  I installed Ubuntu 11.10 on VBox. The VBox settings I use have been tried and proven for countless other installs I have done in the past. Those are still up and running. On my latest install of Ubuntu 11.10 on Vbox, things were working well in the initially - I installed Guest Additions and everything was fine. All of a sudden (I was just moving my mouse), I get an accessed denied error that freezes my entire Ubuntu environment. I close the virtual machine and restart it, but now I keep getting this error message: Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  I recently installed windows 7 on my pc and I have been unsuccessfully trying to install ubuntu 12.04 on it. I used to have dual boot system before both with windows and linux. I changed my hard drive from ide to ahci (default option) burned the ubuntu cd properly (not the .iso file) using the ubuntu 12.04 distribution I downloaded from the official site, set boot priority to cd/dvd but.. Nothing. It tries to boot from the cd, doesn't manage and turn to boot from the hard drive. I also tried wubi. I opened it through windows, got the window that asks me to choose "demo and installation" or "more on ubuntu" (something like that), I choose the first option, reboot manually my computer and it keeps returning on windows mode and doesn't boot from the cd. What can I do? Thanks!

  I have been trying to install Ubuntu on my PC for some time now. I tried wubi, but am unable to get it right. Then, I downloaded the ISO and tried to install it on an empty without partitioning, but the keyboard acts wierd and goes on typing automatically one particular letter that was typed while trying to enter IPv4 settings (2222222222 or ............, etc...) and also I get an error about some fsyncing\sdk\resourses something like that. Please help me. UPDATE: I managed to install it but I get a blank screen after logging in. Just the wallpaper shows up! Help me.

  I installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS using Wubi in the D: drive of my PC. I have Vista installed in the C: drive. I have forgotten my password for my Ubuntu Admin Account. I only have only access to the Guest login. Please note, I don't see any GRUB menu and get only Vista & Ubuntu as options while booting. I can't get into Recovery Mode of Ubuntu using Shift, ESC or any other way. Please let me know how to reset the password.

• Getting trayer to work with dual screen setup

  I'm using XMonad as my window manager, and want to use trayer as a icon panel for things like nm-applet. The problem was that the panel wouldn't appear on the top of the screen. If I set it to the bottom it just appeared. After a lot of trying, I found out it is because my xorg.conf is setup for dualscreens, and probably the trayer panel is spawned outside my view (I currently have only a single screen, but I switch a lot). After manualy tweaking the xorg.conf file to allow for just one screen, the panel appears on the right spot.   I'm using ubuntu 12.04 and I always keep my pc up to date. For last 4 or 5 weeks, I noticed in firefox, the page displays enough data but spinner in the tab doesn't stop. Not only that, Some page load very quickly and wheel still speaning. Some are very very slow and wheel is as always speaning. Some websites (ex. google analytics) takes more than 5 minutes to load. Some websites load but slider doesnt load and wheel is speaning (ex. blenderdesh.com) I'm facing lot of problems for this. Please help me.....

• best cloud storage + rsnapshot

  I’ve started using rsnapshot as my backup system for home PC. I really like the idea of hard links and how they are handled. But can’t find best workflow. Currently I keep my snapshots on the same partition and let’s say, copy newest one to a pendrive at the end of the week. Cloud storage is what I’m looking for. As of rsnapshot, Dropbox doesn’t fit my needs. More over there is no way to make it respect hard links — all snapshots are treated as a full snapshot. Renting a server is pretty expensive so my question is, are there better alternatives for backup in the cloud? I would like to benefit from hard links and send only incremental backups, just like in my local host.

  I'm having problems both with bluetooth and wifi, my pc is a Lenovo B5400. The BT can do a scan, but it isn't able to find any devices; I don't see any wifi network (but I have a working Ethernet connection). I read many topics on the internet but before trying different solutions and make some changes (I just installed Ubuntu 14.04) I would firstly try to understand what could the problem depend on.   I'm using ubuntu 12.04 and python 2.7.3-0ubuntu2 is already installed. I have a problem during installing mayavi2 from ubuntu software center. Error message is : Package dependencies cannot be resolved This error could be caused by required additional software packages which are missing or not installable. Furthermore there could be a conflict between software packages which are not allowed to be installed at the same time. Details: The following packages have unmet dependencies mayavi2: Depends: python-numpy (= 1:1.6.1) but 1:1.6.1-6ubuntu1 is to be installed Depends: python-numpy-abi9 but it is a virtual package Depends: python (< 2.8) but 2.7.3-0ubuntu2 is to be installed Depends: python-vtk (= 5.4.2-5) but 5.8.0-5 is to be installed I've searched to solve this problem for a long time but I didn't solve yet. • Screen dims & freezes me out

  New to Ubuntu 12.04 (used since 8th April). I have recently been using Firefox for an online course and while working on this virtual PC site, the screen dims and I am frozen out of interacting with my desktop. (I cannot switch to any other tabs in Firefox). Power setting set to suspend after 30 mins. The desktop is connected to the mains. Moving the cursor around appears to have no effect. • Ubuntu 12.04 Server monitor goes into sleep mode (no display) after fresh install

  For some reason I can boot and either use Ubuntu 12.04 server edition, or desktop version. I can live boot the disk, I can go through the installer, or even use the ubuntu alternate installer. But for some reason after the install completes and I reboot the monitor seems to go back into sleep mode and then never loads the command prompt. This is on an industrial adlink MXE-1300 PC. I've installed ubuntu server fine on other models of adlink machines but this one doesn't want to seem to play nice. To me it seems like if it was a video card issue than I could never even load the installer or run ubuntu in live mode. Any thoughts or troubleshooting tips would be greatly appreciated.

  I am using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on an Asus Eee PC 1000HA. Since I upgraded to 12.04, I have had problems connecting to wifi. When I fly, I need to disable wifi. When I try to reconnect, the "enable networking" option is no longer available. If I type in the terminal "rfkill list", the following shows up: 0: eeepc-wlan: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: yes Hard blocked: no If I type "rfkill unblock all", "enable networking" will become available and I am able to connect to wifi. How can I permanently remove this annoying Soft Block? I don't want to be typing up two lines of code. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• One subdomain is not working

  Hello there, My main domain works just fine - www.example.com and a subdomain set up by another developer works as well - sub1.example.com. But when I try to set another subdomain up I go through the process everything seems to work. The software creates the default files where the subdomain files should go. But when I try to browse there it doesn't work. My host uses Plesk to do all of the hosting stuff. What do you think the problem is? I doubt it is some sort of cache issue because I had problems on my phone which I tried after problems on the pc. Maybe for some reason Plesk needs time to set this up? I have used Cpanel before and that works instantly.

• What is the most secure environment for multiple CMS sites? [closed]

  I wish to run about 50 Joomla or WordPress low-traffic websites on 1 server, or part of a server. Each website will be managed by its own, naive owner who will have be able to access the Joomla or Wordpress backend of the website. I am concerned about security and isolation as my users will periodically get into trouble by not protecting their sites properly. Two alternatives I know of exist: Run one Linux system with multiple websites under Apache. Follow current Joomla and WordPress security tips. Increase the isolation of the individual sites by using mpm-itk, which will allow each website to run as its own user. The alternative to this is to run virtualization software such as the Xen hypervisor. Each site would have its own, virtual Linux system. I lack the experience needed to make this decision and I am asking which path to take. Obviously, there may be other alternatives that I haven't considered.
