• OpenSSL response 404 issue on centOS 6

  I followed this tutorial (though it's for 5.2, I figured I'd be alright). The changes I had to make that seemed to have worked: Rename ca.csr to ca.cslr (that's the one the command generated) List it in the ssl.conf as ca.cslr instead of ca.csr I have the following in the httpd.conf <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot /etc/test ServerName site.com </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:433> SSLEngine on SSLCertificateFile /etc/pki/tls/certs/ca.crt SSLCertificateKeyFile /etc/pki/tls/private/ca.key <Directory /etc/test> AllowOverride All </Directory> DocumentRoot /etc/test ServerName cryptokings.com </VirtualHost> /test contains a folder inside of it, accessible via http://site.com/test/foo, however attempting to access it via https://site.com/test/foo results in warning that the certificate is untrusted (self-signed, no biggie) a 404 error. Chrome's complains about the certificate are the following: The identity of this website has not been verified. • Server's certificate does not match the URL. • Server's certificate is not trusted. I think those warnings are a side-effect of a self-signed certificate - or is the first one something that needs to be addressed? I seem to be able fetch the root page via https just fine though, it shows a standard CentOS setup page. (That said, I haven't added a VirtualHost entry for it so I suppose that makes sense) I think I've made a mistake somewhere during the setup as I'm not too familiar with the process. During setup, I was prompted for a type of password that would be required when apache restarts but running service httpd restart does not seem to prompt me for one. Any help would be appreciated.

• Configure J2EE Agent with OpenAM behind Reverse Proxy

  I have a reverse proxy with two SSL enabled NamedVirtualHosts on different ports. Both containers on each internal host is GF 2.1.1. Proxy configuration as follows: Proxy URL -> Internal URL https://apps.mydomain.com -> http://apps.internal.com https://secure.otherdomain.com:8080/ -> http://secure.internal.com I initially tried configuring the J2EE agent in OpenAM and the web app container to use the internal URLs (I appended /openam and /agentapp respectively). However, I received the following errors when trying to access a secured application such as https://apps.mydomain.com/webapp. java.lang.RuntimeException: Failed to load configuration: ApplicationSSOTokenProvider.getApplicationSSOToken(): Unable to get Application SSO Token A second attempt gives the following error: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Could not initialize class com.sun.identity.agents.filter.AmFilterManager Along with these in the agent debug.out: ERROR: Failed to obtain auth service url from server: null://null:null ... SiteMonitor: Site URL http://secure.internal.com/openam/namingservice is not available. If I specify the server and agent urls using the proxy urls, then the agent appears to be working and I am redirected to the OpenAM login page. However, the goto in the URL is http://apps.mydomain.com/webapp instead of https://apps.mydomain.com/webapp (missing https). So after authentication, the redirect fails. Now I could possibly get by with mod_rewrite, but it feels hackish and I really want to know what's going on. Any ideas?

• SQL 2000 Backup/Export Process - Can't find SQL 2000 Enterprise Manager, Can't use Mgmt Studio Expre

  I need to make a backup of a client's SQL 2000 database, however there are a few issues preventing me from doing so using the traditional methods. I've tried using SQL Management Studio Express, but the host doesn't give sufficient privileges to create a backup and I'm getting some strange error messages. I've also tried doing the "Generate Scripts" to recreate the schema, then using the DTS Wizard to migrate the data, but the IDs set up with the identity specification property are not consistent with the live database once copied over. This results in some foreign key breakage... If I remember correctly, I was able to use Microsoft SQL 2000 Enterprise Manager to perform the task before, but I can't find this anywhere... it seems Microsoft has pulled most SQL Server 2000 stuff from their site. Does anyone know where I can find a copy of Enterprise Manager (or a trial of SQL Server 2000, which I believe comes with the component)? Or conversely, does anyone know of any other tools (preferably non-commercial) that are capable of mirroring remote SQL Server 2000 DBs? Thanks!

• IIS 6 ASP.NET default handler-mappings and virtual directories

  I'm having a problem with setting a default mapping in IIS 6. I want to secure *.HTML files with ASP.NET forms authentication. The problem seems to have something to do with using virtual directories to hold the html files. Here's how it's setup: sample directory tree c:/inetpub/ (nothing in here) d:/web_files/my_web_apps d:/web_files/my_web_apps/app1/ d:/web_files/my_web_apps/app2/ d:/web_files/my_web_apps/html_files/ app1 and app2 both access the same html_files directory, so html_files is set as a virtual directory in the web apps in IIS... sample web directory tree //app1/html_files/ (points to physical directory: d:/web_files/my_web_apps/html_files/) //app2/html_files/ (points to physical directory: d:/web_files/my_web_apps/html_files/) If I put a file called test.html in the root of //app1/ and then add the default mapping to the asp.net dll and setup my security on the root folder with deny="?", then accessing test.html works exactly as expected. If I'm not authenticated, it takes me to the login.aspx page, and if I am authenticated then it displays test.html. If I put the test.html file in the html_files directory I get a totally different behavior. Now the login.aspx page loads and I stuck some code in to check if I was still authenticated: <p>autheticated: <%=User.Identity.IsAuthenticated%></p> I figured it would say false because why else would it bother to load the login page? Nope, it says true - so it knows i'm authenticated, but it won't give me access to the test.html file. I've spent several hours on this and haven't been able to solve it. I'm going to spend some more time on google to see if I've missed something. Fingers crossed.

• cannot connect to sql server express from sql server standard

  ... like my title says... I cannot connect to my instance on sql server express from sql server standard... I have tried disabling firing wall and checked sqlbrowser is started but for some reason I cannnot connect to my datbase... called server_name\sqlexpress.. I have a virtual machine and a full scale MS SQL Server 2008 R2 running on it... and I have several other vm running sqlexpress. they run fine and I can connect to them using sqlexpress... but when i try to access from sqlserver... I get this error. A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: -1) Digging deep into the error, I found this Error Number: -1 Severity: 20 State: 0 and finally this... • Service Unavailable - App Pool disabled error...anyone know why?

  Hi guys A small number of our sites intermediately experience an error that is a mystery to us. Our set up is: Windows Server 2003 IIS6 .NET 3.5 We have about 35 Websites running on IIS Each site has it's own App Pool Each App Pool has the identity: Network Service The symptom is: The Application Pool for a site stops, and when you browse to the site, you only see: SERVICE UNAVAILABLE In the Event Logs, we have one Error, that looks like this: Application pool 'AppPool1' is being automatically disabled due to a series of failures in the process(es) serving that application pool. And we have several Warnings leading up to the error, that look like this (note: the warnings look the same, except for the process id): A process serving application pool 'AppPool1' suffered a fatal communication error with the World Wide Web Publishing Service. The process id was '292'. The data field contains the error number. What's causing this? As I said, it doeasn't happen very often....the last time was about 6 months ago...and it usually happens with the same site/App pool. Any ideas? cheers!

• Inside the Concurrent Collections: ConcurrentDictionary

  Using locks to implement a thread-safe collection is rather like using a sledgehammer - unsubtle, easy to understand, and tends to make any other tool redundant. Unlike the previous two collections I looked at, ConcurrentStack and ConcurrentQueue, ConcurrentDictionary uses locks quite heavily. However, it is careful to wield locks only where necessary to ensure that concurrency is maximised. This will, by necessity, be a higher-level look than my other posts in this series, as there is quite a lot of code and logic in ConcurrentDictionary. Therefore, I do recommend that you have ConcurrentDictionary open in a decompiler to have a look at all the details that I skip over. The problem with locks There's several things to bear in mind when using locks, as encapsulated by the lock keyword in C# and the System.Threading.Monitor class in .NET (if you're unsure as to what lock does in C#, I briefly covered it in my first post in the series): Locks block threads The most obvious problem is that threads waiting on a lock can't do any work at all. No preparatory work, no 'optimistic' work like in ConcurrentQueue and ConcurrentStack, nothing. It sits there, waiting to be unblocked. This is bad if you're trying to maximise concurrency. Locks are slow Whereas most of the methods on the Interlocked class can be compiled down to a single CPU instruction, ensuring atomicity at the hardware level, taking out a lock requires some heavy lifting by the CLR and the operating system. There's quite a bit of work required to take out a lock, block other threads, and wake them up again. If locks are used heavily, this impacts performance. Deadlocks When using locks there's always the possibility of a deadlock - two threads, each holding a lock, each trying to aquire the other's lock. Fortunately, this can be avoided with careful programming and structured lock-taking, as we'll see. So, it's important to minimise where locks are used to maximise the concurrency and performance of the collection. Implementation As you might expect, ConcurrentDictionary is similar in basic implementation to the non-concurrent Dictionary, which I studied in a previous post. I'll be using some concepts introduced there, so I recommend you have a quick read of it. So, if you were implementing a thread-safe dictionary, what would you do? The naive implementation is to simply have a single lock around all methods accessing the dictionary. This would work, but doesn't allow much concurrency. Fortunately, the bucketing used by Dictionary allows a simple but effective improvement to this - one lock per bucket. This allows different threads modifying different buckets to do so in parallel. Any thread making changes to the contents of a bucket takes the lock for that bucket, ensuring those changes are thread-safe. The method that maps each bucket to a lock is the GetBucketAndLockNo method: private void GetBucketAndLockNo( int hashcode, out int bucketNo, out int lockNo, int bucketCount) { // the bucket number is the hashcode (without the initial sign bit) // modulo the number of buckets bucketNo = (hashcode & 0x7fffffff) % bucketCount; // and the lock number is the bucket number modulo the number of locks lockNo = bucketNo % m_locks.Length; } However, this does require some changes to how the buckets are implemented. The 'implicit' linked list within a single backing array used by the non-concurrent Dictionary adds a dependency between separate buckets, as every bucket uses the same backing array. Instead, ConcurrentDictionary uses a strict linked list on each bucket: This ensures that each bucket is entirely separate from all other buckets; adding or removing an item from a bucket is independent to any changes to other buckets. Modifying the dictionary All the operations on the dictionary follow the same basic pattern: void AlterBucket(TKey key, ...) { int bucketNo, lockNo; 1: GetBucketAndLockNo( key.GetHashCode(), out bucketNo, out lockNo, m_buckets.Length); 2: lock (m_locks[lockNo]) { 3: Node headNode = m_buckets[bucketNo]; 4: Mutate the node linked list as appropriate } } For example, when adding another entry to the dictionary, you would iterate through the linked list to check whether the key exists already, and add the new entry as the head node. When removing items, you would find the entry to remove (if it exists), and remove the node from the linked list. Adding, updating, and removing items all follow this pattern. Performance issues There is a problem we have to address at this point. If the number of buckets in the dictionary is fixed in the constructor, then the performance will degrade from O(1) to O(n) when a large number of items are added to the dictionary. As more and more items get added to the linked lists in each bucket, the lookup operations will spend most of their time traversing a linear linked list. To fix this, the buckets array has to be resized once the number of items in each bucket has gone over a certain limit. (In ConcurrentDictionary this limit is when the size of the largest bucket is greater than the number of buckets for each lock. This check is done at the end of the TryAddInternal method.) Resizing the bucket array and re-hashing everything affects every bucket in the collection. Therefore, this operation needs to take out every lock in the collection. Taking out mutiple locks at once inevitably summons the spectre of the deadlock; two threads each hold a lock, and each trying to acquire the other lock. How can we eliminate this? Simple - ensure that threads never try to 'swap' locks in this fashion. When taking out multiple locks, always take them out in the same order, and always take out all the locks you need before starting to release them. In ConcurrentDictionary, this is controlled by the AcquireLocks, AcquireAllLocks and ReleaseLocks methods. Locks are always taken out and released in the order they are in the m_locks array, and locks are all released right at the end of the method in a finally block. At this point, it's worth pointing out that the locks array is never re-assigned, even when the buckets array is increased in size. The number of locks is fixed in the constructor by the concurrencyLevel parameter. This simplifies programming the locks; you don't have to check if the locks array has changed or been re-assigned before taking out a lock object. And you can be sure that when a thread takes out a lock, another thread isn't going to re-assign the lock array. This would create a new series of lock objects, thus allowing another thread to ignore the existing locks (and any threads controlling them), breaking thread-safety. Consequences of growing the array Just because we're using locks doesn't mean that race conditions aren't a problem. We can see this by looking at the GrowTable method. The operation of this method can be boiled down to: private void GrowTable(Node[] buckets) { try { 1: Acquire first lock in the locks array // this causes any other thread trying to take out // all the locks to block because the first lock in the array // is always the one taken out first // check if another thread has already resized the buckets array // while we were waiting to acquire the first lock 2: if (buckets != m_buckets) return; 3: Calculate the new size of the backing array 4: Node[] array = new array[size]; 5: Acquire all the remaining locks 6: Re-hash the contents of the existing buckets into array 7: m_buckets = array; } finally { 8: Release all locks } } As you can see, there's already a check for a race condition at step 2, for the case when the GrowTable method is called twice in quick succession on two separate threads. One will successfully resize the buckets array (blocking the second in the meantime), when the second thread is unblocked it'll see that the array has already been resized & exit without doing anything. There is another case we need to consider; looking back at the AlterBucket method above, consider the following situation: Thread 1 calls AlterBucket; step 1 is executed to get the bucket and lock numbers. Thread 2 calls GrowTable and executes steps 1-5; thread 1 is blocked when it tries to take out the lock in step 2. Thread 2 re-hashes everything, re-assigns the buckets array, and releases all the locks (steps 6-8). Thread 1 is unblocked and continues executing, but the calculated bucket and lock numbers are no longer valid. Between calculating the correct bucket and lock number and taking out the lock, another thread has changed where everything is. Not exactly thread-safe. Well, a similar problem was solved in ConcurrentStack and ConcurrentQueue by storing a local copy of the state, doing the necessary calculations, then checking if that state is still valid. We can use a similar idea here: void AlterBucket(TKey key, ...) { while (true) { Node[] buckets = m_buckets; int bucketNo, lockNo; GetBucketAndLockNo( key.GetHashCode(), out bucketNo, out lockNo, buckets.Length); lock (m_locks[lockNo]) { // if the state has changed, go back to the start if (buckets != m_buckets) continue; Node headNode = m_buckets[bucketNo]; Mutate the node linked list as appropriate } break; } } TryGetValue and GetEnumerator And so, finally, we get onto TryGetValue and GetEnumerator. I've left these to the end because, well, they don't actually use any locks. How can this be? Whenever you change a bucket, you need to take out the corresponding lock, yes? Indeed you do. However, it is important to note that TryGetValue and GetEnumerator don't actually change anything. Just as immutable objects are, by definition, thread-safe, read-only operations don't need to take out a lock because they don't change anything. All lockless methods can happily iterate through the buckets and linked lists without worrying about locking anything. However, this does put restrictions on how the other methods operate. Because there could be another thread in the middle of reading the dictionary at any time (even if a lock is taken out), the dictionary has to be in a valid state at all times. Every change to state has to be made visible to other threads in a single atomic operation (all relevant variables are marked volatile to help with this). This restriction ensures that whatever the reading threads are doing, they never read the dictionary in an invalid state (eg items that should be in the collection temporarily removed from the linked list, or reading a node that has had it's key & value removed before the node itself has been removed from the linked list). Fortunately, all the operations needed to change the dictionary can be done in that way. Bucket resizes are made visible when the new array is assigned back to the m_buckets variable. Any additions or modifications to a node are done by creating a new node, then splicing it into the existing list using a single variable assignment. Node removals are simply done by re-assigning the node's m_next pointer. Because the dictionary can be changed by another thread during execution of the lockless methods, the GetEnumerator method is liable to return dirty reads - changes made to the dictionary after GetEnumerator was called, but before the enumeration got to that point in the dictionary. It's worth listing at this point which methods are lockless, and which take out all the locks in the dictionary to ensure they get a consistent view of the dictionary: Lockless: TryGetValue GetEnumerator The indexer getter ContainsKey Takes out every lock (lockfull?): Count IsEmpty Keys Values CopyTo ToArray Concurrent principles That covers the overall implementation of ConcurrentDictionary. I haven't even begun to scratch the surface of this sophisticated collection. That I leave to you. However, we've looked at enough to be able to extract some useful principles for concurrent programming: Partitioning When using locks, the work is partitioned into independant chunks, each with its own lock. Each partition can then be modified concurrently to other partitions. Ordered lock-taking When a method does need to control the entire collection, locks are taken and released in a fixed order to prevent deadlocks. Lockless reads Read operations that don't care about dirty reads don't take out any lock; the rest of the collection is implemented so that any reading thread always has a consistent view of the collection. That leads us to the final collection in this little series - ConcurrentBag. Lacking a non-concurrent analogy, it is quite different to any other collection in the class libraries. • IIS 7 - 403 Access Denied error on wwwroot trying to redirect to /owa

  I'm trying to setup a redirect from http://mail.mydomain.com to https://mail.mydomain.com/owa. I've been unsuccessful in doing this by using IIS's HTTP Redirect so I looked to other options. The one I settled on is to create a default document in the wwwroot folder to handle the redirect. I created a file called index.aspx (and added index.aspx to the list of default documents) and put the following code in it: <script runat="server"> private void Page_Load(object sender, System.EventArgs e) { Response.Status = "301 Moved Permanently"; Response.AddHeader("Location","https://mail.mydomain.com/owa"); } </script> Instead of getting a redirect I get: 403 - Forbidden: Access is denied. You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied. I've been trying to find an answer to this but have been unsuccessful so far. One thing I did try was to add the Everyone group to wwwroot with read access. No change. The AppPool for Default Web Site is DefaultAppPool and the Identity is ApplicationPoolIdentity. (I don't know what these things are but maybe knowing this will help you.) Thanks!

• Rapidly changing public IP addresses on certain networks?

  I run/develop an online game where many of our users are in southeast asia. I recently went to southeast asia and made an alarming discovery. Anywhere I got internet access, whether it was via 3G, a LAN in a hotel, or wifi in a cafe, both in Singapore and the Philippines, I noticed that my IP address was changing CONSTANTLY. I mean the public IP address, not the private one. I could load a page like whatismyip.com and just hit reload and see a new IP address show up every 5-10 seconds! This has lots of consequences for my online game, as many things "break" if the IP address changes for a given user. Basically, I would like to know more about this. Is there a name for the kind of network or router or paradigm that causes this, so I can read up on it? I don't understand WHY a network would function this way. Does it do this on purpose? Is it for security reasons? Is it to anonymize and protect the identity of the users? Or is it just an "old" method that is mostly obsolete in the rest of the world? Thanks for any info that will help me to understand.

• finding the user - without knowing the innards of IIS

  Place of crime is WinSrv2008 with IIS7. My IIS apppool user is trying to create a folder but fails. How do I find out which User it is? Let's say I don't know much about IIS7 and Aspnet but need to trace whatever is happening through tools. So I fire up Sysinternals/ProcessMonitor to find out what is happening. I find Access denied on a folder just as I suspected. But which user? I add the User column to the output or ProcessMonitor and it says IIS Apppool\Defaultapppool in capitals. Well... that isn't a user is it? If I go to IIS and its Apppools and Advanced settings and Process model and Identity I can see clues about which user it is but that is only because I know IIS. What if it had been Apache or LightHttpd or whatever? How do I see the user to give the appropriate rights to?

• Exchange 2010 Mail Enabled Public Folder Unable to Recieve External (anon) e-mail.

  Hello All, I am having issues with my "Public Folders" mail enabled folders receiving e-mails from external senders. The folder is setup with three Accepted Domains (names changed for privacy reasons): 1 - domain1.com (primary & Authoritative) 2 - domain2.com (Authoritative) 3 - domain3.com (Authoritative) When someone attempts to send an e-mail to [email protected] from inside the organization, the e-mail is received and placed in the appropriate folder. However, when someone tries to send an e-mail from outside the organization (such as a gmail account), the following error message is received: "Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 554 554 Recipient address rejected: User unknown (state 14)." When I try to send an e-mail to the same folder, using the same e-mail address above ([email protected]), but with domain2.com instead of domain3.com, it works as intended (both internal & external). I have checked, double checked, and triple checked my DNS settings comparing those from domain2 & domain3 with them both appearing identical. I have tried recreating the folders in question with the same results. I have also ran Get-PublicFolderClientPermission "\Web Programs\folder" with the following results for user anonymous: RunspaceId : 5ff99653-a8c3-4619-8eeb-abc723dc908b Identity : \Web Programs\folder User : Anonymous AccessRights : {CreateItems} Domain2.com & Domain3.com are duplicates of each other, but only domain2.com works as intended. All other exchange functions are functioning properly. If anyone out there has any suggestions, I would love to hear them. I've just hit a brick wall. Thanks for all your help in advance! --Alex

• Ho can I recover from SharePoint configuration errors after promoting the server to a Domain Controller?

  I have a SharePoint 2010 VM setup in VirtualBox and I was using local machine accounts to handle security on the server. While preparing for a demo it came time to have some meaningful users on my VM image. I followed some docs on promoting my server to a Domain Controller in a new forrest. So now I have [MachineName].SPDEMO.CONTOSO.com and I can add users as needed. However, when I try to connect to my SharePoint sites I am getting a white screen with the error: "Cannot connect to the configuration database" I changed the pool identity account of each of my IIS app pools to the new Administrator account and started the services successfully but I can't get the SQL services to start up. When I try to start them I get the following error: Windows could not start the SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code 17058. In the event log I see the following error: The SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) service terminated with service-specific error %%17058. Can I recover from this or should I roll back or just uninstall the Domain Controller role. I'd like to keep the server as a standalone DC so I can do some user profile creation/management but I need the SharePoint bits to work as well.

• Laptop authentication/logon via accelerometer tilt, flip, and twist

  Looking for another application/technology: A number of years ago, I read about a novel way to authenticate and log on to a laptop. The user simply had to hold the laptop in the air and execute a simple series of tilts and flips to the laptop. By logging accelerometer data, this creates a unique signature for the user. Even if an attacker watched and repeated the exact same motions, the attacker could not replicate the user's movements closely enough. I am looking for information about this technology again, but I can't find anything. It may have been an actual feature on a laptop, or it may have just been a research project. I think I read about it in a magazine like Wired. Does anyone have more information about authentication via unique accelerometer signatures? • I/O APIC on Virtualbox

  I'm trying to use the PIT to do APIC timer calibration, and I want to use the PIT through I/O APIC instead of PIC. On Bochs I get interrupts from the PIT at the asked frequency from the I/O APIC, while on Virtualbox I can't receive a single interrupt. It must be an I/O APIC configuration problem because as I unmask the first PIC entry, the IRQ fires. However that's not what I want. Can you imagine any possible condition that wouldn't make Virtualbox fire the IRQ? I'm not assuming single I/O APIC configuration (even though Virtualbox has only 1). I'm not assuming identity mappings between ISA IRQs and I/O APIC GSIs (using ACPI MADT table to get I/O APIC base address and Int override). I'm setting the Trigger Mode and Polarity bits correctly (on Virtualbox they are set as '00 - default' which means edge high right?). I'm putting the BSP APIC ID into the Destination field (using Physical destination) and vector 0x20. Being the BSP APIC ID 0 on Virtualbox, it ends up with 0x0000000000000020 written to the IOREDTBL. And, just in case I'm getting the wrong values from the Interrupt Override descriptor, I'm setting this value to all the IOREDTBL entries (I know this is very very bad, and it wont be kept as I understand what's going on). The only thing I didn't check out is Local APIC configuration. Actually I'm not writing any value to the BSP LAPIC. Just reading the APIC ID and using it to boot APs through IPIs. And obviously I'm setting bit 11 in the IA32_APIC_BASE MSR to enable the LAPIC. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

  Exchange 2010 SP1 Update Rollup 5 server information store database was restored to a Recovery Database using EMC Networker successfully. The Recovery Database is in a mounted state with mailboxes listed within in it. However, when restoring the mailbox content using the following command: Restore-Mailbox –Identity MYMAILBOX –RecoveryDatabase MYRECOVERYDB –RecoveryMailbox LOSTMAILBOX –TargetFolder FOLDERFORLOSTMAILBOX Returns the following error: Mailbox "LOSTMAILBOX" doesn't exist on database "MYRECOVERYDB". + CategoryInfo : NotSpecified: (0:Int32) [Restore-Mailbox], ManagementObjectNotFoundException + FullyQualifiedErrorId : 66265C53,Microsoft.Exchange.Management.RecipientTasks.RestoreMailbox Note: I've used the correct alias name for the mailbox name; i've also tried combinations such as first name, or last name or both and so forth. Issuing a Get-MailboxStatistics -Database MYRECOVERYDB to see if the mailbox is there and it is as shown below: DisplayName ItemCount StorageLimitStatus LOSTMAILBOX 39495 MailboxDisabled Note: The StorageLimitStatus shows a strange output of MaibloxDisabled. • How can I recover from SharePoint configuration errors after promoting the server to a Domain Controller?

  I have a SharePoint 2010 VM setup in VirtualBox and I was using local machine accounts to handle security on the server. While preparing for a demo it came time to have some meaningful users on my VM image. I followed some docs on promoting my server to a Domain Controller in a new forrest. So now I have [MachineName].SPDEMO.CONTOSO.com and I can add users as needed. However, when I try to connect to my SharePoint sites I am getting a white screen with the error: "Cannot connect to the configuration database" I changed the pool identity account of each of my IIS app pools to the new Administrator account and started the services successfully but I can't get the SQL services to start up. When I try to start them I get the following error: Windows could not start the SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code 17058. In the event log I see the following error: The SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) service terminated with service-specific error %%17058. Can I recover from this or should I roll back or just uninstall the Domain Controller role. I'd like to keep the server as a standalone DC so I can do some user profile creation/management but I need the SharePoint bits to work as well.

• Authenticated User Impersonation in Classic ASP under IIS7

  I've recently moved one of our servers from Server 2003 and IIS6 to Server 2008 R2 and IIS7 (technically IIS7.5 I suppose). In doing so I am transitioning a small account management tool written in classic ASP and have run into a problem with user impersonation. Extensive searching hasn't been much help so far. Under IIS6, the site was configured to impersonate the logged-in user. Thus, if a domain admin logged in, he was able to run commands to create user directories, adjust permissions, etc. Using Procmon you can see the processes executing as that user. This worked fine. However, with the same code under IIS7, I am unable to get this behavior. I have enabled Basic Authentication, disabled Anonymous Auth, enabled impersonation and have changed the app pool to classic instead of integrated pipelining. Everything seems to be configured correctly, however, all the processes launched by the classic ASP site continue to run as the default AppPool identity and not the logged-in user. If it matters, programs are being launched with code such as: set Wsh = Server.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") Wsh.Run("cmd.exe /C mkdir D:\users\foo") Monitoring via Procmon shows cmd.exe being run as either "Classic .NET AppPool" or "DefaultAppPool" depending on the pipeline mode. Any suggestions on how to get the classic ASP site to impersonate and execute as the authenticated user would be great. Thanks!
