  • Logcat error: "addView(View, LayoutParams) is not supported in AdapterView" in a ListView

    - by HacKreatorz
I'm doing an aplication for Android and something I need is that it shows a list of all files and directories in the SD Card and it has to be able to move through the different directories. I found a good tutorial in anddev: http://bit.ly/h4GyFC I modified a few things so the aplication moves in the SD Card and not in Android root Directories but the rest is mostly the same. This is my xml file for the activity: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <ListView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@id/android:list" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <TextView android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" /> </ListView> And this is the code for the Activity: import hackreatorz.cifrador.R; import java.io.File; import java.util.ArrayList; import android.app.ListActivity; import android.content.res.Configuration; import android.os.Bundle; import android.view.View; import android.widget.ArrayAdapter; import android.widget.ListView; import android.widget.Toast; public class ArchivosSD extends ListActivity { private ArrayList<String> directoryEntries = new ArrayList<String>(); private File currentDirectory = new File("/sdcard/"); @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); browseToSD(); } @Override public void onConfigurationChanged(Configuration newConfig) { super.onConfigurationChanged(newConfig); } private void browseToSD() { browseTo(new File("/sdcard/")); } private void upOneLevel() { if(this.currentDirectory.getParent() != null) this.browseTo(this.currentDirectory.getParentFile()); } private void browseTo(final File directory) { if (directory.isDirectory()) { this.currentDirectory = directory; fill(directory.listFiles()); } else { Toast.makeText(ArchivosSD.this, this.directoryEntries.get(this.getSelectedItemPosition()), Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); } } private void fill(File[] files) { this.directoryEntries.clear(); this.directoryEntries.add(getString(R.string.current_dir)); if(this.currentDirectory.getParent() != null) this.directoryEntries.add(getString(R.string.up_one_level)); int currentPathStringLength = (int) this.currentDirectory.getAbsoluteFile().length(); for (File file : files) { this.directoryEntries.add(file.getAbsolutePath().substring(currentPathStringLength)); } setListAdapter(new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, R.layout.archivos_sd, this.directoryEntries)); } @Override protected void onListItemClick(ListView l, View v, int position, long id) { int selectionRowID = (int) this.getSelectedItemPosition(); String selectedFileString = this.directoryEntries.get(selectionRowID); if (selectedFileString.equals(".")) { this.browseToSD(); } else if(selectedFileString.equals("..")) { this.upOneLevel(); } else { File clickedFile = null; clickedFile = new File(this.currentDirectory.getAbsolutePath() + this.directoryEntries.get(selectionRowID)); if(clickedFile != null) this.browseTo(clickedFile); } } } I don't get any errores in Eclipse, but I get a Force Close when running the aplication on my phone and when I look at Logcat I see the following: 01-01 23:30:29.858: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(14911): FATAL EXCEPTION: main *01-01 23:30:29.858: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(14911): java.lang.UnsupportedOperationException: addView(View, LayoutParams) is not supported in AdapterView* I don't have a clue what to do, I've looked up in Google and I didn't find anything and I did the same at stackoverflow. This is my first aplication in Java and for Android so I'm a real n00b and if the answer was there, I didn't understand it so I would really apreciate if you could explain what I should do to fix this error and why. Thanks for everything in advanced.

  • Android onClickListener options and help on creating a non-static array adapter

    - by CoderInTraining
    I am trying to make an application that gets data dynamically and displays it in a listView. Here is my code that I have with static data. There are a couple of things I want to try and do and can't figure out how. MainActivity.java package text.example.project; import java.util.ArrayList; import java.util.Arrays; import java.util.Collections; import android.app.ListActivity; import android.os.Bundle; import android.view.View; import android.widget.AdapterView; import android.widget.AdapterView.OnItemClickListener; import android.widget.ArrayAdapter; import android.widget.ListView; import android.widget.TextView; import android.widget.Toast; public class MainActivity extends ListActivity { //declarations private boolean isItem; private ArrayAdapter<String> item1Adapter; private ArrayAdapter<String> item2Adapter; private ArrayAdapter<String> item3Adapter; /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); Collections.sort(ITEM1); Collections.sort(ITEM2); Collections.sort(ITEM3); item1Adapter = new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, R.layout.list_item, ITEM1); item2Adapter = new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, R.layout.list_item, ITEM2); item3Adapter = new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, R.layout.list_item, ITEM3); setListAdapter(item1Adapter); isItem = true; ListView lv = getListView(); lv.setTextFilterEnabled(true); lv.setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener() { @Override public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View view, int position, long id) { // When clicked, show a toast with the TextView text if (isItem) { //ITEM1.add("another\n\t" + Calendar.getInstance().getTime()); Collections.sort(ITEM1); item2Adapter.notifyDataSetChanged(); setListAdapter(item2Adapter); isItem = false; } else { item1Adapter.notifyDataSetChanged(); setListAdapter(item1Adapter); isItem = true; } Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), ((TextView) view).getText(), Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); } }); } // need to turn dynamic static ArrayList<String> ITEM1 = new ArrayList<String> (Arrays.asList( "ITEM1-1", "ITEM1-2" )); static ArrayList<String> ITEM2 = new ArrayList<String> (Arrays.asList( "ITEM2-1", "ITEM2-2" )); static ArrayList<String> ITEM3 = new ArrayList<String> (Arrays.asList("ITEM3-1", "ITEM3-2")); } list_item.xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <TextView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:padding="10dp" android:textSize="16sp" > </TextView> What I want to do is first pull from a dynamic source. I need to do what is almost exactly like this tutorial... http://androiddevelopement.blogspot.in/2011/06/android-xml-parsing-tutorial-using.html ... however, I can't get the tutorial to work... I also would like to know how I can make the list item clicks so that if I click on "ITEM1-1" it goes to the menu "ITEM2-1" and "ITEM2-2". and if "ITEM1-2" is clicked, then it goes to the menu with "ITEM3-1" and "ITEM3-2"... I am totally a noob at this whole android development thing. So any suggestions would be great!

  • sqllite and populating list view, android

    - by Rob Bushway
I am populating a text and list view from a sqllite database. The data is populating from the cursor correctly (I see the list filling with text rows), but I'm not able to see the actual text in the rows - all I see are empty rows. For the life of me, I can't figure out what I'm not able to see the data in the text rows. My layouts: Tab layout: list layout: row layout: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> / My topics activity package com.gotquestions.gqapp; import com.gotquestions.gqapp.R.layout; import android.R; import android.app.ListActivity; import android.database.Cursor; import android.database.SQLException; import android.os.Bundle; import android.widget.SimpleCursorAdapter; public class TopicsActivity extends ListActivity { private DataBaseHelper myDbHelper; public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); // DataBaseHelper myDbHelper = new DataBaseHelper(this); myDbHelper = new DataBaseHelper(this); //test try { myDbHelper.openDataBase(); }catch(SQLException sqle){ throw sqle; } setContentView(layout.list_layout); Cursor c = myDbHelper.fetchAllTopics(); startManagingCursor(c); String[] from = new String[] { DataBaseHelper.KEY_TITLE }; int[] to = new int[] { R.id.text1 }; // Now create an array adapter and set it to display using our row SimpleCursorAdapter notes = new SimpleCursorAdapter(this, layout.notes_row, c, from, to); setListAdapter(notes); myDbHelper.close(); } } My database helper: package com.gotquestions.gqapp; import java.io.FileOutputStream; import java.io.IOException; import java.io.InputStream; import java.io.OutputStream; import android.content.Context; import android.database.Cursor; import android.database.SQLException; import android.database.sqlite.SQLiteDatabase; import android.database.sqlite.SQLiteException; import android.database.sqlite.SQLiteOpenHelper; import android.util.Log; public class DataBaseHelper extends SQLiteOpenHelper{ //The Android's default system path of your application database. private static String DB_PATH = "/data/data/com.gotquestions.gqapp/databases/"; private static String DB_NAME = "gotquestions_database.mp3"; public static final String KEY_TITLE = "topic_title"; public static final String KEY_ARTICLE_TITLE = "article_title"; public static final String KEY_ROWID = "_id"; private static final String TAG = null; private SQLiteDatabase myDataBase; // private final Context myContext; /** * Constructor * Takes and keeps a reference of the passed context in order to access to the application assets and resources. * @param context */ public DataBaseHelper(Context context) { super(context, DB_NAME, null, 1); this.myContext = context; } /** * Creates a empty database on the system and rewrites it with your own database. * */ public void createDataBase() throws IOException{ boolean dbExist = checkDataBase(); if(dbExist){ //do nothing - database already exist }else{ //By calling this method and empty database will be created into the default system path //of your application so we are gonna be able to overwrite that database with our database. this.getReadableDatabase(); try { copyDataBase(); } catch (IOException e) { throw new Error("Error copying database"); } } } /** * Check if the database already exist to avoid re-copying the file each time you open the application. * @return true if it exists, false if it doesn't */ private boolean checkDataBase(){ SQLiteDatabase checkDB = null; try{ String myPath = DB_PATH + DB_NAME; checkDB = SQLiteDatabase.openDatabase(myPath, null, SQLiteDatabase.OPEN_READONLY); }catch(SQLiteException e){ //database does't exist yet. } if(checkDB != null){ checkDB.close(); } return checkDB != null ? • ImageView scale type not working in list activity

    - by Justin
I have used ImageView's before and understand the different scale types that can be set... However I am having an incredibly difficult time trying to get an ImageView to scale properly in the row of a ListActivity or an ExpandableListActivity. I have tried setting the android:scaleType property to every single value but the image never scales down. I have set the min and max sizes as well and they don't seem to have any effect. I have done both of these things in both the XMl and in code to no avail... Does anyone have any ideas or perhaps a workaround? Thanks in advance!

  • Android: Context menu doesn't show up for ListView with members defined by LinearLayout?

    - by RandomEngy
I've got a ListActivity and ListView and I've bound some data to it. The data shows up fine, and I've also registered a context menu for the view. When I display the list items as just a simple TextView, it works fine: <TextView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/nametext" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content"/> However when I try something a bit more complex, like show the name and a CheckBox, the menu never shows up: <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:orientation="horizontal"> <TextView android:id="@+id/nametext" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content"/> <CheckBox android:id="@+id/namecheckbox" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" /> </LinearLayout> Can long-presses work on more complex elements? I'm building on 2.1.

  • ListView adapter data change without ListView being notified

    - by brockoli
    I've written a ListActivity that has a custom list adapter. The list is being updated from a ContentProvider when onCreate is run. I also have a service that gets started when I run the app and it first updates the ContentProvider, then sends a Broadcast that the content has been updated. My ListActivity recieves the broadcast and tries to update my ListView. My problem is, I'm getting intermittent errors about the ListView adapter data changing without the ListView being notified. I call the notifyDataSetChanged() method on my list adapter right after I update it. What it seems like is happening is the list is still in the process of being updated after first call in onCreate when it recieves the broadcast from the service to update, so it tries to update my ListView before it's finished updating from it's first run. Does this make sense? Here is some of my code. NOTE: The service is working properly, it gets new data and updates my ContentProvider, and I do get the broadcast in my activity when it is updated. @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); ctx = this; getPrefs(); setContentView(R.layout.main); // Setup preference listener preferences = PreferenceManager.getDefaultSharedPreferences(this); preferences.registerOnSharedPreferenceChangeListener(listener); // Setup report list adapter ListView nzbLv = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.report_list); nzbla = new NZBReportListAdaptor(ctx); getReports(); nzbla.setListItems(report_list); nzbLv.setAdapter(nzbla); // Broadcast receiver to get notification from NZBService to update ReportList registerReceiver(receiver, new IntentFilter(NZBService.BROADCAST_ACTION)); startService(new Intent(ctx, NZBService.class)); } @Override public void onResume() { super.onResume(); timerHandler.resume(); new updateSabQueue().execute(); //updateList(); } @Override public void onPause() { super.onPause(); timerHandler.pause(); unregisterReceiver(receiver); } private BroadcastReceiver receiver = new BroadcastReceiver() { public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) { Toast.makeText(ctx, "NZBService broadcast recieved", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); updateReportList(); } }; private void updateReportList() { new updateReportList().execute(); } private class updateReportList extends AsyncTask<Void, Void, Boolean> { /* (non-Javadoc) * @see android.os.AsyncTask#onPreExecute() * Show progress dialog */ protected void onPreExecute() { } /* (non-Javadoc) * @see android.os.AsyncTask#doInBackground(Params[]) * Get new articles from the internet */ protected Boolean doInBackground(Void...unused) { getReports(); return true; } /** * On post execute. * Close the progress dialog */ @Override protected void onPostExecute(Boolean updated) { if (updated) { Log.d(TAG, "NZB report list adapter updated"); synchronized(this) { nzbla.setListItems(report_list); } Log.d(TAG, "NZB report list notified of change"); nzbla.notifyDataSetChanged(); } } } Now that this question is answered, I will post my updated code in an effort to help others who might come across it. @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); ctx = this; getPrefs(); setContentView(R.layout.main); // Setup preference listener preferences = PreferenceManager.getDefaultSharedPreferences(this); preferences.registerOnSharedPreferenceChangeListener(listener); // Setup report list adapter ListView nzbLv = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.report_list); nzbla = new NZBReportListAdaptor(ctx); report_list.addAll(getReports()); nzbla.setListItems(report_list); nzbLv.setAdapter(nzbla); // Broadcast receiver to get notification from NZBService to update ReportList registerReceiver(receiver, new IntentFilter(NZBService.BROADCAST_ACTION)); startService(new Intent(ctx, NZBService.class)); } private class updateReportList extends AsyncTask<Void, Void, ArrayList<Report>> { /* (non-Javadoc) * @see android.os.AsyncTask#onPreExecute() * Show progress dialog */ protected void onPreExecute() { } /* (non-Javadoc) * @see android.os.AsyncTask#doInBackground(Params[]) * Get new articles from the internet */ protected ArrayList<Report> doInBackground(Void...unused) { return getReports(); } /** * On post execute. * Close the progress dialog */ @Override protected void onPostExecute(ArrayList<Report> updated) { nzbla.setListItems(updated); nzbla.notifyDataSetChanged(); } } private ArrayList<Report> getReports() { ArrayList<Report> reports = new ArrayList<Report>(); ContentResolver r = getContentResolver(); Cursor c = r.query(NZBReportProvider.CONTENT_URI, null, null, null, NZBReportProvider.ARTICLE_KEY_ROWID + " DESC"); startManagingCursor(c); Log.d(TAG, "NZBReport cursor.getCount=" + c.getCount()); int title = c.getColumnIndex(NZBReportProvider.ARTICLE_KEY_TITLE); int desc = c.getColumnIndex(NZBReportProvider.ARTICLE_KEY_DESCRIPTION); int cat = c.getColumnIndex(NZBReportProvider.ARTICLE_KEY_CAT); int size = c.getColumnIndex(NZBReportProvider.ARTICLE_KEY_SIZE); int link = c.getColumnIndex(NZBReportProvider.ARTICLE_KEY_LINK); int catid = c.getColumnIndex(NZBReportProvider.ARTICLE_KEY_CATID); int date = c.getColumnIndex(NZBReportProvider.ARTICLE_KEY_DATE_ADDED); int group = c.getColumnIndex(NZBReportProvider.ARTICLE_KEY_GROUP); if (c.getCount() > 0) { c.moveToFirst(); do { URL url = null; try { url = new URL(c.getString(link)); } catch (MalformedURLException e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } reports.add(new Report(c.getString(title), url, c.getString(desc), c.getString(cat), c.getString(date), c.getString(size), c.getInt(catid), c.getString(group))); } while (c.moveToNext()); } return reports; }

  • Checkbox 'Checked' in ListView is restored after scrolling

    - by adrianrdzv
I'm having the following problem: I have a ListActivity, which its ListView is composed by an icon, text and a checkbox (using LayoutInflater). The Adapter for the ListView extends ResourceCursorAdapter (i.e. the data source of the ListView is retrieved from a database, also the Checked status of each row) Everything works pretty Ok, except when I uncheck/check the checkbox in any row, if I scroll down until the modified checkbox is no longer visible, and then scroll up, the checkbox is restored to its original state. The database IS modified, this is not the problem (i.e. if I modify a row and exit the activity, and enter again, the modified row is displayed Ok). My guess is that this has something to do on how the list is rendered because for some reason the ListView "renders" the original state of all rows when it was first populated when scrolling. I've been looking around for this bug but I don't find anybody that had this problem. I appreciate any advice you have.

  • Android: Create TextView that flashes when clicked

    - by Jeremy
How do I set up a TextView to flash when it is clicked? I essentially want one of the objects that is displayed in a ListActivity, but inside a normal View. I have tried to do this by adding an OnClickListener, but what I really need is something like adding an On(Un)SelectListener. Using the onClickListener, I can change the TextView background, but obviously the background stays that color. I thought of using a new Handler().postDelayed(new Runnable(){ ... }) kind of thing to reset the backround after some small time, but I did not know if this would be overkill for what I'm trying to do. What would you recommend?

  • Android: Send arbitrary objects within Activities?

    - by Sebastian
I have read some question here but I didn't find a solution. I have read about Parcelable, Intents, and sharing specific data within Activities from the android dev docs (both dev guide and reference). Here's the scenario: I have one ListActivity that fills in an object parsing an xml file, it shows a list of values, and when clicked I want to return the object that represents the item clicked to the activity that has called it, for then, call another activity with this object. I read on how to implement Parcelable but seems not being the way. Implementing Parcelable receives a Parcel for the constructor and then reads the values from it (or at least that was what I understood). This makes no sense for me and I can't see how to implement basing on that issue. I build the object parsing the xml file, not having a Parcel. I appreciate some clarifications on this, regards.

  • Pass in the object a java class is embedded in as a parameter.

    - by Leif Andersen
I'm building an android application, which has a list view, and in the list view, a click listener, containing an onItemClick method. So I have something like this: public class myList extends ListActivity { @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { getListView().setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener() { public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View view, int position, long id) { /* Do something*/ } } } Normally, this works fine. However, many times I find myself needing too preform an application using the outer class as a context. thusfar, I've used: parent.getContext(); to do this, but I would like to know, is that a bad idea? I can't really call: super because it's not really a subclass, just an embedded one. So is there any better way, or is that considered cosure? Also, if it is the right way, what should I do if the embedded method doesn't have a parameter to get the outside class? Thank you.

  • Android's listview. Update view within of of the cells just after invalidating Activity's view

    - by davs
I have ListViewActivity public class SelectActivity extends ListActivity { protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.select_one_of); SimpleAdapter adapter = new SimpleAdapter( this, createChildList(), R.layout.select_one_of_childrow, new String[] { KEY_VALUE }, new int[] { R.id.selectoneof_add_new_item}); setListAdapter(adapter); } // ... } after setListAdapter() calls I would like to execute the following code: ((TextView) getListView().getChildAt(0).findViewById(R.id.selectoneof_add_new_item)).setCompoundDrawablesWithIntrinsicBounds(0, 0, R.drawable.ticked, 0); but getListView().getChildAt(xxx) returns null and I catch NullPointerException. Where should I put mentioned above code-snippet?

  • Need guidance for my first Android application: how many activities should I use?

    - by jul
Hi, I'm starting Android doing an application for searching restaurants, and some guidance would be welcome! On the first screen I'd like to have a search field with a submit button (I get the data from a web service), and below a list with the results of the search. When clicking on one of the items of the list it will show a screen with the restaurant details as well as a map showing its location. My questions are: Can I do everything in one single activity or should I do an activity for the search, one for the result list, one for the restaurant description, and another for the map? Would doing one single activity make the application more responsive? How can I use a list and a map within a normal activity (without ListActivity and MapActivity)? Any help, pointer, example application or sample code is very appreciated! Thank you Jul

  • Only error showing is null, rss feed reader not working

    - by Callum
I have been following a tutorial which is showing me how to create an rssfeed reader, I come to the end of the tutorial; and the feed is not displaying in the listView. So I am looking for errors in logCat, but the only one I can find is one just saying 'null', which is not helpful at all. Can anyone spot a potential problem with the code I have written? Thanks. • On screen orientation loads again data with Async Task

    - by Zookey
I make Android application with master/detail pattern. So I have ListActivity class which is FragmentActivity and ListFragment class which is Fragment It all works perfect, but when I change screen orientation it calls again AsyncTask and reload all data. Here is the code for ListActivity class where I handle all logic: @Override protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.activity_list); getActionBar().setDisplayHomeAsUpEnabled(true); getActionBar().setHomeButtonEnabled(true); getActionBar().setTitle("Dnevni horoskop"); if(findViewById(R.id.details_container) != null){ //Tablet mTwoPane = true; //Fragment stuff FragmentManager fm = getSupportFragmentManager(); FragmentTransaction ft = fm.beginTransaction(); DetailsFragment df = new DetailsFragment(); ft.add(R.id.details_container, df); ft.commit(); } pb = (ProgressBar) findViewById(R.id.pb_list); tvNoConnection = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.tv_no_internet); ivNoConnection = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.iv_no_connection); list = (GridView) findViewById(R.id.gv_list); • Android - updating a list adapter creates a NullPointException

    - by GeekedOut
    I have a ListActivity which has an adapter that crashes. Here is the code that crashes the program: Question q = new Question (); q.setQuestion( "" ); questions.add(q); adapter = new ArrayAdapter<Question>(this, R.layout.user_question_list, R.id.label, questions); Here is how I create the adapter: ArrayAdapter<Question> adapter; ArrayList<Question> questions = new ArrayList <Question>( ); and the list xml is like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <TextView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:padding="10dp" android:textSize="16sp" > </TextView> and the overall Activity xml is like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:orientation="vertical" > <TextView android:id="@+id/question_label" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="Loading your questions..." /> <ListView android:id="@android:id/list" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="@+id/label" android:textSize="20px" > </ListView> <Button android:id="@+id/add_question" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="Ask a Question" android:onClick="sendFeedback" android:layout_width="fill_parent"> </Button> </LinearLayout> Any idea why the code where I try to update the adapter results in the NullPointerException? Thanks!!
