    Hi everybody, I have seen more and more of the websites that offers a undo option after pressing a delete button. How is the logic done behind the button? Is the item deleted by javascript and "dissapears" from the users screen and a scheduled delete added, that gives the user time to undo it or how does it work? What are the other options to offer the users an undo feature?

  • Do i need to dispose of MySqlCommand?

    I find it incredibly annoying to write a using statement on every one of my queries (which require its own command or write parameters.clear()) which sometimes require declaring variables outside of the using block. Its so incredibly annoying and looks much dirtier compared to the version without disposing the object. Do i need to dispose of it? what happens if i dont? I do know its good practice to dispose of an object when it has that interface.

  • Database Design Question

    Hi, I am designing a database for a project. I have a table that has 10 columns, most of them are used whenever the table is accessed, and I need to add 3 more rows; View Count Thumbs Up (count) Thumbs Down (Count) which will be used on %90 of the queries when the table is accessed. So, my question is that whether it is better to break the table up and create new table which will have these 3 columns + Foreign ID, or just make it 13 columns and use no joins? Since these columns will be used frequently, I guess adding 3 more columns is better, but if I need to create 10 more columns which will be used %90 of the time, should I add them as well, or create a new table and use joins? I am not sure when to break the table if the columns are used very frequently. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks in advance,

    I have a table called Categories which contains category_Id and parent_category_Id, so each category can has a child and the child can has a child and so on (it is dynamic). So if i have category A and category A has child B and child B has child C and child C has child D.     users table: id-user-other columns scores table: id-user_id-score-other columns They're are more than one rows for each user, but there's only two scores you can have. (0 or 1, == win or loss). So I want to output all the users ordered by the number of wins, and all the users ordered by the numbers of losses. I know how to do this by looping through each user, but I was wondering how to do it with one query. Any help is appreciated!

    hi, i am building a real estate application where in it will store the properties and search it. the property will have different categories like (residential, commercial, industrial or agricultural). based upon the category i want to serailize each and every property listing . for example the property with id 1 belongs to resedential will have the serial code rs_SOMERANDOMUNIQUENUMBER. and for commercial it can be cm_SOMERANDOMUNIQUENUMBER and so on. for this my database table looks like this.     I have a list in a database that the user should be able to order. itemname| order value (int) --------+--------------------- salad | 1 mango | 2 orange | 3 apples | 4 On load from the database, I simply order by order_value. By drag 'n drop, he should be able to move apples so that it appears at the top of the list.. itemname| order value (int) --------+--------------------- apples | 4 salad | 1 mango | 2 orange | 3 Ok. So now internally I have to update EVERY LIST ITEM! If the list has 20 or 100 items, that's a lot of updates for a simple drag operation. itemname| order value (int) --------+--------------------- apples | 1 salad | 2 mango | 3 orange | 4 I'd rather do it with only one update. One way I thought of is if "internal Order" is a double value. itemname| order value (double) --------+--------------------- salad | 1.0 mango | 2.0 orange | 3.0 apples | 4.0 SO after the drag n' drop operation, I assign apples has a value that is less than the item it is to appear in front of: itemname| order value (double) --------+--------------------- apples | 0.5 salad | 1.0 mango | 2.0 orange | 3.0 .. and if an item is dragged into the middle somewhere, its order_value is bigger than the one it appears after .. here I moved orange to be between salad and mango: itemname| order value (double) --------+--------------------- apples | 0.5 salad | 1.0 orange | 1.5 mango | 2.0 Any thoughts on better ways to do this?

    I have a table, which looks like: +-----------+----------+ + person_id + group_id + +-----------+----------+ + 1 + 10 + + 1 + 20 + + 1 + 30 + + 2 + 10 + + 2 + 20 + + 3 + 10 + +-----------+----------+ I need a query such that only person_ids with groups 10 AND 20 AND 30 are returned (only person_id: 1). I am not sure how to do this, as from what I can see it would require me to group the rows by person_id and then select the rows which contain all group_ids. I'm looking for something which will preserve the use of keys without resorting to string operations on group_concat() or such.

  • Normalise this Table?

    Hello all, I am creating a social bookmarking app. I am having a re-thought of the DB design in the middle of development. Should I normalise the bookmarks table and remove the tag columns that I have into a separate table. I have 10 tags per bookmark and therefore 10 columns per record (per bookmark). It seems to me that breaking the table into two would just mean I would have to do a join but the way I currently have it, its a straight select - but the table doesn't feel right...? Thanks all
