  • How to check all check boxes at a click of a button

    - by LivingThing
I am new to Swing, UI and MVC I have created a code based on MVC. Now my problem is that that in the controller part i have an actioneventlistener which listens to different button clicks. Out of all those buttons i have "select all" and "de-select all". In my view i have a table, one of the column of that table contains "check boxes". Now, when i click the "select-all" button i want to check all the check boxes and with "de-select all" i want to uncheck all of them. Below is my code which is not working. Please tell me what am i doing wrong here. Also, if someone knows a more elagent way please share. Thanks In my view public class CustomerSelectorDialogUI extends JFrame{ public CustomerSelectorDialogUI(TestApplicationUI ownerView, DummyCustomerStore dCStore, boolean modality) { //super(ownerView, modality); setTitle("[=] Customer Selection Dialog [=]"); //setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.DO_NOTHING_ON_CLOSE); custSelectPanel = new JPanel(); buttonPanel = new JPanel(); selectAllButton = new JButton(" Select All "); clearAllButton = new JButton(" Clear All "); applyButton = new JButton(" Apply "); cancelButton = new JButton(" Cancel "); PopulateAndShow(dCStore, Boolean.FALSE); } public void PopulateAndShow(DummyCustomerStore dCStore, Boolean select) { List data = new ArrayList(); for (Customer customer : dCStore.getAllCustomers()) { Object record[] = new Object[COLUMN_COUNT]; record[0] = (select == false) ? As it can be seen that i // have a condition for record[0]. //After the loop, here i have tried several options like validate(). repaint but to no avail customerTable = new JTable(tModel); scrollPane = new JScrollPane(customerTable); setContentPane(this.createContentPane()); setSize(480, 580); setResizable(false); setVisible(true); } private JPanel createContentPane() { custSelectPanel.setLayout(null); customerTable.setDragEnabled(false); customerTable.setFillsViewportHeight(true); scrollPane.setLocation(10, 10); scrollPane.setSize(450,450); custSelectPanel.add(scrollPane); buttonPanel.setLayout(null); buttonPanel.setLocation(10, 480); buttonPanel.setSize(450, 100); custSelectPanel.add(buttonPanel); selectAllButton.setLocation(0, 0); selectAllButton.setSize(100, 40); buttonPanel.add(selectAllButton); clearAllButton.setLocation(110, 0); clearAllButton.setSize(100, 40); buttonPanel.add(clearAllButton); applyButton.setLocation(240, 0); applyButton.setSize(100, 40); buttonPanel.add(applyButton); cancelButton.setLocation(350, 0); cancelButton.setSize(100, 40); buttonPanel.add(cancelButton); return custSelectPanel; } } Table Model private class TableModel extends AbstractTableModel { private List data; public TableModel(List data) { this.data = data; } private String[] columnNames = {"Selected ", "Customer Id ", "Customer Name " }; public int getColumnCount() { return COLUMN_COUNT; } public int getRowCount() { return data == null ? 0 : data.size(); } public String getColumnName(int col) { return columnNames[col]; } public void setValueAt(Object value, int rowIndex, int columnIndex) { getRecord(rowIndex)[columnIndex] = value; super.fireTableCellUpdated(rowIndex, columnIndex); } private Object[] getRecord(int rowIndex) { return (Object[]) data.get(rowIndex); } public Object getValueAt(int rowIndex, int columnIndex) { return getRecord(rowIndex)[columnIndex]; } public Class getColumnClass(int columnIndex) { if (data == null || data.size() == 0) { return Object.class; } Object o = getValueAt(0, columnIndex); return o == null ? • Subterranean IL: Constructor constraints

    - by Simon Cooper
The constructor generic constraint is a slightly wierd one. The ECMA specification simply states that it: constrains [the type] to being a concrete reference type (i.e., not abstract) that has a public constructor taking no arguments (the default constructor), or to being a value type. There seems to be no reference within the spec to how you actually create an instance of a generic type with such a constraint. In non-generic methods, the normal way of creating an instance of a class is quite different to initializing an instance of a value type. For a reference type, you use newobj: newobj instance void IncrementableClass::.ctor() and for value types, you need to use initobj: .locals init ( valuetype IncrementableStruct s1 ) ldloca 0 initobj IncrementableStruct But, for a generic method, we need a consistent method that would work equally well for reference or value types. Activator.CreateInstance<T> To solve this problem the CLR designers could have chosen to create something similar to the constrained. prefix; if T is a value type, call initobj, and if it is a reference type, call newobj instance void !!0::.ctor(). However, this solution is much more heavyweight than constrained callvirt. The newobj call is encoded in the assembly using a simple reference to a row in a metadata table. This encoding is no longer valid for a call to !!0::.ctor(), as different constructor methods occupy different rows in the metadata tables. Furthermore, constructors aren't virtual, so we would have to somehow do a dynamic lookup to the correct method at runtime without using a MethodTable, something which is completely new to the CLR. Trying to do this in IL results in the following verification error: newobj instance void !!0::.ctor() [IL]: Error: Unable to resolve token. This is where Activator.CreateInstance<T> comes in. We can call this method to return us a new T, and make the whole issue Somebody Else's Problem. CreateInstance does all the dynamic method lookup for us, and returns us a new instance of the correct reference or value type (strangely enough, Activator.CreateInstance<T> does not itself have a .ctor constraint on its generic parameter): .method private static !!0 CreateInstance<.ctor T>() { call !!0 [mscorlib]System.Activator::CreateInstance<!!0>() ret } Going further: compiler enhancements Although this method works perfectly well for solving the problem, the C# compiler goes one step further. If you decompile the C# version of the CreateInstance method above: private static T CreateInstance() where T : new() { return new T(); } what you actually get is this (edited slightly for space & clarity): .method private static !!T CreateInstance<.ctor T>() { .locals init ( [0] !!T CS$0$0000, [1] !!T CS$0$0001 ) DetectValueType: ldloca.s 0 initobj !!T ldloc.0 box !!T brfalse.s CreateInstance CreateValueType: ldloca.s 1 initobj !!T ldloc.1 ret CreateInstance: call !!0 [mscorlib]System.Activator::CreateInstance<T>() ret } What on earth is going on here? Looking closer, it's actually quite a clever performance optimization around value types. So, lets dissect this code to see what it does. The CreateValueType and CreateInstance sections should be fairly self-explanatory; using initobj for value types, and Activator.CreateInstance for reference types. How does the DetectValueType section work? First, the stack transition for value types: ldloca.s 0 // &[!!T(uninitialized)] initobj !!T // ldloc.0 // !!T box !!T // O[!!T] brfalse.s // branch not taken When the brfalse.s is hit, the top stack entry is a non-null reference to a boxed !!T, so execution continues to to the CreateValueType section. What about when !!T is a reference type? Remember, the 'default' value of an object reference (type O) is zero, or null. ldloca.s 0 // &[!!T(null)] initobj !!T // ldloc.0 // null box !!T // null brfalse.s // branch taken Because box on a reference type is a no-op, the top of the stack at the brfalse.s is null, and so the branch to CreateInstance is taken. For reference types, Activator.CreateInstance is called which does the full dynamic lookup using reflection. For value types, a simple initobj is called, which is far faster, and also eliminates the unboxing that Activator.CreateInstance has to perform for value types. However, this is strictly a performance optimization; Activator.CreateInstance<T> works for value types as well as reference types. Next... That concludes the initial premise of the Subterranean IL series; to cover the details of generic methods and generic code in IL. I've got a few other ideas about where to go next; however, if anyone has any itching questions, suggestions, or things you've always wondered about IL, do let me know.

  • Using SET NULL and SET DEFAULT with Foreign Key Constraints

Cascading Updates and Deletes, introduced with SQL Server 2000, were such an important, crucial feature that it is hard to imagine providing referential integrity without them. One of the new features in SQL Server 2005 that hasn't gotten a lot of press from what I've read is the new options for the ON DELETE and ON UPDATE clauses: SET NULL and SET DEFAULT. Let's take a look!

  • State Transition Constraints

Data Validation in a database is a lot more complex than seeing if a string parameter really is an integer. A commercial world is full of complex rules for sequences of procedures, of fixed or variable lifespans, Warranties, commercial offers and bids. All this requires considerable subtlety to prevent bad data getting in, and if it does, locating and fixing the problem. Joe Celko shows how useful a State transition graph can be, and how essential it can become with the time aspect added.

  • How to make Chrome spell check the whole text field?

    - by Laurent
On Firefox, whenever a word is incorrect in a text field, it is underlined in red. Chrome does the same but the difference is that it underlines in red only when I move the caret over the word. So if I want to spell check the whole text field, I have to move the caret from the beginning to the end of the text field. Is it possible to make Chrome works more like Firefox and spell check the entire text field automatically?

  • Is it Possible to Use Constraints on Hierarchical Data in a Self-Referential Table?

    - by pbarney
Suppose you have the following table, intended to represent hierarchical data: +--------+-------------+ | Field | Type | +--------+-------------+ | id | int(10) | | parent | int(10) | | name | varchar(45) | +--------+-------------+ The table is self-referential in that the parent_id refers to id. So you might have the following data: +----+--------+---------------+ | id | parent | name | +----+--------+---------------+ | 1 | 0 | fruit | | 2 | 0 | vegetable | | 3 | 1 | apple | | 4 | 1 | orange | | 5 | 3 | red delicious | | 6 | 3 | granny smith | | 7 | 3 | gala | +----+--------+---------------+ Using MySQL, I am trying to impose a (self-referential) foreign key constraint upon the data to cascade on update and prevent deletion of a record if it has any "children." So I used the following: CREATE TABLE `test`.`fruit` ( `id` INT(10) UNSIGNED NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `parent` INT(10) UNSIGNED, `name` VARCHAR(45) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id`), CONSTRAINT `fk_parent` FOREIGN KEY (`parent`) REFERENCES `fruit` (`id`) ON UPDATE CASCADE ON DELETE RESTRICT ) ENGINE = InnoDB; From what I understand, this should fit my requirements. (And parent must default to null to allow insertions, correct?) The problem is, if I change the id of a record, it will not cascade: Cannot delete or update a parent row: a foreign key constraint fails (`test`.`fruit`, CONSTRAINT `fk_parent` FOREIGN KEY (`parent`) REFERENCES `fruit` (`id`) ON UPDATE CASCADE) What am I missing? Feel free to correct me if my terminology is screwed up... I'm new to constraints.

  • Cast then check or check then cast?

    - by jamesrom
Which method is regarded as best practice? Cast first? public string Describe(ICola cola) { var coke = cola as CocaCola; if (coke != null) { string result; // some unique coca-cola only code here. return result; } var pepsi = cola as Pepsi; if (pepsi != null) { string result; // some unique pepsi only code here. return result; } } Or should I check first, cast later? public string Describe(ICola cola) { if (cola is CocaCola) { coke = (CocaCola) cola; string result; // some unique coca-cola only code here. return result; } if (cola is Pepsi) { pepsi = (Pepsi) cola; string result; // some unique pepsi only code here. return result; } } Can you see any other way to do this?

  • .NET regex's not working - 1# check beginning of text entered #2 check structure

    - by Olly
OK it has unfortunately been a while since I've used REGEX and I am struggling to wonder why its not working with my project. I have used Regex Tester which says my two tests are valid but when it comes to testing in my project they get rejected. 1) Check the text starts with certain characters [RegularExpression("(spAPP)",ErrorMessage = "Stored procedures must begin with spAPP")] This seems to accept spAPP on it's own, but not something like spAPPabcdef which I want it to. I am struggling to find the "Ignore rest of the text" attribute with REGEX. 2) A bit more complicated. I have certain naming conventions for AD groups, so an example would be "UK ROLE IT APPLICATION DEV ADMIN", up to the role name there are standards (so I need the "UK ROLE IT APPLICATION DEV" checked. [RegularExpression(@"((UK|FRANCE|GERMANY|USA)\s(ROLE)\s(IT|NON-IT)\s(APPLICATION)\s(DEV|TEST|LIVE))", ErrorMessage = "Please use AD naming standards.")] I think it might be the fact I am using () around all the words, but its easier to read in my code. The RegexTester I found seems to indicate that it's right, but again, in my .NET project, it rejects it. Thanks,

  • Check Your Spelling, Grammar, and Style in Firefox and Chrome

    - by Matthew Guay
Are you tired of making simple writing mistakes that get past your browser’s spell-check?  Here’s how you can get advanced grammar check and more in Firefox and Chrome with After the Deadline. Microsoft Word has spoiled us with grammar, syntax, and spell checking, but the default spell check in Firefox and Chrome still only does basic checks.  Even webapps like Google Docs don’t check more than basic spelling errors.  However, WordPress.com is an exception; it offers advanced spelling, grammar, and syntax checking with its After the Deadline proofing system.  This helps you keep from making embarrassing mistakes on your blog posts, and now, thanks to a couple free browser plugins, it can help you keep from making these mistakes in any website or webapp. After the Deadline in Google Chrome Add the After the Deadline extension (link below) to Chrome as usual. As soon as it’s installed, you’re ready to start improving your online writing.  To check spelling, grammar, and more, click the ABC button that you’ll now see at the bottom of most text boxes online. After a quick scan, grammar mistakes are highlighted in green, complex expressions and other syntax problems are highlighted in blue, and spelling mistakes are highlighted in red as would be expected.  Click on an underlined word to choose one of its recommended changes or ignore the suggestion. Or, if you want more explanation about what was wrong with that word or phrase, click Explain for more info. And, if you forget to run an After the Deadline scan before submitting a text entry, it will automatically check to make sure you still want to submit it.  Click Cancel to go back and check your writing first.   To change the After the Deadline settings, click its icon in the toolbar and select View Options.  Additionally, if you want to disable it on the site you’re on, you can click Disable on this site directly from the popup. From the settings page, you can choose extra things to check for such as double negatives and redundant phrases, as well as add sites and words to ignore. After the Deadline in Firefox Add the After the Deadline add-on to Firefox (link below) as normal. After the Deadline basically the same in Firefox as it does in Chrome.  Select the ABC icon in the lower right corner of textboxes to check them for problems, and After the Deadline will underline the problems as it did in Chrome.  To view a suggested change in Firefox, right-click on the underlined word and select the recommended change or ignore the suggestion. And, if you forget to check, you’ll see a friendly reminder asking if you’re sure you want to submit your text like it is. You can access the After the Deadline settings in Firefox from the menu bar.  Click Tools, then select AtD Preferences.  In Firefox, the settings are in a options dialog with three tabs, but it includes the same options as the Chrome settings page.  Here you can make After the Deadline as correction-happy as you like.   Conclusion The web has increasingly become an interactive place, and seldom does a day go by that we aren’t entering text in forms and comments that may stay online forever.  Even our insignificant tweets are being archived in the Library of Congress.  After the Deadline can help you make sure that your permanent internet record is as grammatically correct as possible.  Even though it doesn’t catch every problem, and even misses some spelling mistakes, it’s still a great help. • How To: Spell Check InfoPath web form in SharePoint 2010

    - by Jeremy Ramos
Originally posted on: http://geekswithblogs.net/JeremyRamos/archive/2013/11/07/how-to-spell-check-infopath-web-form-in-sharepoint-2010.aspxThis is a sequel to my 2011 post about How To: Spell Check InfoPath Web Form in SharePoint. This time I will share how I managed to achieve Spell Checking in SharePoint 2010. This time round, we have changed our Online Forms strategy to use Custom lists instead of Form Libraries. I thought everything will be smooth sailing as we are using all OOTB features. So, we customised a Custom list form using InfoPath and added a few Rich Text Boxes (Spell Check is a requirement for this specific project). All is good in the InfoPath client including the Spell Checker so, happy days, I published straight away. Here comes the surprises now. I browsed to my Custom List and clicked Add New Item. This launched my Form in a modal dialog format. I went to my Rich Text Boxes to check the spell checker, and voila, it's disabled!I tried hacking the FormServer.aspx and the CustomSpellCheckEntirePage.js again but the new FormServer.aspx behaves differently than of MOSS 2007's. I searched for answers in many blogs to no avail. Often ending up being linked to my old blog post. I also tried placing the spell check javascript into a Content Editor Webpart of the Item's New Form and Edit form. It is launching the Spell Check dialog but it's not spellchecking the page correctly. At this point, I decided I needed to get my project across ASAP so enough with experimentations and logged a ticket with Microsoft Premier Support. On a call with the Support Engineer, I browsed through the Custom List and to the item to demonstrate my problem. Suddenly, the Spell Check tab in the toolbar is now Enabled! Surprised? Not much, it's Microsoft!Anyway, to cut my story short, here is a summary of my solution:Navigate to your Custom ListIn the Ribbon Toolbar, navigate to List > Customize List > Form Web Parts > Content Type Forms > (Item) New Form. This will display the newifs.aspx which is the page displayed when Add New Item is clicked. This page, just like any other SharePoint page, contains webparts. In this case, we have the InfoPath Form Web Part.Add a Content Editor Web Part (CEWP) on top of the InfoPath Form Web Part. (A blank CEWP would do for this example)Navigate to Page and click Stop EditingClick Add New Item again and navigate to a Rich Text box. Tadah! The Spell Check tab is now enabled!Do the same steps for the (Item) Edit Form to enable Spell Checks when editing an item. This "no code" solution discovered purely by accident!

  • How to Work Around Limitations in Generic Type Constraints in C#?

    - by Jose
Okay I'm looking for some input, I'm pretty sure this is not currently supported in .NET 3.5 but here goes. I want to require a generic type passed into my class to have a constructor like this: new(IDictionary<string, object>) so the class would look like this public MyClass<T> where T : new(IDictionary<string, object>) { T CreateObject(IDictionary<string, object> values) { return new T(values); } } But the compiler doesn't support this, it doesn't really know what I'm asking. Some of you might ask, why do you want to do this? Well I'm working on a pet project of an ORM so I get values from the DB and then create the object and load the values. I thought it would be cleaner to allow the object just create itself with the values I give it. As far as I can tell I have two options: 1) Use reflection(which I'm trying to avoid) to grab the PropertyInfo[] array and then use that to load the values. 2) require T to support an interface like so: public interface ILoadValues { void LoadValues(IDictionary values); } and then do this public MyClass<T> where T:new(),ILoadValues { T CreateObject(IDictionary<string, object> values) { T obj = new T(); obj.LoadValues(values); return obj; } } The problem I have with the interface I guess is philosophical, I don't really want to expose a public method for people to load the values. Using the constructor the idea was that if I had an object like this namespace DataSource.Data { public class User { protected internal User(IDictionary<string, object> values) { //Initialize } } } As long as the MyClass<T> was in the same assembly the constructor would be available. I personally think that the Type constraint in my opinion should ask (Do I have access to this constructor? I do, great!) Anyways any input is welcome.

  • Any tools or techniques for validating constraints programmatically between databases?

    - by Brandon
If you had two databases, that had two tables between them that would normally implement a one to one (or many to many) constraint but cannot since they are separate databases, how would you validate this relationship in an application or test? Is there a simple way to do this? For example, a tool or technique that can, given a constraint type, tables and fields, does the validation. I imagine that this isn't the first time this come up so I'm hoping people can share their solution. Thanks.

  • How do I create a multiple-table check constraint?

    - by Zack Peterson
Please imagine this small database... Diagram Tables Volunteer Event Shift EventVolunteer ========= ===== ===== ============== Id Id Id EventId Name Name EventId VolunteerId Email Location VolunteerId Phone Day Description Comment Description Start End Associations Volunteers may sign up for multiple events. Events may be staffed by multiple volunteers. An event may have multiple shifts. A shift belongs to only a single event. A shift may be staffed by only a single volunteer. A volunteer may staff multiple shifts. Check Constraints Can I create a check constraint to enforce that no shift is staffed by a volunteer that's not signed up for that shift's event? Can I create a check constraint to enforce that two overlapping shifts are never staffed by the same volunteer?

  • Why is an Ext4 disk check so much faster than NTFS?

    - by Brendan Long
I had a situation today where I restarted my computer and it said I needed to check the disk for consistancy. About 10 minutes later (at "1%" complete), I gave up and decided to let it run when I go home. For comparison, my home computer uses Ext4 for all of the partitions, and the disk checks (which run around once week) only take a couple seconds. I remember reading that having fast disk checks was a priority, but I don't know how they could do that. So, how does Ext4 do disk checks so fast? Is there some huge breakthrough in doing this after NTFS came out (~10 years ago)? Note: The NTFS disk is ~300 GB and the Ext4 disk is ~500 GB. Both are about half full.

  • ASP.Net How to enforce the HTTP get URL format?

    - by Hamish Grubijan
[Sorry about a messy question. I believe I am targeting .Net 2.0 (for now)] Hi, I am an ASP.NET noob. For starters I am building a page that parses a URL string and populates a table in a database. I want that string to be strictly of the form: http://<server>:<port>/PageName.aspx?A=1&B=2&C=3&D=4&E=5 The order of the arguments do not matter, I just do not want any of them missing, or any extras. Here is what I tried (yes, it is ugly; I just want to get it to work first): #if (DEBUG) // Maps parameter names to their human readable names. // Used for error checking. private static Dictionary<string, string> paramNameToDisplayName = new Dictionary<string, string> { { A, "a"}, { B, "b"}, { C, "c"}, { D, "d"}, { E, "e"}, { F, "f"}, }; [Conditional("DEBUG")] private void validateRequestParameters(HttpRequest request) { bool endResponse = false; // Use foreach var foreach (string expectedParameterName in paramNameToDisplayName.Keys) { if (request[expectedParameterName] == null) { Response.Write(String.Format("No parameter \"{0}\", aka {1} was passed to the configuration generator. Check your URL string / cookie.", expectedParameterName, paramNameToDisplayName[expectedParameterName])); endResponse = true; } } // Use foreach var foreach (string actualParameterName in request.Params) { if (!paramNameToDisplayName.ContainsKey(actualParameterName)) { Response.Write(String.Format("The parameter \"{0}\", was passed to the configuration generator, but it was not expected. Check your URL string / cookie.", actualParameterName)); endResponse = true; } } if (endResponse) { Response.End(); } } #endif and it works ok, except that it complains about all sorts of other stuff: http://localhost:1796/AddStatusUpdate.aspx?X=0 No parameter "A", aka a was passed to the configuration generator. Is there some way for me to separate the implicit and the explicit parameters, or is it not doable? Should I even bother? Perhaps the philosophy of get is to just throw away that what is not needed. Thanks!

  • apache spawning too many processes despite maxclient and other constraints

    - by Josh Nankin
Here are my MPM constraints: StartServers 10 MinSpareServers 10 MaxSpareServers 10 MaxClients 10 MaxRequestsPerChild 2000 However despite this, I have over 20 apache processes running currently, and in the past hour or two there have been as many as 40-50. Shouldn't the MaxClient and MaxSpareServers keep the number of processes under control (i.e. about 10)? Is there something I'm missing?

  • Hibernate Validator - Using properties in the constraints xml

    - by Avi Y
Hi, I have just started using hibernate validator. I am creating the constraints in an XML file(not annotations). The only problem I am having is that I would like to use properties inside the constraints. For example: <bean class="MyBean" > <constraint annotation="javax.validation.constraints.Min"> <element name="value">{myProperty}</element> </constraint> </bean> and I would like to define these properties in a separate file. Do you think that's possible? Any help would be appreciated.

  • Delete all records that have no foreign key constraints

    - by Rodney Burton
I have a SQL 2005 table with millions of rows in it that is being hit by users all day and night. This table is referenced by 20 or so other tables that have foreign key constraints. What I am needing to do on a regular basis is delete all records from this table where the "Active" field is set to false AND there are no other records in any of the child tables that reference the parent record. What is the most efficient way of doing this short of trying to delete each one at a time and letting it cause SQL errors on the ones that violate constraints? Also it is not an option to disable the constraints and I cannot cause locks on the parent table for any significant amount of time.
