• Can anyone recommend an iPhone dock with PC pass through? [closed]

  I am looking for a dock for my iPhone that has external speakers, a PC pass through, ability to dock vertical and horizontal and accomodate my iPhone case (Oakley case). The case I use is a problem with most docs but if there was one with an extendable connector it would be fine. I really haven't found any docs that work well with any cases. PC pass through doesn't seem very common at all. I don't want to have a seperate cable for my synching and a dock for my desk. Any recommendations even if they are not released yet? Maybe even alternatives to a dock?

• Making my computer an iPhone music dock?

  Are there any application which lets me play the music in my iPhone through the USB cable? It will be very convenient if I can just dock the phone (while the music is playing), and the music will come out from the computer's speakers instead of the speaker in the iPhone. Edit 1: Stock iPhone dock does have a line-out jack, thanks SidneySM for reminding me. Now the problem is, even though I have select Line In as the Sound Input in Mac OSX, there is no sound coming out from the speaker. How do I make the Speaker output the Line In audio?

I have since then found an IDE drive i wish to access, but cant figure out how to do it, as i would guess i need, one cable converting IDE to SATA and one cable to plug it into a SATA power connection.   I'm thinking of buying a drive dock to put my unused large HDD to use. I will also probably use the dock to backup files and swap the drives regularly. I have a few questions though: Are they noisy? I plan to use them via USB (because I don't think I have eSata connectors), am I gonna want to kill myself every time I backup? (I know it's supposed to be 480 Mbps, but how realistic is this?) Do you recommend a particular model? (I was thinking about this Startech HDD dock) Thank you

• Why Does My Laptop Freeze Up When Docked?

  I have a Dell Latitude D520. First with Windows XP and now with Windows 7, it completely freezes/locks up if I dock it while it's awake. If I hibernate/sleep, dock, then wake/resume, everything's fine. I installed the Dell Notebook System Software for Vista (No Win7 version available) and updated the bios to the latest version but the problem persists. As long as I remember to put this thing in standby before I dock it, it's extremely reliable--it survives my daily commute and heavy use and typically only reboots a few times a month. Any other ideas for things I can try?

  I noticed that my (rooted) modem has some hidden modes for wifi. It has the default(and only setting without rooting) wireless access point, but it also has the settings repeater, ad-hoc, and station. What I'm really curious about is this station mode and how it differs from access point. I did a cursory search and didn't come up with any significant differences, other than that they are two distinct modes on many wireless chipsets. What is this station mode and how does it differ from access point?

• Why am I getting the extra xmlns="" using LinqToXML?

  Hello all, I'm using LinqToXML to generate a piece of XML. Everything works great except I'm throwing in some empty namespace declarations somehow. Does anyone out there know what I'm doing incorrectly?   Hi, Anyone has pointers on how to get real time US gas station feeds via webservice ? I'm trying to develop an iphone app that give users real time gas station price near their location. Currently i was wondering is there a legit government service that produce real time gas station price in the US on a daily basis? I heard about http://gasbuddy.com/ but i don't know where they get the data source from and was not sure if i should base on their data as well. On the other hand, there is a bunch of iphone apps on the apple store that show the gas price info. I'm clueless on how did the developers got their source from to get the nearest gas station price locations. Anyone has any suggestion? Thanks for the info :- )

• Do eSATA HDD docking stations have a capacity limit?

  I'm looking at perhaps buying an eSATA docking station to be able to easily plug in and unplug hard disk drives, particularly but not necessarily only for backup purposes. Note: This is not a hardware shopping recommendation question. Please don't vote to close it as such. Looking at different models, I find for example this page detailing the Deltaco SI-7908SUS which specifically states "storage capacity: 1.5 TB" as well as "pictured hard disk not included, only for illustration". A customer review specifically mentions that it does not work with 3 TB drives, although does not go into any detail such as OS, drive model, etc. From a brief glance, the vendor's web site does not appear to say either way. Then there is the quite similar Deltaco SI-7908B3 which boasts on the box "all 2.5" and 3.5" HDD/SSD compatible". My question is: Why would what basically amounts to a SATA/eSATA adapter have any say in what storage capacity devices are supported? Does it? Assuming the OS supports the full capacity of the drive, why should introducing another (not even a different, really) connector change anything? Bonus question: Might it make a difference if the docking station exposes multiple interfaces (such as in the case of for example the SI-7908SUS exposing USB 2.0 and eSATA)? (I still think it shouldn't, but it'd be nice to have it confirmed.)

• How to dock CPaneDialog to MainFrm and.. ?

  Hello, I have problem with CPaneDialog. I tested with SetPaneSize MFC feature pack sample projects. What is weird is that CPaneDialog can't be docked to MainFrm while CDockablePane can be. The CPaneDialog is also a child class of the CDockablePane, but it can't be. Only DockToWindow( &other_CPaneDialog_instance... ) is possible. If I call DockToPane(), the content of the CPaneDialog is not drawn or refreshed correctly. How can a CPaneDialog be docked to MainFrm window? Another problem is about drawing. If remove codes for tree control in the SetPaneSize sample, the content of the view1 ( an instance of CDockablePane) is not redrawn properly. After doing some experiment, I decided that something should be done in its OnSize and OnPaint method. (OnSize is more critical. ) Is this expected behaviour?

  Greetings, In the QT application we develop we need to display several 'Viewer windows'(to display data in XY plane ,YX plane,XZ plane and in 3D). We were hoping to use MDI application model ,but later client asked for a requirement to drag and view 'Viewer windows' in multiple desktops.(using multiple monitors). This can not be done using MDI window model ,because we cannot move MDI window outside the Main Application Window. Only possible way is to use Dock windows because they can be undocked from Main Application Window and move into other desktops, but Dock windows primary used for tool-palettes or utility windows. • How to dock an application in the Windows desktop?

  I would like to develop a small notifications application for Windows in .NET that docks on the right/left side of the screen (not consuming more than 300px), should always be visible and force the rest of windows to not overlap this application (something like the old Office taskbar or Vista's Sidebar).   Hi there, I have a question regarding CSMA/CD in the IEEE 802.3 LAN standard. I'm trying to understand the behavior of CSMA/CD after a station has captured the channel. Say station A has captured the channel and has an infinite supply of frames it is sending. Also assume that station B has something it wants to send. Now, if I understand correctly, station B senses the line and sees that station A has captured the channel/is transmitting. My question is, does station B see the channel as being captured for the duration of ALL of the frames that station A sends (an infinite period of time), or does station B only consider the channel captured for the first frame it sees A send, after which B goes ahead and transmits its own frame (which will collide with one of the remaining frames still coming from A)?

• LinqToXML why does my object go out of scope? Also should I be doing a group by?

  Hello All, I have an IEnumerable<someClass>. I need to transform it into XML. There is a property called 'ZoneId'. I need to write some XML based on this property, then I need some decendent elements that provide data relevant to the ZoneId. I know I need some type of grouping. Here's what I have attempted thus far without much success. **inventory is an IEnumerable<someClass>. So I query inventory for unique zones. This works ok. var zones = inventory.Select(c => new { ZoneID = c.ZoneId , ZoneName = c.ZoneName , Direction = c.Direction }).Distinct(); No I want to create xml based on zones and place. ***place is a property of 'someClass'. var xml = new XElement("MSG_StationInventoryList" , new XElement("StationInventory" , zones.Select(station => new XElement("station-id", station.ZoneID) , new XElement("station-name", station.ZoneName)))); This does not compile as "station" is out of scope when I try to add the "station-name" element. However is I remove the paren after 'ZoneId', station is in scope and I retreive the station-name. Only problem is the element is then a decendant of 'station-id'. This is not the desired output. They should be siblings. What am I doing wrong? Lastly after the "station-name" element, I will need another complex type which is a collection. Call it "places'. It will have child elements called "place". its data will come from the IEnumerable and I will only want "places" that have the "ZoneId" for the current zone. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Is it a mistake select distinct zones from the original IEnumerable? This object has all the data I need within it. I just need to make it heirarchical.   I am in the process of creating an internet radio station, but the two djs I have for it are not able to be in one place. I need for them to be able to login to a web based broadcasting session that still has full functionality. They need to be able to broadcast thier live shows with talk and music. The music will be stroed on the server. I have checked out the Broadwave media streaming server from NCH, but ti does not have the ability to login as a dj from a remote computer. I don't have any money for this, so I need it to be free. If this is not possible, I need it to be cheap!

• Does a Samsung G3 Station external hard drive stop working when power supply is too high?

  I have a Samsung G3 Station 2TB external hard drive (link to PDF specs here). It was working perfectly when I accidentally plugged it in my notebook's power source. The notebook's power source is 19V/3.42A. The hard drive's is 12V/2A and I know that, inside its case, there is regular 2TB SATA drive, along with some sort of adapter. Does this adapter has some kind of power protection? I opened the case and the hard drive board smells bad. Does my data is forever lost or can I replace its board?

• All network devices freezing when Airport Extreme Base Station is connected. Any ideas?

  I've been troubleshooting this issue for a while, and through a series of events have it narrowed down to my airport extreme base station. I like this router, since I'm able to connect to IPV6 sites without any insane configuration (my alternate router is too old and doesn't support v6). My question is: Has anyone else had this issue, if so how is it resolved? If not, can you recommend a good IPv6 router? Here is how I came to the conclusion that it is the router: Devices: XBOX 360, HTC Incredible, Home-Built machine running FreeBSD, Home-Built machine running Ubuntu 10.04. 1.) Noticed freezing on Ubuntu Box. 2.) Noticed freezing on XBOX360 3.) Noticed freezing on HTC Incredible (only when connected to my network wirelessly). The above all happened at random times throughout the past few weeks. Over the last few days, I was playing XBOX and noticed that the XBOX and Ubuntu machines both froze. I picked up my phone, and it was also frozen. I reset all devices, power-cycled my router, and all was fine again. About two hours later, it happened again (I was playing Forza III, the XBOX froze; I went to the Ubuntu box and it was frozen; unfortunately, the HTC phone was not connected wirelessly, and the FreeBSD box was turned off). I can't even begin to imaging what a router could be doing to freeze devices with such differing hardware/software/OS, and I feel absurd for coming to this conclusion, but I have nothing else. I hooked up my archaic Netgear router, and have had no problems since. :(

• Is there an application that can automatically set Graphics Properties when docking?

  I have a dual display setup with my laptop (Dell, with integrated graphics, WinXP). The problem is that whenever I hook up the laptop to the monitor I have to go to Graphics Properties (Intel Graphics Media Driver for Mobile) and set the display resolution, window position, etc. Note that this screen is different than the built-in one you usually see in WinXP. 1) Is there an app that can save display settings properly so they will come back when I dock again? 2) Barring this, run a script or a macro to automatically set up the display the way I want it. 3) Or, can I write a .Net program that does this for me? Extra points if there is an Open source app that can do this.

• Can you resize all mac windows at once? (e.g. when docking)

  I've recently bought a Henge Dock, and like the ability to plug my MacBook in and instantly reconnect to all my peripherals (external monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc.). The only problem is that when I dock or undock, all of my windows are left at the wrong size (either too big or too small) and I have to manually resize them, one by one. Not the end of the world, but ... isn't there an easier way? I've seen Cinch and Sizeup, but they seem to only work on one window (the current app). I looked at the Automator as a possible way to do this, but it didn't seem to have any window operations. I also tried the AppleScript listed here, but it put the windows in wacky places.

• Use Mac Pro as time machine, server and editing station?

  Background: My fiancée needs a Mac Pro for movie editing and rendering. I need a web server and a backup solution for my MacBook Pro. Idea We thought we could split the costs of the Mac Pro and set it up to act as both a web server and a backup device. Question Is this a good idea? Specifically: Is it easy to set it up to incrementally backup one or several laptops over wifi? And what software would you recommend? Is it silent and stable enough to run a web server continuously? Will it manage all this, including simultaneous editing? Thanks.
