F# and .Net versions

I'm writing a program in F# at the moment, which I specified in the Visual Studio project setup to target .Net 3.5, this being the highest offered, on the theory that I might as well get the best available. Then I tried just now running the compiled program on an XP box, not expecting it to work, but just to see what would happen. Unsurprisingly I just got an error message demanding an appropriate version of the framework, but surprisingly it wasn't 3.5 it demanded, but 2.0.50727. An additional puzzle is the version of MSBuild I'm using to compile the release version of the program, which I found in the framework 3.5 directory but claims to be framework 2.0 and build engine 3.5. I just guessed it was the right version of MSBuild to use because it seemed to correspond with the highest framework version F# seems to be able to target, but should I be using a different version? Anyone have any idea what's going on? x-dom-event-stream in Opera 10 Only Working on First Event

I have a python script (in the CherryPy framework) that sends Event: and data: text as this Opera blog post describes to a client browser. The javascript that recieves the x-dom-event-stream content is almost identical to what they show in the blog post. However, the browser displays only the first event sent. Anyone know what I'm missing? I tried a few older versions of Opera and found that it works in Opera 9.52 but not in any newer versions. What did they change? Guaranteed way to find the ildasm.exe and ilasm.exe files regardless of .NET version/environment?

Is there a way to programmatically get the FileInfo/Path of the ildasm.exe/ilasm.exe executables? I'm attempting to decompile and recompile a dll/exe file appropriately after making some alterations to it (I'm guessing PostSharp does something similar to alter the IL after the compilation). I found a blog post that pointed to: var pfDir = Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolders.ProgramFiles)); var sdkDir = Path.Combine(pfDir, @"Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0A\bin"); ... However, when I ran this code the directory did not exist (mainly because my SDK version is 7.1), so on my local machine the correct path is @"Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.1\bin". How do I ensure I can actually find the ildasm.exe? Similarly, I found another blog post on how to get access to ilasm.exe as: string windows = Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.System); string fwork = Path.Combine(windows, @"..\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727"); ... While this works, I noticed that I have Framework and Framework64, and within Framework itself I have all of the versions up to v4.0.30319 (same with Framework64). So, how do I know which one to use? Should it be based on the .NET Framework version I'm targetting? Summary: How do I appropriately guarantee to find the correct path to ildasm.exe? How do I appropriately select the correct ilasm.exe to compile?

Loading a javascript library in javax.script?

I want to run Protovis javascript from Java and get the evaluated SVG code. (Incidentally, I know of examples that use Rhino to do this from the Google discussion group.)

express+jade: provided local variable is undefined in view (node.js + express + jade)

Hello. I'm implementing a webapp using node.js and express, using the jade template engine. Templates render fine, and can access helpers and dynamic helpers, but not local variables other than the "body" local variable, which is provided by express and is available and defined in my layout.jade. This is some of the code: app.set ('view engine', 'jade'); app.get ("/test", function (req, res) { res.render ('test', { locals: { name: "jake" } }); }); and this is test.jade: p hello =name when I remove the second line (referencing name), the template renders correctly, showing the word "hello" in the web page. When I include the =name, it throws a ReferenceError: 500 ReferenceError: Jade:2 NaN. 'p hello' NaN. '=name' name is not defined NaN. 'p hello' NaN. '=name' I believe I'm following the jade and express examples exactly with respect to local variables. Am I doing something wrong, or could this be a bug in express or jade?

Ordering view by highest group count question - Ruby on Rails

I've read the couple of questions about this on stack overflow but can't seem to find the answer. I am trying to display the tags in my blog by the ones with the highest count in the tags table. Thanks to KandadaBoggu for helping me get the tags feature of the blog I am designing working. Here is the basics and my question. Tag belongs_to :post and Post has_many :tags. The tags table is simple really, consisting of the normal scaffolded fields plus post_id and tag_name (I actually called the column 'tag_name' instead of just 'name'). in my /views/posts/index.html/erb file I correctly am displaying the tags by group and the amount of times they are being used (appearing in the tags table). I just want to know how to order them by the highest count. IIS: How to get the Metabase path?

i'm trying to get the list of mime types known to an IIS server (which you can see was asked and and answered by me 2 years ago). Which sounds to me like it is some sort of "path" to a "metabase". He says that the path to the metabase could be something else; and he gives an example of what it could be like. Right now i, and the entire planet, are hardcoding the "MetabasePath" as iis://localhost/MimeMap What should it really be? What should the code be doing to construct a valid MetabasePath? Note: i'm not getting an access denied error, the error is the same when you have an invalid MetabasePath, e.g. iis://localhost/SoTiredOfThis

Posting source code in blogger- fails with C# containers

I tried the solutions that are posted in this related SO question and for the most part the code snippets are working, but there are some cases that are still getting garbled by Blogger when it publishes the blog. In particular, declaring generic containers seems to be most troublesome. Please see the code examples on my blog and in particular the section where I define the dictionary (http://mlai-lirik.blogspot.com/). I want to display this: static Dictionary<int, List<Delegate>> _delegate = new Dictionary<int,List<Delegate>>(); But blogger publishes this: static Dictionary<int, list=""><delegate>> _delegate = new Dictionary<int, list=""><delegate>>(); And it caps the end of my code section with this: </delegate></delegate></int,></delegate></int,> Apparently blogger thinks that the <int and <delegate> portion of the dictionary are some sort of HTML tags and it automatically attempts to close them at the end of the code snippet. Does anybody know how to get around this problem?

Maintain denormalized data with NHibernate EventListener

I have one bit of denormalized data used for performance reasons and I'm trying to maintain the data with an NHibernate event listener rather than a trigger. I'm not convinced this is the best approach, but I'm neck deep into it and I want to figure this out before moving on. What vertex shader code should be used for a pixel shader used for simple 2D SpriteBatch drawing in XNA?

Preface First of all, why is a vertex shader required for a SilverlightEffect (.slfx file) in Silverlight 5? I'm trying to port a simple 2D XNA game to Silverlight 5 RC, and I would like to use a basic pixel shader. This shader works great in XNA for Windows and Xbox, but I can't get it to compile with Silverlight as a SilverlightEffect. The MS blog for the Silverlight Toolkit says that "there is no difference between .slfx and .fx", but apparently this isn't quite true -- or at least SpriteBatch is working some magic for us in "regular XNA", and it isn't in "Silverlight XNA". If I try to directly copy my pixel shader file into a Silverlight project (and change it to the supported "Effect - Silverlight" importer/processor), when I try to compile I see the following error message: Invalid effect file. Unable to find vertex shader in pass "P0" Indeed, there isn't a vertex shader in my pixel shader file. I haven't needed one with my other 2D XNA apps since I'm just doing basic SpriteBatch drawing. I tried adding a vertex shader to my shader file, using Remi Gillig's comment on this Shawn Hargreaves blog post for guidance, but it doesn't quite work. The shader file successfully compiles, and I see some semblance of my game on screen, but it's tiny, twisted, repeated, and all jumbled up. So clearly something's not quite right. The Real Question So that brings me to my real question: Since a vertex shader is required, is there a basic vertex shader function that works for simple 2D SpriteBatch drawing? And if the vertex shader requires world/view/project matricies as parameters, what values am I supposed to use for a 2D game? Can any shader pros help? Thanks!

CSS gradients in IE7 & IE8 is causing text to become aliased

I'm attempting to use a CSS gradient in a div containing some text. With Gecko and Webkit, the text displays fine. In IE7 & IE8 the text appears aliased (jaggy). I came across this blog stating: "we decided to disable ClearType on elements that use any DXTransform". IE Blog: http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2006/08/31/730887.aspx That was back in 2006; 3.5 years later, I assume this bug would be fixed, but it's not. Is there a way to do this in IE8 without resorting to stuffing a repeating background image in the div? How to not pass around the container when using IoC in Winforms

I'm new to the world of IoC and having a problem with implementing it in a Winforms application. I have an extremely basic application Winform application that uses MVC, it is one controller that does all the work and a working dialog (obviously with a controller). So I load all my classes in to my IoC container in program.cs and create the main form controller using the container. But this is where I am having problems, I only want to create the working dialog controller when it's used and inside a using statement. At first I passed in the container but I've read this is bad practice and more over the container is a static and I want to unit test this class. So how do you create classes in a unit test friendly way without passing in the container, I was considering the abstract factory pattern but that alone would solve my problem without using the IoC. I'm not using any famous framework, I borrowed a basic one from this blog post http://www.kenegozi.com/Blog/2008/01/17/its-my-turn-to-build-an-ioc-container-in-15-minutes-and-33-lines.aspx How do I do this with IoC? Is this the wrong use for IoC?

How to mock the Request.ServerVariables using MOQ for ASP.NET MVC?

hi guys, i'm just learning to put in unit testing for my asp.net mvc when i came to learn about the mock and the different frameworks there is out there now. after checking SO, i found that MOQ seems to be the easiest to pick up. as of now i'm stuck trying to mock the Request.ServerVariables, as after reading this post, i've learned that it's better to abstract them into property. as such: /// <summary> /// Return the server port /// </summary> protected string ServerPort { get { return Request.ServerVariables.Get("SERVER_PORT"); } } But i'm having a hard time learning how to properly mock this. I have a home controller ActionResult function which grabs the user server information and proceed to create a form to grab the user's information. i tried to use hanselman's mvcmockhelpers class but i'm not sure how to use it. this is what i have so far... Need help choosing database server

Good day everyone. Recently I was given a task to develop an application to automate some aspects of stocks trading. While working on initial architecture, the database dilemma emerged. What I need is a fast database engine which can process huge amounts of data coming in very fast. I'm fairly experienced in general programming, but I never faced a task of developing a high-load database architecture. I developed a simple MSSQL database schema with several many-to-many relationships during one of my projects, but that's it. What I'm looking for is some advice on choosing the most suitable database engine and some pointers to various manuals or books which describe high-load database development. Specifics of the project are as follows: OS: Windows NT family (Server 2008 / 7) Primary platform: .NET with C# Database structure: one table to hold primary items and two or three tables with foreign keys to the first table to hold additional information. Database SELECT requirements: Need super-fast selection by foreign keys and by combination of foreign key and one of the columns (presumably DATETIME) Database INSERT requirements: The faster the better :) If there'll be significant performance gain, some parts can be written in C++ with managed interfaces to the rest of the system. So once again: given all that stuff I just typed, please give me some advice on what the best database for my project is. Links or references to some manuals and books on the subject are also greatly appreciated. EDIT: I'll need to insert 3-5 rows in 2 tables approximately once in 30-50 milliseconds and I'll need to do SELECT with 0-2 WHERE clauses queries with similar rate.

wordpress conditional statements

I am using this code in wordpress to display different content when different pages are loaded. I have 5 pages on the site called Home, Bio, Work, Contact and Notes. The Notes page is being used as a blog. Here is the code I am using. <?php if (is_page('contact')) { ?> get in touch with me <?php } elseif (is_single()) { ?> a note from me <?php } elseif (is_page('notes')) { ?> the notes of me <?php } else { ?> the <?php the_title(); ?> of me <?php } ?> So if it the contact page, it displays "get in touch with me" and if it is a single blog post page it displays "a note from me". However this is where I have a problem. The next statement should display "the notes of me" when it is on the Notes page. However, this does not happen. Instead it shows the default content which is in the "else" statement. any idea on why this is happening?

It scrolls to row1. If I come back to this first form again,by pressing the back button, the row is reset to 1. gSelectedPlant takes a value 1 and selectedindex = 0. This makes sense but I am not yet able to figure out how to maintain the value of gSelectedPlant. Yes it takes a null intitally but on databindingcomplete it becomes 1.

Hi, I'm trying to get a two class java calculator working (new to java) to work but so far i'm having no success. the two classes are outlined below, calcFrame is for the interface and calEngine should do the actual calculations but i can't get them to talk to one another. i'd really appreciate any assistance on same. How to use the Request URL/URL Rewriting For Localization in ASP.NET - Using an HTTP Module or Globa

I wanted to see if there is a way to use the request URL/URL rewriting to set the language a page is rendered in by examining a portion of the URL in ASP.NET. We have a site that already works with ASP.NET’s resource localization and user’s can change the language that they see pages/resources on the site in, however the current mechanism in not very search engine friendly since the language variations for each language all appear as one page. It would be much better if we could have pages like www.site.com/en-mx/realfolder/realpage.aspx that allow linking to culture specific versions of a page. I know lots of people have likely done localization through URL structures before and I wanted to know if one of your could share how to do this in the Global.asax file or with an HTTP Module (pointing to links to blog postings would be great too). We have a restriction that the site is based on ASP.NET 2.0 (so we can't used the 3.5+ features yet). Here is the example scenario: A real page exits at: www.site.com/realfolder/realpage.aspx The page has a mechanism for the user to change the language it is displayed in via a dropdown. There are search engine optimization and user links sharing benefits to doing this since people can link directly to a page that has content that is applicable to a certain language (this could also include right-to-left layouts for languages like Japanese). I would like to use an HTTP module to see if the first part of the URL after www.site.com, site.com, subdomain.site.com, etc. contains a valid culture code (e.g. en-us, es-mx) then use that value to set the localization culture of the page/resources based on that URL. So if the user accesses the URL www.site.com/en-MX/realfolder/realpage.aspx Then the page will render in Mexico’s variant of Spanish. If the user goes to www.site.com/realfolder/realpage.aspx directly the page would just use their browser’s language settings.

Eclipse Maven web application - can not run on server anymore

I have an maven eclipse webapp project that I was able to right click and 'Run on server' and it would deploy on tomcat. I recently did a 'maven - Update project conifgurations' and I now can NOT deploy and run the project as a webapp. Has anyone seen this before? The only output from tomcat is as follows - it doesnt even look like its trying to deploy the application. And Searching. Searching "Bob First" should not return any classes. Please modify the above query or suggest a new query, if possible using MyIsam - fulltext search, but somehow help me get the result.

MS Access: Why is ADODB.Recordset.BatchUpdate so much slower than Application.ImportXML?

I'm trying to run the code below to insert a whole lot of records (from a file with a weird file format) into my Access 2003 database from VBA. After many, many experiments, this code is the fastest I've been able to come up with: it does 10000 records in about 15 seconds on my machine. At least 14.5 of those seconds (ie. almost all the time) is in the single call to UpdateBatch. I've read elsewhere that the JET engine doesn't support UpdateBatch. So maybe there's a better way to do it. Now, I would just think the JET engine is plain slow, but that can't be it. After generating the 'testy' table with the code below, I right clicked it, picked Export, and saved it as XML. Then I right clicked, picked Import, and reloaded the XML. Total time to import the XML file? Less than one second, ie. at least 15x faster. Surely there's an efficient way to insert data into Access that doesn't require writing a temp file? Replace delimited block of text in file with the contents of another file

I need to write a simple script to replace a block of text in a configuration file with the contents of another file. Let's assume with have the following simplified files: server.xml <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?> <Server port="8005" shutdown="SHUTDOWN"> <Service name="Catalina"> <Connector port="80" protocol="HTTP/1.1"/> <Engine name="Catalina" defaultHost="localhost">  <sometags/> <sometags/>  <Host name="localhost" appBase="webapps"/> </Engine> </Service> </Server> realm.xml <Realm className="org.apache.catalina.realm.UserDatabaseRealm" resourceName="UserDatabase"/> I want to run a script and have realm.xml replace the contents between the  and  lines. If realm.xml changes then whenever the script is run again it will replace the lines again with the new contents of realm.xml. This is intended to be run in /etc/init.d/tomcat on startup of the service on multiple installations on which the realm is going to be different. I'm not so sure how can I do this simply with awk or sed.
