• Cisco 837 not passing UDP traffic properly (was: DNS query problem)

  We have a setup of ADSL line - Cisco 837 ADSL router - Zyxel ZyWall 35 firewall/NAT - Switch - LAN. It has been fine for years, suddenly DNS resolution stopped working from the LAN to public DNS servers. No changes that I know of, so I can't revert anything. Current behaviour: DNS requests from the LAN using TCP show up in the oubound firewall log, in the Cisco debug log, in the dns-server-firewall, in tcpdump on the DNS server, the answer comes back, it works fine. DNS requests from the LAN using UDP show up in the outbound firewall log, in the Cisco debug log, but does NOT show in the dns-server-firewall, not in tcpdump on the DNS server, times out. DNS requests from the Cisco using UDP show up in the dns-server-firewall and in tcpdump on the DNS server, answer received, works fine. netcat connections to port 53 or a random port by TCP show up in the dns-server-firewall netcat connections to port 53 or a random port by UDP do not show up in the dns-server-firewall Summary: TCP seems fine throughought. UDP works from the Cisco over the ADSL, and it works from the LAN to the Cisco, but it doesn't seem to cross the Cisco 837 properly. Update: confirmed with netcat that any UDP traffic from the LAN is affected, not just traffic to port 53. Update: If I change the firewall's external IP to any other IP in the subnet, this starts working. When I put it back, it stops working. I now suspect it's an ISP issue (does that sound plausible?), and am removing the Cisco config.

• Restore access to Cisco Connect after changing router settings

  I have recently bought Cisco Valet Plus (M20) wireless router (which I recognize now was a mistake, but nevermind). It has two setup options - Cisco Connect software and web-based setup. Cisco Connect software allows changing very small set of settings, web-based setup allows access to almost all settings, except settings for guest network. The problem is that when I use web-based setup, Cisco Connect after some changes refuses to talk to the router, so I can't change guest settings anymore (since web interface doesn't allow to change them). It must be because of some config parameter not matching or some password set wrong - but I don't know where Cisco Connect stores them. So, does anybody have any idea how to make Cisco Connect talk to the router again once I changed the settings through the web interface?

• Cisco Linksys AE2500 wireless adapter not working

  I have a Cisco AE2500 I've used with my laptop to get internet. I had to install the drivers by following this forum: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1805830 But now the blue light on the adapter doesn't turn on at all, but ndiswrapper reports it is connected. I have no connection to the internet on my laptop, and the adapter doesn't show it's blue light on any of the USB ports of my computer or on the 4 port hub I have. Is there some way I can reset something so that the blue light will show again? I'm using Ubuntu 11.10 on a Dell Latitude D505 laptop. EDIT: I deleted and reinstalled the same exact driver and everything worked again.

• Cannot connect with Cisco VPN but can connect with ShrewSoft VPN

  EDIT: We connected an air card to the computer to use a different Internet connection and using the Cisco software, we were able to successfully connect to our VPN server. I just don't understand why the ShrewSoft VPN client would connect but the Cisco connection won't. I'm not our network admin so sorry if I butcher some of the terminology. I have a computer at remote site that connects to our network through Cisco VPN. It uses the Cisco VPN software to do so. The problem is that the computer at this site cannot connect to our VPN because it is getting error "Reason 412: The remote peer is no longer responding." To see if perhaps something on their network was blocking the connection, I installed the ShrewSoft VPN client on the computer, imported our .pcf file and connected with no problem. I have tried two different versions of the Cisco VPN software (4.8.0.* and 5.0.03.*) and have the same problem. I installed Wireshark on the computer and have confirmed (while trying to connect through Cisco) that the computer is trying to contact the VPN server but is not receiving a response. We are not having any other problems regarding users not being able to connect. I'm at a loss at what else to check. I'll be monitoring this and have access to the computer at any time.

• Cisco SG 300-28P PoE switch appears to have damaged my domain server's network IF

  I just replaced the old HP ProCurve switch with a new Cisco SG 300-28P managed switch. It has PoE on all ports. Everything works, except for my domain server that went offline and the network interface appears to be dead. Windows says the network cable is disconnected, and no lights blink on the switch. Tried different cables and different ports on the switch. The Cisco PoE ports are supposed to be auto-sensing, i.e. not to send power to a device that cannot handle it. Is this technique not 100% reliable? The server is a SHUTTLE XS35V2 with an onboard network chip, so it is probably fried. My questions: is this plausible? who's fault is it - Shuttle or Cisco (i.e. which support line should I try first)? UPDATE: I did go back and tried another switch between the server and the Cisco switch, and indeed, the connection came back to live. When everything is powered down and I start fresh, with the server connected to the Cisco switch, the port light will blink for a while and the connection status is "No Internet connection" at first until it goes off after about 20 seconds and the connection status changes to "Network cable disconnected". On the other switch it works. Clearly not a PoE issue now. I will start looking into the Cisco's onboard diagnostic functions, but so far I have not noticed anything unusual in the log.

I can communicate with the subnets on either site from the other and both are connected to the internet, however I need to ensure that all the traffic at my remote site goes through this VPN to my site here. • Fast Ethernet module for Cisco 2620

  I have a Cisco 2620 Router. It comes with one fast ethernet port built in (circled in red), and one old AUI ethernet module is installed (circled in blue). I figure I can put a transceiver on the AUI interface to get a second RJ45 connector. What I'd really like to have is a second fast ethernet connector. The ideal candidate to achieve this would be the NM-1FE-TX module. Cisco claims on their website that this module is not suitable for the Cisco 2620 and Cisco 2620XM. It says so in "Table 2 Physical Limitation of Serial Modules per Chassis". Indeed, this module was designed for the 3600 series of routers. I've seen claims on the internet, however, of people having this module on a 2620XM, and it being fully functional. This claim gains some credibility because of the fact that in Cisco's own Packet Tracer software, you can install this module on the 2620XM router. I'm looking for a definitive answer. Will this module work on a Cisco 2620? Is there perhaps another way to get a second fast ethernet port on this device?

  I have a Cisco 881w, and I would like to setup NBAR in my NetFlow Analyzer. But it says that my router misses this MIB in order to allow NFA to poll the router with snmp to get NBAR infos. From the FAQ page of the NetFlow Analyzer website, it responds to my error: Q. I am able to issue the command "ip nbar protocol-discovery" on the router and see the results. But NFA says my router does not support NBAR, Why? A. Earlier version of IOS supports NBAR discovery only on router. So you can very well execute the command "ip nbar protocol-discovery" on the router and see the results. But NBAR Protocol Discovery MIB(CISCO-NBAR-PROTOCOL-DISCOVERY-MIB) support came only on later releases. This is needed for collecting data via SNMP. Please verify that whether your router IOS supports CISCO-NBAR-PROTOCOL-DISCOVERY-MIB. The missing MIB is: CISCO-NBAR-PROTOCOL-DISCOVERY-MIB I found it here: ftp://ftp.cisco.com/pub/mibs/v2/CISCO-NBAR-PROTOCOL-DISCOVERY-MIB.my But how can I add this MIB into the router?   I'm pulling my hair out figuring this out. My startup-config is good, I can view it with a show command. I'm trying to copy it to a tftp server: asa5505# copy startup-config tftp Address or name of remote host []? ipaddress Destination filename [startup-config]? t !! %Error writing tftp://ipaddress/t (Timed out attempting to connect) On my TFTP server (SolarWinds), I get the following: binary, PUT. I've tried different servers, even one on the same network as the asa ... same results. It'll create a 0 byte file and never do the dump. What's going on? Everything is working normally except for this.

• Is this a common/bug on this PPPoE setting for Cisco ASA 5505?

  We have to change the way the firewall setup due to we've changed the internet provider. The way we setup we have ADSL modem and we have to do a full bridge mode and the firewall configuration has to change from Static IP to Use PPPoE option on Outside interface with PPPoE username and password, CHAP authentication, WAN IP and WAN subnet mask. [See the attachment] It's been working ok with the use of PPPoE option however the issue is that if we un-plug the power cable of the firewall. This "Outside" interface turned to blank - NO WAN IP, PPPoE username and password. So basically, we have to retype this information again. Is this common or a bug? Any ideas? Thanks

• Cisco Pix how to add an additional block of static ip addresses for nat?

  I have a pix 501 with 5 static ip addresses. My isp just gave me 5 more. I am trying to figure out how to add the new block and then how to nat/open at least one of them to an inside machine. So far, I named a new interface "intf2", ip range is 71.11.11.58 - 62 (gateway should 71.11.11.57) imgsvr is the machine I want to nat to one of the (71.11.11.59) new ip addresses. mail (.123) is an example of a machine that is mapped to the current existing 5 ip block (96.11.11.121 gate / 96.11.11.122-127) and working fine. • How can I debug Cisco Firewall ASA "Dispatch Unit" very high CPU utilisation from ASDM?

  I have recently had my first firewall installed so I am very new to this whole situation. I am finding that Dispatch unit is becoming overloaded and it would appear to be the reason I get serious bouts of lag on my server. The firewall has had little configuration apart from me blocking all the ports in "Access Rules" and allowing only the ones the server needs and from where it needs them. I guess what I am after is assistance with locating the issues causing "Dispatch Unit" to take up all the CPU Regards --Edit-- With ASDM statistics I found that packets inbound (peak of 70-100k/sec from <1k/sec normal), traffic inbound (peak of 40-50kbits/sec from <1kbits/sec normal) and CPU all peak at the same time so I am pretty sure it is an attack of some sort but as a beginner with ASA I am not sure how to resolve
