  • Getting dynamic childs for a parent in SQL

    I have a table called Categories which contains category_Id and parent_category_Id, so each category can has a child and the child can has a child and so on (it is dynamic). So if i have category A and category A has child B and child B has child C and child C has child D. I want to get all the child tree of A using SQL so when I give this query the id of A its result will be the ids of A's child which is B,C & D.....any ideas. Thanks in regards,

    I created a table that contains the name of the user and his job, and created PHP page that shows me all the users that works doctor, I entered doctor into a variable then I selected from the table where Jobs equal to $doctor, that is great, but I need it to get the same Jobs into a table in the page and the other same jobs into a table in the same page. this is my code that shows only the users works doctor in one table, <html> <h1>Doctors</h1> </html> <?php mysql_connect('localhost','root',''); mysql_select_db('data'); $doctor='doctor'; $query= mysql_query("SELECT * FROM `users` WHERE `job` = '$doctor'")or die(mysql_error()); while ($arr = mysql_fetch_array($query)) $name= $arr['name']; echo $name; } ?> That shows me doctors when I put doctor in a variable I want to show all same Jobs in a table. Expected result: +----+------------+------------+ | id | student_id | course_name| +----+------------+------------+ | 1 | 1 | English | | 2 | 1 | Chinese | +----+------------+------------+ What we normally do is select * from student join course on (student.id = course.student_id) WHERE course_name = 'English' OR course_name = 'Chinese' but in this result I can get User2 record which is not my expected result. I want the record only display the User take the course English+Chinese only.

  • What are some methods to prevent double posting in a form? (PHP)

    I want to prevent users from accidentally posting a comment twice. I use the PRG (post redirect get) method, so that I insert the data on another page then redirect the user back to the page which shows the comment. This allows users to refresh as many times as they want. However this doesn't work when the user goes back and clicks submit again or when they click submit 100 times really fast. I don't want 100 of the same comments. I looked at related questions on SO and found that a token is best.     Hi, I have a database with lets assume two columns (service_date & invoice_amount). I would like to create an SQL query that would retrieve and group the data for each financial year (July to June). I have two years of data so that is two financial years (i.e. 2 results). I know I can do this manually by creating an SQL query to group by month then run the data through PHP to create the financial year data but I'd rather have an SQL query. All ideas welcome. Thanks

    Hello all, Both the MySQLi and MySQLi_STMT classes have an $insert_id property. If I am connected to my database using a MySQLi object (say $db), and then I perform an INSERT with a MySQLi_STMT object (say $stmt), to get the id of the last INSERT, should I use: $last_id = $db->insert_id; or $last_id = $stmt->insert_id; Or would they be the same, in which case it doesn't matter? I thought this might be a quick answer for someone, and save me the time of writing the test code to check it. Thanks in advance as always.

    Hi guys, How do I go about displaying the most recent post when I have two tables, both containing a column called creation_date This would be simple if all I had to do was get the most recent post based on posts created_on value however if a post contains replies I need to factor this into the equation. If a post has a more recent reply I want to get the replies created_on value but also get the posts post_id and subject.   • mysql_connect "bool $new_link = true" is very slow

    Hi, I'm using latest version of Xampp on 64bit Win7. The problem is that, when I use mysql_connect with "bool $new_link" set to true like so: mysql_connect('localhost', 'root', 'my_password', TRUE); script execution time increases dramatically (about 0,5 seconds per connection, and when I have 4 diffirent objects using different connections, it takes ~2 seconds). Is setting "bool $new_link" to true, generally a bad idea or could it just be some problem with my software configuration. Thank you.

This VIEW is just to return me user name, according to his id and level. considering it has about 500,000 registered users, this view takes about 1 second to load. too much time, but is becomes very small when I need to return the latest posts on the forum of my website. The tables of the forums return the user id and level, then look for a name in this VIEW. I have registered 18 forums. When I run the query, it takes one second for each forum = 18 seconds. OMG. This page loads every time somebody enter my website.   • how to synchronize database table and directory with php

    hello, I have a directory with files and a database table with what should be the same files. I would like to be able to synchronize the database table with the directory. What would be the most efficient way to do this? or would I realistically only be able to do this in a brute manner? Here's my approach: 1. retrieve all of the files in the directory as array 2. retrieve all of the filenames in the database table as array 3. loop through the file values in the directory array and use in_array() on the database table array to verify the filename is in that array, and if not then start building an array to insert the missing filenames. run db query to add each missing file row to database table 4. loop through directory array and use in_array() on the directory array and anything not found in the directory array will just be deleted from the table. Is there a better way to go about this? or something better for this in php than in_array()?

    I have a log table, each row representing an object logging its state. Each object has a unique, unchanging GUID. There are multiple objects logging their states, so there will be thousands of entries, with objects continually inserting new logs. Everytime an object checks in, it is via an INSERT. I have the PrimaryKey, GUID, ObjectState, and LogDate columns in tblObjects. I want to select the latest (by datetime) log entry for each unique GUID from tblObjects, in effect a 'snapshot' of all the objects. How can this be accomplished?
