  • Cheap programmable, portable device

    - by Ars
Since a long time I have thrived for being able to program something I can take with me - a very small computer like a programmable calculator, gameboy, pocket PC or cellphone. However, I didn't find anything fitting yet! The thing I'm looking at is the price, because I can't afford to spend too much money on it. What are some cheap portable programmable devices? All I'd need is support for uploading assembler code from my computer. I don't care about the display, a simple LCD would be sufficient. Same goes for the buttons I have looked at programmable calculators, portable gaming consoles such as the PSP and more, however didn't find anything that fit :(

  • Portable Class Library even better in .NET 4.5

    - by nmarun
Visual Studio 2012 makes Cross-Platform development even easier. It comes with a feature called Portable Class Library (PCL). This feature was available in Visual Studio 2010 as well, but it required an additional install as against being out-of-the-box for 2012. It’s also worth noting that PCL is available only for Pro and above versions of 2012. So it’s not available with the Express edition of Visual Studio 2012. Let’s get started. In Visual Studio 2012 you can see a template called Portable Class...(read more)

  • Wammu - USB Device Name?

    - by Paul
I'm trying to get to my phone's filesystem through USB in Wammu, but I'm stuck in the configuration wizard when it asks for a USB device name. After about an hour of Internet searching, here are the failed solutions I've already tried, starting with the relevant information returned by lsusb in terminal. lsusb Bus 001 Device 003: ID 12d1:101e Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. So I tried opening Wammu through sudo wammu in terminal and inputting "/dev/bus/usb/001/003" as the device name, which returns: Error opening device Device /dev/bus/usb/001/003 does not exist! and then "/dev/bus/usb/001/", which returns: Failed to connect to phone Description: Error opening device. Unknown, busy, or no permissions.<br> Function: Init<br> Error code: 2 Another proposed solution was to try "tail -f /var/log/messages" in terminal. But that only returned a "No such file or directory" message. Seemingly relevant dmesg info: [ 4739.716214] usb 1-1: new high-speed USB device number 8 using ehci_hcd [ 4739.854137] scsi9 : usb-storage 1-1:1.0 [ 4740.854416] scsi 9:0:0:0: CD-ROM HUAWEI T Mass Storage 2.31 PQ: 0 ANSI: 2 [ 4740.867051] sr0: scsi-1 drive [ 4740.867806] sr 9:0:0:0: Attached scsi CD-ROM sr0 [ 4740.870464] sr 9:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg1 type 5 I don't know why it is coming up as CD-ROM. But there it is. If you haven't noticed already, I'm an absolute beginner when it comes to Linux and terminal. So speaking to me like I'm a three year old is welcome if you can propose a solution. I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, and the phone is a Huawei U1250. My computer is an Acer Aspire One D250/KAV60. Any help is much appreciated.

  • Link between low level drivers and tty drivers

    - by agent.smith
I was writing a console driver for linux and I came across the tty interface that I need to set up for this driver. I got confused as to how tty drivers are bound with low-level drivers. Many times the root file system already contains a lot of tty devices. I am wondering how low-level devices can bind to one of the existing tty nodes on the root file system. For example, /dev/tty7 : Node on the root file system. How does a low-level device driver connect with this node? Or should that low-level device define a completely new tty device?

  • Digital Signature Device Recommendations (Mini Tablet)

    - by blu
I'd like to capture signatures of application users with a mini-tablet/little pos signature device. I welcome any first hand experiences of which ones were good and which ones to stay away from. Off the top of my head I can think of a few features I'd like to see: USB interface Not too expensive (I don't know 100-200 dollars?) Be easy to integrate with a managed .NET application Also I realize most people, myself included, think of digitally signing assemblies with code instead of a mini-tablet device, if there is a more accurate phrase for this pleas let me know. Thanks for any input.

  • Measuring device drivers CPU/IO utilization caused by my program

    - by Lior Kogan
Sometimes code can utilize device drivers up to the point where the system is unresponsive. Lately I've optimized a WIN32/VC++ code which made the system almost unresponsive. The CPU usage, however, was very low. The reason was 1000's of creations and destruction of GDI objects (pens, brushes, etc.). Once I refactored the code to create all objects only once - the system became responsive again. This leads me to the question: Is there a way to measure CPU/IO usage of device drivers (GPU/disk/etc) for a given program / function / line of code?

  • Is it possible to use XP visual styles (*.msstyles) or Windows Blinds in a thinapp portable applicat

    - by Camilo Martin
It's been a while since I made a portable (Office 2007) Thinapp application, and since then I've uninstalled VMWare from my machine to free up space, so I'd like to know if someone already knows the answer to this before I set up everything again to try it. I'm thinking of installing a visual style (*.msstyles, for XP) along with the application to thinapp before post-setup capture. Failing that, maybe I'll try with visual mods such as Windows Blinds. The purpose is to be able to run a portable application with a specific visual style. So my question is: Is it possible? (I believe it somehow is, since VirtualBox does something similar to XP Mode) If it is, will it work on a computer with the "classic" Windows style? If it's not, will it work with another virtualization software? (Xenocode?) If it's not possible with *.msstyles, will it work with visual mods such as Windows Blinds? Thanks for any input! (P.S.: Awfully tagged due to lack of relevant tags or 100+ rep to create a tag :P)

  • NSFileManager works fine on simulator but not on device

    - by Jenicek
Hi, I have problem creating directories and files with NSFileManager on the iPhone device. My code, shown below, works fine on the simulator, but not on the device, could you please help me? Gimme some directions where the problem may be, thanks for every reply.. I'm first creating directories this way: NSFileManager *fileMgr = [NSFileManager defaultManager]; NSArray *arPaths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDownloadsDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES); NSString *appPath = [[NSString alloc] init]; appPath = [arPaths objectAtIndex:0]; strDownloadsDir = [[NSString alloc] init]; strDownloadsDir = [[appPath stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"/Other"] copy]; if(![fileMgr fileExistsAtPath:strDownloadsDir]) [fileMgr createDirectoryAtPath:strDownloadsDir attributes:nil]; and then I'm trying to create new file in this directory this way: NSString *filePath = [strDownloadsDir stringByAppendingPathComponent:strDlFileName]; //Test whether this file exists, if not, create it NSLog(@"%@", filePath); if(![fileMgr fileExistsAtPath:filePath]) { if([fileMgr createFileAtPath:filePath contents:nil attributes:nil]) NSLog(@"Creating new file at path %@", filePath); else NSLog(@"Failed to create new file."); } It seems that there's something wrong with whole NSFileManager, because when I'm using fileExistAtPath with a path given by this NSArray *arPaths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDownloadsDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES); NSString *appPath = [[NSString alloc] init]; appPath = [arPaths objectAtIndex:0]; it is not working too, I tried to change directory to NSDocumentsDirectory but it did not help

  • Linux Device Driver - what's wrong with my device_read()?

    - by Rob
    My device /dev/my_inc is meant to take a positive integer N represented as an ascii string, and store it. Any read from /dev/my_inc will produce the ascii string representation of N + 1. The problem is that when I cat /dev/my_inc, I only get the first byte of myinc_value output to my shell, even though I have bytes_read == 2 at the end of my loop. /* Read from the device *********************/ static ssize_t device_read(struct file *filp, char *buffer, size_t length, loff_t *offset) { char c; int bytes_read = 0; int value = myinc_value + 1; printk(KERN_INFO "my_inc device_read() called with value %d and msg %s.\n", value, msg); /* No bytes read if pointer to 0 */ if (*msg_ptr == 0) return 0; /* Put the incremented value in msg */ snprintf(msg, MAX_LENGTH, "%d", value); /* Put bytes from msg into user space buffer */ while (length && *msg_ptr) { c = *(msg_ptr++); printk(KERN_INFO "%s device_read() read %c.", DEV_NAME, c); if(put_user(c, buffer++)) return -EFAULT; length--; bytes_read++; } printk("my_inc device_read() returning %d.\n", bytes_read); /* Return bytes copied */ return bytes_read; }

  • Which file system to use for portable hard drive shared among different operating systems?

    - by Jonathon Watney
Something similar has been asked already but my criteria is a little different. I need to share a portable hard drive (USB/Firewire) between Mac OSX, Linux and Windows XP systems where the files being shared are sometimes 4GB. Is there a file system that is available out of the box on all these operating systems that support this and allows read/write access? If not, what's the next best solution in terms of installing additional software on these operating systems?

  • Why does Chromium run so slow in portable mode?

    - by NoCatharsis
I am using Chromium on a flash drive through LiberKey and it does everything I want it to do as far as syncing my Chrome bookmarks from home, etc. But it's soooooo slow. If I open more than 1 tab, or if a tab is heavy with code such as Gmail or GMaps, then the entire program hangs for about 5-10 seconds. I don't exactly know how portable apps work when run from a flash drive, so is there a way to speed up load times?

  • How to debug on a real device (using Eclipse/ADT)

    - by jgauffin
I'm trying to figure out how to debug applications directly on my phone (HTC Desire). I've installed the USB driver that came with the phone and the phone is listed when using "adb devices". How do I configure eclipse/ADT to launch on the phone instead of launching the emulator/virtual device?
