• Somehow Google considers a properly 301'd URL as 200 and is still indexing the new content in old page?

  We redirected all the old URL's to new ones properly using htaccess. The problem is Google, somehow is still finding content in the old page(which it shouldn't) and stores it in the cache rather than the new URL. For eg: Old Page- http://www.natures-energies.com/iching.htm New Page- http://www.natures-energies.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=760 If you type the old URL into the browser it redirects If you fetch the old URL as Googlebot in the webmaster tools the header says 301/permanently redirected. If I try to crawl as any other bot it still says 301 redirected. Even if you click the old link in Google it redirects to the new URL. Only in its cache it shows the old URL and moreover it shows the new content in it! I am stumped on how Google manages to grab the new content and puts in the old URL instead of the new one! One more interesting thing is that if I try a cache for the new page it shows the cache of the new content with old URL! Any help would be appreciated. I am at end of my wits. I think i have tried almost everything. Is there anything that I'm missing to see? You can use this search to find the old url's. • Upgrading PHP, MySQL old-passwords issue

  I've inherited a Windows 2k3 server running an XAMPP-installation from the stone age. I needed to upgrade PHP to facilitate an upgrade to MediaWiki to facilitate a new MediaWiki extension (to facilitate some documentation to facilitate doing my job to facilitate getting paid to facilit... you get the idea). However... installing a new version of PHP resulted in PHP's MySQL libraries refusing to communicate using MySQL's 'old style' 152-bit passwords. Not a problem in theory. The MySQL installation is post-4.1, so it should have the functionality to upgrade the user's passwords from 152-bit to 328-bit (what a weird hashing algorithm...). I ran the following: SET PASSWORD = PASSWORD('foo'); on MySQL but querying: SELECT user, password FROM mysql.user; returned just the same password I started out with - 152-bit. Now... I suspect you're thinking 'AHA! old-passwords is on!'. Unfortunately it's not - I've disabled it in the configuration (explicitly set it to 0), made doubly sure I have an absolute reference to that configuration file and ensured the service isn't using the --old-passwords flag. The service was reset after each and every operation. So I went onto another system and generated the 328-bit hash on there, copying the hash over to the first MySQL instance. Unfortunately, that didn't work either (I did remember to FLUSH PRIVILEGES). The application error is: "'mysqlnd cannot connect to MySQL 4.1+ using the old insecure authentication. Please use an administration tool [...snip...] Is there anything else I can try to get PHP to recognise MySQL as not using the 'old insecure authentication'? MySQL seems to be stuck in 'old-passwords' mode and I can't get it out of it.

• Removing old kernel entries in Grub

  I regularly delete old kernels leaving only the latest two entries using Synaptic. I'm using Precise. However in my Grub "previous Linux version" menu there are quite a few entries labelled 2.6.8. • Rendering 8 bit graphics

  I have a strong programming background just not from game development. I only made some pong and snake in high school and I did some OpenGL in college. I want to make my own game engine. Nothing fancy just a simple 2D game engine. But because I'm kinda old school and feeling retro. I want graphics to look like old 8 bit games (megaman, contra, super mario, ...). So how were the old games made back then? I want the simplest approach. Were they also using assets (images) like newer engines now do? How do you achieve this kind of rendering using OpenGL? Keep in mind. Simplest solution. I want to know how it was made back then and how I can replicate that. Doesn't even have to be OpenGL. I can draw on window canvas. I do want to make it from scratch basically.

• DNS for domain shows old website for www version

  I bought 2 domains form GoDaddy but with both I am seeing the same problems in that the domain on the www version goes to the old site which is still being hosted. I have checked the IntoDNS website and in the www record it shows: Your www.example.com A record is: www.example.com -> example.typepad.com -> cname-cloudflare.typepad.com -> What can I do to stop this from happening? Will this eventually be automatically removed and fix itself? Though obviously it's not automatically fixed itself in the long drawn out expiry process... It's been quite a while for one of them and still hasn't propagated for the www. I'm not having any problems with the normal example.com part of the site.

I uploaded all of my content on the second domain, but now when I search in Google about some query related to my http://another-domain.com/ site then I also find my old domain in the results. Will this give a duplicate content error for my new domain or any other kind of penalty from Google?

• Recover personal PGP key from old home

  Many lives ago, I created a GPG key to sign the Ubuntu Code of Conduct on Launchpad. I haven't really used it since. Some time later, I backed up my home and started fresh. • Get access to files on old HD installation and remove system files

  I have been fooling with ubuntu for only a year or so. Added SSD installed ubuntu(12.04 64bit) connected old drive with ubuntu on it. everything seems to work well, except for access to some files. I would like to do two things: 1) move the swap file from the SSD to the partition on the HD. 2) remove ubuntu system files and gain full access to my other files. I can still remove the SSD and run ubuntu from the HD, so if I am approaching this incorrectly please advise. Thanks in advance Blake

  I am trying to recover data from an old Linux that was installed in a computer on an ATA hard drive. I found a ScanLogic USB-IDE, an ATA adapter to USB 1.0 similar to the one in the picture: and after switching it on, I plugged it into a laptop with Ubuntu 12.04. I am used to the drives being automatically mounted, but this one doesn't show up in /media.   I don't want to mingle in any backstory, but all that needs to be known is that I have a computer with Ubuntu on it and I am trying to install Windows 8 from an ISO. I am using the guide that can be found here which is a little more than four years old. Now, I've been able to accomplish everything up to Step 2, at which point I am stuck. I have downloaded the file found on that page, which can be found here, and have attempted to use it, as directed, quote; "right click the downloaded Unetbootin file, select Properties and on the "Permissions" tab, check the "Allow executing file as program" box. Then simply double click it and it should open." But, after having set checked the specified box and double clicking the file, nothing happens. Nothing is launched and nothing changes. I've been stuck here for several hours now, having failed to find a solution via Google.

• Limit the size of a directory by deleting old files

  I have a IP cam which save its recordings in a specific directory named Camera1 in my Ubuntu Server 12.04. I would like to limit the size of this folder to 5 gigs, by deleting -say once a day- the oldest files. I first checked the quota program but it doesn't seem to allow the creation of new files and deleting of the old ones. So I think the best workaround would be to run a bash script ? • Restoring Virtualbox machine images from old hard drive

  I recently replaced the HDD in my laptop, and re-installed Windows & Ubuntu. Now I want to restore the various virtual machines I had set up on the old HDD, which is mounted in an external USB enclosure. I can read the HDD okay, and the 'bad' spots seemed to be in the Windows partition... but whenever I try to restore the VDI files the copy errors out. I've tried drag-n-drop in Nautilus, I've tried grsync, etc. Always bombs out on the VDI files. I've copied over multi-GB dvd iso images with no problem, but the VDI files always fail the checksums. • Redisigning an old site, structure change etc

  I have an old site built in 2006, it has around 200 pages and 500 pictures. Every single page is of course indexed as well as images. It is very well ranked for targeted keywords and I receive good amount of SEO traffic (I guess that's due the various campaigns, branding, ppc, etc..) Problem: Site has outdated design, pages and images have not so proper names, there are no heading and alt tags, it was built in tables, inline CSS etc.. Goal: Complete redisign site, use divs, change file names, add proper meta data, alt tags etc.. Question: How this can affect current SEO positions? I will redirect (301) every single page to the new one, build site map, but what to do with images? Do I need to redirect them also? Any other suggestion?

• How to eliminate an old Ubuntu partition?

  I installed Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit side by side with my previous 11.10 32-bit. As everything is working correctly, I want to eliminate the old partition. According to update-grub: Found Ubuntu 11.10 (11.10) on /dev/sda1 But according to GParted, /dev/sda1 is the boot partition! So, how can I discover which partition should be the boot partition for 12.04? Can I safely eliminate the /dev/sda1? Also, GParted gives /dev/sda5 as file system unknown, it's 2.93Gib and might be the swap partition (just guessing).

  Possible Duplicate: Change host / keep emails OK here's the situation...I'm trying to transfer my domain and email address to a new hosting service and I would like to start using Google's domain apps for my email, etc. My email address is currently on a WebMail type platform and when I move my domain and start using Google domain apps I would also like to keep the old emails and have them imported the the email address on Google. Note: The email address will be the same on both hosts. For example [email protected]. So its keeping the same address between two different systems. I've been Googling how to do this for awhile and all the migrate options that come up don't appear in the the Google inbox setting or domain apps config settings. Any help is greatly appreciated.
