  • Installed Ubuntu in VMware Player, Black side bars / broken GUI

    I recently installed Ubuntu 12.10 in VMware Player and have came up with a black sidebar, missing icons, a pretty broken GUI. Everything works just fine though. I am able to run Firefox and open termainal and all that good stuff just fine, it's just that I can SEE them on the sidebar. I have to open up a seperate window on Windows with a picture of the Ubuntu 12.10 desktop in order for me to know what to click on, but once I do click on it, it's pretty much smooth sailing from there(not counting closing Firefox and several other things). Again, everything works just fine, but when it comes to the sidebar, the GUI, the dashboard (get a completely black screen for when I open dash board), they come up as completely black, broken (visual tears and what not), and hoving over them just brings up a big black bar (assuming it's the "zooming" in of the icon, but it just shows a black bar of where the icon should be). I'm not exactly sure what so do to get this to work (to fix the GUI), any ideas as to what I may do to fix this?

  • Java still dont recognize horizontal scroll (right click) 14.04

    I am totally trackpoint fan, I use it all the time and have disablet my touchpad. Due to my study I work a lot with MATLAB, but MATLAB uses Java, and horizontal scroll does not be recognized by java as I already reat in many other threats(well it recognizes as right click :S ). There seems to be no solution for that and disable horizontal scroll in matlab is no solution for me at all. Does anybody know about a fix for that or somehow to enable horizontal scroll java. This really drives me crazy. HELP! I have Ubuntu 14.04 with java version: java version "1.7.0_55" OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea 2.4.7) (7u55-2.4.7-1ubuntu1) OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.51-b03, mixed mode) Thank you in advance!

  • Partitions and cdrom are not mounted, and the bars are missing in Ubuntu 12.04

    Provide my spec and sorry for my poor English first. MB: Gigabyte G31M-S2L (bios ver. F9) CPU: intel E5200 2G RAM HD1: WD 160G with 2 partitions (partition 1:60G, NTFS, win xp; partition 2:100G, NTFS) HD2: WD 320G with 2 partitions (partition 3:220G, NTFS; partition 4:100G, ext4, Ubuntu) Recently, I tried to install Ubuntu 12.04 Beta 2 on my desktop PC (on partition 4). At the beginning, everything looked great including the auto-mounting of partitions 1~3 and the unity (3D). However, after I deleted and re-allocated the partitions on HD2 and re-installed Ubuntu on partition 4, the partitions 1~3 are no longer auto-mounted when I logged in the desktop (and even the inserted cdrom would not be mounted either), and the launch bar and menu bar in unity (3D) are missing. The configurations during these two installations are all the same as default. Are there any possible reasons or solutions for this issue? Thank you in advance!

  • No Launcher or bars on desktop when running from a VPS

    I'm using tightVNC on Ubuntu 12.10 and can see and change the desktop background pic. I can also press f3 to get a file viewer. But there is no topbar or left side launcher. I do not think its an nvidia problem because I'm using a VPS and I logon remotely. I've tried so many variations of /root/.vnc/xstartup such as gnome-session &, or gnome-session –-session=gnome-classic &, my head is spinning. I've seen other people have this issue and was wondering if anyone solved it.

  • Changing mouse behaviour in EOG

    When I open a photo in eog I can easily zoom with the mouse mouse wheel. This is kind of nice but since I have a touchpad with two-fingered scrolling and horizontal scrolling I'd rather scroll in the image and zoom by using Ctrl+Mouse Wheel? I basically want the same behaviour as in evince: Horizontal Scroll and Normal Scroll navigate within the image and Ctrl + Mouse Wheel zooms in and out. Is this possible somehow? [EDIT] I just figured out that what I want is already implemented: I can pan the image by using Ctrl + Mouse Wheel. This is fine as it is the behaviour I want only with the Ctrl inverted. But I cannot pan to the left. Up, down and right work fine. What's the problem?

  • Windows 7 Explorer - Activate mouse focus to be able to scroll in tree and file view?

    I'd like to be able to scroll in the tree view without having to click in it. Is there a way to do this? I have once used a tool that generally gives focus to the window underneath the mouse cursor, but this caused some other glitches so I would like to achieve this without an extra tool. I also think that there are programs that embed the Windows Explorer and offer more features, including the behaviour I would like to have. But maybe a registry value change is all that is needed?

    I am using Excel 2007 on a windows machine. I am attempting to place one data bar and one data icon into a cell under the conditional formatting. The issue is that I don't really want to have data icons or data bars for cells that have dates in the future and I only want to have data icons for dates in the at least one month in the past. This is what I have: This is what I want: I am using the EOMONTH function to determine the last day of the month for the conditional formatting calculations. For the data bar the formula is =EOMONTH(Now(), 4) and =EOMONTH(Now(), -1). The data icons formulas are =EOMONTH(Now(), -1) and =EOMONTH(Now(), -2) Is there a way in Excel 2007 to get rid of the data icons for all the dates in the future and lose the data bars when the date has past.   • Moving tool bars in Acrobat X Pro

    I'm using Acrobat X pro for Windows. I found that two lines of tool bar takes too much space. So I would like to combine them into one line, or move them to left or right side. I do know that I can hide those tool bars by Ctrl+H. But I want to use them without hiding. Since most documents I use are letter size and portrait type, tool bars on the left or right side would be much more efficient way of using space. Does anybody know how I can do this? (I think I could do it in Acrobat 9..but I can't in X version)

  • Scroll view to bottom while keyboard is hiding

    Hi! I'm using a scroll view to move my view and show certain text fields (that otherwise would be hidden) when the keyboard shows. I basically resize the scroll view to make room for the keyboard, and then scroll up the view smoothly with "scrollRectToVisible", which works perfectly. After that, I can scroll and edit the rest of the text fields without lowering the keyboard, which is what I intend. The problem comes when I want to hide the keyboard again. I have been able to lower the keyboard and scroll down the view to its original position without a problem, but I have been unable to make that transition smooth. At the moment I use the following: - (void)keyboardWillHide: (NSNotification *)notif { CGRect topRect = CGRectMake(0, 0, 1, 1); [scrollview scrollRectToVisible:topRect animated:YES]; scrollview.frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, scrollviewWidth, scrollviewHeight); } I create a CGRect at the top, which I then move into view with "scrollRectToVisible". That works fine and commences the scrolling right when the keyboard is hiding (I use "keyboardWillHide" and not "keyboardDidHide" because the scroll view frame is still missing its lower part). The problem comes when I resize the scroll view frame back to its original dimensions (which I need to do), because then the scrolling is interrupted and the view drops to the bottom suddenly (as there is nothing else to scroll). This causes a glitch, which is why I cannot complete the transition smoothly. Any ideas on how could I lower the keyboard while scrolling the view down smoothly? Should I be scrolling up a bigger view, instead of resizing it? That way I would not have to restore the scroll view frame dimensions when lowering the keyboard, or would I?     I have Sony VAIO FW 230J laptop. I was using Lucid and upgraded my system to Maverick beta in September 2010. Although there were few issues with beta release on my system although I did not felt myself in any deadlock. The most notable experience on my ubuntu was the smooth and kinetic scrolling and very sensitive touch pad experience with finer control that was oddly normal in previous releases and even on windows 7 currently. Definitely this release of ubuntu is improved for touch UI experience. I believe that this is magic of 10.10. For my official system I waited until the final release was out. After installing (upgrading) official system to Maverick I am not feeling the same smooth and kinetic scroll experience. My laptop has Graphics: Intel DMA-X4500MHD while my official desktop has Graphics: Intel DMA-X4500HD Do I need to install or update some software package to have similar kinetic scroll experience?

  • Cannot assign keys to Wacom scroll wheel anymore

    Hi all, my Wacom Graphire 4 used to work perfectly well until, I think, Ubuntu 10.4. At that point something changed in the configuration and I couldn't assign a key to the scroll wheel anymore (note: the pad's scroll wheel, not the mouse's), i.e this command: xsetwacom set "Wacom Graphire4 6x8 pad" AbsWDn "key +" returns silently without error but nothing happens. Same goes for AbsWUp, RelWDn, RelWUp. Apparently though the problem is even deeper as pressing the wheel in a xev window doesn't seem to have any effect. Moreover I am thoroughly confused on how the various pieces (kernel driver, xorg driver, evdev, HAL, xinput?) are supposed to work together and if the wacom module that ships with Ubuntu is the one from linuxwacom or not. Any ideas? I don't want to become an X.org hacker just to understand what's going on... it used to work! NOTE: I have already read question 3940, but that's not the same problem.

  • How can I stop Chromium from putting focus in the address bar when using the up arrow key to scroll

    This is bugging me. I'm at a web page, any web page, and I am scrolling back to the top of the page with the up arrow key as I tend to do when browsing a page and once I get to the top of the page if I don't pay attention and hit the key one more times than is needed Chromium in all it's wisdom decides I must want to do something with the address so it places the focus in the address bar. ARGH! Any way to stop this? I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty and have installed the nightly build version of Chromium PPA.

After surfing in net about the problem I came to know that Ubuntu 13.10 has default two-finger scroll option enabled in Mouse and Touchpad setting. After unchecking two-finger scroll edge scrolling was enabled. In windows, I have used both feature. How can I use both two finger scrolling and edge scrolling in Ubuntu 13.10 permanently so that the setting won't reset even after I restart, shutdown or suspend my laptop.
