  • rails gem permissions problem (tabs on rails)

    - by aguynamedloren
    I'm having trouble running a gem, tabs on rails -v=1.3.2, in my rails 2.3.8 app. The gem is installed locally (Ubuntu 10.10) and I have config.gem "tabs_on_rails", :version="1.3.2" in environment.rb. This is the output I get when I run script/server: loren@ubuntu:~/apps/medmentum$ script/server => Booting WEBrick => Rails 2.3.8 application starting on http://0.0.0.0:3000 no such file to load -- tabs_on_rails /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:36:in `gem_original_require' /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:36:in `require' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.3.8/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:156:in `require' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.3.8/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:521:in `new_constants_in' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.3.8/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:156:in `require' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/rails/gem_dependency.rb:215:in `load' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/initializer.rb:307:in `load_gems' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/initializer.rb:307:in `each' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/initializer.rb:307:in `load_gems' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/initializer.rb:164:in `process' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/initializer.rb:113:in `send' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/initializer.rb:113:in `run' /home/loren/apps/medmentum/config/environment.rb:11 /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `gem_original_require' /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `require' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.3.8/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:156:in `require' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.3.8/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:521:in `new_constants_in' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.3.8/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:156:in `require' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/commands/server.rb:84 /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `gem_original_require' /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `require' script/server:3 /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/rails/plugin.rb:158:in `read': Permission denied - /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/tabs_on_rails-1.3.2/rails/init.rb (Errno::EACCES) from /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/rails/plugin.rb:158:in `evaluate_init_rb' from /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.3.8/lib/active_support/core_ext/kernel/reporting.rb:11:in `silence_warnings' from /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/rails/plugin.rb:154:in `evaluate_init_rb' from /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/rails/plugin.rb:48:in `load' from /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/rails/plugin/loader.rb:38:in `load_plugins' from /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/rails/plugin/loader.rb:37:in `each' from /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/rails/plugin/loader.rb:37:in `load_plugins' from /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/initializer.rb:369:in `load_plugins' from /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/initializer.rb:165:in `process' from /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/initializer.rb:113:in `send' from /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/initializer.rb:113:in `run' from /home/loren/apps/medmentum/config/environment.rb:11 from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `gem_original_require' from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `require' from /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.3.8/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:156:in `require' from /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.3.8/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:521:in `new_constants_in' from /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.3.8/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:156:in `require' from /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.8/lib/commands/server.rb:84 from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `gem_original_require' from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `require' from script/server:3 When I run rake gems:install, I get this: Permission denied - /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/tabs_on_rails-1.3.2/rails/init.rb I navigated to the tabs_on_rails gem folder in the filesystem and all of the files are locked.   • Enum exeeding the 65535 bytes limit of static initializer... what's best to do?

    - by Daniel Bleisteiner
    I've started a rather large Enum of so called Descriptors that I've wanted to use as a reference list in my model. But now I've come across a compiler/VM limit the first time and so I'm looking for the best solution to handle this. Here is my error : The code for the static initializer is exceeding the 65535 bytes limit It is clear where this comes from - my Enum simply has far to much elements. But I need those elements - there is no way to reduce that set. Initialy I've planed to use a single Enum because I want to make sure that all elements within the Enum are unique. It is used in a Hibernate persistence context where the reference to the Enum is stored as String value in the database. So this must be unique! The content of my Enum can be devided into several groups of elements belonging together. But splitting the Enum would remove the unique safety I get during compile time. Or can this be achieved with multiple Enums in some way? My only current idea is to define some Interface called Descriptor and code several Enums implementing it. This way I hope to be able to use the Hibernate Enum mapping as if it were a single Enum. But I'm not even sure if this will work. And I loose unique safety. Any ideas how to handle that case?

  • Gitorious errors

    - by Switz
    I installed Gitorious on my (shared) hosting. I was getting errors, but I seemed to have fixed most of them. It is working. When I commit/push, I get a lot of remote: errors spewed out although it does push the files properly from what I can tell. Here are the errors I'm getting (I swapped out the domain to git.domain.com): $ git push origin master Counting objects: 5, done. Delta compression using up to 2 threads. • No audio with headphones, but audio works with integrated speakers

    - by Pedro
    My speakers work correctly, but when I plug in my headphones, they don't work. I am running Ubuntu 10.04. My audio card is Realtek ALC259 My laptop model is a HP G62t a10em In another thread someone fixed a similar issue (headphones work, speakers not) folowing this: sudo vi /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf (or some other editor instead of Vi) Append the following at the end of the file: alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel options snd-hda-intel model=auto Reboot but it doesnt work for me. Before making and changes to alsa, this was the output: alsamixer gives me this: Things I did: followed this HowTo but now no hardware seems to be present (before, there were 2 items listed): Now, alsamixer gives me this: alsamixer: relocation error: alsamixer: symbol snd_mixer_get_hctl, version ALSA_0.9 not defined in file libasound.so.2 with link time reference I guess there was and error in the alsa-driver install so I began reinstalling it. cd alsa-driver* //this works fine// sudo ./configure --with-cards=hda-intel --with-kernel=/usr/src/linux-headers-$(uname -r) //this works fine// sudo make //this doesn't work. see ouput error below// sudo make install Final lines of sudo make: hpetimer.c: In function ‘snd_hpet_open’: hpetimer.c:41: warning: implicit declaration of function ‘hpet_register’ hpetimer.c:44: warning: implicit declaration of function ‘hpet_control’ hpetimer.c:44: error: expected expression before ‘unsigned’ hpetimer.c: In function ‘snd_hpet_close’: hpetimer.c:51: warning: implicit declaration of function ‘hpet_unregister’ hpetimer.c:52: error: invalid use of undefined type ‘struct hpet_task’ hpetimer.c: In function ‘hpetimer_init’: hpetimer.c:88: error: ‘EINVAL’ undeclared (first use in this function) hpetimer.c:99: error: invalid use of undefined type ‘struct hpet_task’ hpetimer.c:100: error: invalid use of undefined type ‘struct hpet_task’ hpetimer.c: At top level: hpetimer.c:121: warning: excess elements in struct initializer hpetimer.c:121: warning: (near initialization for ‘__param_frequency’) hpetimer.c:121: warning: excess elements in struct initializer hpetimer.c:121: warning: (near initialization for ‘__param_frequency’) hpetimer.c:121: warning: excess elements in struct initializer hpetimer.c:121: warning: (near initialization for ‘__param_frequency’) hpetimer.c:121: warning: excess elements in struct initializer hpetimer.c:121: warning: (near initialization for ‘__param_frequency’) hpetimer.c:121: error: extra brace group at end of initializer hpetimer.c:121: error: (near initialization for ‘__param_frequency’) hpetimer.c:121: warning: excess elements in struct initializer hpetimer.c:121: warning: (near initialization for ‘__param_frequency’) make[1]: *** [hpetimer.o] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/alsa/alsa-driver-1.0.9/acore' make: *** [compile] Error 1 And then sudo make install gives me: rm -f /lib/modules/0.0.0/misc/snd*.*o /lib/modules/0.0.0/misc/persist.o /lib/modules/0.0.0/misc/isapnp.o make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/alsa/alsa-driver-1.0.9/acore' mkdir -p /lib/modules/0.0.0/misc cp snd-hpet.o snd-page-alloc.o snd-pcm.o snd-timer.o snd.o /lib/modules/0.0.0/misc cp: cannot stat `snd-hpet.o': No such file or directory cp: cannot stat `snd-page-alloc.o': No such file or directory cp: cannot stat `snd-pcm.o': No such file or directory cp: cannot stat `snd-timer.o': No such file or directory cp: cannot stat `snd.o': No such file or directory make[1]: *** [_modinst__] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/alsa/alsa-driver-1.0.9/acore' make: *** [install-modules] Error 1 [SOLUTION] After screwing it all up, someone mentioned why not trying using the packages in Synaptic - so I did. I have no idea which is the package that made my audio work, but it certainly was one of them. [/SOLUTION]

  • ruby on rails: undefined method "version_requirements' when attempting to start server after new install

  • Why would this line throw exception for type initializer failed?

    - by Jaggu
    I had a class: public class Constant { public static string ConnString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["ConnString"].ConnectionString; } which would throw exception on LIVE: Type initialize failed for Constant ctor If I change the class to: public class Constant { public static string ConnString { get { return ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["ConnString"].ConnectionString; } } } it works. I wasted 2 hours behind this but I still don't know why would this happen. Any ideas? Note: The 1st class used to work on DEV environment but not on LIVE. The 2nd class works on DEV and also on Production. I am using VS2010 on production and Asp.Net 4.0 Website project. I am totally amazed by this inconsistency to say the least! Edit: This class was in App_Code folder.

  • Is it undefined behavior in the case of the private functions call in the initializer list?

    - by Alexey Malistov

Can I get UB?

  • Can a member struct be zero-init from the constructor initializer list without calling memset?

    - by selbie
    Let's say I have the following structure declaration (simple struct with no constructor). struct Foo { int x; int y; int z; char szData[DATA_SIZE]; }; Now let's say this struct is a member of a C++ class as follows: class CFoobar { Foo _foo; public: CFoobar(); }; If I declare CFoobar's constructor as follows: CFoobar::CFoobar() { printf("_foo = {%d, %d, %d}\n", _foo.x, _foo.y,_foo.z); for (int x = 0; x < 100; x++) printf("%d\n", _foo.szData[x]); } As you would expect, when CFoobar's constructor runs, garbage data gets printed out Obviously, the easy fix is to memset or ZeroMemory &_foo. It's what I've always done... However, I did notice that if add _foo to the constructor's initialization list with no parameters as follows: CFoobar::CFoobar() : _foo() { That this appears to zero-out the member variables of _foo. At least that was the case with g++ on linux. Now here's my question: Is this standard C++, or is this compiler specific behavior? If it's standard behavior, can someone quote me a reference from an official source? Any "gotchas" in regards to implicit zero-init behavior with more complicated structs and classes?

  • Configure Cucumber with SentientUser

    - by Corith Malin
    I have an application using the SentientUser gem to provide the current user to my models. On top of that I'm using default scoping to ensure that a user can only ever access data that they own. So a typical model for me looks something like this: class Location < ActiveRecord::Base validates_presence_of :name, :time_zone, :address belongs_to :account belongs_to :address accepts_nested_attributes_for :address default_scope :conditions => { :account_id => User.current.account } end When I run rake cucumber I get an error on the default_scope line about account being nil. My guess is that when the cucumber rake task is run it doesn't have access to the correct application controller to inject the current_user method and thus SentientUser can't get the current user? The error I get is: rake cucumber (in /Users/corithmalin/Documents/Code/Ruby/flavorpulse) /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/bin/ruby -I "/Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8/gems/cucumber-0.6.3/lib:lib" "/Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8/gems/cucumber-0.6.3/bin/cucumber" --profile default Using the default profile... undefined method `account' for nil:NilClass (NoMethodError) /Users/corithmalin/Documents/Code/Ruby/flavorpulse/vendor/rails/activesupport/lib/active_support/whiny_nil.rb:52:in `method_missing' /Users/corithmalin/Documents/Code/Ruby/flavorpulse/app/models/location.rb:9 /Library/Ruby/Site/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `gem_original_require' /Library/Ruby/Site/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `polyglot_original_require' /Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8/gems/polyglot-0.3.0/lib/polyglot.rb:65:in `require' /Users/corithmalin/Documents/Code/Ruby/flavorpulse/vendor/rails/activesupport/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:158:in `require' /Users/corithmalin/Documents/Code/Ruby/flavorpulse/vendor/rails/activesupport/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:265:in `require_or_load' /Users/corithmalin/Documents/Code/Ruby/flavorpulse/vendor/rails/activesupport/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:224:in `depend_on' /Users/corithmalin/Documents/Code/Ruby/flavorpulse/vendor/rails/activesupport/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:136:in `require_dependency' /Users/corithmalin/Documents/Code/Ruby/flavorpulse/config/../vendor/rails/railties/lib/initializer.rb:414:in `load_application_classes' /Users/corithmalin/Documents/Code/Ruby/flavorpulse/config/../vendor/rails/railties/lib/initializer.rb:413:in `each' /Users/corithmalin/Documents/Code/Ruby/flavorpulse/config/../vendor/rails/railties/lib/initializer.rb:413:in `load_application_classes' /Users/corithmalin/Documents/Code/Ruby/flavorpulse/config/../vendor/rails/railties/lib/initializer.rb:411:in `each' /Users/corithmalin/Documents/Code/Ruby/flavorpulse/config/../vendor/rails/railties/lib/initializer.rb:411:in `load_application_classes' /Users/corithmalin/Documents/Code/Ruby/flavorpulse/config/../vendor/rails/railties/lib/initializer.rb:197:in `process' /Users/corithmalin/Documents/Code/Ruby/flavorpulse/config/../vendor/rails/railties/lib/initializer.rb:113:in `send' /Users/corithmalin/Documents/Code/Ruby/flavorpulse/config/../vendor/rails/railties/lib/initializer.rb:113:in `run' /Users/corithmalin/Documents/Code/Ruby/flavorpulse/config/environment.rb:9 /Library/Ruby/Site/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `gem_original_require' /Library/Ruby/Site/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `polyglot_original_require' /Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8/gems/polyglot-0.3.0/lib/polyglot.rb:65:in `require' /Users/corithmalin/Documents/Code/Ruby/flavorpulse/features/support/env.rb:8 /Library/Ruby/Site/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `gem_original_require' /Library/Ruby/Site/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `polyglot_original_require' /Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8/gems/polyglot-0.3.0/lib/polyglot.rb:65:in `require' /Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8/gems/cucumber-0.6.3/bin/../lib/cucumber/rb_support/rb_language.rb:124:in `load_code_file' /Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8/gems/cucumber-0.6.3/bin/../lib/cucumber/step_mother.rb:85:in `load_code_file' /Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8/gems/cucumber-0.6.3/bin/../lib/cucumber/step_mother.rb:77:in `load_code_files' /Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8/gems/cucumber-0.6.3/bin/../lib/cucumber/step_mother.rb:76:in `each' /Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8/gems/cucumber-0.6.3/bin/../lib/cucumber/step_mother.rb:76:in `load_code_files' /Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8/gems/cucumber-0.6.3/bin/../lib/cucumber/cli/main.rb:48:in `execute!' /Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8/gems/cucumber-0.6.3/bin/../lib/cucumber/cli/main.rb:20:in `execute' /Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8/gems/cucumber-0.6.3/bin/cucumber:8 rake aborted!   • readonly keyword

    - by nmarun
    This is something new that I learned about the readonly keyword. Have a look at the following class: 1: public class MyClass 2: { 3: public string Name { get; set; } 4: public int Age { get; set; } 5:  6: private readonly double Delta; 7:  8: public MyClass() 9: { 10: Initializer(); 11: } 12:  13: public MyClass(string name = "", int age = 0) 14: { 15: Name = name; 16: Age = age; 17: Initializer(); 18: } 19:  20: private void Initializer() 21: { 22: Delta = 0.2; 23: } 24: } I have a couple of public properties and a private readonly member. There are two constructors – one that doesn’t take any parameters and the other takes two parameters to initialize the public properties. I’m also calling the Initializer method in both constructors to initialize the readonly member. Now when I build this, the code breaks and the Error window says: “A readonly field cannot be assigned to (except in a constructor or a variable initializer)” Two things after I read this message: It’s such a negative statement. I’d prefer something like: “A readonly field can be assigned to (or initialized) only in a constructor or through a variable initializer” But in my defense, I AM assigning it in a constructor (only indirectly). All I’m doing is creating a method that does it and calling it in a constructor. Turns out, .net was not ‘frameworked’ this way. We need to have the member initialized directly in the constructor. If you have multiple constructors, you can just use the ‘this’ keyword on all except the default constructors to call the default constructor. This default constructor can then initialize your readonly members. This will ensure you’re not repeating the code in multiple places. A snippet of what I’m talking can be seen below: 1: public class Person 2: { 3: public int UniqueNumber { get; set; } 4: public string Name { get; set; } 5: public int Age { get; set; } 6: public DateTime DateOfBirth { get; set; } 7: public string InvoiceNumber { get; set; } 8:  9: private readonly string Alpha; 10: private readonly int Beta; 11: private readonly double Delta; 12: private readonly double Gamma; 13:  14: public Person() 15: { 16: Alpha = "FDSA"; 17: Beta = 2; 18: Delta = 3.0; 19: Gamma = 0.0989; 20: } 21:  22: public Person(int uniqueNumber) : this() 23: { 24: UniqueNumber = uniqueNumber; 25: } 26: } See the syntax in line 22 and you’ll know what I’m talking about. So the default constructor gets called before the one in line 22. These are known as constructor initializers and they allow one constructor to call another. The other ‘myth’ I had about readonly members is that you can set it’s value only once. This was busted as well (I recall Adam and Jamie’s show). Say you’ve initialized the readonly member through a variable initializer. You can over-write this value in any of the constructors any number of times. 1: public class Person 2: { 3: public int UniqueNumber { get; set; } 4: public string Name { get; set; } 5: public int Age { get; set; } 6: public DateTime DateOfBirth { get; set; } 7: public string InvoiceNumber { get; set; } 8:  9: private readonly string Alpha = "asdf"; 10: private readonly int Beta = 15; 11: private readonly double Delta = 0.077; 12: private readonly double Gamma = 1.0; 13:  14: public Person() 15: { 16: Alpha = "FDSA"; 17: Beta = 2; 18: Delta = 3.0; 19: Gamma = 0.0989; 20: } 21:  22: public Person(int uniqueNumber) : this() 23: { 24: UniqueNumber = uniqueNumber; 25: Beta = 3; 26: } 27:  28: public Person(string name, DateTime dob) : this() 29: { 30: Name = name; 31: DateOfBirth = dob; 32:  33: Alpha = ";LKJ"; 34: Gamma = 0.0898; 35: } 36:  37: public Person(int uniqueNumber, string name, int age, DateTime dob, string invoiceNumber) : this() 38: { 39: UniqueNumber = uniqueNumber; 40: Name = name; 41: Age = age; 42: DateOfBirth = dob; 43: InvoiceNumber = invoiceNumber; 44:  45: Alpha = "QWER"; 46: Beta = 5; 47: Delta = 1.0; 48: Gamma = 0.0; 49: } 50: } In the above example, every constructor over-writes the values for the readonly members. This is perfectly valid. There is a possibility that based on the way the object is instantiated, the readonly member will have a different value. Well, that’s all I have for today and read this as it’s on a related topic.

  • Howto install acts_as_xapian on Ubuntu

    - by normalocity
    I've run into some great resources for installing "acts_as_xapian", and the supporting native libraries that are necessary to make it work. I've even got it to work well on my dev machine (OS X). However, I've followed the instructions on this site, and it doesn't work on my Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic) production box. After successfully installing the "core" and "bindings" for xapian, the start of the mongrel server fails with the following: => Booting Mongrel => Rails 2.3.5 application starting on http://0.0.0.0:3000 acts_as_xapian: No Ruby bindings for Xapian installed /home/feelgoodtrader/.gem/ruby/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.3.5/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:105:in `const_missing': uninitialized constant ActsAsXapian::Search::Xapian (NameError) from /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/acts_as_xapian-0.1.3/lib/acts_as_xapian/search.rb:8 from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `gem_original_require' from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `require' from /home/feelgoodtrader/.gem/ruby/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.3.5/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:156:in `require' from /home/feelgoodtrader/.gem/ruby/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.3.5/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:521:in `new_constants_in' from /home/feelgoodtrader/.gem/ruby/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.3.5/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:156:in `require' from /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/acts_as_xapian-0.1.3/lib/acts_as_xapian.rb:2 from /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/acts_as_xapian-0.1.3/lib/acts_as_xapian.rb:1:in `each' from /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/acts_as_xapian-0.1.3/lib/acts_as_xapian.rb:1 from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `gem_original_require' from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `require' from /home/feelgoodtrader/.gem/ruby/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.3.5/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:156:in `require' from /home/feelgoodtrader/.gem/ruby/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.3.5/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:521:in `new_constants_in' from /home/feelgoodtrader/.gem/ruby/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.3.5/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:156:in `require' from /home/feelgoodtrader/.gem/ruby/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.5/lib/rails/gem_dependency.rb:208:in `load' from /home/feelgoodtrader/.gem/ruby/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.5/lib/initializer.rb:307:in `load_gems' from /home/feelgoodtrader/.gem/ruby/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.5/lib/initializer.rb:307:in `each' from /home/feelgoodtrader/.gem/ruby/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.5/lib/initializer.rb:307:in `load_gems' from /home/feelgoodtrader/.gem/ruby/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.5/lib/initializer.rb:164:in `process' from /home/feelgoodtrader/.gem/ruby/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.5/lib/initializer.rb:113:in `send' from /home/feelgoodtrader/.gem/ruby/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.5/lib/initializer.rb:113:in `run' from /home/feelgoodtrader/feelgoodtrader/config/environment.rb:13 from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `gem_original_require' from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `require' from /home/feelgoodtrader/.gem/ruby/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.3.5/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:156:in `require' from /home/feelgoodtrader/.gem/ruby/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.3.5/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:521:in `new_constants_in' from /home/feelgoodtrader/.gem/ruby/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.3.5/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:156:in `require' from /home/feelgoodtrader/.gem/ruby/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.5/lib/commands/server.rb:84 from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `gem_original_require' from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `require' from script/server:3

  • Custom validation works in development but not in unit test

    - by Geolev
    I want to validate that at least one of two columns have a value in my model. I found somewhere on the web that I could create a custom validator as follows: # Check for the presence of one or another field: # :validates_presence_of_at_least_one_field :last_name, :company_name - would require either last_name or company_name to be filled in # also works with arrays # :validates_presence_of_at_least_one_field :email, [:name, :address, :city, :state] - would require email or a mailing type address module ActiveRecord module Validations module ClassMethods def validates_presence_of_at_least_one_field(*attr_names) msg = attr_names.collect {|a| a.is_a?(Array) ? " ( #{a.join(", ")} ) " : a.to_s}.join(", ") + "can't all be blank. At least one field must be filled in." configuration = { :on => :save, :message => msg } configuration.update(attr_names.extract_options!) send(validation_method(configuration[:on]), configuration) do |record| found = false attr_names.each do |a| a = [a] unless a.is_a?(Array) found = true a.each do |attr| value = record.respond_to?(attr.to_s) ? record.send(attr.to_s) : record[attr.to_s] found = !value.blank? end break if found end record.errors.add_to_base(configuration[:message]) unless found end end end end end I put this in a file called lib/acs_validator.rb in my project and added "require 'acs_validator'" to my environment.rb. This does exactly what I want. It works perfectly when I manually test it in the development environment but when I write a unit test it breaks my test environment. This is my unit test: require 'test_helper' class CustomerTest < ActiveSupport::TestCase # Replace this with your real tests. test "the truth" do assert true end test "customer not valid" do puts "customer not valid" customer = Customer.new assert !customer.valid? assert customer.errors.invalid?(:subdomain) assert_equal "Company Name and Last Name can't both be blank.", customer.errors.on(:contact_lname) end end This is my model: class Customer < ActiveRecord::Base validates_presence_of :subdomain validates_presence_of_at_least_one_field :customer_company_name, :contact_lname, :message => "Company Name and Last Name can't both be blank." has_one :service_plan end When I run the unit test, I get the following error: DEPRECATION WARNING: Rake tasks in vendor/plugins/admin_data/tasks, vendor/plugins/admin_data/tasks, and vendor/plugins/admin_data/tasks are deprecated. • What is the most appropriate testing method in this scenario?

    - by Daniel Bruce
    I'm writing some Objective-C apps (for OS X/iOS) and I'm currently implementing a service to be shared across them. The service is intended to be fairly self-contained. For the current functionality I'm envisioning there will be only one method that clients will call to do a fairly complicated series of steps both using private methods on the class, and passing data through a bunch of "data mangling classes" to arrive at an end result. The gist of the code is to fetch a log of changes, stored in a service-internal data store, that has occurred since a particular time, simplify the log to only include the last applicable change for each object, attach the serialized values for the affected objects and return this all to the client. My question then is, how do I unit-test this entry point method? Obviously, each class would have thorough unit tests to ensure that their functionality works as expected, but the entry point seems harder to "disconnect" from the rest of the world. I would rather not send in each of these internal classes IoC-style, because they're small and are only made classes to satisfy the single-responsibility principle. I see a couple possibilities: Create a "private" interface header for the tests with methods that call the internal classes and test each of these methods separately. Then, to test the entry point, make a partial mock of the service class with these private methods mocked out and just test that the methods are called with the right arguments. Write a series of fatter tests for the entry point without mocking out anything, testing the entire functionality in one go. This looks, to me, more like "integration testing" and seems brittle, but it does satisfy the "only test via the public interface" principle. Write a factory that returns these internal services and take that in the initializer, then write a factory that returns mocked versions of them to use in tests. This has the downside of making the construction of the service annoying, and leaks internal details to the client. Write a "private" initializer that take these services as extra parameters, use that to provide mocked services, and have the public initializer back-end to this one. This would ensure that the client code still sees the easy/pretty initializer and no internals are leaked. I'm sure there's more ways to solve this problem that I haven't thought of yet, but my question is: what's the most appropriate approach according to unit testing best practices? Especially considering I would prefer to write this test-first, meaning I should preferably only create these services as the code indicates a need for them.

  • GLFW 3 initialized, yet not?

    - by mSkull
    I'm struggling with creating a window with the GLFW 3 function, glfwCreateWindow. I have set an error callback function, that pretty much just prints out the error number and description, and according to that the GLFW library have not been initialized, even though the glfwInit function just returned success? Here's an outtake from my code // Error callback function prints out any errors from GFLW to the console static void error_callback( int error, const char *description ) { cout << error << '\t' << description << endl; } bool Base::Init() { // Set error callback /*! * According to the documentation this can be use before glfwInit, * and removing won't change anything anyway */ glfwSetErrorCallback( error_callback ); // Initialize GLFW /*! * This return succesfull, but... */ if( !glfwInit() ) { cout << "INITIALIZER: Failed to initialize GLFW!" << endl; return false; } else { cout << "INITIALIZER: GLFW Initialized successfully!" << endl; } // Create window /*! * When this is called, or any other glfw functions, I get a * "65537 The GLFW library is not initialized" in the console, through * the error_callback function */ window = glfwCreateWindow( 800, 600, "GLFW Window", NULL, NULL ); if( !window ) { cout << "INITIALIZER: Failed to create window!" << endl; glfwTerminate(); return false; } // Set window to current context glfwMakeContextCurrent( window ); ... return true; } And here's what's printed out in the console INITIALIZER: GLFW Initialized succesfully! 65537 The GLFW library is not initialized INITIALIZER: Failed to create window! I think I'm getting the error because of the setup isn't entirely correct, but I've done the best I can with what I could find around the place I downloaded the windows 32 from glfw.org and stuck the 2 includes files from it into minGW/include/GLFW, the 2 .a files (from the lib-mingw folder) into minGW/lib and the dll, also from the lib-mingw folder, into Windows/System32 In code::blocks I have, from build options - linker settings, linked the 2 .a files from the download. I believe I need to link more things, but I can figure out what, or where I should get those things from.

  • Why is this line breaking Rails with Passenger on DreamHost?

    Ok, so I have a Rails app set up on DreamHost and I had it working a while ago and now it's broken. I don't know a lot about deployment environments or anything like that so please forgive my ignorance. Anyway, it looks like the app is crashing at this line in config/environment.rb: require File.join(File.dirname(__FILE__), 'boot') config/boot.rb is pretty much normal, but I'll include it here anyway. # Don't change this file! # Configure your app in config/environment.rb and config/environments/*.rb RAILS_ROOT = "#{File.dirname(__FILE__)}/.." unless defined?(RAILS_ROOT) module Rails class << self def boot! unless booted? preinitialize pick_boot.run end end def booted? defined? I'm trying to install Community Engine using the instructions here: http://github.com/bborn/communityengine At first I thought it might be because I had Rails 2.3.5 and desert 0.5.3 which were higher versions than what was mentioned on the installation site. However moving to rails 2.3.4 and desert 0.5.2 did not work. Any ideas as to what might be going on? $ script/generate plugin_migration /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.4/lib/rails/gem_dependency.rb:119:Warning: Gem::Dependency#version_requirements is deprecat ed and will be removed on or after August 2010. • What do these errors mean? ISOC++ forbids assignment of arrays...

    - by xunlinkx
    I'm trying to compile some code on one of our systems for our DBA...I've edited the makefiles to include the pertinent libraries listed in the documentation, but I keep getting these errors... Can you discern any obvious problems from my command lines in reference to the errors listed?
