  • Custom links in RichTextBox

    - by IVlad
Suppose I want every word starting with a # to generate an event on double click. For this I have implemented the following test code: private bool IsChannel(Point position, out int start, out int end) { if (richTextBox1.Text.Length == 0) { start = end = -1; return false; } int index = richTextBox1.GetCharIndexFromPosition(position); int stop = index; while (index >= 0 && richTextBox1.Text[index] != '#') { if (richTextBox1.Text[index] == ' ') { break; } --index; } if (index < 0 || richTextBox1.Text[index] != '#') { start = end = -1; return false; } while (stop < richTextBox1.Text.Length && richTextBox1.Text[stop] != ' ') { ++stop; } --stop; start = index; end = stop; return true; } private void richTextBox1_MouseMove(object sender, MouseEventArgs e) { textBox1.Text = richTextBox1.GetCharIndexFromPosition(new Point(e.X, e.Y)).ToString(); int d1, d2; if (IsChannel(new Point(e.X, e.Y), out d1, out d2) == true) { if (richTextBox1.Cursor != Cursors.Hand) { richTextBox1.Cursor = Cursors.Hand; } } else { richTextBox1.Cursor = Cursors.Arrow; } } This handles detecting words that start with # and making the mouse cursor a hand when it hovers over them. However, I have the following two problems: If I try to implement a double click event for richTextBox1, I can detect when a word is clicked, however that word is highlighted (selected), which I'd like to avoid. I can deselect it programmatically by selecting the end of the text, but that causes a flicker, which I would like to avoid. What ways are there to do this? The GetCharIndexFromPosition method returns the index of the character that is closest to the cursor. This means that if the only thing my RichTextBox contains is a word starting with a # then the cursor will be a hand no matter where on the rich text control it is. How can I make it so that it is only a hand when it hovers over an actual word or character that is part of a word I'm interested in? The implemented URL detection also partially suffers from this problem. If I enable detection of URLs and only write www.test.com in the rich text editor, the cursor will be a hand as long as it is on or below the link. It will not be a hand if it's to the right of the link however. I'm fine even with this functionality if making the cursor a hand if and only if it's on the text proves to be too difficult. I'm guessing I'll have to resort to some sort of Windows API calls, but I don't really know where to start. I am using Visual Studio 2008 and I would like to implement this myself. Update: The flickering problem would be solved if I could make it so that no text is selectable through double clicking, only through dragging the mouse cursor. Is this easier to achieve? Because I don't really care if one can select text or not by double clicking in this case.

  • populate a tree view with an xml file

    - by syedsaleemss
Im using .net windows form application. I have an xml file.I want to populate a tree view with data from a xml file. I am doing this using the following code. private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { try { this.Cursor = System.Windows.Forms.Cursors.WaitCursor; //string strXPath = "languages"; string strRootNode = "Treeview Sample"; OpenFileDialog Dlg = new OpenFileDialog(); Dlg.Filter = "All files(*.*)|*.*|xml file (*.xml)|*.txt"; Dlg.CheckFileExists = true; string xmlfilename = ""; if (Dlg.ShowDialog() == DialogResult.OK) { xmlfilename = Dlg.FileName; } // Load the XML file. //XmlDocument dom = new XmlDocument(); //dom.Load(xmlfilename); XmlDocument doc = new XmlDocument(); doc.Load(xmlfilename); string rootName = doc.SelectSingleNode("/*").Name; textBox4.Text = rootName.ToString(); //XmlNode root = dom.LastChild; //textBox4.Text = root.Name.ToString(); // Load the XML into the TreeView. this.treeView1.Nodes.Clear(); this.treeView1.Nodes.Add(new TreeNode(strRootNode)); TreeNode tNode = new TreeNode(); tNode = this.treeView1.Nodes[0]; XmlNodeList oNodes = doc.SelectNodes(textBox4.Text); XmlNode xNode = oNodes.Item(0).ParentNode; AddNode(ref xNode, ref tNode); this.treeView1.CollapseAll(); this.treeView1.Nodes[0].Expand(); this.Cursor = System.Windows.Forms.Cursors.Default; } catch (Exception ex) { this.Cursor = System.Windows.Forms.Cursors.Default; MessageBox.Show(ex.Message, "Error"); } } private void AddNode(ref XmlNode inXmlNode, ref TreeNode inTreeNode) { // Recursive routine to walk the XML DOM and add its nodes to a TreeView. XmlNode xNode; TreeNode tNode; XmlNodeList nodeList; int i; // Loop through the XML nodes until the leaf is reached. // Add the nodes to the TreeView during the looping process. if (inXmlNode.HasChildNodes) { nodeList = inXmlNode.ChildNodes; for (i = 0; i <= nodeList.Count - 1; i++) { xNode = inXmlNode.ChildNodes[i]; inTreeNode.Nodes.Add(new TreeNode(xNode.Name)); tNode = inTreeNode.Nodes[i]; AddNode(ref xNode, ref tNode); } } else { inTreeNode.Text = inXmlNode.OuterXml.Trim(); } } My xml file is this:"hello.xml" - - abc hello how ru - def i m fine - ghi how abt u Now after using the above code I am able to populate the tree view. But I dont like to populate the complete xml file. I should get only till languages language key value I don't want abc how are you etc..... I mean to say the leaf nodes. Please help me

  • SQL SERVER – Weekly Series – Memory Lane – #049

    - by Pinal Dave
Here is the list of selected articles of SQLAuthority.com across all these years. Instead of just listing all the articles I have selected a few of my most favorite articles and have listed them here with additional notes below it. Let me know which one of the following is your favorite article from memory lane. 2007 Two Connections Related Global Variables Explained – @@CONNECTIONS and @@MAX_CONNECTIONS @@CONNECTIONS Returns the number of attempted connections, either successful or unsuccessful since SQL Server was last started. @@MAX_CONNECTIONS Returns the maximum number of simultaneous user connections allowed on an instance of SQL Server. The number returned is not necessarily the number currently configured. Query Editor – Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio This post may be very simple for most of the users of SQL Server 2005. Earlier this year, I have received one question many times – Where is Query Analyzer in SQL Server 2005? I wrote small post about it and pointed many users to that post – SQL SERVER – 2005 Query Analyzer – Microsoft SQL SERVER Management Studio. Recently I have been receiving similar question. OUTPUT Clause Example and Explanation with INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE SQL Server 2005 has a new OUTPUT clause, which is quite useful. OUTPUT clause has access to insert and deleted tables (virtual tables) just like triggers. OUTPUT clause can be used to return values to client clause. OUTPUT clause can be used with INSERT, UPDATE, or DELETE to identify the actual rows affected by these statements. OUTPUT clause can generate a table variable, a permanent table, or temporary table. Even though, @@Identity will still work with SQL Server 2005, however I find the OUTPUT clause very easy and powerful to use. Let us understand the OUTPUT clause using an example. Find Name of The SQL Server Instance Based on database server stored procedures has to run different logic. We came up with two different solutions. 1) When database schema is very much changed, we wrote completely new stored procedure and deprecated older version once it was not needed. 2) When logic depended on Server Name we used global variable @@SERVERNAME. It was very convenient while writing migrating script which depended on the server name for the same database. Explanation of TRY…CATCH and ERROR Handling With RAISEERROR Function One of the developers at my company thought that we can not use the RAISEERROR function in new feature of SQL Server 2005 TRY… CATCH. When asked for an explanation he suggested SQL SERVER – 2005 Explanation of TRY… CATCH and ERROR Handling article as excuse suggesting that I did not give example of RAISEERROR with TRY…CATCH. We all thought it was funny. Just to keep records straight, TRY… CATCH can sure use RAISEERROR function. Different Types of Cache Objects Serveral kinds of objects can be stored in the procedure cache: Compiled Plans: When the query optimizer finishes compiling a query plan, the principal output is compiled plan. Execution contexts: While executing a compiled plan, SQL Server has to keep track of information about the state of execution. Cursors: Cursors track the execution state of server-side cursors, including the cursor’s current location within a resultset. Algebrizer trees: The Algebrizer’s job is to produce an algebrizer tree, which represents the logic structure of a query. Open SSMS From Command Prompt – sqlwb.exe Example This article is written by request and suggestion of Sr. Web Developer at my organization. Due to the nature of this article most of the content is referred from Book On-Line. sqlwbcommand prompt utility which opens SQL Server Management Studio. Squib command does not run queries from the command prompt. sqlcmd utility runs queries from command prompt, read for more information. 2008 Puzzle – Solution – Computed Columns Datatype Explanation Just a day before I wrote article SQL SERVER – Puzzle – Computed Columns Datatype Explanation which was inspired by SQL Server MVP Jacob Sebastian. I suggest that before continuing this article read the original puzzle question SQL SERVER – Puzzle – Computed Columns Datatype Explanation. The question was if the computed column was of datatype TINYINT how to create a Computed Column of datatype INT? 2008 – Find If Index is Being Used in Database It is very often I get a query that how to find if any index is being used in the database or not. If any database has many indexes and not all indexes are used it can adversely affect performance. If the number of indices are higher it reduces the INSERT / UPDATE / DELETE operation but increase the SELECT operation. It is recommended to drop any unused indexes from table to improve the performance. 2009 Interesting Observation – Execution Plan and Results of Aggregate Concatenation Queries If you want to see what’s going on here, I think you need to shift your point of view from an implementation-centric view to an ANSI point of view. ANSI does not guarantee processing the order. Figure 2 is interesting, but it will be potentially misleading if you don’t understand the ANSI rule-set SQL Server operates under in most cases. Implementation thinking can certainly be useful at times when you really need that multi-million row query to finish before the backup fire off, but in this case, it’s counterproductive to understanding what is going on. SQL Server Management Studio and Client Statistics Client Statistics are very important. Many a times, people relate queries execution plan to query cost. This is not a good comparison. Both parameters are different, and they are not always related. It is possible that the query cost of any statement is less, but the amount of the data returned is considerably larger, which is causing any query to run slow. How do we know if any query is retrieving a large amount data or very little data? 2010 I encourage all of you to go through complete series and write your own on the subject. If you write an article and send it to me, I will publish it on this blog with due credit to you. If you write on your own blog, I will update this blog post pointing to your blog post. SQL SERVER – ORDER BY Does Not Work – Limitation of the View 1 SQL SERVER – Adding Column is Expensive by Joining Table Outside View – Limitation of the View 2 SQL SERVER – Index Created on View not Used Often – Limitation of the View 3 SQL SERVER – SELECT * and Adding Column Issue in View – Limitation of the View 4 SQL SERVER – COUNT(*) Not Allowed but COUNT_BIG(*) Allowed – Limitation of the View 5 SQL SERVER – UNION Not Allowed but OR Allowed in Index View – Limitation of the View 6 SQL SERVER – Cross Database Queries Not Allowed in Indexed View – Limitation of the View 7 SQL SERVER – Outer Join Not Allowed in Indexed Views – Limitation of the View 8 SQL SERVER – SELF JOIN Not Allowed in Indexed View – Limitation of the View 9 SQL SERVER – Keywords View Definition Must Not Contain for Indexed View – Limitation of the View 10 SQL SERVER – View Over the View Not Possible with Index View – Limitations of the View 11 SQL SERVER – Get Query Running in Session I was recently looking for syntax where I needed a query running in any particular session. I always remembered the syntax and ha d actually written it down before, but somehow it was not coming to mind quickly this time. I searched online and I ended up on my own article written last year SQL SERVER – Get Last Running Query Based on SPID. I felt that I am getting old because I forgot this really simple syntax. Find Total Number of Transaction on Interval In one of my recent Performance Tuning assignments I was asked how do someone know how many transactions are happening on a server during certain interval. I had a handy script for the same. Following script displays transactions happened on the server at the interval of one minute. You can change the WAITFOR DELAY to any other interval and it should work. 2011 Here are two DMV’s which are newly introduced in SQL Server 2012 and provides vital information about SQL Server. DMV – sys.dm_os_volume_stats – Information about operating system volume DMV – sys.dm_os_windows_info – Information about Operating System SQL Backup and FTP – A Quick and Handy Tool I have used this tool extensively since 2009 at numerous occasion and found it to be very impressive. What separates it from the crowd the most – it is it’s apparent simplicity and speed. When I install SQLBackupAndFTP and configure backups – all in 1 or 2 minutes, my clients are always impressed. Quick Note about JOIN – Common Questions and Simple Answers In this blog post we are going to talk about join and lots of things related to the JOIN. I recently started office hours to answer questions and issues of the community. I receive so many questions that are related to JOIN. I will share a few of the same over here. Most of them are basic, but note that the basics are of great importance. 2012 Importance of User Without Login Question: “In recent version of SQL Server we can create user without login. What is the use of it?” Great question indeed. Let me first attempt to answer this question but after reading my answer I need your help. I want you to help him as well with adding more value to it. Preserve Leading Zero While Coping to Excel from SSMS Earlier I wrote two articles about how to efficiently copy data from SSMS to Excel. Since I wrote that post there are plenty of interest generated on this subject. There are a few questions I keep on getting over this subject. One of the question is how to get the leading zero preserved while copying the data from SSMS to Excel. Well it is almost the same way as my earlier post SQL SERVER – Excel Losing Decimal Values When Value Pasted from SSMS ResultSet. The key here is in EXCEL and not in SQL Server. Solution – 2 T-SQL Puzzles – Display Star and Shortest Code to Display 1 Earlier on this blog we had asked two puzzles. The response from all of you is nothing but Amazing. I have received 350+ responses. Many are valid and many were indeed something I had not thought about it. I strongly suggest you read all the puzzles and their answers here - trust me if you start reading the comments you will not stop till you read every single comment. Seriously trust me on it. Personally I have learned a lot from it. Identify Most Resource Intensive Queries – SQL in Sixty Seconds #028 – Video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvlYy-TGaaA Importance of User Without Login – T-SQL Demo Script Earlier I wrote a blog post about SQL SERVER – Importance of User Without Login and my friend and SQL Expert Vinod Kumar has written excellent follow up blog post about Contained Databases inside SQL Server 2012. Now lots of people asked me if I can also explain the same concept again so here is the small demonstration for it. Let me show you how login without user can help. Before we continue on this subject I strongly recommend that you read my earlier blog post here. In following demo I am going to demonstrate following situation. • Inequality joins, Asynchronous transformations and Lookups : SSIS

    - by jamiet
It is pretty much accepted by SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) developers that synchronous transformations are generally quicker than asynchronous transformations (for a description of synchronous and asynchronous transformations go read Asynchronous and synchronous data flow components). Notice I said “generally” and not “always”; there are circumstances where using asynchronous transformations can be beneficial and in this blog post I’ll demonstrate such a scenario, one that is pretty common when building data warehouses. Imagine I have a [Customer] dimension table that manages information about all of my customers as a slowly-changing dimension. If that is a type 2 slowly changing dimension then you will likely have multiple rows per customer in that table. Furthermore you might also have datetime fields that indicate the effective time period of each member record. Here is such a table that contains data for four dimension members {Terry, Max, Henry, Horace}: Notice that we have multiple records per customer and that the [SCDStartDate] of a record is equivalent to the [SCDEndDate] of the record that preceded it (if there was one). (Note that I am on record as saying I am not a fan of this technique of storing an [SCDEndDate] but for the purposes of clarity I have included it here.) Anyway, the idea here is that we will have some incoming data containing [CustomerName] & [EffectiveDate] and we need to use those values to lookup [Customer].[CustomerId]. The logic will be: Lookup a [CustomerId] WHERE [CustomerName]=[CustomerName] AND [SCDStartDate] <= [EffectiveDate] AND [EffectiveDate] <= [SCDEndDate] The conventional approach to this would be to use a full cached lookup but that isn’t an option here because we are using inequality conditions. The obvious next step then is to use a non-cached lookup which enables us to change the SQL statement to use inequality operators: Let’s take a look at the dataflow: Notice these are all synchronous components. This approach works just fine however it does have the limitation that it has to issue a SQL statement against your lookup set for every row thus we can expect the execution time of our dataflow to increase linearly in line with the number of rows in our dataflow; that’s not good. OK, that’s the obvious method. Let’s now look at a different way of achieving this using an asynchronous Merge Join transform coupled with a Conditional Split. I’ve shown it post-execution so that I can include the row counts which help to illustrate what is going on here: Notice that there are more rows output from our Merge Join component than on the input. That is because we are joining on [CustomerName] and, as we know, we have multiple records per [CustomerName] in our lookup set. Notice also that there are two asynchronous components in here (the Sort and the Merge Join). I have embedded a video below that compares the execution times for each of these two methods. The video is just over 8minutes long. View on Vimeo  For those that can’t be bothered watching the video I’ll tell you the results here. The dataflow that used the Lookup transform took 36 seconds whereas the dataflow that used the Merge Join took less than two seconds. An illustration in case it is needed: Pretty conclusive proof that in some scenarios it may be quicker to use an asynchronous component than a synchronous one. Your mileage may of course vary. The scenario outlined here is analogous to performance tuning procedural SQL that uses cursors. It is common to eliminate cursors by converting them to set-based operations and that is effectively what we have done here. Our non-cached lookup is performing a discrete operation for every single row of data, exactly like a cursor does. By eliminating this cursor-in-disguise we have dramatically sped up our dataflow. I hope all of that proves useful. You can download the package that I demonstrated in the video from my SkyDrive at http://cid-550f681dad532637.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Public/BlogShare/20100514/20100514%20Lookups%20and%20Merge%20Joins.zip Comments are welcome as always. @Jamiet Share this post: email it! | bookmark it! | digg it! | reddit! | kick it! | live it!

  • Bluetooth development on Windows mobile 6 C#

    - by cheesebunz
Hi everyone, i recently started on a project which is a puzzle slider game. This application will be using the Bluetooth, and i'm working on the mobile,Samsung omnia i900. This is how my application will work. Any user with this Samsung device plays the game and starts sliding the tiles. There is an option to search and connect to other users with the same device and application, so that they can solve the puzzle together. Right now, i'm working on the Bluetooth Part but am still new to the API. I'm using the 32feet.NET inthehandpersonal.net class library while encountering much difficulties. I am able to search for devices by using: private void btnSearch_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { BluetoothRadio.PrimaryRadio.Mode = RadioMode.Discoverable; BluetoothRadio myRadio = BluetoothRadio.PrimaryRadio; lblSearch.Text = "" + myRadio.LocalAddress.ToString(); bluetoothClient = new BluetoothClient(); Cursor.Current = Cursors.WaitCursor; BluetoothDeviceInfo[] bluetoothDeviceInfo = { }; bluetoothDeviceInfo = bluetoothClient.DiscoverDevices(10); comboBox1.DataSource = bluetoothDeviceInfo; comboBox1.DisplayMember = "DeviceName"; comboBox1.ValueMember = "DeviceAddress"; comboBox1.Focus(); Cursor.Current = Cursors.Default; } Well, to be honest this is a rip off from some sources i found on the internet but i do understand this part. Next i went on to trying to sending a simple "testing.txt" file and i'm stucked at it. I think i will be using something like the OBEX and Obexwebrequest, obexwebresponse, Uri etc. Could anyone explain it in simple terms for me so that i could understand what they are so that i could continue pairing and etc on Bluetooth development. Sorry making it this long, really appreciate if anyone did waste some time reading it :). Hope alanM sees this :) i'm using their bluetooth library.

  • How to convert this code-based WPF tooltip to Silverlight?

    - by Edward Tanguay
    The following ToolTip code works in WPF. I'm trying to get it to work in Silverlight. But it gives me these errors: TextBlock does not contain a definition for ToolTip. Cursors does not contain a definition for Help. ToolTipService does not contain a definition for SetInitialShowDelay. How can I get this to work in Silverlight? using System.Windows; using System.Windows.Controls; using System.Windows.Input; using System.Windows.Media; namespace TestHover29282 { public partial class Window1 : Window { public Window1() { InitializeComponent(); AddCustomer("Jim Smith"); AddCustomer("Joe Jones"); AddCustomer("Angie Jones"); AddCustomer("Josh Smith"); } void AddCustomer(string name) { TextBlock tb = new TextBlock(); tb.Text = name; ToolTip tt = new ToolTip(); tt.Content = "This is some info on " + name + "."; tb.ToolTip = tt; tt.Cursor = Cursors.Help; ToolTipService.SetInitialShowDelay(tb, 0); MainStackPanel.Children.Add(tb); } } }

  • MS SQL SELECT stored procedure according to combobox.selectedvalue

    - by Jay
Hello, In order to fill a datagridview according to the selectedvalue of a combobox I've tried creating a stored procedure. However, as I'm not 100% sure what I'm doing it, depending on the WHERE statement at the end of my stored procedure, either returns everything within the table or nothing at all. This is what's in my class: Public Function GetAankoopDetails(ByRef DisplayMember As String, ByRef ValueMember As String) As DataTable DisplayMember = "AankoopDetailsID" ValueMember = "AankoopDetailsID" If DS.Tables.Count > 0 Then DS.Tables.Remove(DT) End If DT = DAC.ExecuteDataTable(My.Resources.S_AankoopDetails, _Result, _ DAC.Parameter(Const_AankoopID, AankoopID), _ DAC.Parameter("@ReturnValue", 0)) DS.Tables.Add(DT) Return DT End Function Public Function GetAankoopDetails() As DataTable If DS.Tables.Count > 0 Then DS.Tables.Remove(DT) End If DT = DAC.ExecuteDataTable(My.Resources.S_AankoopDetails, _Result, _ DAC.Parameter(Const_AankoopID, AankoopID), _ DAC.Parameter("@ReturnValue", 0)) DS.Tables.Add(DT) Return DT End Function This is the function in the code behind the form I've written in order to fill the datagridview: Private Sub GridAankoopDetails_Fill() Try Me.Cursor = Cursors.WaitCursor dgvAankoopDetails.DataSource = Nothing _clsAankoopDetails.AankoopDetailsID = cboKeuze.SelectedValue dgvAankoopDetails.DataSource = _clsAankoopDetails.GetAankoopDetails Catch ex As Exception MessageBox.Show("An error occurred while trying to fill the data grid: " & ex.Message, "Oops!", MessageBoxButtons.OK) Finally Me.Cursor = Cursors.Default End Try End Sub And finally, this is my stored procedure: (do note that I'm not sure what I'm doing here) USE [Budget] GO /****** Object: StoredProcedure [dbo].[S_AankoopDetails] Script Date: 04/12/2010 03:10:52 ******/ SET ANSI_NULLS ON GO SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON GO ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[S_AankoopDetails] ( @AankoopID int, @ReturnValue int output ) AS declare @Value int set @Value =@@rowcount if @Value = 0 begin SELECT dbo.tblAankoopDetails.AankoopDetailsID, dbo.tblAankoopDetails.AankoopID, dbo.tblAankoopDetails.ArtikelID, dbo.tblAankoopDetails.Aantal, dbo.tblAankoopDetails.Prijs, dbo.tblAankoopDetails.Korting, dbo.tblAankoopDetails.SoortKorting, dbo.tblAankoopDetails.UitgavenDeelGroepID FROM dbo.tblAankoopDetails INNER JOIN dbo.tblAankoop ON dbo.tblAankoopDetails.AankoopID = dbo.tblAankoop.AankoopID INNER JOIN dbo.tblArtikel ON dbo.tblAankoopDetails.ArtikelID = dbo.tblArtikel.ArtikelID INNER JOIN dbo.tblUitgavenDeelGroep ON dbo.tblAankoopDetails.UitgavenDeelGroepID = dbo.tblUitgavenDeelGroep.UitgavenDeelGroepID WHERE dbo.tblAankoopDetails.Deleted = 0 and dbo.tblAankoopDetails.AankoopID = @AankoopID ORDER BY AankoopID if @@rowcount >0 begin set @ReturnValue=999 end else begin set @ReturnValue=997 end end if @Value >0 begin --Dit wil zeggen dat ik een gebruiker wil ingeven die reeds bestaat. (998) set @ReturnValue=998 end Does anyone know what I'm need to do to resolve this? Kind regards, Jay

  • SQL Server SELECT stored procedure according to combobox.selectedvalue

    - by Jay
In order to fill a datagridview according to the selectedvalue of a combobox I've tried creating a stored procedure. However, as I'm not 100% sure what I'm doing, depending on the WHERE statement at the end of my stored procedure, it either returns everything within the table or nothing at all. This is what's in my class: Public Function GetAankoopDetails(ByRef DisplayMember As String, ByRef ValueMember As String) As DataTable DisplayMember = "AankoopDetailsID" ValueMember = "AankoopDetailsID" If DS.Tables.Count > 0 Then DS.Tables.Remove(DT) End If DT = DAC.ExecuteDataTable(My.Resources.S_AankoopDetails, _Result, _ DAC.Parameter(Const_AankoopID, AankoopID), _ DAC.Parameter("@ReturnValue", 0)) DS.Tables.Add(DT) Return DT End Function Public Function GetAankoopDetails() As DataTable If DS.Tables.Count > 0 Then DS.Tables.Remove(DT) End If DT = DAC.ExecuteDataTable(My.Resources.S_AankoopDetails, _Result, _ DAC.Parameter(Const_AankoopID, AankoopID), _ DAC.Parameter("@ReturnValue", 0)) DS.Tables.Add(DT) Return DT End Function This is the function in the code behind the form I've written in order to fill the datagridview: Private Sub GridAankoopDetails_Fill() Try Me.Cursor = Cursors.WaitCursor dgvAankoopDetails.DataSource = Nothing _clsAankoopDetails.AankoopDetailsID = cboKeuze.SelectedValue dgvAankoopDetails.DataSource = _clsAankoopDetails.GetAankoopDetails Catch ex As Exception MessageBox.Show("An error occurred while trying to fill the data grid: " & ex.Message, "Oops!", MessageBoxButtons.OK) Finally Me.Cursor = Cursors.Default End Try End Sub And finally, this is my stored procedure: (do note that I'm not sure what I'm doing here) USE [Budget] GO /****** Object: StoredProcedure [dbo].[S_AankoopDetails] Script Date: 04/12/2010 03:10:52 ******/ SET ANSI_NULLS ON GO SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON GO ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[S_AankoopDetails] ( @AankoopID int, @ReturnValue int output ) AS declare @Value int set @Value =@@rowcount if @Value = 0 begin SELECT dbo.tblAankoopDetails.AankoopDetailsID, dbo.tblAankoopDetails.AankoopID, dbo.tblAankoopDetails.ArtikelID, dbo.tblAankoopDetails.Aantal, dbo.tblAankoopDetails.Prijs, dbo.tblAankoopDetails.Korting, dbo.tblAankoopDetails.SoortKorting, dbo.tblAankoopDetails.UitgavenDeelGroepID FROM dbo.tblAankoopDetails INNER JOIN dbo.tblAankoop ON dbo.tblAankoopDetails.AankoopID = dbo.tblAankoop.AankoopID INNER JOIN dbo.tblArtikel ON dbo.tblAankoopDetails.ArtikelID = dbo.tblArtikel.ArtikelID INNER JOIN dbo.tblUitgavenDeelGroep ON dbo.tblAankoopDetails.UitgavenDeelGroepID = dbo.tblUitgavenDeelGroep.UitgavenDeelGroepID WHERE dbo.tblAankoopDetails.Deleted = 0 and dbo.tblAankoopDetails.AankoopID = @AankoopID ORDER BY AankoopID if @@rowcount >0 begin set @ReturnValue=999 end else begin set @ReturnValue=997 end end if @Value >0 begin --Dit wil zeggen dat ik een gebruiker wil ingeven die reeds bestaat. (998) set @ReturnValue=998 end Does anyone know what I need to do to resolve this?

  • Delphi, PGDac vs Zeos, Fetch, Lookup?

    - by durumdara
Hi! I used Zeos to test to know: is ZTable uses fetch technics, or not? May in the future we migrate our lesser system to PGSQL, and this used now "Table" components (as BDE, but it have an SQL-like server). These tables use real cursors, a "Window" with N record, so lookup is very fast, because the Locate/Lookup is started on server, and only these N records are refreshed, no matter, how many records in the lookup table. PGSQL uses fetch technics as I know, and I tested it with a table (id int, name varchar(100)), and 1 million records. (I also trying this with mysql). The adapter is Zeos. ID, sec to find, allocated memory in bytes on client. MySQL 500000 2,761 113 196 344 1000000 3,214 225 471 232 313800 0,437 225 471 232 328066 0,468 225 471 232 276374 0,390 225 471 232 905984 1,264 225 471 232 260253 0,359 225 471 232 PGSQL 500000 3,042 113 188 184 1000000 3,744 225 463 064 313800 0,436 225 463 064 328066 0,452 225 463 064 276374 0,375 225 463 064 905984 1,295 225 463 064 260253 0,359 225 463 064 142023 0,203 225 463 064 As you see the records are fetched locally, this cause the 225 MB usage, and searches are slow a little, based where is the record we must find. I want to ask more things: a.) Is PGDAC have some technics to we can use the lookups without pay the fetch with memory and secs? b.) Or is PG ODBC driver can help in this problem with ADO? (As I know ADO can use server side cursors)? c.) Have anybody some experience with lookup tables, and performance? Is this critical question or it is not? (With client memory usage too). d.) If no chance to avoid fetch hell with lookups, what we can do? Server Side Joins, and unique code for Lookup field changing without real Lookup? Thanks for your help: dd

  • ways to avoid global temp tables in oracle

    - by Omnipresent
We just converted our sql server stored procedures to oracle procedures. Sql Server SP's were highly dependent on session tables (INSERT INTO #table1...) these tables got converted as global temporary tables in oracle. We ended up with aroun 500 GTT's for our 400 SP's Now we are finding out that working with GTT's in oracle is considered a last option because of performance and other issues. what other alternatives are there? Collections? Cursors? Our typical use of GTT's is like so: Insert into GTT INSERT INTO some_gtt_1 (column_a, column_b, column_c) (SELECT someA, someB, someC FROM TABLE_A WHERE condition_1 = 'YN756' AND type_cd = 'P' AND TO_NUMBER(TO_CHAR(m_date, 'MM')) = '12' AND (lname LIKE (v_LnameUpper || '%') OR lname LIKE (v_searchLnameLower || '%')) AND (e_flag = 'Y' OR it_flag = 'Y' OR fit_flag = 'Y')); Update the GTT UPDATE some_gtt_1 a SET column_a = (SELECT b.data_a FROM some_table_b b WHERE a.column_b = b.data_b AND a.column_c = 'C') WHERE column_a IS NULL OR column_a = ' '; and later on get the data out of the GTT. These are just sample queries, in actuality the queries are really complext with lot of joins and subqueries. I have a three part question: Can someone show how to transform the above sample queries to collections and/or cursors? Since with GTT's you can work natively with SQL...why go away from the GTTs? are they really that bad. What should be the guidelines on When to use and When to avoid GTT's

  • In Python, how to make sure database connection will always close before leaving a code block?

    - by Cawas
I want to prevent database connection being open as much as possible, because this code will run on an intensive used server and people here already told me database connections should always be closed as soon as possible. def do_something_that_needs_database (): dbConnection = MySQLdb.connect(host=args['database_host'], user=args['database_user'], passwd=args['database_pass'], db=args['database_tabl'], cursorclass=MySQLdb.cursors.DictCursor) dbCursor = dbConnection.cursor() dbCursor.execute('SELECT COUNT(*) total FROM table') row = dbCursor.fetchone() if row['total'] == 0: print 'error: table have no records' dbCursor.execute('UPDATE table SET field="%s"', whatever_value) return None print 'table is ok' dbCursor.execute('UPDATE table SET field="%s"', another_value) # a lot more of workflow done here dbConnection.close() # even more stuff would come below I believe that leaves a database connection open when there is no row on the table, tho I'm still really not sure how it works. Anyway, maybe that is bad design in the sense that I could open and close a DB connection after each small block of execute. And sure, I could just add a close right before the return in that case... But how could I always properly close the DB without having to worry if I have that return, or a raise, or continue, or whatever in the middle? I'm thinking in something like a code block, similar to using try, like in the following suggestion, which obviously doesn't work: def do_something_that_needs_database (): dbConnection = MySQLdb.connect(host=args['database_host'], user=args['database_user'], passwd=args['database_pass'], db=args['database_tabl'], cursorclass=MySQLdb.cursors.DictCursor) try: dbCursor = dbConnection.cursor() dbCursor.execute('SELECT COUNT(*) total FROM table') row = dbCursor.fetchone() if row['total'] == 0: print 'error: table have no records' dbCursor.execute('UPDATE table SET field="%s"', whatever_value) return None print 'table is ok' dbCursor.execute('UPDATE table SET field="%s"', another_value) # again, that same lot of line codes done here except ExitingCodeBlock: closeDb(dbConnection) # still, that "even more stuff" from before would come below I don't think there is anything similar to ExitingCodeBlock for an exception, tho I know there is the try else, but I hope Python already have a similar feature... Or maybe someone can suggest me a paradigm move and tell me this is awful and highly advise me to never do that. Maybe this is just something to not worry about and let MySQLdb handle it, or is it?

  • Setting Cursor property has no effect (C#)

    - by Knarf Navillus
Hello, I have a class that I've derived from System.Windows.Forms.Panel, and my application has a main form with one of these panels. On the whole, the panel works great! The only thing I'm having trouble with is setting the cursor. Whether I'm setting it to one of the static members of the Cursors class (Default, WaitCursor, etc.) or setting it to a custom cursor that I've loaded from a resource, the end result is the same: it does nothing. I still see the default mouse pointer, no matter what. This line of code is inside a method of my panel-derived class: this.Cursor = Cursors.WaitCursor; I can set a break point there, and see that this line is being hit when I expect it to. I've also created an override for the OnCursorChanged method, and set a breakpoint in there just to see if it's being triggered. I can verify that both breakpoints are being hit when I expect them to. However, the cursor just never changes. There must be something that I'm missing. Does anyone have any ideas? P.S. I also did try setting Current.Cursor as well, however that did not help.

  • TempDB is Full Issue for SQL Server 2000

    - by Jason N. Gaylord
Even though the log file shows that there is over 1 GB of free space, we start receiving an error message every 3 or 4 days saying that the TempDB file is full. I know cursors impact the TempDB file, but is there anything else I should be looking at to see why this keeps happening? I've tried running SQL Profiler, but when running it, it slowed down the DB so much that the users were experiencing timeouts. What specific items should I check for in SQL Profiler?

  • Multi mouse, keyboard and monitors

    - by Click Ok
I've got a USB hub with 4 ports, and I've plugged 2 usb keyboards and 2 usb mouses. They work very fine. I've setup'ed 2 monitors too, so I was thinking about the possibility of the mouse and keyboards works independent one of another. I want two mouse pointers (I think each with different colors) and 2 keyboard cursors. I think it a nice idea, but I don't know if this is possible... :( PS: My OS is Windows7

  • LINQ und ArcObjects

    - by Marko Apfel
Denkbar wäre dann folgendes Konstrukt: var largeFeatures = from feature in features where (feature.GetValue("SHAPE_Area").ToDouble() > 3000) select feature; bzw. dessen Äquivalent als Lambda-Expression: var largeFeatures = features.Where(feature => (feature. Search(queryFilter, RecyclingPolicy.Recycle == policy); IFeature feature; while (null != (feature = featureCursor.NextFeature())) { yield return feature; } //this is skipped in unit tests with cursor-mock if (Marshal.IsComObject(featureCursor)) { Marshal. • Title of a specific retro game with color absorption

    - by Rene B
I am looking for the title a free multiplayer (on one machine) DOS game i can't remember Players are steering (with cursors/WASD keys) kind of ufos which looks like donuts from top-down view. These 'ufos' attract colored particles. When your particles collide with particles from other players (in a different color), the colors will mix. If the particles are more your color than the other players color, they will start following you. The only remaining player (with the most color particles) wins the game. Can you please give me the game title? THANK YOU!

  • Is there a mouse trail option?

    - by Tarlung
I have intermittent blindness in my right eye. Windows had a great mouse option that made a trail of cursors behind the one that's functional. It made my mouse easier to see. The control button helps me find my mouse, but I need something to help me track it as it moves. Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance! PS: I prefer bash shell installs, copy paste easier then having to read small download link on websites.
