• Vlc And other Multi Media Problems

• Buildcraft Minecraft mod causing crashes, NVIDIA-304xx Linux Drivers, KDE

  All is perfect, 96 fps average. Until an item tries to enter a buildcraft pipe. Tekkit instantly crashes, no error dialog. I have no idea what logs to look at for information on the crash, or how to fix it. • 3rd monitor with Dell Precision 490

  I am trying to go for a 3 monitor setup on my workstation, but need some information before I can invest in a new graphics card and 2 monitors. Would be glad to get some help here: I have a Dell Precision 490 workstation with Nvidia Quadro FX 4500 graphics card (PCI-E 16) on it. It has 2 DVI-D ports that can support 2 monitors upto 2560x1600 resolution. For the third monitor, I was looking at Nvidia NVS 295 card, however I am not sure if it is physically possible to hook another card to the motherboard. Here is the spec of Precision 490: http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/precn/en/spec_precn_490_en.pdf Can I attach NVS 295 to it? If not, what options do I have?

• How to force a resolution in linux?

  I have a HP LP3065 that requires a dual link dvi cable to go up to 2560x1600 resolution. However, I do not have that cable, but I want to use 1920x1200 resolution. However, my nVidia Display Settings (also system display settings) will only go up to 1280x1024, which looks horribly pixelated on the 30". How do I force the 1920x1200 resolution? I tried adding the mode into my xorg.conf file, but it still would not take it. I know my vid card can do 1920x1200 since it works on the 24" monitor with the same dvi cable.   Lately we had an idea with my Family of building a Super Computer from Scratch. So while we were planning on building our setup, one idea came to my head that it seems possible but i want also your opinions. Lets say that we have 2 ATX Motherboards and 1 MicroATX. Motherboard Setup: 1x ASUS Rampage Extreme Black Edition 1x Intel Core i7 4960x 4x GTX Titan 8x 8GB 1866 Ram Motherboard Setup: 1x SuperMicro X9DRG-QF 2x Intel Xeon E7-8890V2 1x nVIDIA QUADRO K6000 4x nVIDIA Tesla K40 128 GB 1866 Ram And imagine a Solid State Drive with a Switch connected to both of the MotherBoards Can i edit & copy all the data of The first motherboard's RAM to The Other's to be able to continue operating my current Operation System after switching the SSD to the Second Motherboard, from the Second MotherBoard and vice versa? Les say my "Switch Application" modifies everything the Kernel needs to believe nothing happend and continuing its operation from the same point the first motherboard stopped. (Changes on the Device List, CPU Cores, Drivers... etc)

• Why is windows 7 marking all my extra RAM as "hardware reserved"?

  I have a new HP Z800 Workstation, running Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit. The machine has 4GB of RAM -- windows reported 1.99GB available, 2GB was "hardware reserved". I added another 2 GB and windows reports that there is 6GB of physical RAM, but now 4GB is "hardware reserved". The BIOS sees the full RAM amount as well. The video card is an nVida Quadro FX 580, so it shouldn't be using any shared memory at all. whats going on? Z800 Specs are here.

  I would like to build a new cluster to perform heavy mathematical calculations in Matlab and Abaqus. One of my friend told me that distributed computing is way faster than parallel computing, which is very true after reading a bit on the internet. However, I have never clustered before. • nVidia Driver - Laptop is forced as one of my monitors

  I am trying to get my nVidia Driver to correctly configure my multi-monitor setup. I have my laptop in a docking station and two monitors hooked up to it. I had an old driver that this worked correctly with. However, that driver was causing a lot of "Deferred Procedure Calls" so I upgraded to a newer driver. But now I am forced to use my Laptop monitor as one of my monitors. Here is the image in the nVida Control Panel: As you can see, both monitors are recognized, but the only options available are to use one of them with the Laptop Display. Any Ideas? I am running Windows XP (latest updates), I have an nVidia Quadro 1500M. I have tried several different driver versions and all the new ones have this issue.

• Building new GIS Workstation - is it worth upgrading to a workstation GPU?

  We are currently building a machine from scratch to act as a GIS workstation. The primary software used is ESRI's ArcGIS and we are mainly working with vector data using raster data only for contextual background imagery. In the past I have built a GIS machine and used a consumer grade gaming GPU (Nvidia 9800GT) and found it to perform fine. However, I have always wondered if I would have been better off equipping it with a workstation GPU such as a Quadro series. Would a workstation GPU make a noticeable difference doing 2D GIS operations or should I save money on the build and equip it with another 9800GT?

After some discussion, we had decided to install external graphics card to reduce the CPU usage. So that, we have tried following graphics cards. NVIDIA Quadro NVS 440 - 128 MB Radeon HD 4350 - 512 MB GDDR2 Redeon HD 4350 - 1GB DDR2 ASUS EAH 4350 Silent 1GB DDR2 But the performance wise no difference, even worst. So, what is the pupuse of these external graphics cards? Really it will reduce the CPU usage? What parameters have to check, if we want to reduce the CPU usage? • nvidia twinview in ubuntu with large resolutions not working

  i bought an external monitor and can't get it to work properly with my laptop screen. my laptop screen has a resolution of 1920x1200 and the new monitor has 1920x1080 when i open nvidia-settings and select the maximum resolution for each of the screen, one screen will always stay blank. if i select a smaller resolution for one of the two it will work. 1920x1200 + 1440x900 = works 1680x1050 + 1920x1080 = works 1920x1200 + 1920x1080 = doesn't work (but that's what i want to have!) my graphics card is an 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation Quadro FX 360M (rev a1) (output from lspci), driver is proprietary nvidia driver, operating system is ubuntu. any help greatly apreciated

• Rendering artifact when using Eclipse (FlashBuilder)

  Once in a while when using FlashBuilder, I'll get a rendering artifact that doesn't go away until I do a full reboot. This artifact seems to be caused by a popup triggered by code documentation popups (hovering over keywords) that linger after the popup has been dismissed: This behavior is seemingly random and incredibly annoying. It only happens when using Eclipse (although I don't run many Java-based programs) and run an NVidia Quadro 2000M (with the latest drivers - figured I'd try that before posting). Has anyone else encountered this issue? Any known solutions?

  How does such a small Teradici card ![enter image description here][1] offer high resolution, full FPS 3D graphics (1:38) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXA4QMmfY5Y&feature=player_detailpage#t=97s for ESXi 5.0/5.1 VDI environments? We're shooting for an AutoCAD/SolidWorks/YouTube 1080p capable environment. I can't see how such a small and low profile card could possibly have the horsepower to handle such GPU computations for a big environment like that. We're going to have up to 64 VDIs per server, and are a 500-1000 employee count sized company. Someone enlighten me please! Determining which route to go (between RemoteFX and VMware View/PCoIP) and the hardware (NVIDIA 4GB non-Quadro/Tesla GPUs vs Teradici card). Servers have three 4x, three 8x, and one 16x PCI-E lane. Two of the 8x lanes will be occupied by SAS RAID cards.

• Windows 8 freezes on startup when intel VT-d is enabled

  I don't know what to make of this situation: Windows 8 freezes after about 3 seconds after booting to the log in screen. The only way i have been able to avoid the freeze, is if i set VT-d disabled VT-d enabled, but Nvidia drivers uninstalled (running on integrated graphics) VT-d enabled, Nvidia drivers installed, Hyper-V feature enabled My goal is to get Windows 8 running with VMWare (ie. Hyper-V has to stay disabled), VT-d and the latest NVidia drivers. Specs: 32 GB of ram Intel Core i7-2760QM NVidia Quadro 1000M Intel 520 SSD 480GB Maybe somebody has experience with this kind of a situation ?

• Manage 2 displays remotely

  I have a pc with a nVidia Quadro graphic card. The card has 2 DisplayPort outs where 2 40" Full HD TV are connected. I need to run 2 separate fullscreen videos, one each display. The problem is displays are far from the pc station and I cannot control them from there. I tried with a remote desktop connection but when I connect screen 1 shows login and screen 2 simply blackens (I'm logged off). The pc, an HP, also has his native graphics card still installed it would be nice if I could connect there a 15" monitor with the desktop on and use the TVs only as secondary where I can send fullscreen videos. Any clue?

• Need a PCIe desktop graphics card for dual-monitor

  I have a mid-2008 workstation with two HD monitors supporting HDMI and DVI inputs. Since Ubuntu 11.10, I have experienced no end of trouble with my NVidia Quadro NVS 290 in TwinView dual-monitor output. Others have similar desktop TwinView woes. I want a new graphics card. Previously I asked for a graphics card recommendation and response was Nvidia Geforce GTS 450... but really I'm looking for someone who has actually got a working dual-monitor desktop to tell me what card they use so I can get something that is known to work. So please, people who have no-issues with their 64-bit Ubuntu 12.04 Unity 3D desktop spread across two HD-resolution external monitors (either DVI or HDMI connector), and who also run Google Chrome (which throws a spanner due to its own GPU compositing)... please let me know what graphics card you have so I can buy one. Gathering Options These seem to be the Nvidia cards featuring dual DVI. But they all seem to be gaming cards - what has dual-DVI, good support, but is not a massive gaming card? • Setting up dual monitors, Xorg.conf issues

  I just got a new computer (W520, Graphics card nVidia GF106 [Quadro 2000]) and installed ubuntu on it using wubi. I have everything working, so I wanted to set it up to be able to use two monitors with an extended screen. I figured I had to edit Xorg.conf, but the file didnt exist. So I tried to create it by booting in recovery mode, and executing Xorg -configure but I am getting these errors: (EE) Failed to load module "vmwgfx" (module does not exist, 0) (EE) vmware: Please ignore the above warnings about not being able to load module/driver vmwgfx (++) Using config file: "/root/xorg.conf.new" (==) Using system config directory "/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d" (EE) [drm] No DRICreatedPCIBusID symbol Number of created screens does not match number of detected devices. Configuration failed. ddxSigGiveUp: Closing log Any idea how I can get Xorg -configure to work, so that I can have an xorg.conf file that I can edit to enable twinview? EDIT: Another way I could ask the same question to solve this problem is, why can't I boot with an xorg.conf file generated by nvidia-xconfig? Is there something in the generated xorg.conf file that might need editing?

• Thinkpad W510 with default graphics drivers shows weird brightness issues

  Hey guys, I am currently running 10.10 - 32 bit on a new Thinkpad W510 with nVidia Quadro FX 880M graphics card. I am running with the default graphics drivers that installed with ubuntu install. My problem is that when I am logging in the screen acts normally as far as birghtness is concerned. I can increase/decrease brightness with Fn keys. But few seconds after I log in screen goes pitch dark. Hitting Fn+Home flickers the screen to all the way bright, then all the way dark. This behavior continues until I reach maximum brightness, in which case the screen stays all the way bright, for a few more seconds and then again goes dark if there is no activity & the cycle continues. • ubuntu 12.04 LTS hangs on boot when external monitor is connected

  I have a problem with my fresh installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on my Dell M4600: nVidia quadro 2000M i7-2860 16GB ram 128GB SSD Dell/Samsung 750GB HDD IPS RGB laptop display When it is connected via DP++ to the external Dell U2311H monitor, it hangs on boot or when wakening from suspend. If I detach the DP cable it boots normally. I have tried all combinations that I have found, as adding to grub: "no splash", "boot=pci", "acpi=off", etc... I have also changed in nVidia X settings that external monitor is the primary one and also tried to delete monitor.xml file. There is no change it hangs each time after grub. It starts to load daemons then both screens are blank and then completely hangs with beep sound. What I discovered is if I detach the cable and wait for about 2 sec after grub starts booting and then physically connect DP cable while the Ubuntu is still booting everything works normally and I have a picture on my external screen while the laptop screen is off, just as I wanted. Do you maybe know how to solve this issue? Thank You.

• How do I get a Dell Latitude e6420 working?

  I've just installed Ubuntu 12.04 (64-bit) on a brand new Dell Latitude e6420, and I'm having a few problems. This laptop has an Optimus (?) setup - i.e. integrated gfx and an Nvidia Quadro NVS 4200M. First problem - I ran setup, etc, and discovered that I can only run unity2d - If I try and login with unity3d, it just defaults to 2d. This is with nvidia-current installed (302.07). Note also that I can't run nvidia-settings ("You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver."), and there is no additional drivers found ("No proprietary drivers are in use on this system"). I tried to troubleshoot this, and removed nvidia, leaving (I guess) just Nouveau drivers - In that case, unity3d did work, but I was stuck with the open source Nouveau drivers powering the integrated graphics. So, obviously, I want to run unity3d, and be using the more powerful Nvidia graphics card. I've tried a bit of tinkering around, but I'm not sure the best way to proceed, or perhaps more importantly, I'm not sure of what the best final solution might be. I've heard about bumblebee - but frankly, I would prefer to have the proprietary Nvidia drivers working properly. Any help would be much appreciated!

• Dual displays not working with Xinerama in Ubuntu 12.04

  I just upgraded from Ubuntu 10.10 to 12.04. I had been using a display configuration just like the one described at http://bitkickers.blogspot.com/2009/08/rotate-just-one-monitor-with.html without any problems under 10.10. I have an nvidia Quadro FX 380 and have upgraded to the latest drivers (295.49). Everything appears to be fine when the system first boots up. However, after logging in, the left screen goes black, and the right screen displays what should be displayed on the left screen. Logging into Ubuntu 2D somewhat improves things. The left screen correctly displays the left portion of the desktop but the right screen contains a duplicate view of the left screen. Turning off Xinerama and enabling TwinView appears to fix the issues but does not allow the right monitor to be rotated. Since the display problems start to occur only after logging on, I thought it might have to do with carryover user configuration from 10.10 but the problems persist even when logging in as a guest. Clicking on System Settings - Displays results in the error message "Could not get screen information - RANDR extension is not present." Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• How do I get my blacked out ttys back?

  Original Question: After I replaced my Ubuntu 10.10 with 11.04 all I get when I Strg+Alt+F1-6 into a tty is a black screen. Also when I boot there's a while of black screen after grub2 menu is displayed. Then until just before gnome starts it stays black. I have an Nvida Geforce Quadro FX 770M on my HP EliteBook 8530w. How do I get my ttys (aka 'virtual terminals') to work again? My effords in chronological order: So grub and gfx-payload seems to be the problem, I figured. I went along with this guide for higher tty resolution. Which led to the grub2 menu displaying in my native resolution rather than 800x600. The black screen problem remains. I googlehit some bugreports on other nvidia crads having that problem. I tried uninstalling the nvidia driver. No effect. Also tried different resolutions With an older version of the kernel it works. Though not perfectly. The ttys are usable, black screen between grub2 menu and gnome start remains. Not really a solution. Tried so much, that I lost track. Reinstalled grub2 and linux-image-2.6.38-8-generic. Then did this to my /etc/default/grub in accordance with the aforementioned guide (/etc/grub.d/00_header edited as well): GRUB_DEFAULT=0 GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0 #GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=true GRUB_TIMEOUT=3 GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2> /dev/null || echo Debian` #GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="" GRUB_GFXMODE=1680x1050x32 To my surprise I can now use my ttys in native resolution. Black screen between grub2 menu and gnome login screen is still there though. That is annoying since I also use an encrypted disk thus having to enter my passphrase in total dark... Still looking for a solution but urgency is low. Downloaded and installed a later version of nvidia driver. No difference to last edit. Tried GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="vga="-parameter. No effect. nomodeset has no effect. not even in combination with vga=... Tried echo FRAMEBUFFER=y > /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/splash no effect (see comment) On the verge of resignation... • Why does the login screen fail to appear?

  My system: Dell Precision T3500 nVidia Quadro NVS 295 Ubuntu 12.04 x86_64 (3.2.0-32) Essential problem: On boot my system won't get past the splash screen. I can switch to another virtual terminal and log in, I can also ssh from another system -- so it appears that the problem might be with the display manager. How can I diagnose and fix this problem? More info: From a VT I can issue sudo lightdm restart, and this will bring up the login screen and and I can continue from there. So I do have access to my system.
