  • How to detect hidden field tampering?

    On a form of my web app, I've got a hidden field that I need to protect from tampering for security reasons. I'm trying to come up with a solution whereby I can detect if the value of the hidden field has been changed, and react appropriately (i.e. with a generic "Something went wrong, please try again" error message). The solution should be secure enough that brute force attacks are infeasible. I've got a basic solution that I think will work, but I'm not security expert and I may be totally missing something here. My idea is to render two hidden inputs: one named "important_value", containing the value I need to protect, and one named "important_value_hash" containing the SHA hash of the important value concatenated with a constant long random string (i.e. the same string will be used every time). When the form is submitted, the server will re-compute the SHA hash, and compare against the submitted value of important_value_hash. If they are not the same, the important_value has been tampered with. I could also concatenate additional values with the SHA's input string (maybe the user's IP address?), but I don't know if that really gains me anything. Will this be secure? Anyone have any insight into how it might be broken, and what could/should be done to improve it? Thanks!

  • Animated background image in a hidden <div> doesn't load or loads not animated

    Hello, I have spent the whole day trying to make a script which on "submit" hides the form and shows hidden with animated progress bar. The problem is that Internet Explorer doesn't show animated gif images in hidden divs. The images are static. I visited many websites and found a script which uses: document.getElementById(id).style.backgroundImage = 'url(/images/load.gif)'; Finally, my script works in Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera but... Google Chrome doesn't display the image at all. I see only div text. After many tests I discovered the following: the only way to see the background image in Google Chrome is to include the same image somewhere in the page (outside of hidden div) with 1px dimensions: <img src="/images/load.gif" width="1" heigh="1" /> This did the trick but... after this dirty solution Microsoft Explorer for some reason shows the image as static again. So, my question is: is there any way how to force Gogle Chrome to show the image? Thanks. The problem is this ModelForm is that each field defined in the model will be displayed on the template. I would like to remove them from the form if they are not needed: exemple : if the user has no right on the model Company, it won't be used it in the rendered form in the template. The problem of that is you have to put the list of fields in the Meta class of the form with fields or exclude attribute, but i don't know how to manage them dynamically. Any Idea??   • What are the alternatives to public fields?

    I am programming a game in java, and as the question title suggestions i am using public fields in my classes. (for the time being) From what i have seen public fields are bad and i have some understanding why. (but if someone could clarify why you should not use them, that would be appreciated) The thing is that also from what i have seen, (and it seems logical) is that using private fields, but using getters and setters to access them is also not good as it defeats the point of using private fields in the first place. So, my question is, what are the alternatives? or do i really have to use private fields with getters and setters? For reference here is one of my classes, and some of its methods. Windows form gives me opportunity to stop the console application at any time. But I'd like to handle somehow the close message inside the console application.     What happens to the controls or the iframe or the div, which are hidden? Do they get transferred to the user side? Disabled: does it get transferred to the user side? What I want is, an aspx page will be having many iframes to display different pages. There will be many div tags to display CSS formatted information. To understand what I mean by many:- I have to transfer a complete website with 30 aspx pages into one single page! I have simply combined everything resulting in one extremely huge page. My concern is that on local host it loads fast, but when on online server accessed by numerous people for education purposes, the site (ONE PAGE) WILL SLOW DOWN terribly. To overcome this I thought of using hidden and disable options. What is an improved way of achieving the above? Yes, it sounds silly but this is the requirement. Edit: Yes, I know id and server tag must be set, but what I am asking will the div tag be sent to the user's browser? One answer is no. So can I enable them using JavaScript? Like document.getElementById(id).style.visibility="visible" What if I disable them, and from coding of JavaScript enable them? Will they be loaded at the time of enabling?

  • Help matching fields between two classes

    I'm not too experienced with Java yet, and I'm hoping someone can steer me in the right direction because right now I feel like I'm just beating my head against a wall... The first class is called MeasuredParams, and it's got 40+ numeric fields (height, weight, waistSize, wristSize - some int, but mostly double). The second class is a statistical classifier called Classifier. It's been trained on a subset of the MeasuredParams fields. The names of the fields that the Classifier has been trained on is stored, in order, in an array called reqdFields. What I need to do is load a new array, toClassify, with the values stored in the fields from MeasuredParams that match the field list (including order) found in reqdFields. I can make any changes necessary to the MeasuredParams class, but I'm stuck with Classifier as it is. My brute-force approach was to get rid of the fields in MeasuredParams and use an arrayList instead, and store the field names in an Enum object to act as an index pointer. Then loop through the reqdFields list, one element at a time, and find the matching name in the Enum object to find the correct position in the arrayList. Load the value stored at that positon into toClassify, and then continue on to the next element in reqdFields. I'm not sure how exactly I would search through the Enum object - it would be a lot easier if the field names were stored in a second arrayList. But then the index positions between the two would have to stay matched, and I'm back to using an Enum. I think. I've been running around in circles all afternoon, and I keep thinking there must be an easier way of doing it. I'm just stuck right now and can't see past what I've started. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks so much! Michael

I was looking at Javassist, and there you can create a new class, and add fields to it, but I haven't found a way to annotate those fields.

    Hello all, Here's a dumb question which I can't find an answer to: I have a table which contains 20 fields, a few of which are date/time. I am interested in pulling all the fields. I would like to pull the datetime fields using the to_char function but don't want to individually list out all the other fields. Is there an easy way to do this? I tried select *, tochar(dtfield) as dt2 and select tochar(dtfield) as dt2, * and both give errors. Thanks for all your help! JC

  • Repeating fields in similar database tables

    I have been tasked with working on a database that I have never seen before and I'm looking at the DB structure. Some of the central and most heavily queried and joined tables look like virtual duplicates of each other. Here's a massively simplified representation of the situation, with business-sensitive information changed, listing hypothetical table names and fields: TopLevelGroup: PK_TLGroupId, DisplaysXOnBill, DisplaysYOnBill, IsInvoicedForJ, IsInvoicedForK SubGroup: PK_SubGroupId, FK_ParentTopLevelGroupId, DisplaysXOnBill, DisplaysYOnBill, IsInvoicedForJ, IsInvoicedForK SubSubGroup: PK_SubSUbGroupId, FK_ParentSubGroupId, DisplaysXOnBill, DisplaysYOnBill, IsInvoicedForJ, IsInvoicedForK I haven't listed the types of the fields as I don't think it's particularly important to the situation. In addition, it's worth saying that rather than four repeated fields as in the example above, I'm looking at 86 repeated fields. For the most part, those fields genuinely do represent "facts" about the primary table entity, so it's not automatically wrong for that reason. In addition, the "groups" represented here have a property inheritance relationship. If DisplaysXOnBill is NULL in the SubSubGroup, it takes the value of DisplaysXOnBillfrom it's parent, the SubGroup, and so-on up to the TopLevelGroup. Further, the requirements will never require that the model extends beyond three levels, so there is no need for flexibility in that area. Is there a design smell from several tables which describe very similar entities having almost identical fields? If so, what might be a better design of the example above? I'm using the phrase "design smell" to indicate a possible problem. Of course, in any given situation, a particular design might well be the best solution. I'm looking for a more general answer - wondering what might be wrong with this design and what might be the better design were that the case. Possibly related, but not primary questions: Is this database schema in a reasonably normal form (e.g. to 3NF), insofar as can be told from the information I've provided. I can't see a problem with the requirements of 2NF and 3NF, except in their inheriting the requirements of 1NF. Is 1NF satisfied though? Are repeating groups allowed in different tables? Is there a best-practice method for implementing the inheritance relationship in a database as I require? The method above feels clunky to me because any query on the SubSubGroup necessarily needs to join onto the SubGroup and the TopLevelGroup tables to collect inherited facts, which can make even trivial joins requiring facts from the SubSubGroup table rather long-winded. There are, of course, political considerations to making a relatively large change like this. For the purpose of this question, I'm happy to ignore that fact in the interests of keeping the answers ring-fenced to the technical problem.

    Hey all, I have multilanguage site, which have 3 languages. I'm using Username as field for First and Last name combined, and some Profile(core module) fields for example biography text field. So I want to translate Username and Profile fields in each language. I have tested it with i18n, it is not working with username and profile text field. So if Username problem I can use profile text fields for First and Last name. But no one module is providing localization support for Profile fields. Any suggestions? Thank you

    i'm processing a form that has a lot of fields for a user who is editing an existing record. the user may have only changed one field, and i would typically do an update query that sets the values of all the fields, even though most of them don't change. i could do some sort of tracking to see which fields have actually changed, and only update the few that did. is there a performance difference between updating all fields in a record vs only the one that changed? are there other reasons to go with either method? the shotgun method is pretty easy...

  • QT QFileDialog how to hide hidden/backup folders (".folder")

    Basically when browsing folders inside a QFileDialog I find very annoying to have everything bloated with hidden or backup folders (don't know how to call them really); specially on home. Is there a way to prevent these type of folders from showing by default on a QFileDialog? I'm using Qt4.6 and getOpenFileName. P.D.: I'm starting to think this might be an ubuntu thing...?
