    how do i create an app that is: lightweight: i am guessing don't require .NET frameworks maybe? portable: runs without installing and saves data in the app directory, so i can just move the folder or maybe even the exe? this is just a personal experiment: i want to try create a simple todo list app that has the above attributes i am thinking C#/WPF (but requires .NET framework, i can explore client profile tho) Appcelerator Titanium (i think this will be lightweight & good enough? i dunno if i can have a portable titanium app tho)

  • Do Portable Class Libraries work with .net 3.5?

    I am running Windows 8 and have both Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate w/sp1 and Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate and I am trying to create a Portable Class Library that supports .net 3.5 and greater. When I first try to create a PCL I get a screen like this: I noticed that .net 3.5 is not in the list so I clicked on "Install additional frameworks" and found a Targeting Pack for version 3.5. But when I download and run "dotnetfx35setup.exe" nothing happens. And when I go back into VS and try to create a new Portable Class Library, it lists the same target frameworks as before. I have also turned on the Windows Features for .NET Framework 3.5 and am now out of ideas. Here is a screen shot in case I missed something else. Thanks,

    In Ubuntu can you create a portable application and have it work on an os like suse 10.x via USB stick? I'm not sure if this can be done or not, how to do it or if it would be compatible, any advice is greatly welcomed. I need to make a portable version of Stellarium and have it work in Suse 10.x. I haven't been able portable linux versions. I'm pretty sure there can be portable versions of applications since you can run a program like TOR on it.

  • Device Manager is constantly refreshing - what is wrong?

    I ran into an quite odd problem, after installing some drivers on my Lenovo N100 0768 (Windows 7) notebook and attaching an USB-HDD. Now I have sound, but constantly the device dicsonnected sound - like every 2 seconds! Looked at the device manager and it is flashing together with the sound. A quick search on the net directed me towords driver issues or issues with attached usb-devices. No big suprise here - but how can I solve this?!

    Recently I changed a friend's OS from a really virus filled windows 7 to Ubuntu ..but kept changing os's because lsusb wouldn't detect the camera.But after coming back to windows, the camera wasn't detected, though I must point out the device driver for the camera was never found. The Sony 'technician' told me that that since the dev-manager of windows 7 couldn't detect the camera , irregardless of whether the device driver was installed, the software change must have damaged the hardware. I was wondering if there is any truth to it.

    Hi, Is there any portable (Windows & Linux) way of counting how many milliseconds elapsed between two calls ? Basically, I want to achieve the same functionnality than the StopWatch class of .NET. (for those who already used it) In a perfect world, I would have used boost::date_time but that's not an option here due to some silly rules I'm enforced to respect.   • How do you automatically close 3rd party applications when LiberKey is shut down?

    Within LiberKey, I have added my own portable applications that are not included within the LiberKey library. When you go into the Properties menu for the app in the LiberKey UI, the Advanced tab has an option for Autoexecute. This dropdown menu seems to have no visible effect, at least on my current installation. I found that I could right click within the primary GUI and select "Add software group", add all 3rd party applications, then go to the Advanced tab within THAT Properties screen and select Autoexecute - "Always on startup". This solved the problem for starting the apps when LiberKey starts. However, now I'm having the same issue when closing out LiberKey. I have created a new 3rd party app that calls the same .exe, but sends the Parameter "/close". I then went to the Advanced tab and selected Autoexecute - "Always on shutdown". Seems pretty logical right? But the apps will not close on LiberKey shutdown. I cannot handle the app close-outs in the same way with a software group, as I did with the startup issue because the Autoexecute drop-down does not have an "Always on shutdown" option. Unfortunately, many of the Q&A forums on liberkey.com are in French and I took Spanish in high school. Otherwise I've not been able to find a workable answer. Any suggestions?

    Is there a way to embed multiple dependent assemblies into a single one for projects written on the following platform types: Windows Store Apps, Windows Phone 8, Portable Class Library? I know that for regular .Net projects there is ILMerge, but on the aforementioned project types it doesn't work. Embedding assemblies as resources and then manually resolving the references using AppDomain.CurrentDomain.AssemblyResolve is not possible either, since AppDomain is not available in these types of project.

A client's block device should write simultaneously to several storage nodes A client's block device should not fail as long as not all storage nodes backing it went down The master should automatically redistribute storages' data when a storage node fails or gets added/ removed A single master (which is for metadata only) is fine So ideally the architecture would be very similar to moosefs (http://www.moosefs.org/) but instead of exposing a real filesystem mounted using a fuse client it'd expose block devices on the clients. I know of iscsi and drbd but both don't seem to offer what I'm looking for. Or am I missing something?

The laptop model is HP dv9500, Ubuntu 10.10, but the same was in the versions before. How can I fix this?     I have HD 4850 card, Ubuntu 12.10 and installed legacy drivers using makson96 ppa. The issue is, that FGLRX can not detect my device and loads vesa bios. I had the same problem on ubuntu 11.10, 12.04 versions. I want to manually help fglrx find a matching device to load as it shoudld do.   • export block device over network without root

    I'm trying to export a file as a block device over the network. I do not have root access on the machine where the file exists. I do have root access on the machine(s) where I will mount the block device. I've seen ATA-Over-Ethernet and ISCSI but there don't seem to be any implementations which allow me to export the block without root at least (some even require kernel modules). Is there an implementation of either of these or some other protocol that doesn't require root? Perhaps I can tunnel ethernet over IP to do this?

  • External USB attached drive works in Windows XP but not in Windows 7. How to fix?

    Earlier this week I purchased this "N52300 EZQuest Pro" external hard drive enclosure from here. I can connect the enclosure using USB 2.0 and access the files in both NTFS partitions on the MBR partitioned drive when I use either Windows XP (SP3) or Mac OS X 10.6. So it works as expected in XP & Snow Leopard. However, the enclosure does not work in Windows 7 (Home Premium) either 64-bit or 32-bit or in Ubuntu 10.04 (kernel 2.6.32-23-generic). I'm thinking this must be a Windows 7 driver problem because the enclosure works in XP & Snow Leopard. I do know that no special drivers are required to use this enclosure. It is supported using the USB mass storage drivers included with XP and OS X. It should also work fine using the mass storage support in Windows 7, no? FWIW, I have also tried using 32-bit Windows 7 on both my desktop, a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 with a Pentium Dual-Core E6500 @ 2.93GHz, and on my early 2008 MacBook. I see the same failure in both cases that I see with 64-bit Windows 7. So it doesn't appear to be specific to one hardware platform. I'm hoping someone out there can help me either get the enclosure to work in Windows 7 or convince me that the enclosure hardware is bad and should be RMAed. At the moment though an RMA seems pointless since this appears to be a (Windows 7) device driver problem. I have tried to track down any updates to the mass storage drivers included with Windows 7 but have so far come up empty. Heck, I can't even figure out how to place a bug report with Microsoft since apparently the grace period for Windows 7 email support is only a few months. I came across a link to some USB troubleshooting steps in another question. I haven't had a chance to look over the suggestions on that site or try them yet. Maybe tomorrow if I have time ... ;-) I'll finish up with some more details about the problem. When I connect the enclosure using USB to Windows 7 at first it appears everything worked. Windows detects the drive and installs a driver for it. Looking in Device Manager there is an entry under the Hard Drives section with the title, Hitachi HDT721010SLA360 USB Device. When you open Windows Disk Management the first time after the enclosure has been attached the drive appears as "Not initialize" and I'm prompted to initialize it. This is bogus. After all, the drive worked fine in XP so I know it has already been initialized, partitioned, and formatted. So of course I never try to initialize it "again". (It's a 1 GB drive and I don't want to lose the data on it). Except for this first time, the drive never shows up in Disk Management again unless I uninstall the Hitachi HDT721010SLA360 USB Device entry under Hard Drives, unplug, and then replug the enclosure. If I do that then the process in the previous paragraph repeats. In Ubuntu the enclosure never shows up at all at the file system level. Below are an excerpt from kern.log and an excerpt from the result of lsusb -v after attaching the enclosure. It appears that Ubuntu at first recongnizes the enclosure and is attempting to attach it, but encounters errors which prevent it from doing so. Today I recieved a 1394b 9 pin to 1394a 6 pin cable which allowed me to connect the "EZQuest Pro" via Firewire. Everything works. When I use Firewire I can connect whether I'm using Windows 7 or Ubuntu 10.04. I even tried booting my Gigabyte desktop as an OS X 10.6.3 Hackintosh and it worked there as well. (Though if I recall correctly, it also worked when using USB 2.0 and booting OS X on the desktop. Certainly it works with USB 2.0 and my MacBook.) I believe the firmware on the device is at the latest level available, v1.07. I base this on the excerpt below from the OS X System Profiler which shows Firmware Revision: 0x107. Bottom line: It's nice that the enclosure is actually usable when I connect with Firewire. But I am still searching for an answer as to why it does not work correctly when using USB 2.0 in Windows 7 (and Ubuntu ... but really Windows 7 is my biggest concern).     The function midiOutGetDevCaps returns a structure MIDIOUTCAPS. I'd need more specific information when querying a usb midi device on windows xp, in particular I'd need the information displayed under "Location" when opening the respective device using the Device Manager. I need this information in order to programmatically distinguish between several MIDI Interfaces connected to a computer. Using midiOutGetDevCaps, I uniformly get "USB Audio Device" for every midi usb interface connected to the computer, so distinguishing between the interfaces is impossible.

    I have seen a few suggestions on making emacs portable (on Windows). I have this in my site-start.el: (defvar program-dir (substring data-directory 0 -4)) (setq inhibit-startup-message t) (setenv "HOME" program-dir) I changed the HOME variable so that not only my .emacs init files (and other init files) are read, but everything generated by emacs will stay in the program directory, not needing me to specify the path for everything one by one. Well this works well but the emacs server is not working; I get error message "no connection could be made because target machine actively refused it." If I don't change my HOME var then emacs server works. Is there way to fix this?

  • Portable Contacts for PHP?

    I can see Google is implementing the Portable Contacts API for developers to fetch a user's contacts. That seems like exactly what I want to do and I especially like the fact that the protocol is open and through it I can support more than just Google. What I'd like to know is whether there is a library for PHP that implements this protocol, as I don't feel like writing one from scratch / reinventing the wheel. I wouldn't generally post such questions which could be answered by simply googling, but I've done my googling on the subject and can't seem to find any relevant info. BTW, I don't use Zend, so please don't suggest that to me, unless it's the only way possible.

    I am writing a program that opens LPT1 and writes a value to it. The WriteFile function is returning an error code of 1167, "The device is not connected". The Device Manager shows that LPT1 is present. I have a cable connected between a development board and the PC. The cable converts JTAG pin signals to signals on the parallel port. Power is applied and the cable is connected between the development board and the PC. The development board is powered on.     I'm using the android plugin for eclipse, and when I try to run my program using a real device through the android device chooser, my phone is not listed as a device. I have updated eclipse and all of the android packages, but it still isn't showing up. My phone is running 1.6, which is also the target version listed in the eclipse project. Also, the reason I decided to try testing on a real device is because the emulator doesn't seem to be working right anymore when I run my project. The emulator launches, but the program never does. Any ideas? (using windows 7/t-mobile mytouch 3g)
