  • GCC without Xcode on OS X

    I've just unwrapped my new MacBook Pro (yay!) and am now setting it up properly for development. Since I want to avoid clutter, I'm wondering if I really need to install the Xcode tools at all (I never use the IDE or Mac specific tools), since I'll install a newer version of GCC anyway, using MacPorts. So, is there any benefit in installing Xcode? Is it necessary? What kind of set-up does it do behind the scenes? Basically: can I skip this or will it come back to haunt me because some Unix development tools just assume that OS X is always set up in this way?

    Hello, I can't make python bindings for webdriver workable. Here is tutorial for installing. easy_install webdriver Won't find webdriver package so I have to install it manually from sources.   • Which audio library to use?

    I want to build a .Net application for processing audio, and distribute it using ClickOnce deployment. I need access to a raw audio pipeline. Which audio library should I be using? I've heard the managed libraries for DirectSound are a dead end. I need as little as possible to be installed on the client's machine. Anything outside of the ClickOnce process isn't going to work. NAudio might be a possibility, but isn't there potentially a separate driver install? There's also SlimDX. It's a shame -- the managed DirectX libraries seem to work nicely and from what I've read, DirectX can be included in the ClickOnce install.

Please install the mysql adapter: 'gem install activerecord-mysql-adapter' <can't activate mysql <~> 2.8.1>, already activated mysql-2.9.0-x86-mingw32. Make sur all dependancies are added to Gemfile.>** Have installed mysql gem and copied libmysql.dll file to Ruby193/bin (Phpmyadmin and xampp also works good). Please help me to solve this issue.

(non commercial preferred since it's just for experimentation) The idea is to allow a user to say something from a website then whatever he/she says will show up on the screen (as text) I've read about many available softwares ranging from Microsoft Speech, Sphinx, Julius etc just not sure which one will perform best and easiest to install.     I have "white nights" trying to install Hebrew/Arabic fonts on my level 7 (API 2.1) aka Nexus emulator. I can't understand why Google guys will want to waist my skills do something helpful for the community using Hebrew/Arabic fonts. After rw mount/remount I can do it for level 3 devices, but for Nexus - nada! Why? What can be done? Real devices guys already broke this peace of hardware, but I am sitting and looking wide eyes open like a sheep. Please make me happy and give the chance to install the fonts.   • Blend 4 breaks VS2010 for Silverlight

    Hi, I had VS2010 running fine with Silverlight development. Then I installed Expression Blend 4. Now when I run VS2010 and try to debug a silverlight app I get an error saying "Unable to start debugging. The silverlight developer runtime is not installed. Please install a matching version." I've tried uninstalling silverlight tools, and reinstalling them from scratch (the latest april version). But I still get the same message. So basically I'm now unable to do VS2010 SL development. I'm on the verge of just rolling back to my last system restore point and giving up on Blend. But if I do that I'd be worried that Product Activation would never allow me to reinstall it in the future, since the MSDN download page implies I'm only ever allowed to install it on a single machine. Any help appreciated. Thanks

    I am attempting to open a Crystal Reports 8.5 document, and when I try to set the database to the Production data server, i get the error "Pdssql.dll cannot be found". Googling, this is a common problem, but none of the fixes I tried seem to work. This is a new computer. I do have SQL Server 2008 client tools installed, but I believe previously I had Sql Server 2005 client tools. I attempted to install the SQL Server 2005 client tools, but that didn't go through due to me having 2008 installed. I require 2008 to do my job now. Everything I search for says this is a 16bit driver, and I need to install the 2005 client tools. Unfortunately this cannot be done due to me having 2008. is there some sort of work-around I can do?     My application requires the .NET Framework version 3.5. I recently ran into a customer that had the .NET Framework installed but turned off. In this case, my installer (InstallShield 2009) does not prompt the user to install the Framework (because it is already installed) and when my application runs it crashes immediately. I tried another .NET application and it also crashes immediately. Is there any way to detect this situation and handle it more gracefully? Just detecting this during install is not ideal since the .NET Framework can be turned off at any time. Ideally, the application would be able to check and display a friendly message to the user telling them they need to turn on the .NET Framework.

    Folks, I am creating an installer project in Visual Studio. This is done using a project of type "Setup and Deployment". I lay out the file structure of my final install in the "File System" View of the project. Now, some of the files I create as part of my install are updated while my application is used. I would like these files to not be removed during an uninstall of my application. Is there any way in Visual Studio to designate a file as "protected from uninstall"? Thanks for your help.

    Hi guys. I (sadly) have to deploy a rails application on Windows XP which has to connect to Microsoft SQL Server 2005. Surfing in the web there are a lot of hits for connect from Linux to SQL Server, but cannot find out how to do it from Windows. Basically I followed these steps: Install dbi gem Install activerecord-sql-server-adapter gem My database.yml now looks like this: development: adapter: sqlserver mode: odbc dsn: test_dj host: HOSTNAME\SQLEXPRESS database: test_dj username: guest password: guest But I'm unable to connect it. When I run rake db:migrate I get IM002 (0) [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified I'm not a Windows user, so cannot understand really well the meaning of dsn element or so. Does someone have an idea how to solve this?     Hi there. I'm trying to install SugarCRM version 5.5.1. on a webhost. Everything goes nice until the step when the installation begins. The output is this one: Creating Sugar configuration file (config.php) Creating Sugar application tables, audit tables and relationship metadata ............. And never moves on! I check the database and can see that there are tables missing. The install.log file doesnt have any errors, and the last line in the file is: 2010-04-27 22:17:03...creating Relationship Meta for Bug It seems the installation stopped here, but i cant get why!   • Automated builds of BizTalk 2009 projects using Team System 2008 Build

    I'm trying to configure automated build of BizTalk 2009 projects using Team Foundation Server 2008. We have a staging server which has BizTalk 2009 installed. I ran the Team Foundation Server Build Setup on this server, and it can build non-BizTalk projects OK. However, BizTalk projects fail to build. I suspected something was amiss when "Deployment" was not a valid build type! I tried copying various things over from a developer PC which has BizTalk and Visual Studio 2008 installed, but still couldn't get it to work. I don't really want to install Visual Studio on the staging server, but without it the "Developer Tools and SDK" option in the BizTalk install is greyed out. I guess I need this in order for BizTalk projects to compile. So, my question is can a BizTalk 2009 server be used as a TFS build agent to build BizTalk projects without having Visual Studio installed. If the answer is no, what's the smallest part of VS that can be installed to get this to work? Thanks in advance.

    I have looked for an easy way to install/compile Numpy with OpenBLAS but didn't find an easy answer. All the documentation I have seen takes too much knowledge as granted for someone like me who is not used to compile software. There are two packages in Ubuntu related to OpenBLAS : libopenblas-base and libopenblas-dev. Once they are installed, what should I do to install Numpy again with them? Thanks! Note that when these OpenBLAS packages are installed, Numpy doesn't work anymore: it can't be imported: ImportError: /usr/lib/liblapack.so.3gf: undefined symbol: ATL_chemv. This was noticed here already. Answer to the question: Run sudo update-alternatives --all and set liblapack.so.3gf to /usr/lib/lapack/liblapack.so.3gf

  • iPhone provisioning profile suddenly stops working (not expired)

    Hey there! We have a couple of iPhones in our office. All of them have provisioning profiles installed on them. One of the phones (my bosses :S) all of a sudden won't allow me to install apps to it, complaining that a valid provisioning profile cannot be found. The profile isn't expired, and the problem is, I'm guessing, not with the XCode files, as I can install the same project to all the other phones. Does anyone know why this might have occurred or how I can fix this? Thanks! Tristan

    Dear Stackoverflowers, A simple link would be nice for me to understand how to install my C++ program as a deamon in UNIX, now i know some will say this should be on SERVERFAULT but as far as i understand it i need the init.d shell script to actually create the start and stop for the daemons. But if you guys can show me a simple shell script for the daemon and the file directories every thing required is associated with, that would be great. P.S. ive already done the required code for C++ to run as a daemon i just need to know how to actually install it as a daemon.   • How to get httrack to work with SSL on mac os x? (libssl.so not found)

    I'm trying to use httrack website copier but the program is running and reporting "no-ssl" (ie: it does not have the capability to copy secure sites). From looking over this thread, it seems that the problem is either when I make & configure the program, or when I run the program, it is not finding the lib-ssl / open-ssl that I have installed. I think it is looking for /var/root/lib/libssl.so.1.0 The user on that forum states that he created a symlink which allowed httrack to find the ssl library in the non-default location. Perhaps that's what I need to do - but where do I create the link from and to? I'm not seeing that I have any libssl.so files installed on my system. Do I need the development package? If so, how do I install that? I used macports to install the current version of openssl that I have. I'm running OS X 10.6.
