  • How can I find all the supported weights of a Font in Java?

    How can I find all the available font weights for a given font in Java? The TextAttribute for font weight lists 11 different weight constants, way more than just Font.PLAIN and Font.BOLD. I'd like to know which ones actually exist for a given font family, so I can make sure I'm only using weights for which a font face exists. The getAttributes() and getAvailableAttributes() methods in Font will only show me whether or not the Font supports the FONT_WEIGHT attribute, not which weight values it supports. If I just pass in a particular value to see what I get back, I don't have any guarantee that I'll get what I asked for. The TextAttribute class says "The values for WEIGHT, WIDTH, and POSTURE are interpolated by the system, which can select the 'nearest available' font or use other techniques to approximate the user's request."

  • Gvim displays wrong font when set from _gvimrc, but correct font when set from menus

    This question applies to gVim running on Windows. I have the following line in my _gvimrc set guifont=Lucida_Sans_Typewriter:h11:cANSI When gVim starts up, it strange italicizes everything! A call to :set guifont shows that things seem to have been set correctly, as it returns guifont=Lucida_Sans_Typewriter:h11:cANSI Then I manually select Edit-Select Font ... and then choose Lucida Sans Typewriter, and font size 11 and submit, the italics disappear and it looks fine. I've posted my _gvimrc for reference at http://vim.pastey.net/132157 So my questions are: Why am I getting different results from setting it manually and from _gvimrc? Is there a way to capture the command that the dialog box is sending back to the program? It might include extra commands that I'm missing.

  • IE font size decrease does not cause select box height to decrease

    I have a font resize function on my page which increases the font size via javascript for the entire page. This works fine in most browsers except IE. When decreasing the font size after increasing it, the select boxes new height does not decrease, even though the font size is decreasing on it. Instead the smaller font appears to be padded with white space. Any ideas as to what IE is doing here, and a work around?

  • Font Book does not Install all Fonts

    My Mac decided to delete all but 19 fonts, which is fairly annoying. It didn't really delete them, as in I still have the original files in the /Library/Fonts folder, but they've disappeared from Font Book, so I can't use them. Now, Apple says that you can select a folder to install all fonts in that folder, but when I try that, the spinning wheel (not the beach ball) comes up in the lower right hand corner for a few seconds and then leaves, without installing any fonts. The same thing happens if I use the + sign in the menu bar, select multiple, or if I try validating and then installing (actually, that installs one font). Is there any way to mass-install these fonts or will I have to install them one by one? Comp info: Mac OS X 10.5.8 running Font Book 2.1 (123).

    Right now I'm trying desperately to get @font-face to work in my website. This is the code I am using right now. @font-face { font-family: romeral; src: url(fonts/romeral.otf ) format("opentype"); } And then.... h1 { font-size:2.5em; font-family:romeral; } I am using the font Romeral. Here's a link to it: http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2007/02/06/freefont-of-the-week-romeral/ For some reason it just won't work. It won't render the font on the page. I've tried using other fonts like Ripe, and they work. I've made sure I don't have any spelling errors. What I'm wondering is if there is a restriction that some fonts use to stop people from using their fonts with @font-face. Or maybe I've made an obvious mistake in my code. Thanks in advance.

    I've had this problem in a lot of different webs. You have a font which has different anti-aliasing options, the designer uses the same font with different anti-aliasing options on different parts of the text on the web. So there is a difference between some elements. In this case I have sharp, crisp, strong and smooth. I've used a font generator to get the code to access it via @font-face. Even so, I also have the original .otf if important to know. Is there a method to access this?     I am trying to set the font-weight for an element based on the font that gets chosen. For example, I may be trying to do something like this: h1 { font-family: Arial Narrow, Impact, sans-serif; font-weight: ?; } Let's say I want the font-weight to be "bold" if the user has Arial Narrow installed on their system, but "normal" if the browser has to use Impact, and maybe "bold" if the user's system has neither of those fonts. Is this possible? If so, how would I go about doing this?

I want to use "Microsoft YaHei", I copy this file from my Win7 system. And I tried remove the "WenQuanYi Zen Hei" by "sudo aptitude remove ttf-wqy",it show me it is successfully removed.     I've gone through the Discover Meteor book and successfully created Microscope. Now I'm trying to build my own app based on what I've learned. I want to use @font-face for fonts and icon fonts. I can't get them to show up. Here's my directory structure: client/stylesheets I've got my fonts in the stylesheets folder. I'm using scss, by the way, and that's working fine with the scss package. Here's how I'm calling the fonts in the stylesheet: @font-face { font-family: 'AmaranthItalic'; src: url('Amaranth-Italic-webfont.eot'); src: url('Amaranth-Italic-webfont.eot?#iefix') format('embedded-opentype'), url('Amaranth-Italic-webfont.woff') format('woff'), url('Amaranth-Italic-webfont.ttf') format('truetype'), url('Amaranth-Italic-webfont.svg#AmaranthItalic') format('svg'); font-weight: normal; font-style: normal; } I've tried '/stylesheets/Amaranth etc. and all other combinations that I can think of and nothing is working. I've tried putting them in public. Nothing. I know files like this are supposed to go in public folder but that seems to kill the stylesheets entirely. I'm not sure why the Microscope directory design would cause that to happen. These question/answers didn't help: using font-face in meteor?   • Canvas - @font-face doesn't work on IE9+

    I've created a widget which allows the user to locate free-text over an image using a textarea. When saving the image a background canvas application reads the text and calculates its position, then it draws the text to the canvas over the image and saves a new image file. The font I use for this widget is league-gothic which I am importing using the @font-face method. This seems to work great and without any issues on all browsers except (of-course) for IE9 and IE10. When using internet explorer you can clearly see that the font was indeed loaded since the textarea uses the same font, but when trying to draw the text onto the canvas the font-family reverts to one of its fallback, in this case Arial. I've searched quite a bit and found nothing. Unlike most font issues I found that concern the canvas element, I am completely sure that the font has indeed loaded as I am viewing it before saving the result. Anything at all will help me at the moment. If you have any insight, experience with similar bugs or whatever, please share :) Thanks in advance. P.S. I can't expose a code example at the moment, but if it becomes a problem I'll do my best to provide one.

  • Get computed font size for DOM element in JS

    Is it possible to detect the computed font-size of a DOM element, taking into consideration generic settings made elsewhere (In the body tag for example), inherited values, and so on? A framework-independent approach would be nice, as I'm working on a script that should work standalone, but that is not a requirement of course. Background: I'm trying to tweak CKEditor's font selector plugin (source here) so that it always shows the font size of the current cursor position (as opposed to only when within a span that has an explicit font-size set, which is the current behaviour).
