  • Acer recovering windows vista

    My computer history is very long even of my computer has 4 years of life. An year ago I installed Windows 7 on this acer m1610 that had Vista before. My technic left me 2 recovery disc for "acer vista" before updating it to Windows 7. Then the computer had some trouble. The graphic card broke and we decided to use another computer. Yesterday I had the great idea to fuse the two computer to have a better one... So I moved the graphic card of the latter computer to the acer and everything gone well. Then the trouble of speed, it had before, come back. So I decided to reinstall the very first Windows: Vista back again. I booted the computer with those 2 DVD-R my technic left me and at the end of the process it asked me to insert "the backup cd number one or the system disk". I found 2 original Acer "Blank Recovery Disc" DVD-R and tried with those: rejected. Tried with empty DVD-+R: rejected. I tried with CDs: rejected. I don't have any system disc with me. Except for those 2 DVD-R my technic left me. What am I supposed to do now? I even tried with these fantomatic alt+f9/f10 that should start the recovery without any disc... But nothing happened. PS: the installation cannot complete if I do not insert the right disk. (The recovery disc uses Acer eRecovery Management as recovery software.

  • Printing from a Linux using an Acer Aspire Netbook

    A friend asked me to check why their Linux Acer Aspire netbook can't print to their HP printer. When I plugged in the USB cable, the a "balloon" popped up on the netbook saying it was installing the printer. But the printing does not work. I was able to get into a Settings area and click on Print Test Page but nothing happened. If it was Ubuntu, I would go into the Log File Viewer, but I couldn't find that on whatever Linux flavor the Acer is running. I couldn't even figure out how to get to a terminal (shell) window. I tried searching the HP and Acer sites but nothing seems to apply to this issue.

  • How to check if a Webcam is broken?

    I just bought an Acer Aspire 3830TG, it comes with an integrated 1.3M HD Webcam. Before buying it i tried with a bootable Lubuntu usb stick, everything worked well except for the webcam, which i thought I had to tweak. The thing is that it seems the camera should work with no problems in ubuntu. The driver is detected, I try dmesg | grep uvcvideo and the output is [ 12.226174] uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device 1.3M HD WebCam (058f:b002) [ 12.245553] usbcore: registered new interface driver uvcvideo I've also tried using different software (guvcview is black when camera output is MJPG and turns to funny colors when YU12 or YV12, cheese is always black, camorama is always with funny colors...). I should have checked that it was working properly with the default os (windows) but now it's too late for that. I even booted with a official Ubuntu Quantal distro from the usb pen, and the results are the same. so, my question is: is there any way to check that the camera is righmt or broken? So, if it's broken, at least i can go to the shop, show them that it's really broken and get an external webcam for free, or st like that. cheers. UPDATE 1 Thanks, jrp.   • Bluetooth not working on Acer 3820tg (Ubuntu 12.04)

    After upgrading to 12.04 (it was done by a complete reinstallation), bluetooth doesn't work anymore. Before (I think it was Ubuntu 11.04), I just followed instructions on this page and copied /lib/firmware/ath3k-2.fw to /lib/firmware/ath3k-1.fw and everything was fine. But in 12.04, there isn't any ath3k-2.fw in the /lib directory, so this method is not possible. Also, pressing Fn+F3 doesn't work. I would appreciate any help.     I have bought a 4GB memory upgrade (2x 2GB PC2-5300 SODIMM) for my Acer Aspire 5102WLMi (Aspire 5100 Series) laptop, I installed the two memory modules correctly however with 4GB installed the laptop refuses to POST. I have tried the following: Tried both 2GB SODIMMs without the other (Worked Fine) Tried the original 512MB SODIMMs (Worked Fine) Tried with original 512MB SODIMM and new 2GB SODIMM (Worked Fine) Tried swapping over the 2GB SODIMs (Didn't Boot) Left the computer for 10 minutes with both 2GB SODIMMs installed (Didn't Boot) Checked latest BIOS installed (No Change) The Crucial website said that the laptop supported 4GB of RAM as do several other sites through found through Google, up until now I was fairly confident this would work. Couple of questions that would be good to have answered: Question: Has anyone got an Acer Aspire 5100 Series running with 4GB RAM? Answer: Yes, I have now got one working with 3.75GB Usable, the rest is occupied utilized by the Graphics Card. Question: Any tips on getting this to work; is there a CMOS reset switch? Answer: Yes there is, if both SODIMMs are removed two very small interlocking PCB tracks are revealed. If these are shorted together with a screwdriver the BIOS will be reset. Thanks.

    i have a Acer Aspire One D257. In this netbook the hard disk is defect so i bought a new one. Now i want to reinstall Windows 7. Im using an external DVD Drive plugged into USB. The Windows 7 DVD is staring, Win7 setup is starting and when it comes to Hard Drive options it says that no drive was detected and i should try search for drivers. It shows me this window: Screenshot from web Now i cant find the right drivers for this netbook to continue with the installation. The laptop has the newest BIOS - 1.15, it is reset to factory default settings except that i enabled the Boot Menu prompt with F12. From the Acer Support Website i've downloaded the SATA AHCI Driver and the Chipset Driver. I unpacked both to a USB flashdrive in seperate folders. When i select the SATA AHCI Driver it does not find any drivers. When i uncheck the checkbox "Hide drivers that are not compatible with hardware on this computer" it shows one driver: Acer HWID (path_to\1.inf). When i continue with this driver i got an error message that says something like: No new devices found. Check if the driver files are on the installation disk. When i show him the Chipset Driver it sees a lot more driver. When i uncheck the checkbox "Hide drivers that are not compatible with hardware on this computer" it show some drivers: Intel N10 Family DMI Bridge Intel N10/ICH7 Family PCI Express Root Port Intel N10/ICH7 SMBUS Controller Intel N10/ICH7 Family USB Universal Host Controller Intel N10/ICH7 Family USB2 Enhanced Host Controller Intel N10/ICH7 Family Interface LPC Controller When i uncheck this checkbox i get a lot more drivers, and some SATA Drivers but the also do not work. I get the same error message as before. Can someone help me find a driver that should work or am i doing anything else wrong?

  • Acer Aspire Touchscreen Not Responding

    I have an Acer Aspire z3101 all-in-one Touch screen running Windows 7 Home Premium. I am unable to get the screen to respond to my touch. I have checked the system and all drivers are ok according to comp. Using the settings to setup the pen and touch and to calibrate does not work. My touch brings no response at all. I had reinstalled the applications - Windows Touch Pack and Acer Touch Portal which didn't help. Today I done a complete reinstall returning comp back to factory settings and still there is no response. At first I thought that perhaps a driver or file was missing but now doubt that due to the reinstall not helping. Have you any idea what could be causing this problem? I am now at the stage of pulling my hair out and haven't had too much help from Acer. I have had the computer for just over a year now and so it is no longer under guarantee and this has me very worried due to my being unemployed. Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.

  • Unexpected media key behavior on new Acer Aspire

    I'm having weird issues with the media keys (play/pause, previous, next, etc.) on a new Acer Aspire laptop. This is the first Acer I've owned and also my first Windows 7 computer, so I'm not sure whether the behavior is a result of some hidden Acer process that I haven't rooted out yet, or some Windows 7 option that I'm not aware of, or something else. I'm experiencing two issues that I suspect are related. Both problems are intermittent but happen more often than not. The media player I'm using is Winamp. I'm pretty sure I've had the same problem when using other media players, but when I tried to verify that before posting this, I only had the problems with Winamp. Because the problems are intermittent, I'm not sure if that's significant. 1) When I press the Play/Pause media key, in addition to playing or pausing the media player, it brings up a little menu in the center of the screen that lists my removable drives (CD/DVD, USB drives, etc.). To make the menu go away I have to either click away from it or hit Escape. Selecting a drive on the menu doesn't seem to do anything. 2) When I press the Previous or Next media keys, it skips 2+ tracks instead of just one (the exact number seems to vary). I've poked around all the control panel options that I can find, and looked through all the utilities that came with the computer with no luck. There's nothing that I can find in the (very slim) documentation, either. I have a hunch that the problem is caused by whatever utility manages global hotkeys, but I haven't found any way to configure that. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. UPDATE: It looks like Winamp was the culprit. I did have the problem when using other media players, but when I uninstalled Winamp, the problem went away. I'd like to use Winamp, but I can survive with other players.

    I have this strange problem on the acer aspire one d250. It happened already once before, stayed for about two weeks, and then "fixed itself". The problem is as follows: the battery can't seem to get fully charged; ie the indicator is stuck at about 90% (it's probably not a software problem -- I have ArchLinux and Windows 7 installed and both report exactly the same) and it never passes that value, but it still shows the status as "charging" (I tried everything I could think of -- leaving it charging for extremely long amounts of time, doing a few complete charge-recharge cycles, removing/reinserting the battery, cleaning the connectors, even updating the BIOS, etc., and nothing helped). Also, when it is getting charged, it charges pretty fast until about 70% and then progresses extremely slowly. The battery holds the charge that appears on the battery indicator normally. Just can't get the battery to charge fully -- I can't get it past the 90%. At first I thought this would be a simple battery failure (even if the computer is not that old, about 6-7 months), but as I mentioned it happened once before, and then one day it fixed itself. I tried contacting Acer about this, but the support was not helpful, completely stupid, it seemed like they used canned responses, the usual. Any thoughts on how to fix this?

    I have a Acer Aspire One AOA 150 with Windows Xp Home. I want to monitor the voltages from the power supply, the temperature of the system, the CPU and fan speeds. Much like the functionality of GKrellM(though I haven't used this on the netbook yet) , a GTK applet designed to make an impressive panel of monitors or xsensors in Linux. Is this possible with the netbook? I want a software for Windows 7 and Windows Xp.

  • Can I install an x86 version of XP on an acer aspire one

    I have bought an acer aspire one which has the intel atom processor running linux and am having difficulty getting a 3G USB modem (huwaei e220) working with it. I have spent a significant amount of time trying to get this working but as the modem is not supported on Linux I have now decided to give in and install xp. Is there a specific version of xp that I need for this processor? or can I install the standard x86 version

    I have an Acer AM1100 and I just installed Windows 7 Ultimate. Windows has properly installed but right now, when I boot up the system, I get stuck on "Verify DMI Pool Data". I also tried to reinstalled the whole thing but this happens again... Any takers? It's an Acer AM1100 Athlon x2 2go Ram Sata HDD 320go
