• Removing and adding persistent stores to a core data application

  I'm using core data on an iPhone application. I have multiple persisntent stores that I'm switching from one to another so that only one of the stores can be active at the time. I have one managed object context and the different persistent stores are similar in data format (sqlite) and share the same managed object model. I'm importing the data to each persistent store from a respective XML file. For the first import everything works fine, but after I remove the imported data (the persistent store and the physical file) and then re-import, core data gives me an error: *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSObjectInaccessibleException', reason: 'The NSManagedObject with ID:0x3c14e00 <x-coredata://6D14F11E-2EA7-4141-9BE8-53747DE6FCC6/Book/p2> has been invalidated.' This error comes from the save: of NSManagedObjectContext. Before re-importing, i'm removing the persistent store from the persistent store coordinator and removing the physical file, so everything should be as if re-importing was done for the first time. Alos, the objects in managed object context are removed and the context is sent the reset: message (I don't know if this is actually needed). Could some one help me out here? How should the persistent store be switched? I'm basically using the same logic as tutored here: http://blog.sallarp.com/iphone-core-data-uitableview-drill-down/ Thanks in advance.

• Java performance problem with LinkedBlockingQueue

  Hello, this is my first post on stackoverflow...i hope someone can help me i have a big performance regression with Java 6 LinkedBlockingQueue. In the first thread i generate some objects which i push in to the queue In the second thread i pull these objects out. The performance regression occurs when the take() method of the LinkedBlockingQueue is called frequently. I monitored the whole program and the take() method claimed the most time overall. • How can you assign multiple Javascript functions to the upload_start_handler for WordPress's SWFUplo

  I've got 2 WordPress plugins (PhotoSmash and TwitPic-It) that need to hook into the SWFUploader for the Media Uploader in WordPress. SWFUpload has a setting "upload_start_handler" where you can specify a javascript function that will run immediately before the upload begins. The trouble is that I need to assign 2 different functions to run in separate plugins that may or may not coexist in a given user's WordPress blog. I want to make the implementation so that it allows other plugin authors to hook their own javascript functions. I don't know that I have access to the actual event being fired. The "upload_start_handler" is a setting on a JS object, not an event hook on the flash object. You set it like: swfu.settings.upload_start_handler = function(){ runFlashStartUploadFunctions(); } My current plan is to add a 2 functions and an array variable (check if they exists first). The array variable is intended to hold an array of function names (strings) to run when "runFlashStartUploadFunctions" gets called at upload start. The first function is to add new functions to the array. The second function is "runFlashStartUploadFunctions", and it will iterate through the array and eval each function name.   I have made a simple punch in / punch out time clock application. In the manifest I have these settings on it <activity android:name=".Toggle" android:exported="true" android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Translucent.NoTitleBar"> As it is now I can create a shortcut on the home screen then press it. The first time I press it it starts the Toggle activity and completes it fine, but it also opens up the TimeClock activity on the screen. If I then hit the back button I go back to the home. I can now press this shortcut and it will start the Toggle activity and not change the screen. Before I added: shortcutIntent.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP); It would open up the TimeClock activity every time. Now it is just the first time. But I want it to never show anything on the screen when the Toggle shortcut is pressed. Does anyone have any idea of how to get rid of that?

  Hi, I'm looking for a way to simulate a projector in wpf 3D : i've these "in" parameters : beam shape : a black and white bitmap file beam size ( ex : 30 °) beam color beam intensity ( dimmer ) projector position (x,y,z) beam position (pan(x),tilt(y) relative to projector) First i was thinking of using light object but it seem that wpf can't do that So, now i think that i can make for each projector a polygon from my bitmap... First i need to convert the black and white bitmap to vector. Only Simple shape ( bubble, line,dot,cross ...) Is there any WPF way to do that ? Or maybe a external program file (freeware); then i need to build the polygon, with the shape of the converted bitmap , color , size , orientation in parameter. i don't know how can i defined the lenght of the beam , and if it can be infiny ... To show the beam result, i think of making a room ( floor , wall ...) and beam will end to these wall... i don't care of real light render ( dispersion ...) but the scene render has to be real time and at least 15 times / second (with probably from one to 100 projectors at the same time), information about position, angle,shape,color will be sent for each render... Well so, i need sample for that, i guess that all of these things could be useful for other people If you have sample code : Convert Bitmap to vector Extrude vectors from one point with a angle parameter until collision of a wall Set x,y position of the beam depend of the projector position Set Alpha intensity of the beam, color Maybe i'm totally wrong and WPF is not ready for that , so advise me about other way ( xna,d3D ) with sample of course ;-) Thanks you

• How can I write good "research code"?

  "Research code" is often held up as a paragon of what not to do when writing software. Certainly, the kind of code that often results from trying to solve a research problem can end up being poorly-designed, difficult to debug, etc. But my question is this: does research code have to be this way? Is it possible to write good research code? Is the only approach to consider the first version a poorly-written prototype to be discarded in favour of the better-designed second version? Software engineering has all sorts of best practices about how to design and write good code, but I don't usually find this relevant when you don't have a good idea ahead of time what the final system will look like. The final system is likely to be a result of what did or didn't work along the way, and the only way to determine what does or doesn't work is to write the code first. As you find things that don't work, you change what the final system looks like, moving further away from your original design (assuming you had one). I'd be interested in any personal experience with these issues, as well as any books or other resources anyone can point me to.

  heya, We have an Excel file with a worksheet containing people records. 1. Phone Number Sanitation One of the fields is a phone number field, which contains phone numbers in the format e.g.: +XX(Y)ZZZZ-ZZZZ (where X, Y and Z are integers). There are also some records which have less digits, e.g.: +XX(Y)ZZZ-ZZZZ And others with really screwed up formats: +XX(Y)ZZZZ-ZZZZ / ZZZZ or: ZZZZZZZZ We need to sanitise these all into the format: 0YZZZZZZZZ (or OYZZZZZZ with those with less digits). 2. Fill in Supervisor Details Each person also has a supervisor, given as an numeric ID. We need to do a lookup to get the name and email address of that supervisor, and add it to the line. This lookup will be firstly on the same worksheet (i.e. searching itself), and it can then fallback to another workbook with more people. 3. Approach? For the first issue, I was thinking of using regex in Excel/VBA somehow, to do the parsing. My Excel-fu isn't the best, but I suppose I can learn...lol. Any particular points on this one? However, would I be better off exporting the XLS to a CSV (e.g. using xlrd), then using Python to fix up the phone numbers? For the second approach, I was thinking of just using vlookups in Excel, to pull in the data, and somehow, having it fall through, first on searching itself, then on the external workbook, then just putting in error text. Not sure how to do that last part. However, if I do happen to choose to export to CSV and do it in Python, what's an efficient way of doing the vlookup? (Should I convert to a dict, or just iterate? • cells order changes in UITableView after reloadSections: method

  I'm having a problem using a grouped UITableView, and after 3 days of searching, I didn't found the solution... Actually, I have a Grouped table, composed of two sections : The first section contains a UISegmentedControl with three buttons : button0, button1 and button2. When clicking on the button0, I want to show two cells in the second section, with embedded UITextField in each cell. When clicking on the button1, I want to show one cell in the second section with an embedded UITextField. When clicking on the button2, I have to show the camera in ModalView (I think it will be ok). I've also put placeholders in each UITextField. Each time a button is clicked, I call a pickOne: method in order to update my view. In this method, I construct a NSIndexSet with NSRange of (1, 1), and then I call the reloadSections: method from the UITableViewController with NSIndexSet as a parameter. When the view appears for the first time, everything is ok, but when I click many times on the buttons, the order of the cells changes (cells containing the two textFields for the button0), and the new placeHolders are written over the old ones. Even more, sometimes when I click on the button0, it shows me only the second cell... Do you have any idea ? or need some code ? Thank you :)

  I'm doing some javascript development and found a cool macro to region my code ("Using #region Directive With JavaScript Files in Visual Studio"). I used this on my 32 bit box, and it worked first time. Stepping through it with the Visual Studio Macros IDE, it fails the first time on the DTE.ExecuteCommand("Edit.StopOutlining") line with a COM error (Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component). If I attempt to run it a second time, I can run it from the Macro Editor with no issue, but not from within Visual Studio with the macro explorer 'run macro' command. • Always can't separate these guys: ascending and descending! Are there good examples?

  As a non-english dude, I have trouble differentiating this. When I try to translate this into my language, I get something weird like "go up" for ascending. So lets say I want to sort the names of all my pets alphabetically. I want that A comes first, then B, then C... and so on. So since the alphabet is not a number for me, my brain refuses to grok what's "going up". A = 0? B = 1? C = 2? If yes, then ascending would be what I'm most of the time looking for. Table would start showing A, then B, then C... Or is that the other way around? Must I look from the bottom of the table, up? And with numbers: If it's an ascending order, the smallest comes first? (would seem logical...) Can someone post a short but good example for what is an ascending sort order, and what is an descending sort order? And does that apply to whatever platform, programming language, API, etc.?

• General Question About WPF Control Behavior and using Invoke

  I have been putting off activity on SO because my current reputation is "1337". :) This is a question of "why" and not "how". By default, it seems that WPF does not set focus to the first control in a window when it's opening. In addition, when a textbox gets focus, by default it does not have it's existing text selected. So basically when I open a window, I want focus on the first control of the window, and if that control is a textbox, I want it's existing text (if any) to be selected. I found some tips online to accomplish each of these behaviors, and combined them. The code below, which I placed in the constructor of my window, is what I came up with: Loaded += (sender, e) => { MoveFocus(new TraversalRequest(FocusNavigationDirection.Next)); var textBox = FocusManager.GetFocusedElement(this) as TextBox; if (textBox != null) { Action select = textBox.SelectAll; //for some reason this doesn't work without using invoke. Dispatcher.Invoke(DispatcherPriority.Loaded, select); } }; So, my question. Why does the above not work without using Dispatcher.Invoke? Is something built into the behavior of the window (or textbox) cause the selected text to be de-selected post-loading? • edited an .SWF, locally the changes made are okay, but when on server changes are not fully visible

  Hi, I just edited an .SWF file I have on my website home page for a while now. I update the SWF frequently with new pictures. It's actually a picture slideshow, consisting out of 6 images. I used Adobe Flash CS4 Pro to edit the file, with just swapping all the pictures (JPGS) in it for other ones. I also have some small AS where I just have the URL: on(release) { getURL("link"); } so that's nothing fancy at all. I saved and published everything (CTRL+ENTER) and the .SWF played well, and tested it in IE8 and FF. Then I uploaded the SWF to my test server, overwriting the existing SWF file. Now the problem: all pictures but one show up well. Of the 6 images, the second image is actually the old image that was in its place. I downloaded the .SWF from the testserver and inspected the SWF and guess what: the old picture wasn't in it, instead the correct image was in the SWF. Even after reloading the page hitting CTRL+F5 still the wrong image shows. FF though shows the SWF correctly. So I then opened the page on another computer using IE8 and there the SWF works well, showing the correct second image. What's wrong with my first computer's browser? It's also the computer I edited the SWF with. I DO remember like I first saved and uploaded the wrong SWF (with the old 2nd image still in it) to the testserver, and later on uploading the correct one (proper 2nd image) I think IE8 has cached the wrong SWF, and now memorized it someway not willing to see that the file has actually been changed, but what to do so IE8 starts showing the correct SWF??

• Pythonic mapping of an array (Beginner)

  Hey StackOverflow, I've got a question related to a beginner Python snippet I've written to introduce myself to the language. It's an admittedly trivial early effort, but I'm still wondering how I could have written it more elegantly. The program outputs NATO phoenetic readable versions of an argument, such "H2O" - "Hotel 2 Oscar", or (lacking an argument) just outputs the whole alphabet. I mainly use it for calling in MAC addresses and IQNs, but it's useful for other phone support too. My first guess was to use a list comprehension along the lines of [nato[x] for x in sys.argv[1].lower() if x in nato], but that doesn't allow me to output any non-alphabetic characters. My next guess was to use map, but I couldn't format any lambdas that didn't suffer from the same corner case. Any suggestions? Maybe something with first-class functions? Messing with Array's guts? This seems like it could almost be a Code Golf question, but I feel like I'm just overthinking :)

• Add KO "data-bind" attribute on $(document).ready

  Preface I've rarely ever been a JS developer and this is my first attempt at doing something with Knockout.js. The question to follow likely illustrates both points. Backgound I have a fairly complex MVC3 application that I'm trying to get to work with KO (v2.0.0.0). My MVC app is designed to generically control which fields appear in the view (and how they are added to the view). It makes use of partial views to decide what to draw in the view based on the user's permissions (If the user is in group A then show control A, if the user in group B then show control B or possibly if the user is in group A don't include the control at all). Also, my model is very flat so I'm not sure the built-in ability to apply my ViewModel to a specific portion of the view will help. My solution to this problem is to provide an action in my controller that responds with an object in JSON format with that contains the JQuery selector and the content to assign to the "data-bind" attribute and bind the ViewModel to the View in the $(document).ready event using the values provided. Failed Proof-of-concept My first attempt at proving that this works doesn't actually seem to work, and by "doesn't work" I mean it just doesn't bind the values at all (as can be seen in this jsfiddle). I've tried it with the applyBindings inside of the ready event and not, but it doesn't seem to make any bit of difference. Question What am I doing wrong? Or is this just not something that can work with KO (though I've seen at least one example online doing the same thing and it supposedly works)? Like I said in the preface, I've only ever pretended to be a JS developer (though I've generally gotten it to work in the past) so I'm at a loss where to start trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong. Hopefully this isn't a real noob question.

• python - tkinter - update label from variable

  I wrote a python script that does some stuff to generate and then keep changing some text stored as a string variable. This works, and I can print the string each time it gets changed. Problems have arisen while trying to display that output in a GUI (just as a basic label) using tkinter. I can get the label to display the string for the first time... but it never updates. This is really the first time I have tried to use tkinter, so it's likely I'm making a foolish error. It also seems possible I am meant to be using trace and callback somehow to make all this work...but I can't get my head around how that works (I tried, but didn't manage to make anything that even looked like it would do something, let alone actually worked). I'm still very new to both python and especially tkinter, so, any help much appreciated but please spell it out for me if you can :)

• View Controller's viewDidLoad method finishing before applicationDidFinishLaunching

  I'm creating a fairly complex iPhone app using Core Data. Up until now, things have been working fine. As the app has been getting more complex, however, a new problem has come up: the first view controller is finishing its viewDidLoad method before the AppDelegate gets even halfway through its applicationDidFinishLaunching method. The view controller is not the root, which is a tab bar controller. The VC in question is the one for the default selected tab on the tab bar. It's getting instantiated by IB. Nothing like this has occurred before in my experience, and it's throwing off the important initialization I'm doing in the AppDelegate (getting objects from Core Data and preparing them for use) . Furthermore, it's intermittent -- sometimes the delegate does finish first. Has anyone else noticed a difficulty like this? Any sample code that deals with such an issue? I suppose that the answer is to make the VC load the data that the AppDelegate is getting ready only when the AppDelegate sends a message that it's ready. I'm a bit concerned that this is adding something that will just end up biting me in the butt later on.

• ASP.NET Ajax - Asynch request has separate session???

  We are writing a search application that saves the search criteria to session state and executes the search inside of an asp.net updatepanel. Sometimes when we execute multiple searches successively the 2nd or 3rd search will sometimes return results from the first set of search criteria. Example: our first search we do a look up on "John Smith" - John Smith results are displayed. The second search we do a look up on "Bob Jones" - John Smith results are displayed. We save all of the search criteria in session state as I said, and read it from session state inside of the ajax request to format the DB query. When we put break points in VS everything behaves as normal, but without them we get the original search criteria and results. My guess is because they are saved in session, that the ajax request somehow gets its own session and saves the criteria to that, and then retrieves the criteria from that session every time, but the non-async stuff is able to see when the criteria is modified and saves the changes to state accordingly, but because they are from two different sessions there is a disparity in what is saved and read. EDIT::: To elaborate more, there was a suggestion of appending the search criteria to the query string which normally is good practice and I agree thats how it should be but following our requirements I don't see it as being viable. They want it so the user fills out the input controls hits search and there is no page reload, the only thing they see is a progress indicator on the page, and they still have the ability to navigate and use other features on the current page. If I were to add criteria to the query string I would have to do another request causing the whole page to load, which depending on the search criteria can take a really long time. This is why we are using an ajax call to perform the search and why we aren't causing another full page request..... I hope this clarifies the situation.
