  • Apple Mac Software Development

    I'm planning on developing an Apple Mac application which will collect hardware information from the host Mac and also installed software info. The hardware and software info will be collected in an encrypted XML file and then posted back to a website. The application should run as a "service" or background process on the Mac and can be configured to collect the data on a frequent basis defined by another encrypted XML config file. I've done plenty of Windows based software development but never on the Mac. Can anybody point me in the direction of any useful info on how to develop on the Mac, collect hardware and software info, export to an XML file, file encryption and packaging a compiled app to run as a service? Is either Objective C, Cocoa or Ruby a possible option? Many thanks for your help in advance!

    I have created a VBScript which pulls the service tag, username, and computer name from a computer. What I need to do now is compile this information in a text document. How it's set up is as follows: We have an Active Directory Server, with a folder for login scripts. I have created a batch file to run this .vbs script, and the script works well so far. What I now need is for a file on the AD server, called "logging.txt", to be populated with the information that is created with the .vbs script.     i have a problem at work, where i need to simplify the process how i searrh for logs. I would like to ask for help from experts here. We have different services for every channel. The structure is following: - root/channel_1/service_1/2014-05-21/file_54544654541.xml - root/channel_1/server2_2/2014-05-20/file_74272172.xml - root/channel_1/service_3/2014-05-22/file_45456546.xml - root/channel_2/service_4/2014-05-23/file_78754456.xml - root/channel_2/service_5/2014-05-24/file_546546546.xml my main problem is to find particular string in these xml files. Lets say, i know the channel name but i dont know the service name under which my particular string should be present. Also i know the date. So in search i want to enter the channel name the date and string. The search would be going via all service folders and looking for string only in all xml files under particular date folder and particular channel. any ideas for quickest and easiest solution to achieve this? Either by bash or perl? Any help would be appreciated thanks

  • Detect if an app was uninstalled

    Is there a way to get a system notification when an app has been uninstalled? I would like to maintain a table of all clients' info currently using my app. However, that seems impossible if there is no way to detect this event. The first solution I can think of is to have an always running service in the background listening for android.intent.action.PACKAGE_REMOVED. But then would that service be killed once the uninstallation process has ended, or would it be stopped just before the process has kicked off? Also even if this is a solution it's has the potential to put off a lot of people when they realise that part of the app is running in the background. Any suggestions? Thanks!

    I want to assign custom parameters to CMS pages in Magento (i.e. 'about', 'customer service', etc), so they can be grouped. The end goal is to use the parameters for each page to show (or hide) them in a nav menu. Writing a quick method in the page/html block to retrieve the pages (active only) for the menu was easy, but I can't figure out how to group them so that 'testimonials', 'history', and 'contact' are associated with 'about', and 'return policy', 'shipping', and 'contact' are associated with 'customer service'. Any help to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • Limit calls to external database with Python CGI

    I've got a Python CGI script that pulls data from a GPS service; I'd like this information to be updated on the webpage about once every 10s (the max allowed by the GPS service's TOS). But there could be, say, 100 users viewing the webpage at once, all calling the script. I think the users' scripts need to grab data from a buffer page that itself only upates once every ten seconds. How can I make this buffer page auto-update if there's no one directly viewing the content (and not accessing the CGI)? Are there better ways to accomplish this?

    I am facing an issue while connecting to SSIS thru Mangament studio. I'm able to connect to SQL engine, Analysis services but not able to connect to SSIS. I use windows authentication. I tried steps given at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa337083(SQL.90).aspx but no help. On one of the forum I saw that one needs to restart the MSDTC service, Do I need to do that? bcoz my SQL admin said I need to justify it by assuring that it doesn't affect aything else. Moreover we didn't find way to restart the service, where I can do that? please help. Thanks.

I didn't try in web mode yet. Why would I get a null session ? Does it have something to do with spring4gwt ? Thank you

    I'm currently using ShellExecute "open" to open a URL in the user's browser, but running into a bit of trouble in Win7 and Vista because the program runs elevated as a service. When ShellExecute opens the browser, it seems to read the "Local Admin" profile instead of the user's. So for example, if the user at the keyboard has Firefox as his default browser, it may open IE (which is the admin's default). I know that the "runas" verb can be used to elevate, but how do you do it the other way around? Is there a way to open a URL in the default browser on a standard user's desktop from a service?

  • Programmatically closing a dialog box - win32 [migrated]

    I'm working on an application to detect a pop-up dialog and then automatically dismiss it. I'm writing this as a C++/Win32 app. The dialog box is generated by IE 7 and I can detect the window, but several methods to get the OK button to "click" have failed. Doing searches for other people's solutions, sending these messages to the button handle seems to have worked in a lot of situations: PostMessage( handle, WM_LBUTTONDOWN, 0, 0 ); PostMessage( handle, WM_LBUTTONUP, 0, 0 ); PostMessage( handle, BM_SETSTATE, 1, 0 ); It has no effect on the button state in my tests though. I can send tab characters to the main window and see that the OK button gets focus, but then sending return characters does nothing. To learn more about this I used Spy++ to get information about the window hierarchy and what messages are delievered when I manually click the OK button. Looking at the message log and reading about WM_MOUSEACTIVATE seamed to offer a solution. The log info shows that 0002166C was the button window. So in my code I tried this: GetClassNameA( handle, str, str_size ); if( strcmp( str, "Internet Explorer_Server" ) != 0 ) return TRUE; // Not the window we're interested in. // Send a message to activate the button window and have it process a mouse click. PostMessage( handle, WM_MOUSEACTIVATE, (WPARAM) dialog_handle, MAKELPARAM( HTCLIENT, WM_LBUTTONDOWN ); Based on the window hierarchy and message log, I think the window with the class name "Internet Explorer_Server" is the button. Parameter1 will be a string and will contain the name of the workflow to invoke and parameter two will contain the input for the invoked Work Flow. All operations will take the same parameter. All the operations will return the same return value. I have created the service implementation and I would like to depending on the value of parameter1 start executing the appropriate workflow and return the value (There can be number of workflow classes say Operation1, Operation2...which will be the passed in as the value in Parameter1). How can I instantiate different workflow classes and pass parameters and get the return values from them which I should then pass back to the calling Client.     How can I handle timeouts in a network application. I'm implementing a provisioning system on a Linux server, the code is huge so I'm going to put the algorithm, it works as like this Read provisioning commands from file Send it to another server using TCP Save the request in hash. Receive the response then if successful response received then remove request from hash if failed response received then retry the message The problem I'm in now is when the program didn't receive the response for a timeout reason then the request will be waiting for a response forever and won't be retried. And please note that I'll be sending hundreds of commands and I have to monitor the timeout commands for all of them. I tried to use timer but that didn't help because I'll end up with so many waiting timers and I'm not sure if this is a good way of doing this. The question is how can I save the message in some data structure and check to remove or retry it later when there is no response from the other end? Please note that I'm willing to change the algorithm to anything you suggest that could deal with the timeouts.

    Hello! My FTP client (apache commons ftpclient) needs to download file from FTP. The problem is that an external service may not have finished writing to this file before I start downloading. Is there any way to determine via FTP whether the file is already closed (i.e. there is no writing handlers opened)? The problem is that I cannot synchronize with that external service. But I mustn't download file which is not finished yet (a large JPEG). Thanks in advance!
