculum. (This my be different in other areas of the country/world.) What makes it worse is there is only a short period of time you have to prepare the student's and help them design the robot. Talking to some professors from local colleges, it's a problem because you can't assume even the most basic understanding for freshman CS majors. Languages like Python, Lua and BASIC are simple enough for at least high school level students, if not younger. SCOPE So how do you get public schools to support a programming, at least to the level of "Try it in BASIC" examples that used to be at the end of a chapter in my Algebra book? At least enough to prepare them for event's such as the FIRST Robotic competitions. Which the primary objectives are to teach problem solving and team work, and to possible foster an interest in Math, Science and Engineering in general. (Not force feed to them, as some people her seem to be implying.) Edit: Why teach kids: (Since 2000 CS enrollment in US colleges has decreased by 70% while college enrollment has increased, this is a PROBLEM.) Saying there is no value in teaching someone programming in Jr./High school because they might think "they know programming." Is like saying there's no value in teaching High school science and physics, because they might decide they "know physics." Leading to abuse like: "I passed a high school physics class, I'm going to develop a Unified Quantum Gravitational Theory." Better Prepared students are better students. Instead it would allows college programs to raise the bar on the entry level courses, allowing students to be weeded out based on their understanding of more advanced material. Plus people who did poorly in that in topic in High school aren't as likely to say "I think there's money in computer's so I'll computer science." Plus if people take it in high school and decide THEN that it's not for them, it's better than them wasting their money to PAY a college to figure that out. The result is that people who take the degree are more likely to succeed and be there for the RIGHT reasons. (i.e. It's what they REALLY want to do.   Hi, I need to use ZendAMF on a symfony project and I'm currently working on integrating the two. I have a frontend app with two modules, one of which is 'gateway' - the AMF gateway. Oddly enough, my symfony logs are not being updated as well, which suggests that Synfony is not even being 'reached'. So presumably the error has something to do with Zend, but I have no idea how to figure out what the error could be. One thing I do know for sure is that this is not a file path error, because if I change the path in the following line (a part of frontendConfiguration as shown above), I get a Zend_Amf_Server not found error. So the path must be correct. Also if I comment out this very same line, the second module resumes to normality, and my gateway broadcasts a blank x-amf stream. spl_autoload_register(array('Zend_Loader', 'autoload')); Does anyone have any tips on how I could attach this problem? Thanks P.S. I'm currently running an older version of Zend, which is why I am using Zend_Loader instead of Zend_autoLoader (I think). But I've tried switching to the new lib, but the error still remains. So it's not a version problem as well.

• Why Won't My ASP.NET Hyperlink Work in IE?

  I'm making a very simple ad button system using ASP.NET 2.0 The advertisment is a 150x150px square that is displayed on "the r house." (Scroll down a little and you'll see the bright green "Angry Octopus" on the right side of the screen.) Now, I am not the administrator of "the r house." Instead, I am the administrator of angryoctopus.net Therefore, I don't have the ability to change the ad display code on a whim. So I gave "the r house" this snippet of code to display our ad nicely, while still allowing me to customize the back-end code on my end: <iframe src="http://www.angryoctopus.net/Content/Ad/150x150.aspx" frameborder="0" width="150" height="150" scrolling="no" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;"></iframe> You'll find this snippet in the page source to "the r house." But when you view "the r house" in IE(8) the hyperlink doesn't do anything, and the cursor doesn't indicate that the hyperlink is even there. Although you can see the target URL in the status bar. I've considered the fact that "the r house" uses XHTML 1.0 Strict could be causing problems, but that would probably effect Firefox and Chrome right? (My aspx pages use XHTML 1.0 Transitional) My only other theory is that some random CSS class could be applying a weird attribute to my iframe, but again I would expect that would effect Firefox and Chrome. Is this a security issue with IE? Does anyone know what part of the r house's website could be blocking the hyperlink in IE? And how can I get around this without having to hard code anything on the r house's website? Is there an alternative to iframe that would do the same job without requiring complicated scripting?

• Dynamic object property populator (without reflection)

  I want to populate an object's properties without using reflection in a manner similar to the DynamicBuilder on CodeProject. The CodeProject example is tailored for populating entities using a DataReader or DataRecord. I use this in several DALs to good effect. Now I want to modify it to use a dictionary or other data agnostic object so that I can use it in non DAL code --places I currently use reflection. I know almost nothing about OpCodes and IL. I just know that it works well and is faster than reflection. I have tried to modify the CodeProject example and because of my ignorance with IL, I have gotten stuck on two lines. One of them deals with dbnulls and I'm pretty sure I can just lose it, but I don't know if the lines preceding and following it are related and which of them will also need to go. The other, I think, is the one that pulled the value out of the datarecord before and now needs to pull it out of the dictionary. I think I can replace the "getValueMethod" with my "property.Value" but I'm not sure. I'm open to alternative/better ways of skinning this cat too. • Issues adding search to iPhone app

  Hi, Basically I'm trying to add a search function to my iPhone app, but I'm not having much luck at the moment. I've downloaded the Apple provided Table Search app, and have copied across the code to mine. It builds OK, but here's the problem. Unlike the Apple example, all my data is stored in an array, that is accessed by calling [ciParser.currentArray]. Any ideas on how to change the code to suit my needs? I'm getting an error "Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSRangeException', reason: '* -[NSCFArray objectAtIndex:]: index (0) beyond bounds (0)'" whenever I click on the search bar and the app exits. Below is the code in particular that the debugger highlights as being troublesome. Apparently this error means the database trying to be searched is empty, but I could be wrong. • Why are my Opteron cores running at only 75% capacity each? (25% CPU idle)

  We've just taken delivery of a powerful 32-core AMD Opteron server with 128Gb. We have 2 x 6272 CPU's with 16 cores each. We are running a big long-running java task on 30 threads. We have the NUMA optimisations for Linux and java turned on. Our Java threads are mainly using objects that are private to that thread, sometimes reading memory that other threads will be reading, and very very occasionally writing or locking shared objects. We can't explain why the CPU cores are 25% idle. I had trouble finding a clear explanation of what 'top' means by "idle" versus "wait", but I get the impression that "idle" means "no more threads that need to be run" but this doesn't make sense in our case. We're using a "Executors.newFixedThreadPool(30)". There are a large number of tasks pending and each task lasts for 10 seconds or so. I suspect that the explanation requires a good understanding of NUMA. Is the "idle" state what you see when a CPU is waiting for a non-local access? If not, then what is the explanation?

• Ruby number_to_currency displays a totally wrong number!

  Greetings! I’m an old Delphi programmer making the leap to the Mac, Ruby, Rails, and web programming in general. I’m signed up for the Advanced Rails workshop at the end of the month. In the meantime, I’ve been working on porting a mission-critical (of course) app from Delphi to RAILS. It feels like I’ve spent most of the past year with my head buried in a book or podcast. Right now, I’ve hit a major issue and I’m tearing my hair out. I literally don’t know where to go with this, I desperately don’t want to deploy with this bug, and I’m feeling a bit frantic. (The company database is currently running on an ancient XP box that’s looking rustier by the day.) So, I set up a test database that shows the problem. Then I started testing with production data and hit a major problem with number_to_currency. The number in the database is: 10542.28, I verified it with the MySQL Query Browser. RAILS will display this as 10542.28 unless I call number_to_currency, then that number is displayed as: $15422.80 The error seems to happen with any number between 10,000.00 and 10,999.99 So far, I haven’t seen it outside of that range, but I obviously haven’t tested everything. I guess my workaround is to remove number_to_currency, but that leaves the views looking really sloppy and unprofessional. The formatting is messed up, things don’t line up properly and I can’t force the display to 2 decimal places. I’m seriously hoping there is an easy fix for this. I can’t imagine this being a widespread problem. It would affect so many people that someone would have fixed it! But I don’t know where to go from here. I’d desperately like some help. (Later – number_with_precision fails the same way number_to_currency does.) Sue Petersen

They look like a text field with the "Select a topic..." text. When you select the text it disappears and if you type a character and then delete it the options are shown (i.e. pull down is invoked) however, there is still no pull down arrow. Does anyone know what the issue might be? Or how I can investigate further? Is it possible to see the actual HTML the browser is getting, when I View Page Source I only get the landing page HTML. As an additional I also have a import com.google.gwt.user.client.ui.Grid that does not render correctly. It is in table format but has no grid lines or header bar etc. Cheers, James

• Internet Explorer buggy when accessing a custom weblogic provider

  I've created a custom Weblogic Security Authentication Provider on version 10.3 that includes a custom login module to validate users. As part of the provider, I've implemented the ServletAuthenticationFilter and added one filter. The filter acts as a common log on page for all the applications within the domain. When we access any secured URLs by entering them in the address bar, this works fine in IE and Firefox. But when we bookmark the link in IE an odd thing happens. If I click the bookmark, you will see our log on page, then after you've successfully logged into the system the basic auth page will display, even though the user is already authenticated. This never happens in Firefox, only IE. It's also intermittent. 1 time out of 5 IE will correctly redirect and not show the basic auth window. Firefox and Opera will correctly redirect everytime. We've captured the response headers and compared the success and failures, they are identical. final boolean isAuthenticated = authenticateUser(userName, password, req); // Send user on to the original URL if (isAuthenticated) { res.sendRedirect(targetURL); return; } As you can see, once the user is authenticated I do a redirect to the original URL. Is there a step I'm missing? I have tested against IE 6 & 8 and deployed the custom provider on 3 different environments and I can still reproduce the bug.

• HTML5 Video Tag in Chrome - Why is currentTime ignored when video downloaded from my webserver?

  I want to be able to play back video from a specific time using the HTML5 video tag (and currently only need to worry about Chrome). This is possible by setting the currentTime property of a video element. That works fine in Chrome with a video sourced from html5rocks.com, but is ignored when the same file is loaded from my own local webserver. But if I download the webm file in the source src to my local webserver, and change src to point locally: <source src="chrome_japan.webm" type='video/webm; codecs="vp8, vorbis"'/> ...then setting currentTime is complete ignored. No errors are showing in the developer tools console. Now, my webserver is serving this with mime type "video/webm", but it will be served like any old file -- not streamed. Do I need a webserver that streams in some specific way? What else could be at fault here? Note: The webserver is a proprietary platform and won't have any of the same exact settings or controls one might expect of Tomcat or some other commonly used webserver, though there may be other ways to achieve the same effect.

• How do I display a jquery dialog box before the entire page is loaded?

  On my site a number of operations can take a long time to complete. When I know a page will take a while to load, I would like to display a progress indicator while the page is loading. Ideally I would like to say something along the lines of: $("#dialog").show("progress.php"); and have that overlay on top of the page that is being loaded (disappearing after the operation is completed). Coding the progress bar and displaying progress is not an issue, the issue is getting a progress indicator to pop up WHILE the page is being loaded. I have been trying to use JQuery's dialogs for this but they only appear after the page is already loaded. This has to be a common problem but I am not familiar enough with JavaScript to know the best way to do this. Here's simple example to illustrate the problem. The code below fails to display the dialog box before the 20 second pause is up. I have tried in Chrome and Firefox. In fact I don't even see the "Please Wait..." text. • Angularjs togglecheck error(not working as intended) with prechecked data

  I have this plunker where i have a button that opens a bootstrap modal dialog box. I the modal, when a course is selected(checked) from this list, it adds 3 to the $scope.planned and also increases the progress bar accordingly. Similarly it also reduces in the same way when a checkbox is unchecked.
